“You two are the witches?”

“Uh huh,” confirmed Willow

“And you will help me?”

Tara looked to Willow then back at the stranger. “If we can.”

The cloaked woman threw back her hood. ”Turns out a bit of cosmetic surgery with a witch doctor, entailed a slight skull shrinking.” Loose skin stretched tight, being held back with a clip. Eyes floated in fluid filled goggles. “And it hasn’t stopped.”

“Sounds like a headache,” was all Tara could muster.

“Quite.”

“How are you alive?” Tara elbowed Willow. “Asked in a not rude way. Science. Organs.”

“I was never considered the brightest.”

Xander handed over the modified initiative gun to Willow.

“How safe is this Xander?”

“Safe,” he said handing another to Tara.

“You can’t say safe to define safe.”

“Will, can we not do the tetchy angriness while holding the tetchy weaponry.”

“Tetchy?” Willow and Tara said simultaneously.

Xander dodged Willow and answered Tara. “Lots of electricity. Like a Taser on super solider serum.” Xander hesitated at Tara’s blank expression. “Should have asked if you have a pace maker. Don’t use it if you have a pace maker.”

“Anything else we should know?”

“Didn’t have time to test them. Let’s go!”

“Oh no, fairy wings rip off way easier than a Butterfly’s or moth’s.” Anya mimicked a ripping motion, memories in her eyes.

“Aren’t they part of their body?” Asked Tara.

Anya ripped out a strand of Xander’s hair.

“OW!”

“Get a haircut.” She threw the hair back at him. “Fairies don’t so much cut their wings but modifying them is a fashion.”

“So these wings could be, offcuts?” Questioned Willow.

“Meaning we might be on to nothing,” said Tara.

“It’s something. Has to be.”

Riley cleared his throat, “how did you measure the force needed to pull off the wings?”

Prompt - Roses - Different colours of rose have different symbolic meanings.
Author's Note - May the fourth be with you.

“Red!” Pointed out Buffy.

“Blue.” Dawn called.

“Green,” chimed in Willow.

“And here’s Windu’s purple.” Xander gleefully cried two inches from the TV screen.

Tara tilted her head at the screen. “Do the colours mean anything?”

“Red means bad guy. Red is always bad guy.” Answered Buffy.

“Purple means cool because Windu is cool. OOH there he is!” nose now touching the action.

Willow looked up to Tara. “Not your thing?”

Tara shook her head, not wanting to offend.

Willow lifted herself from the comfort of Tara’s lap, extending her hand for Tara to take.

“Going on a snack run.”

Rating - U or K (Suitable for all ages).
Prompt - Remember (but oh so much I want to forget).
Author's Note - It's longer than the drabble.
Spoiler:
The last two quotations and end of the first are not my own. I read them in a book last night and I just couldn't do it. I was finally getting the character depth I wanted (compromised at this point of the book) and I was getting in the zone for the character core to absolutely sing a belter and elevate everything so far into an understanding. No. it came across as the cheesiest out of place chat up line and it played out as a dramatic declaration of love. I read it through a few times and I get what the Author was trying to do, the emotional points hit and how this relationship between characters works. But It was all trying to be an allegory of being gay and for the character and world its set in, it just doesn't work (sexuality, gender, race, species, hologram, robot, dead, alive, all a non issue - mostly). It took away any meaning from the character and the interaction for me because it felt like a generalised box tick. Its not so much not having the characters voice but not having the characters words. The allegory could have worked but it didn't because it lacked the characters words.

So this is my half arsed attempt of what I wanted while trying to do the author's box tick.

Also wanted to try this quotation with paragraphs thing, i keep seeing it.

Personally, I would have had the final quote as "Who I am." followed by "Who's that?" "I don't yet know." "What do you know?" then do the big 'will they wont they' finally revealed with a kiss. but for Tara and Willow and out of context from the original work with different characters, doesn't make complete sense for this.

It wasn't even advertised as a romance!

“My whole life there’s been people telling me what to think, what to feel. What I thought I felt and what I knew, was told to be wrong. By whoever saw fit to tell me. My Dad, Donny, Jonathan, Monks I’ve never met, Glory. Then even you.

“I started to believe they were right. Their imposed thoughts were my own. At least for a time. I don’t mind some of them.

“I had to go workout for myself what I think, what I feel.“

Willow was transfixed by Tara words and pointed gaze. “Which is what?”

“How beautiful you are.”

