Chapter 1:

"But what if they come to get us?" eight year old Willow clung to her best friend.

"They won't, believe me. I don't think that the monster has many friends, after all, he lives in the closet. I'm sure he doesn't get out often." Tara stroked Willow's hair. "Don't worry, if he does turn out to have friends, we'll get'm. They can't come if there's two of us, that would just be to much work, trying to scare us both."

"I'm glad you're here Tara. I don't know what I'd do without you." Willow unhooked herself from the blonde's arm." Oh! I thought of something! What if he teams up with the one from under the bed! That would be bad! Oh we'd be in for it then."

"Willow, remember, we got rid of him the last time I was here." Tara smiled, the girls were sitting on Willow's bed, it was Friday, Tara always spent the night at Willow's on Friday. Then they would go to Tara's for the next night.

"Oh yeah. I forgot. You're so brave Tara. If it weren't for you, my house would be crawling with monsters." She lay her head on Tara's lap.

Tara looked down at Willow. "As long as we're friends you don't have to worry about any monsters."

The little red-head smiled then she realized something, "Tara, why do you always wear long sleeve shirts? I never see you in short sleeves. It's always so hot out but you wear long sleeves."

"Oh...um...I-I, uh...I'm just c-cold all the time. I-It n-n-never seemed th-that hot t-to me." Tara had hoped that Willow would never question it, ugh, why did she have to notice the smallest things. She wanted to tell her, really she did, but Willow could never find out what went on at her house.

"Hmmm..." Willow looked as if she wasn't buying it, "If you say so Miss. Maclay."

*******

9 years later.

*******

Willow lay on her bed in the same spot that she had the last time she had ever seen Tara. She glanced at a photo on her dresser. In it were two young girls. Herself, and the only friend that she'd ever had, Tara. It was the last thing she had to remind her of her childhood friend. Tara was gone now. Her thoughts drifted back to that night that she had found out that she would never see Tara again.

*******

Willow skipped into the Rosenberg's kitchen. But was soon stopped dead in her tracks by the look on her parent's faces. "What's wrong?"

"Willow, something’s happened.''

"What? Is it bad?" Willow's eyes widened, she hoped for all she was worth it wasn't Tara.

"You can't see Tara tonight." Ira looked down at his daughter.

"What? Why? What's happened to Tara?!" She felt as if she was going to burst.

"There was an accident. Tara isn't here anymore." Ira's face was blank, so it was impossible for the eight year old to tell if he was lying or not.

"She...she's gone?" Willow almost couldn't help it anymore, tears were starting to pool in her eyes.

"Yes, I'm sorry Willow." Her father looked away.

Willow turned around and bolted to her room. This couldn't be happening, it was all a dream, and she would wake up any second and Tara would be there next to her, to tell her it was all just a dream. But Willow didn't wake up, it was not a dream, tears spilled from her eyes as she sobbed into her pillow. Tara was her strength, Tara was everything to her, she wasn't gone, she couldn't be.

******

Now

******

A tear slipped down Willow's cheek. She had to get out of here, this room, it was suffocating, so many memories were pooled here, it was too much.

She got up and went down stairs. No one was home, as usual, so she didn't even bother to leave a note. She slipped out the front door and locked it.

On the sidewalk, Willow passed a pair of girls giggling, they looked to be best friends. She looked away, it was so unfair, everyone had someone but her. Her someone had left her here. It was awful.

She wasn't sure of where she was going, she just let her legs carry her somewhere.

Willow ended up in Stevenson Park, sitting on a bench, starring into nowhere, thinking of Tara.

She wasn't sure how long she'd been sitting there, for sure it had been awhile. Now she felt a soft tap on her shoulder.

She turned and looked up, to see a tall blonde standing behind her.

"This seat taken?" the girl asked, letting some of her long hair fall around her face.

"No, you can sit if you want.” Willow replied gloomily.

The blonde nodded, came around the side of the bench and sat down. "What's wrong?" She said wondering what was making this beautiful red head so sad.

"Oh, nothing, just thinking about something that happened a long time ago. It was awful," Willow looked up at the stranger, meeting her eye to eye.

The blonde's eyes widened, "Willow? Willow Rosenberg? Is that you?"

Willow head bolted up again, "What? Um.... do I know you?"

"You don't recognize me? I would think of all people you would recognize me." The blonde stranger looked as if she was going to jump for joy.

"No...I'm sorry, I don't." Willow looked at the other woman very confused.

"Tara...you know, monster in the closet Tara, remember...we never did get rid of him." The girl gave Willow a half smile.

That was all the freakiness the red head needed. She jumped up and turned to face the blonde. "Ok, I don't know who the hell you think you are, or how you know what me and my best friend did when we were eight. Ok, my Tara died nine years ago. So I don't know who you're trying to fool here." Willow's eyes filled with tears just as they had that day nine years ago.

The blonde's face seemed to drain, "Willow, I never died. Who told you that?" She saw that Willow was on the brink of tears. "Sweetie don't cry," Tara stood and took the red head in her arms.

At first Willow was reluctant, the thought of a possible stalker holding her as all her pent up emotions came pouring out wasn't something she was taught was right. But right now she needed someone, so she just let herself get pulled into the woman's arms.

