I am working on the next part! It's a little challenging the more we get into the story, the plot gets thicker and things aren't going to be all hugs and puppies. But no worries... *sings* I believe in happy endings. :flower

*Note - Angst Warning

~Part 8a~ …We All Need To Grow Up…Sometime

**~~~~**~~~~**~~~***

Tara groaned when she opened her eyes and saw the sunlight streaming through her curtains. The weekend had been a blast with Willow, Fred and Spike. She spent the majority of the weekend with them back at the hang-out or at the warehouse.

Monday had finally arrived and once, Tara couldn’t wait until she got too school. Except for the fact that the friends she had over for her sixteenth birthday, would probably ignore her. She never blew them off for Willow, they chose to go on her own. And it was her birthday. She thought. Shrugging, she threw the covers off of her and walk towards the bathroom.

After her refreshing shower, Tara thought back to last night when her and Willow talked in the back yard for hours.

**Flash Back

“I couldn’t do that.” Willow giggled.

“You couldn’t?” Tara raised an eyebrow. “Willow, you’re a bad ass…or you try to be when I’m not around.” Her voice softened.

“No, I couldn’t hot wire a car and speed off with it. I’ve been there before and…” Willow stood up and studied the dead garden in front of her. “I want a change.” She turned around and looked at the blonde.

Tara nodded, watching the red head start to pace. “Will? How much trouble did you really get into?”

“I stole a car once…with my old friend. It was all for fun, we had a blast stealing the motorcycles when people left the keys in them…or steal the keys from the ignitions. Why one would leave a vehicle unattended with keys in the ignition is beyond me.” Willow sat back down on the hard picnic table. “I helped another guy deal drugs.”

Tara noticed that Willow’s voice failed on her a couple of times. She could hear part regret and part excitement. “Drugs?”

“Yeah, I know. A seventeen year old dealing the stuff. No wonder my parents hate me.” Willow sadly shook her head. “But you know, that’s fine. I don’t need them. I really don’t need anyone.” She slowly looked at Tara. “Except you…I need you.”

Tara smiled softly and pulled Willow close, resting her forehead against the red head’s. “And I need you.” She whispered.

“I’m not usually a softy.” Willow grinned. “It usually takes a lot more to get to know me. But with you, I open up.”

“Well I’m glad. I don’t want you to hold things back. I can handle whatever it is you have to tell me.” Tara said tenderly. “And I don’t mean tonight. I mean, whenever.”

“Thanks.” Willow kissed Tara’s forehead. “It’s getting late, and you have school tomorrow.”

“Will I see you soon?” Tara asked, hoping that the red head won’t disappear for a long period of time again.

Willow took Tara’s hands into hers. “I promise you’ll see me more often.” With that, she kissed Tara softly before walking away.

**End Flashback

Grabbing some breakfast, Tara only had little time to eat. She rinsed her cereal bowl and threw her bag over her shoulder. “Mom, I’m off to school!” She yelled, running out the door.

**~~~~**~~~~**~~~***

Tray-Al felt like crap. That was on word to describe how she felt. Crap. She couldn’t sleep and when she finally fell asleep, she didn’t want to crawl out of bed.

“Tray, honey?” Anna peeked her head through the bedroom door. She seen the blonde’s pale face, those weak eyes staring back at her. “Are you not getting up?”

Tray sank lower into her mattress. She didn’t feel like talking, she wanted to rest and sleep and forget about Saturday.

“Tray-Al, it’s been two days, you’ve been looking so sick, is everything okay?” Mrs. Summers sat on Tray’s bedside.

“Mrs. Summers…Anna,” Tray corrected herself, “Have you ever gave something, or someone up that you wish you hadn’t? I mean, have you ever walked away, and never looked back…and regret it?”

Anna felt the words sting her deeply. She knew she was going to have to tell Tray the truth sooner or later, but she wasn’t sure if she was ready. If Tray was ready. “Why sweetie?”