Author's Note - Dedicated to someone I still don't know how to feel about even after all this time, but out of all our conversations this one comes to me most often.

The muscled vamp was ready to pounce. Her braided ponytail swayed with the bounce of her feet. She snarled her advance.

“WAIT! WAIT! WAIT! You can’t.” Willow waved her hands above her head, backing into Tara.

“Yeah you can’t.”

The vamp paused in confusion.

“Cramps. I have cramps. Girl code.”

“She didn’t take Tylenol before leaving,” added Tara.

“Pfft hormones. PMS brain, urggh.”

“I told her. She gets really defensive this time of the month.”

“Hey! Do not.”

The vamp folded her arms, nodding in agreement. “I get it. It was like a demon was in me. All over blood.”

Prompt - Serenade
Author's Note - I refuse to call the Queen of Black Magic Tara. Won't do it, never will. But Vamp Willow is allowed here and lore wise (depending on who's writing that week) it's not Willow so in honour of #AmberBensonApprieciationDay I'm splashing in her puddle. And while I cant stand TQBM, I can't deny the idea of her and Dark Willow duking it out is music to my ears.

Words swirled up Willow’s arms, dancing around her protruding dark veins. The information and power intoxicating her being, lost in the abyss.

The Grimoire snapped shut closing off the connection. “No, no, no. One doesn’t help themselves to the queen’s collection.” The Queen of Black magic strode into the room.

“All these candles, seemed inviting.”

They circled the podium where the grimoire sat, their gaze on each other. Their power radiating.

“If you had any sense you’d get on your knees.”

Willow’s eyebrow raised “For queen or country?”

The corner of TQBM’s mouth turned skyward. “Two of those syllables work.”

Willow stretched out her arms, sensing the room around her. Her blindfold tied tight failed to muffle her hearing. Proven by the footstep she heard to her left. She turned gingerly stepping forward keeping her arms stretched out front.

Then came a clasp of the door handle, Willow spun towards it receiving a cushion to her back. “No fair, I said no magic.” Willow pulled down her blind fold.

“I was hoping you’d turn back around so I could do this.” Tara slipped her arms around Willow’s waist holding her in close. Placing a kiss on pouty lips. “Forgive me?”

Tara held Willow’s hand in her own, inspecting its lines. Picking up any detail to signify her future.

Spoken secrets.

Shrimp.

Blood.

Genuine moulded plastic.

Death.

Blue.

Anger.

Pain.

Confusion.

Lost.

Pancakes.

Sorrowed return.

Betrayal.

Song.

Hopelessness.

Chicken.

Cow.

On a hat?

Thirsty.

Green.

Rescue.

Connection.

Pain shot through Tara’s chest.

A flame flickered in the darkness.

A green stem topped with pink blossom.

The flame engulfed it.

Gone.

“What do you see?”

Tara felt her senses return. A weird sensation as she’d only looked at Willow’s palm for a second. “Willow hand.” A suggestive smile crossing both their faces.

Prompt - Roses - Have thorns.
Author's Note - Context. The T isn't written strong and that S looks like a Y. For years I thought she wrote Horny.

Willow and Tara wandered the narrow corridor. The derelict walls causing them to push past curling wallpaper. A single door stood at the end.

The room was dark. Black walls with dim red hues lighting up the chalk words written all over the room.

“Tara you think this might be one of those,” Willow lowered her voice to a whisper, “sex parlours?”

“What makes you say that?”

“Oh you know bad boy written on the wall. Horny.”

“I think that says thorns.”

“Poor penmanship explains that but what about the suited horse guy standing on that ladder?”

He remained silent.

Author's Note - It's Eurovision Day! Today's inspiration.

Lightning in clear skies. No crack of electricity or thunder to accompany it. Bright streaks bursting through Sunnydale’s horizons.

Willow had followed them for the past hour. Each pathway of light led to one insignificant spot in town. From what she could work out there was something camouflaged hovering, without heat signature or sound.

A sigh passed Willow’s lips. If anything said apocalypse it was weird things in the sky. Curiosity won over her pesky annoyance by throwing a stone up at it. The camouflage shifted momentarily. Someone was up there.

“Hello?” Called Willow

“Willow?” a small voice cried.

“Tara?”

Willow peered out from their bushy cover. “I didn’t look like that did I?”

Tara took another look at the graveside display. “No. you wore jeans.”

“We had no pentagram or ring of candles. We weren’t frightening satanicy,” reasoned Willow.

