Once and Again

Salem Witch Trials, koala bears, SpongeBob: what's on TV and at the movies!

Re: Once and Again

Postby fell » Tue Apr 02, 2002 6:03 am

I love this show. What a bummer it's being cancelled. I would love to see an extended arc about Katie and Jessie. One thing that was ground-breaking about them was that this was about a first-time romance for a 15 year old. This is a radically sane and healthy message to see on network TV. I'm sure it's giving the right wing moralists fits.

Is there a single TV network that doesn't totally suck? It seems like 99% of the good shows get cancelled while mindless wanking drivel goes on and on. There are over 800 total hours of programming per week on my cable service and less than 8 hours of that is actually worth watching. And that's only when the best shows aren't in reruns.

On a positive note, the good side to this is that maybe the Katie/Jessie relationship, like W/T, will inspire some realistic romantic depictions of lesbian couples on TV for a change.

Hurrah! Saw this ep last night too and thought the kiss was soooo cute! :) I'm glad too the they are still showing that these girls are still together. It would have been so easy for that to be just a one time thing! I'm also hoping they'll wrap this up a bit more by the end of the season. Like Shelly said and have them come out but it not be a big deal. Sigh well I can wish. Does anyone know if Mischa is in the next ep? She's so cute!

whoo hoo Mischa's back next wk, thanks for the info Joanne, i was actually wondering if Katie is in it. i read that the finale is the 19th episode and not 22nd like the other shows. will the family ever find out abt Katie and Jessie, that they're more than friends? i hope they'd deal w/ that when the time comes, or if there are more episodes b4 the finale. coz fr last night's ep, Jessie was nervous when she thought the whole school found out abt her and Katie. peace :)

I'm thinking it will come out, I read the basic idea of the last episode and it seems like a time that Jessie would come out cause of what might happened with the parents she is living with.

Also ratings from last night:

The NCAA championship earned a 13.8/23 in the 10 p.m. hour, peaking at 10:30 as Maryland began to pull away for its first national title. (The game ended after 11 p.m., outside of primetime.) A repeat of "Crossing Jordan," 7.6/12, on NBC finished ahead of "Once and Again," 5.8/10, on ABC.

Yah thanks for that info Joanne! I was wondering if Mischa was in any of the last episodes so it's looking promising. It would make sense for Jessie to tell her family if they are to make this "life altering decision". I also noticed eek that Jessie was more worried that everyone was actually talking about her and Katie. Once she realized it was about Grace she totally relaxed. I think she'll have major issues about coming out if she does.

It's gonna be weird, cause well they never built up the relationship really, right now they only been going out for a couple weeks so not really sure what is gonna happen, it could go either way and with the life changing thing, who knows.

Someone might have asked this before but I dare do it again...:)

Do anybody know where I can download these episode?

Coz here in DK, Jesse has only started to get anorexia, so I think we are pretty far behind...

And I REALLY want to see the new eps...!

Thanks Grace:) My sig is from an Ani DiFranco song called Garden of Simple, off of her newest album "Reckoning and Revelling" It's really, really awesome!

Yeah, I hope your Mom's watching it too, La. I know mine still is, but I think she's trying to turn a blind eye toward Jessie and Katie right now. But hy, it's better than her freaking out and saying how the both of them are going to hell, right? I'll take what I can get.

Hey Shirleene, I got the postage money yesterday, thanks a bunch! Have you gotten the tape yet? Let me know when you do, could ya so i know it got there alright? Do you want last night's episode now, or do you want me to wait for the last two?

in the garden of simple, where all of us are nameless, you were never anything but beautiful to me.

Gloryp3mrs, of course no one can beat W/T who are just the best and cutest couple on tv. since btvs are on reruns, atleast we have Katie and Jessie.

it would be interesting to see/find out how Jessie will handle her coming out and what her parents' reaction would be, considering Lily actually thought it was Grace who was gay. i've always wanted to see how things like this would be resolved since Jessie is just 15(?). i remember the movie The Truth About Jane, in this case, it's gonna be The Truth About Jessie. heh.heh. peace :)

I thought that there was only one ep left, but there are two! yay! and it looks like Katie's gonna be in both of them! Maybe Jessie will tell the rest of the family if Rick wants to leave and Jessie says that she wants to stay with Katie. That'd be kinda cute. I just want them to find out.

And I was kind of expecting Lily to say something like "I guess Grace isn't gay" or something like that in the last ep because of Mr. Dmitri and all.

If you decide to make a clip of that and put it up: thanks in advance!!!

bummed

Postby Tree » Wed Apr 03, 2002 12:17 pm

I was so bummed when I found out the show was officially cancelled. It flashed across the bottom of the screen on the E! network while I was watching TV last week. I always regretted not making a bigger effort to watch it. I missed the Gay/Straight Alliance episode when it first aired and I just naturally assumed I would catch it when it aired again, but now it looks like that won't happen.

Garage Scene

Postby ScoobySnack » Wed Apr 03, 2002 5:17 pm

Eli lives above the garage, and Jessie is in there talking to him when Grace comes in. Jessie and Grace have a sweet, sisterly-bonding, dramatic moment type thing(after kicking Eli out of his own room). It's cute.

Postby Dazey » Wed Apr 03, 2002 7:20 pm

You know, I'm almost glad the show got cancelled. It's too bad we won't get to see more of Jessie's arc...I don' t think there's ever been a gay character that young on TV, and it could have been a really wonderful coming out story (who knows, we may yet get some radically truncated version of it)...but at least this way, it won't get screwed up. We won't have to deal with tales of the network suits trying to censor stuff. Won't have to deal with painful breakups or any of the other myriad traumas that writers and producers inflict on us in the name of drama. (No, I'm not bitter.) The Jessie/Katie relationship will (hopefully, unless they somehow manage to screw it up in the 2 remaining eps) be forever frozen in its moment of first blossoming, always young and carefree and beautiful and innocent...untainted by the horrors of the world. It's good to have some things like that.

Dazey

Re: Once and Again

Postby imperfectly » Wed Apr 03, 2002 7:37 pm

Well, Dazey, that’s a healthy (bitterness aside…LOL) way to look at the cancellation. It’s a little bit like how I feel about My So-Called Life’s early demise. That show was so perfect. And it’s frozen forever in time in that perfection. Plus, you get to image how it will all end, instead of having it all spelled out for you. (Though, I do miss that show. I watch the few episodes I have on tape and marvel.)

Of course, now they’ll prove us all wrong by having something catastrophic happen to Jessie and Katie in a two episode span…

Postby ferocious toast » Wed Apr 03, 2002 8:08 pm

I agree with you,Dazey. I rather remember their relationship as sweet and innocent, instead of having the writers play with my emotions.

But I will miss the show so much, and I hope to see the cast getting more work(I hope to see more of Mischa Barton as well!)

Take care.

I kind of agree with you too Dazey. Even though it sucks at least their relationship will be frozen in time as a very memorable and sweet one. I don't know though. A part of me does agree with you and what I just said, but another part of me would rather see the show go on with the risk of them breaking up.

I agree with you guys on this one. I'm hoping it'll be all love and kisses until the end. No massive coming out (unless positive), no sudden realization that one of them is straight, no drama-rama...just the sweetness of finding first love.

If this all happens Angelina Jolie will also walk into my bank one day, be smitten with me and move in leaving Billy Bob and tatooing my name on her arm...

Opps sorry wrong dream there...