“Cause if you haven’t, let me tell you, the feeling sucks.” Tray grumbled, sitting up, running her fingers through her slightly tangled hair.

“Tray, I know the feeling all too well. People leave people behind everyday. Some regret it, some don’t. But you can’t sit around and feel sorry for yourself. You have to think about the ones you left behind and how they must feel. Imagine if it was you…you’d be hurt and in a world of pain. To top that off, you don’t need to feel sorry for yourself. You can’t. It won’t make things any better or easier.” Anna calmly said. “Did you want to talk about it?” She asked.

Tray stopped her train of thoughts. “It’s always about me.” She mumbled. Sighing, she shook her head no. “No, but thanks. I just did something a should have, but said some things I shouldn’t have.” She spoke softly. “And I am feeling sorry for myself when I shouldn’t be, so…I have to deal with this on my own.”

“Did you want anything special for breakfast?” Anna smiled and stood up. “Buffy wants some eggs and bacon…but I know you love French toast.”

Tray felt a smile creep along her face. “French toast sounds delicious.” Before Mrs. Summers could walk out of the room, Tray called out to her. “Anna…you were going to let me stay home from school?”

“Well usually you’re the up beat type of girl, who doesn’t let too many things bother her…so by seeing you like this, I got a little worried and thought you could use a day off.”

“Thanks…but I think I should go to school. Get things off of my mind.” Tray hugged the older woman.

Anna stepped out of the bedroom and sighed, leaning against the wall. She prayed before continuing down towards the kitchen.

**~~~~**~~~~**~~~***

Tara arrived at school and to her surprise she seen Terri, Marie, Candace and Lexi waiting for her, by her locker. “Hey.” She said softly, looking up slowly at their stares back at her.

“Hello Tara. How was Saturday night?” Terri asked, in a nice friendly voice.

“Good, why?” Tara questioned, opening her locker.

“Just…wondering. We didn’t exactly leave on the best terms.” Terri smiled a bit.

“Look, I’m sorry for…Saturday night. And the way things were left. I just, didn’t want to go back home, I really don’t have any excuses.” Tara murmured, closing her locker slowly.

“It’s okay Tare.” Marie said, lightly touching Tara’s arm. “But, you didn’t just ditch us for the red head…did you?”

Tara sighed. “No, I didn’t.” She said honestly.

Terri was the first to grab Tara and hug her, while the rest of the girls followed suit. “you guys are the greatest.” She smiled.

In their morning classes that they took together, they’d usually get their work done early and chat, or other times that’d just skip the work and just talk and laugh. Tara knew that they had no clue her home life was miserable. They had no clue how Tara spent her nights or how she’d have to drag herself out of bed every morning and do the things that a normal parent would do. Make breakfast, tidy up a bit, check out the chores list and so on. Even taking time out to do quick grocery shopping’s here and there at a near by convenient store.

Lunch time arrived and the girls found their regular spot in the cafeteria. Pulling out their lunches and whatever they had to share during their lunch hour. “So, we should really do something again.” Candace said, pulling out a magazine from their magazine pile. They were Tara’s from her two year pre-paid Seventeen subscription.

“Yeah, I had fun at your place Tara. Does your mom always trust you that much? Leaving you home alone for a long period of time?” Lexi asked, smiling at the blonde.

Tara swallowed the bite she took from her sandwich before answering. “What can I say, I’m a good kid.” She snickered.

“Right, one of these days you’re going to have Davies over at your place, asking you to make-out or something.” Terri waggled her eyebrows.

Tara thought about the young athlete. Davies wasn’t bad looking or anything, he just wasn’t Willow. Now, having Willow make out with her anywhere, she could definitely go for that. All of a sudden, she felt hands covering her eyes. “Guess who?” Came the smooth sultry voice.