“Honey, you coughed up a snake.”

“Cough up a snake one time,” grumbled Willow. “She doesn’t have a shovel either and I’m pretty sure Buffy wasn’t blue.”

“Physically.”

Willow pulled Tara back into the bush. “Why are you being like this?”

“We came here to stop this, not make what we did okay.”

“I’m not. It’s different, seeing it. Shameful.”

“Sunnydale, a knocked over sign giving a title to a flower sprouting from twisted brambles. The kind of town where asking why ends up with asking why again. Then giving up because people are weird.”

“Are you going to talk like this the whole time?” Tara leaned on the doorframe, looking at Willow who had her feet up on the desk, deerstalker adorned and pipe in hand.

“All the dorms in all these halls the prettiest femme fatale stands at mine.”

“Secretary at best, PI Rosenberg.” Tara gave a coy smile. “Isn’t that the wrong outfit?”

“Couldn’t risk cultural appropriation.”

Full bodied notes churned through the cavern. Baritone chanting vibrated the atmosphere by way of ominous chills, accompanied by infrequent thumps on a central drum. Every time the drum beat Willow found herself tripping on her long robe and meeting another disgruntled cult member.

“Sorry. First time. Cult Virgin here. Wait no, not a virgin in a cult but a cult in virgin? I’m not the sacrifice.”

“Urgh newbies, earlier one brought up the patheonic public pontification like some kinda punchline.”

Willow stifled her laughter, funny girlfriend. “She’s not a virg-Sacrafice! Either. Say wouldn’t know where she went do ya?”

A groan erupted from Willow as Anya picked up the trivia card. “You have to match the colour to the pie piece.”

“I know what I’m doing, you’ve been correcting me all game.” Anya snapped back.

“It’s how the game works. They’re the answers!”

Tara placed a calming hand on Willow’s shoulder. “Let’s go with history.”

“Which animal is referred to when referencing cloud weight?”

“That’s brown! She’s reading brown,” exclaimed Willow.

Anya mimicked a claxon. “Elephants. Brown isn’t an animal.”

Willow collapsed back onto Tara, her will to argue gone. “Dumbo.”

“This is going better than Monopoly,” sighed Tara.

Urgh a tie. The first thought Sullivan had when waking. The second thought, he was awake. Both paled in comparison to his third thought, he was hungry. A hunger no amount of Count Chocula would feed.

He pushed up breaking through wood and dirt. He tore himself free with newfound strength.

Muffled voices sounded in his soil clogged his ears.

“Lux,” said a brunette in a long burgundy coat.

A bright light shone into his eyes. Something slammed into his back.

“Got it.” said a different voice from behind.

Sullivan looked down, a stake punctured through his chest. “Oh.”

Poof!

Neon pink trailed through the trees. Flighty and care free. For as long as the net wielders behind it remained useless. It spun flying straight at them turning up immediately before forehead impact.

The first capturer flailed their net in a mix of it’s there, it’s there! And get off me, get off me! The reaction resulting in a sore backside. “SpongeBob makes this look easier,” moaned Willow.

Tara crouched behind Willow, brushing off pink sparkles. “Sweetie he didn’t catch anything.”

“Neither have we. If only I had whistley holes.”

Tara shook the vial she collected in front of Willow.

Small yellow dots peppered the cosmic abyss.

“It matters though. Too far away and you can see it, like we see them now then you end up a cold rock circling what could give you life but never will,” Willow sighed. The science made sense, it always did but the unpredictable unknown uneased her.

“Too close?” Tara slipped her hand into Willow’s, their arms tight between them, shoulders inseparable.

“Burn. Intense heat sweltering anything nearing life. One touch all consuming. Fiery.”

“Just right?” Tara turned her head, pressing her forehead against Willow’s. Their eyes locked in soft gaze.

“Sustains life.”

Author's Note - It ended up longer than thought for.
Spoiler:
It bugs me. As far as I recall, Willow never calls her other partners some insinuation of dumb. With Tara we get Dummy and Doofus. Willow even does this schtick to Buffy, who we know is intelligent.

Willow's best friend is Xander, he's not the brightest bulb in school but I don't see her jesting his intelligence.

I know it is in jest, or at least its played to be in jest or has the cover of it can't be horrible words when its coming out of cutie patooty. But Willow praises herself in her intellect yet she will jokingly call the people closest to her dumb. is it an inferiority thing?

