Chapter 1:
"But what if they come to get us?" eight year old Willow clung to her best friend.
"They won't, believe me. I don't think that the monster has many friends, after all, he lives in the closet. I'm sure he doesn't get out often." Tara stroked Willow's hair. "Don't worry, if he does turn out to have friends, we'll get'm. They can't come if there's two of us, that would just be to much work, trying to scare us both."
"I'm glad you're here Tara. I don't know what I'd do without you." Willow unhooked herself from the blonde's arm." Oh! I thought of something! What if he teams up with the one from under the bed! That would be bad! Oh we'd be in for it then."
"Willow, remember, we got rid of him the last time I was here." Tara smiled, the girls were sitting on Willow's bed, it was Friday, Tara always spent the night at Willow's on Friday. Then they would go to Tara's for the next night.
"Oh yeah. I forgot. You're so brave Tara. If it weren't for you, my house would be crawling with monsters." She lay her head on Tara's lap.
Tara looked down at Willow. "As long as we're friends you don't have to worry about any monsters."
The little red-head smiled then she realized something, "Tara, why do you always wear long sleeve shirts? I never see you in short sleeves. It's always so hot out but you wear long sleeves."
"Oh...um...I-I, uh...I'm just c-cold all the time. I-It n-n-never seemed th-that hot t-to me." Tara had hoped that Willow would never question it, ugh, why did she have to notice the smallest things. She wanted to tell her, really she did, but Willow could never find out what went on at her house.
"Hmmm..." Willow looked as if she wasn't buying it, "If you say so Miss. Maclay."

9 years later.

Willow lay on her bed in the same spot that she had the last time she had ever seen Tara. She glanced at a photo on her dresser. In it were two young girls. Herself, and the only friend that she'd ever had, Tara. It was the last thing she had to remind her of her childhood friend. Tara was gone now. Her thoughts drifted back to that night that she had found out that she would never see Tara again.
*******
Willow skipped into the Rosenberg's kitchen. But was soon stopped dead in her tracks by the look on her parent's faces. "What's wrong?"
"Willow, something’s happened.''
"What? Is it bad?" Willow's eyes widened, she hoped for all she was worth it wasn't Tara.
"You can't see Tara tonight." Ira looked down at his daughter.
"What? Why? What's happened to Tara?!" She felt as if she was going to burst.
"There was an accident. Tara isn't here anymore." Ira's face was blank, so it was impossible for the eight year old to tell if he was lying or not.
"She...she's gone?" Willow almost couldn't help it anymore, tears were starting to pool in her eyes.
"Yes, I'm sorry Willow." Her father looked away.
Willow turned around and bolted to her room. This couldn't be happening, it was all a dream, and she would wake up any second and Tara would be there next to her, to tell her it was all just a dream. But Willow didn't wake up, it was not a dream, tears spilled from her eyes as she sobbed into her pillow. Tara was her strength, Tara was everything to her, she wasn't gone, she couldn't be.

A tear slipped down Willow's cheek. She had to get out of here, this room, it was suffocating, so many memories were pooled here, it was too much.
She got up and went down stairs. No one was home, as usual, so she didn't even bother to leave a note. She slipped out the front door and locked it.
On the sidewalk, Willow passed a pair of girls giggling, they looked to be best friends. She looked away, it was so unfair, everyone had someone but her. Her someone had left her here. It was awful.
She wasn't sure of where she was going, she just let her legs carry her somewhere.
Willow ended up in Stevenson Park, sitting on a bench, starring into nowhere, thinking of Tara.
She wasn't sure how long she'd been sitting there, for sure it had been awhile. Now she felt a soft tap on her shoulder.
She turned and looked up, to see a tall blonde standing behind her.
"This seat taken?" the girl asked, letting some of her long hair fall around her face.
"No, you can sit if you want.” Willow replied gloomily.
The blonde nodded, came around the side of the bench and sat down. "What's wrong?" She said wondering what was making this beautiful red head so sad.
"Oh, nothing, just thinking about something that happened a long time ago. It was awful," Willow looked up at the stranger, meeting her eye to eye.
The blonde's eyes widened, "Willow? Willow Rosenberg? Is that you?"
Willow head bolted up again, "What? Um.... do I know you?"
"You don't recognize me? I would think of all people you would recognize me." The blonde stranger looked as if she was going to jump for joy.
"No...I'm sorry, I don't." Willow looked at the other woman very confused.
"Tara...you know, monster in the closet Tara, remember...we never did get rid of him." The girl gave Willow a half smile.
That was all the freakiness the red head needed. She jumped up and turned to face the blonde. "Ok, I don't know who the hell you think you are, or how you know what me and my best friend did when we were eight. Ok, my Tara died nine years ago. So I don't know who you're trying to fool here." Willow's eyes filled with tears just as they had that day nine years ago.
The blonde's face seemed to drain, "Willow, I never died. Who told you that?" She saw that Willow was on the brink of tears. "Sweetie don't cry," Tara stood and took the red head in her arms.
At first Willow was reluctant, the thought of a possible stalker holding her as all her pent up emotions came pouring out wasn't something she was taught was right. But right now she needed someone, so she just let herself get pulled into the woman's arms.
"Willow, you really do believe that Tara died don't you? Well, I'll just have to find a way to prove to you that I am Tara. Let's sit and I'll try and convince you." Tara led the crying girl over to the bench and sat, the red head still sobbing into her neck. "Remember the last night I saw you? We were eight, and you were scarred that the monster in your closet had friends and they were all going to team up on you. But I told you that they couldn't do that, because I wouldn't let them. And then you laid your head on my lap and told me that I was the bravest person you knew. Then you asked about my long sleeves. And I told you it was because it was cold. And we just sat there for the longest time, your head in my lap. It was so cute. Or how about the slaying of the monster under your bed. We put pots on our head and both held spatulas, and we told each other that if we didn't live through it, that the other could have anything they wanted out of each other’s rooms. And we scarred that monster so fast that all he left behind was an old sweater." Tara, seeing if it had worked, looked up.
By this time, Willow had stopped crying and sat looking at the blonde girl.
"Do you believe me now?" Tara asked, looking questioningly at the red head.
"No, I don't know how you know those stories. But I'm telling you...it’s not funny, if this is some kind of prank..." Willow trailed off as she saw the blonde pull a folded up photograph. As she watched the girl unfold it, to reveal the very same two little girls as in the picture in her bedroom. And as she looked at the little eight-year-old Tara, and then at the young woman next to her, then she realized, this was Tara, it really was. She flung her arms around her long lost best friend. "It is you! Oh my God! I thought you were dead all these years..." the tears started flowing again.
Tara wrapped her arms around Willow again...for the first time in nine years, they were together again.