Tara’s heart jumped and started racing. “Willow?” She turned around to see the red head standing behind her. She stood up and hugged Willow. She noticed the smile that spread across Willow’s freckled face. That gleam in her eyes, the excitement in her giddyness. “Are you okay?”

“Yea, can we talk?” Willow bounced up and down, looking over at Tara’s other friends.

“Sure.” Tara excused herself and followed Willow a couple of feet away from the table. “You’re so happy!” She beamed.

“I am. And I want to take you out tonight. Is that okay?” Willow smiled. “I don’t want to tell you here.” She explained.

“That good huh?” Tara smirked, her lopsided grin came out full blown now.

“That good. So…what do you say? Tonight? Around seven?”

“I’d love too!” Tara watched Willow kiss her hand.

“Great, so I’ll be at your place around seven.” Willow pulled Tara in for a long hug, winked and walked away. “Oh, and Tara…thank you for Saturday night…it was the best night of my life to spend it with you.”

“You’re welcome.” Tara called as she watched Willow make it out of the cafeteria crowd.

“Thank you?” Terri began. “For Saturday night? I thought you said you didn’t ditch us for the red head.”

“I didn’t.” Tara frowned. “Willow walked me home later that evening. That’s it.” Tara smiled a bit, remembering the hand holding and stole butterfly kisses.

“And now you’re going out with her tonight?” Lexi was shocked a bit.

“Yea.” Tara licked her lips. “Willow’s a sweet girl, and she’s been there for me for…months now.”

“Months? We were there for months Tara. I’ve never seen her once.” Terri looked at Tara sternly.

“I can be friends with Willow.” Tara said, defending herself.

“Listen, sweetie, I don’t mean to hurt your feelings, but Willow and you are total opposites. Her life is a mess…she doesn’t even have a home!” Lexi explained, as if she were talking to a little girl. “And rumour has it, she’s been in a shelter and in juvenile jail for some bad stuff.”

“Romours?? That’s it? That’s your argument. Something based on rumours?” Tara was a little hurt, sure half of it was true, but still. “Lexi, Willow and I are friends okay? And besides, who are you to judge?” Why would her friends do that to her. Who did they think they were? “I’m going to go.” Tara began to get up, trying to get her magazines and books off the table.

“Where? To find your lesbien gay-type friend? “ Terri snickered.

“What the hell is your problem? Tara yelled, everyone turned to look at their table.

“You are Maclay! You think you can just dump your friends for some red headed druggie?” Terri stood up, her brown hair flying over her shoulder.

“How dare you call yourself a friend. How dare you even pretend to care Terri. You’re cute little tricks may work on these girls, but they aren’t going to work on me. You have so much growing up to do! And I swear, if you ever talk about Willow like that again, I promise you…you pretty little face won’t be so pretty.” Tara growled, walking away and slamming the cafeteria door behind her.

Tara wasn’t sure what just happened, or why things got so heated, but she couldn’t just take the crap that was being shoved in her face. She didn’t have anything against Marie or Candace, she didn’t blame them for not wanting to join in. She just couldn’t understand how her friendship world got turned upside down.

Home was a disaster. Tray, well, at least she knew Tray was okay. But living a whole different life? A good one at that!

I love this fic, it's dark the people here not so nice. IT makes for a different kind of story. I feel bad for Trey but I feel worse for Tara. I get why she did what she did but it was selfish, though sometimes you do need to be selfish. More than anything, I am glad Tara found Willow and that Willow is trying to be there for her now.

I wonder why Terri is so insecure about her friendship to Tara. Why does she seem to claim Tara as her exclusive property ? Jealousy perhaps ?

Tray is feeling awfully while she honestly WAS trying to give Tara good news, being that she (Tray) was safe and Tara shouldn't worry about her. Intention good, execution poor to horrible :-)

What does Willow have planned for tonight, hmm... I can think of some things : -->>: Hopefully Terri won't go informing on Willow, she strikes me as the type to do that, just to maintain her status.

