Drew Greenberg still mad (at us apparently)

Postby WebWarlock » Fri Feb 11, 2011 5:33 am

So I was online looking for something else and I feel upon this interview from Drew Z. Greenberg from July 2010.

http://lowresolution.blogspot.com/2010/07/low-res-interview-drew-z-greenberg-part.html

Near the end he talks about the whole "Evil/Dead Lesbian" deal and he admits how he is still appalled.

Appalled at us Drew, or appalled we called you on your bullshit?

Regardless of what he is saying (and it is the same self-serving crap that we are used to reading) it is the mere fact that he is saying it. In 2010.

Obviously the wounds caused by Kittens are deep and memorable.

The goal of the Kittens in 2002 was that every single article about Buffy anywhere and forever should mention the cliche and/or fan anger over Tara.
I think it worked, even Joss came back with his baloney "I wanted to Bring back Tara at the end of s7" to appease the fans. It was insincere , but it was crawling back :)

He has kind of missed the point here. His argument only holds up if the ultimate goal of the Willow/Tara pairing was to create a lasting positive image. yet by his own admission the only reason they nurtured that positive image was so it would be more devastating when Tara was killed off. So the goal wasn't a positive image at all but a negative one, and thats from his own words.

ASA,

True. And here is the rub. As we get further and further away from the event the more and more obvious it becomes that the Kittens were right from the very, very start.

The only reason DZG brings this up 10 YEARS after the fact is because he knows we were right and is still trying to cover is own ass.

The Kittens called it spot on and were called over-reactionaries at the time by other fans and indeed some of the writers.

I sort of see a parallel with the current issue of same-sex couples marrying. As the "established" position looks less and less credible, so the claims from the establishment to try and justify that untenable position become more and more outlandish. We've seen the stupidity that Rick perry has voiced (and music used) in his recent ad and all the anti-marriage bigots and how ludicrous they are and ehre we see a similar theme with Drew and his outlandish claims.

Strangely, he doesnt get it. if he had written a scene where tara was killed in the kitchen (which made more sense given the gun) or Tara dying trying to save Willow or others then that would have been at least Tara going out in some glory and whilst we would have no doubt been annoyed at her passing, at least it would have been in a positive way, if only in terms of her showing love through self-sacrifice. But to have her die just after having sex with Willow, in their bedroom with no way for that bullet to get to her the way it does, to kill her that ridiculously and pointlessly (as it served no genuine story purpose) and then claim it Wasn't an example of the "Dead/Evil lesbian2 cliche is just proof that he truly doesn't get it.