I don't buy it as fully good natured with her. She brings up dolphins in a pound and Tara instantly plays along with it. it's not a two way street, Tara doesn't playfully jab back with names. She bigs Willow up at any opportunity.

I get Willow is making a point by calling Tara a Dummy but after learning about all the negativity, is making a point with negativity really the best way to do it?

Donny says 'look what I found' not who. Her father barely uses her name. How often does she get called by her name and not just a slur or labelled descriptor? It's head canon of course as we know nothing but one visit.

The way Willow and Tara say each others names you know there's love there.

Yes the Terra Tara pronunciation irritates me as they're two different names. I seem to be perfectly fine with the sweetie and honey Tara often uses, its the vernacular. Doofus and Dummy could very well be the vernacular too but the context and coming from Willow.

I don't like it and I don't get why Tara takes it, apart from being Tara.

“Short man’s looking uncomfortable.”

“Huh?”

“Up there doofus,” jested Willow. She stopped their stroll to look up. “You named them.”

“Not NASA approved,” brushed off Tara.

“Hey but they’re Willow approved.”

“The highest of approvals.” A slight smile forming on her face.

Willow took Tara’s hands into her own. “What’s up? You’re kinda offy.”

“It’s nothing. Can we just walk?” Tara let go of one hand as they continued their stroll.

Willow couldn't take the silence. “Why didn’t they make sense to you? The names I mean.”

“The names people give, they never felt right. Most mean. I wanted mine.”

Prompt - Heart
Author's Note - Always worth a Google. Thought Doogie Howser was a vet as that sounds like a dogs name, didn't know about the M.D bit of the title either and this was going to be about Tara finding out Willow's fanfictions were about duck activities and then a duck stares at Tara and quacks.
Rewrites were made.

Willow pressed her key into the lock. “Last I saw, it was here.”

Tara followed Willow into the house and into her childhood bedroom. While the items differed from her dorm there were still the interior quirks that claimed the room as Willow’s. “It’s cute.” Tara glanced at shelves of books, an, unusual for Willow, scrappy notebook took her eye. “You wrote this?”

“Doogie Howser M.D. I was obsessed.”

The notebook was filled with in depth surgery practices. “It’s detailed. This bit about his hearts reaction to seeing Wanda is erm romantic.”

“I was ten.”

“With access to medical journals?”

Wonky eyes, right-angled nose and lopsided ears on a surprisingly perfect circle was the best mugshot they had to show, courtesy of Giles.

“And this is a person?” The shop keep scratched his scalp. “My memory isn’t what it used to but I’d be damn sure young ladies that I would remember that.” Adding insult to injury he positioned a magnifying glass while repositioning his reading glasses. “I must say you two look more, artistic than this.”

Willow rolled her eyes, “we didn’t draw it.”

“Have you seen anything unusual lately?” Asked Tara.

“Only that picture. And you two. MWHAhahaha!”

“Minosa Pudica!”

Xander rocketed out of his slumber “Fire! Fire on the books. Latin.”

Anya slapped the back of his head to calm him. “Not fire, mimosa, Willow wants to day drink.” She looked the stacks of research sources. “For once a good idea.”

“Minosa,” reiterated Willow.

Tara turned to Willow. “You think that could be causing the zombie animals?”

“The zoo changed their food supplier.”

“That's my brainy type.”

“Hey witchstinct, catch up the less tasty food chain morsels.”

“Minosa Pudica is known as the zombie weed,” explained Tara

“If we sterilise the enzymes we could nullify the effects.”

Author's Note - Been watching Disney Channel Original Movies and the romance (obviously very PG) consists of vapid words said in a seemingly isolated location (yet very public because PG) which will both work as a the miscommunication of the film and then the resolution connection of the film and then the call back scene in every sequel. Yet it captures the imaginations and hearts of watchers. I wanted to test this formula.

The touch of Tara’s hand radiated up her arm into the goofiest of smiles, like electricity to light bulb. “Words. Wording word words.”

Tara bit her lip, the only way she could supress untamed joy within. “Words wordy word word word word.” She had enough spontaneity to place her hand on Willows yet she found herself stuck in her protective hair shield.

A shield she now found being tucked behind her ear by Willow. She unbit her lip unable to resist the pure sparkle in wide green eyes. Their pull gravitational.

“Wordy words!” said forced distraction preventing the expected kiss.

An abomination of limbs flailed in panic. Posters ripped off the walls. Desk swiped clean. The wardrobe . . . Ooh that’s cute, but now unwearable.