This Part is Happy...so no angst...yet

~Part 8b~ …We All Need To Grow Up…Sometime

**~~~~**~~~~**~~~***

It took Tara a while to coax her mom into letting her go out for a bit with Willow. Belinda’s arguing point wasn’t about Willow, it was more about it being a school night. But Tara couldn’t understand why she’d care in the first place, seeing as she wouldn’t be home anyway.

So, Tara sat on the living room couch waiting for that doorbell to ring. Sure it was only ten minutes until seven, but Tara wanted to be ready so they could leave as soon as she got there.

Pouncing from here seat when she heard the doorbell, Tara swung open the door. “Willow.” She grinned from ear to ear.

“Tara.” Willow grinned back. “These are for you.” She pulled out some flowers from behind her back. “Don’t worry, I actually paid for them and did not raid any gardens.”

Tara giggled softly and grabbed her coat. “Be back around ten!” She yelled to Belinda before shutting the door.

“Aren’t you going to put those in a vase with water?” Willow asked softly, pointing to the flowers.

“Yes.” Tara smiled and took Willow’s hand, leading them to the cellar door. “I kept this unlocked just in case…”

“Just in case what?” Willow asked suspiciously.

“Just in case I’m later then ten and she so happens to be home cause of some weird reason.” Tara shrugged her shoulders and opened the heavy doors, climbing inside. She quickly grabbed a pale and a hose and filled it, placing the flowers neatly inside. “There, that should do until I get back.”

Willow smiled and leaned in, kissing Tara softly on the cheek. “Well, lets get this date started.” She swung their hands as they started walking towards the streets.

“Does this date happen to include Fred and Spike?”

“Um, no.” Willow squeezed Tara’s hand lightly. “Just you and me, baby.”

“Great. Because you were so excited at the school today and I knew you had something to tell me, and it was good. I didn’t want to have to throw myself at you in front of people after you told me.” Tara smirked. “Unless of course, you know, we’ll be in front of people when you tell me.” She blushed quietly.

“I’m taking you out to a lovely dinner, I thought we could see a movie, but then that wouldn’t give us time to talk more. So I was hoping you’d come with me back at the Warehouse.” Willow looked over a Tara.

“I’d love too.” Tara smiled and pulled Willow closer as they continued walking.

**~~~~**~~~~**~~~***

“Ice cream?” Xander asked as he and Tray-Al walked through the streets, passing many food courts on the side walks. “We can cool ourselves off, have a nice cool chat, eat cool ice cream…”

Tray-Al smiled and tucked herself under his arm. She liked this guy, from the very beginning. He was always interested in her, in her life and tried his best to take her mind of things, he knew she didn’t want to think about anymore. Sure, he was younger, but no younger then Tara, in fact, he was slightly older. Xander was, after all, going to be seventeen in a few more months. “Sure, I’d love some.” She smiled up at him.

Xander grabbed his wallet and pulled out some money. “Ma says I have to get a job soon, where do you think I should work?” He asked as they stood in line.

Tray-Al thought about it. “Well, you do volunteer every once in a while at that Children’s Kid Zone. And you’re very good with children, maybe consider doing something with the kids.”

“I’d need to go to College and stuff to do that.” Xander sighed. “Oh, but they are looking for someone to dress up as a big dinosaur in that new diner they opened up at the mall.”

“There you go.” Tray giggled.

“But then you wouldn’t like me anymore because I’d be teased for being a mascot.” Xander grumbled.

“Xander!” The blonde swatted her boyfriend. “I’m going to like you anyway. Dude, I get to come in and kiss you in that costume on your breaks.” She smirked. “And I wouldn’t care you was looking or talking about us, because it’s just you and me….not them.”

Xander blushed a bit. “Two small vanilla cones please.” He ordered and gave his money to the young guy.

“Or you could always apply here.” Tray pointed to the ‘Help Wanted’ sign.

