Toyota Tacoma

Postby Big Dummy » Fri Apr 30, 2004 6:21 pm

So, in this commercial, some guy has videotaped himself in his truck, having a good time off-roading it. Static, and then a woman appears on a beach. It's his girlfriend and she's taped over the rest of his tape. She spouts about how much she hates it that "Mike" I think spends all his time hanging with his friends and his truck, and she calls out to an unseen friend of hers standing atop a cliff. Her friend(s?) proceed to push the truck over the cliff, and we cut the girlfriend jumping up and down and whooping with joy. The truck lands at the bottom of the cliff...without a scratch. And you hear the girl cursing in anger.

I admit, it made me laugh, but I think that was mostly out of shock. Why are women always shown as these irrational beings who do crappy overblown stuff like that? I don't know a single woman who's ever keyed someone's car or burned someone's clothes. Where did this woman scorned thing come from? It's so goofy.

Besides, I appreciate the value of a dollar far too much to wreck someone's things in retribution. ;)

Oooh, that's really awful, BD. It reminds me a little of that Michelin tire ad, where the director is upset that he can't get his stunt driver to hydroplane the car he's filming (because the tires grip too well, get it?), but much worse because of the sexism.

Actually, I just wanted to post here to note that that's k.d. lang, singing w/ Tony Bennett, on MCI's new "What a Wonderful World" commercials.

GG I have enough LGBT pride to love seeing "one of the family" getting mainstream work! :pride Out

ETA: Jen, don't feel bad; I didn't notice her at first either. What I did notice was the inimitable Tony, and then immediately recalled that he and kd did an album together recently. That made me focus on the ad the next time I heard it, and then I had my "Aha!" moment. :grin

Oh yes, that k.d. lang stuff is delicious! I'd listen to her sing all day. Yum.

Best funny ad I've seen recently is for some drug that says it's "a daily pill for natural male enhancement". Uhhhhh, whatever could that be? The actor they hired has the funniest fake smile I've seen. Then the commercial is immediately followed by another one where they're talking about all sorts of wood. Lumber-yard wood. Golf club wood. Um, and how when you want to know about wood, you go to the experts. WOOD!!! I couldn't believe they were using that euphemism in an ad! :lol

Six Flags commercial

Postby Jennpurr » Wed May 19, 2004 9:42 pm

Has anyone seen the Six Flags commercial? The one where the little old man gets off the bus and then starts dancing?? :lmao

That's the funniest thing ever. My dad loves it and everytime it comes on, he dances with him! *snort* :lol

Anyone know where I might be able to DL a clip of him dancing? :pray I would greatly appreciate the help.

Jen

ETA: Hee... Found it!!!!! Dude... that's the best thing ever!

Thank you for sharing these hysterical commercials. My partner, American born and bred, misses seeing USA adverts (seeing as she now watches a steady diet of UK ones instead) My favourite USA commerical (from 8 years ago when we lived there) was two raccoons breaking and entering into a home to sit in the lazy boy chairs....although their little legs never quite reached the foot rests! If anyone has that...please display it! I loved it so much! We think it was a Columbia MO advert, but it creased the heck out of me! Gotta love animals in commericals!

Homoerotic Hot Dogs!

Postby Cicca » Fri May 28, 2004 8:55 pm

Let's hear it for them!

I've been catching the funniest homoerotic hot dog ad a few times lately. I still don't know what brand it is, so I guess they should work on that a little. It's a regular Joe Schmo guy at his barbeque talking about this brand of hot dogs and how much he loves them. And his favourite part about these ones is that they're "girthy". "Say it with me: Giiiiiiirthy!" He says it with an almost sexual zeal it just kills me!

The new version isn't as funny as the old one, but it's still got the little old man! :lmao

Jen

P.S. If you have yahoo messenger, I can send the other commercial to you if you want to see it?

Sending a (cellular) shout out to T-Mobile!

Postby Gatito Grande » Tue Nov 16, 2004 11:57 pm

(And no, it's not because of C Z-J ;) )

[I debated putting this on the "It's just subtext" thread, but came across this one first . . . ]

Has anyone seen the T-Mobile ad w/ the gay subtext? :applause

Couples (and they're portrayed as couples) are shouting at each other ("You!" "You!") about calls to their partner running up their cell phone bill . . . and the commercial sneaks a male/male couple into the mix! :pride

GG I don't own a cell phone---really wouldn't want to, except maybe for the glove compartment (emergencies on the road)---but if I did, I'd want to support T-Mobile, just for this commercial. :bow Out