The limbs tried to steady themselves and when that failed it flumped onto the bed.

“Ow arm, arm.”

The mass of flesh turned.

“That’s my leg.”

“On my side?”

“We have sides?”

The bed creaked in response to twists and turns of unevenly distributed weight.

“I don’t think I got the ingredients right. Or spell.”

“It’s nice being close to you sweetie but we should call for help.”

“Who? Is Buffy gonna power hose us apart.”

He watched them from the shade. These floundering idiots certainly couldn’t protect her.

“Come on in Dawnie,” called Tara. Her feet sinking into the sand as cool waves washed over them.

Willow scooped up water splashing Tara, who returned in kind. The giggling girls a siren call to the teen. Willow went for a kick, ended in a slip. Algae her new apparel.

“Eww, Will got weed on.”

“The school pool all over again.”

“Aww sweetie.”

A knowing look passed the girls, such a pun couldn’t go unpunished. Dawn embraced the water barrage.

“Bloody lovebirds,” scoffed Spike, least nibblets smiling.

Prompt - Remember
Author's Note - The saddest one to be cut so far. The idea of the scene -
Spoiler:
Willow has a disposable camera and she wants all the pictures to be of Tara for a collage but naturally for comedy purposes, Willow wastes a few, accidental nostril shot inspecting the camera, it going off in her bag etc. And selfies existed before smartphones they were just very pot luck if you got a face or not. Tara suggesting to take it together, Willow nervous about wasting another one. Mainly the scene is about how around picture there's a story to it. They're prompts to a memory for those in it or who took it and they're insights to the memory for people only seeing the picture.

The page lit up as did the rest of Tara as yet another camera flash struck her today. Tara lifted her head “How many you got left?”

“One, should have saved that one for that smile.”

Tara sat up and pulled Willow close. “We’ll take it together.”

“But what if I only get our boobs?”

“Make sure our heads are on top in the collage.”

“What if all our heads are the other way round?”

“Take the picture.”

Willow pressed down and Tara leaned in closer placing the biggest kiss on Willow’s cheek, capturing the biggest smile known to film.

Between the thuds at the door and the hum of the washing machines there wasn’t much to do but wait. One machine had stopped, Willow briefly thought to fold it ready for whoever’s it was but that could have been seen as weird by her new friend waiting beside her. She could whistle, not like anyone could hear it.

That feeling. It still wavered on her palm. It was strange. It was, new. To feel power like that, Tara knew something was special about Willow but that that was power.

The thudding stopped, a splatter splodged, then was that, whistling?

Prompt - Forget
Author's Note - Wanted to go for something different here but it eludes any character voice unfortunately. Based on the Tough Love bench scene.

How do you break something broken?
Pain can snap the physical.
But what breaks the mental?
Scare them.
Make them lose hope.
Take from them what they refuse to give until they do.
Share your insanity.

How can you strengthen what already stands strong.
The tallest of towers wobble to prevent snap.
Protect the ones you love at any expense, even one’s own.
To sacrifice with conviction.

Until there’s a point.
A tiny pressure pressing in.
Fracturing all that stands strong.
Crumbling.
Taking.

Hold on.
Hold on.

Falling can go in and out.
So can the catch.

One’s own insanity.

Steps traipsed down the stairs in jubilant fashion. “Going out to study,” called Dawn

“That’s a fun Friday night summer activity.” Willow sipped her coffee.

“I know right, one big party.” Dawn gulped. “Like erm, a party in my brain. Neurons.”

“And where is this brain party?” Asked Tara.

“At Lib-rary, library.” Dawn nodded her head hoping to reinforce her poor save.

“The Lib-rary on Pines?”

“Uh huh.”

Dawn’s eyes skirted between the witches while they held a silent conversation.

Willow broke the deliberation. “Back by ten.”

Dawn squealed, she removed her hairclip, shaking out a well-coiffed bouncy blow-dry. “Bye!”

Prompt - Remember

Before her eyes opened there was a feeling. Like a string pulling her and while each tug got her closer she still felt the lure.

Standing at the door frame she felt it. It was different than when she stood here once before. A different call but both a belonging.

She remembered last entering this room but not leaving it. The carpet looked cleaner in this spot but the threads barer. She knelt feeling the carpet until she found herself laying. Shifting her hips, splaying her arms. Staring at the ceiling taking longer between inhales.

Timid steps approached her. “Tara?”