The young guy smiled at Tray-Al and back at Xander. “She’s right, we need the help as soon as possible. No resume needed, just fast hands.”

“Great!” Xander smiled and grabbed the application form. “Would you still like me if I worked here? ‘Cause I know how excited you were when you wanted to see me in the dinosaur…” He was cut off by Tray’s lips on his own.

“Lets just have our ice cream and talk…ice cream man.” The blonde giggled.

**~~~~**~~~~**~~~***

Willow and Tara sat down in a booth at a nice Italian Restaurant. The place was beautiful and the music was soft and soothing. The place wasn’t busy, just a few tables filled by family and couples, here and there.

Tara looked at Willow with anticipation. Willow was overly excited earlier that afternoon, what exactly could be keeping her so happy?

Green eyes locked on blues and smiles were exchanged. Willow scooted closer to her Tara and held her hand. “You’ll never guess what happened.” She started out calmly. “Last night, after I left you, I went back to the Warehouse and found my address book. I’ve been struggling with the decision for a while now, but I couldn’t wait any longer. Tara…” Willow’s voice dropped an octave, but in a good way as a smile curled up at her lips. “I called my grandparents.”

Tara sat back, her mouth slightly open, her eyes twinkling. “You did?” She asked.

Willow smiled. “I did! I’m so glad I did. They want me to come and visit them this weekend.”

“Oh my God, Willow!” Tara leaned over and hugged the red head. “That is so great!”

Willow and Tara were bouncing in each others arms. “I know! And Tara, I was wondering if you’d come with me? I mean, it’s out of the city….they sort of live on a farm…but I told them about you and they want to meet you.”

“Me? Why me? What they possibly want to meet me for?” Tara asked.

“Because I told them that you were the only friend who has stuck by my side since we’ve met…plus, they kind of know how much I like you.” Willow blushed a bit.

Tara smiled shyly. “I’d love to Will, but what about my mom? I don’t think she’d approve.”

“I know, I just thought I’d ask.” Willow said quietly.

Tara looked up at Willow, knowing how big of a deal this was for her. She decided it wouldn’t hurt to ask her mom. “I’ll ask, but how are you, we, planning on getting there?”

“Spike and Fred have a run down truck actually, but my grandparents said that they’d pay for a train ticket into the small town, then they’d pick us up.”

Tara nodded and looked at Willow intently. “Are you nervous?” She asked.

“About?”

“I mean, about seeing your grandparents for the first time in like, forever.” Tara replied softly.

“A little, but that’s to be expected, right?” Willow shrugged. “So, are you in?”

“I am so in.” Tara leaned in again and brushed her lips against Willow’s cheek.

“I’m not done though.” Willow surprisingly said. “Remember how you asked me if I could go back to school?”

“Yea?” Tara’s eyes went hopeful.

“Well…they’re going to talk to the school, your school, and see what they can do!” Willow squealed and sighed happily when she was practically tackled by Tara, kissing her smack dab on the lips.

Buffy was in her father’s Den, searching for her paper that she had asked him to go over. Sighing in frustration when she couldn’t find it anywhere, she came across a beige folder and it triggered her curiousity. “Anna Maclay.” She whispered and frowned. “As in Tray-Al Maclay…”

Sitting back in her dad’s seat, she opened up the file, knowing that it was wrong, but couldn’t help it. Her eyes grew wide when she started to read some more. Quickly, she closed the folder and searched for her mother. “Mom!”

Oh wow.. that's a little, mean ckiffhanger there.

So, Buffy found out, she's actually Tray-Al's sister, I guess.

But Tara and Willow are really cute together. So are Tray and Xander.

Willow going back to school is a good thing. And calling her grandparents, too. But I wonder, how and when they will be all back together.

I love this story.

You're so evil for leaving it like that!

This is so cute. I like them all younger. It's different. They are more innocent in many ways but still both Tara and Willow had a though life.

And I love Tara's hair...

You're great and I can't wait for next update!