"Willow, you really do believe that Tara died don't you? Well, I'll just have to find a way to prove to you that I am Tara. Let's sit and I'll try and convince you." Tara led the crying girl over to the bench and sat, the red head still sobbing into her neck. "Remember the last night I saw you? We were eight, and you were scarred that the monster in your closet had friends and they were all going to team up on you. But I told you that they couldn't do that, because I wouldn't let them. And then you laid your head on my lap and told me that I was the bravest person you knew. Then you asked about my long sleeves. And I told you it was because it was cold. And we just sat there for the longest time, your head in my lap. It was so cute. Or how about the slaying of the monster under your bed. We put pots on our head and both held spatulas, and we told each other that if we didn't live through it, that the other could have anything they wanted out of each other’s rooms. And we scarred that monster so fast that all he left behind was an old sweater." Tara, seeing if it had worked, looked up.

By this time, Willow had stopped crying and sat looking at the blonde girl.

"Do you believe me now?" Tara asked, looking questioningly at the red head.

"No, I don't know how you know those stories. But I'm telling you...it’s not funny, if this is some kind of prank..." Willow trailed off as she saw the blonde pull a folded up photograph. As she watched the girl unfold it, to reveal the very same two little girls as in the picture in her bedroom. And as she looked at the little eight-year-old Tara, and then at the young woman next to her, then she realized, this was Tara, it really was. She flung her arms around her long lost best friend. "It is you! Oh my God! I thought you were dead all these years..." the tears started flowing again.

Tara wrapped her arms around Willow again...for the first time in nine years, they were together again.

Storm-sorry for the delay...but here's your update.

mxgirl314-update here...its not to long...but it works

bindingwiccan-explenations will come in time...

Stroke of Luck-awww...everyone was crying...*sniff* I feel bad now...

red jassy-Was is really that good? Go Me!

browsingviewer- You'll just have to hold your horses.

musicmad10-you'll just have to wait and find out now won't you?

Aineit'll all come in time...

Spikeizmine87-yeah I'm not much of a talker with large amounts of people there...I didn't think so many people would like my story...

Sorry its so short...but here it is...

As the two sat there on that park bench wrapped in eachother's arms, either couldn't help thinking "Is this real? It seems to good to be true, isn't this how all the stories go? Life isn't suppose to workout this easy. I thought I'd never see her again...yet here she is...*sigh*"

Finally, Willow pulled away and looked Tara in the eyes, indeed it was her Tara, how could she have missed it? "It really is you," Willow put her hand on Tara's cheek, yes this was her best friend, this really was Tara.

"Yes it's really me," She gazed lovingly at Willow, "We have a lot to catch up on don't we, now tell me, how did my Willow Rosenberg grow up to such a beautiful woman?"

"M-Me? Beautiful? Ha! It should be me saying the same to you! I mean look at you..." Willow trailed off, eyes wandering over the blonde's body.

Tara blushed, "But who told you I was dead?"

"M-my parents, so you know, being my parents, naturally I believed them. Why would they lie to me about something like that?" Willow frowned.

"I only moved, that night, we packed up and left, I never got to say goodbye. I'm sorry." Tara hugged her best friend.

"Where are you staying?" Willow whispered into Tara's ear.

Tara shivered at the soft feel of Willow's breath on her ear. "I-I live in my car as of now." Tara pulled away.

"Well now you're going to live with me. In my room, in my house, on my street, in this town. I will not have my Tara living in a car." Willow said standing up.

"If you insist, but really you don't have to do this for me." Tara giggled.

"What? Of couse I do. I haven't seen you in nine years, and I've been heartbroken since then! You are coming with me." Willow grabbed Tara's hand and started to pull her down the side walk...then stopped. "Where is your car?"

Tara laughed, "Why don't I come by around 4:00 ok?"

Willow's smile almost reached her ears, "Sounds Great!"

*****

4:01

*****

The door bell rang to the door of the Rosenberg household, and the sound of someone pounding down stairs could be heard.

Willow opened the door and smiled." Tara! You're late missy"

"Only by one minute." Tara giggled. She stood by what she had said before, Willow had grown up to be very attractive...very attractive...Tara's eyes scanned Willows body, she had on a skin tight shirt with a long skirt, showing her lovely curves very nicely.

"So, I'm assuming you remember your way around?" Willow said stepping aside to let Tara in.

"Yup, I do believe I remember." Tara said stepping in and looking around. Everything was as she remembered it.

"Well, lets get you all settled in and then we can talk." Willow led Tara up stairs to her room.

Her room was as Tara remembered it too...so many memories here.

Chapter....uh...3??? i think...3 right?

Postby faithy » Thu Apr 08, 2004 4:12 pm

This ones a little more lengthly...just to make sure you guys don't bite me...

Chapter 3:

"So you've been living in Alabama all this time?" Willow raised her eyebrows. The girls were sitting in Willow's room, both on beanbags on the floor.

"Yeah, are you kidding me? I had to get out of there as fast as I could. As soon as I got a car I high-tailed it out of that dredful place. Well, its not really all that awful the state itself, but more I was sick of my family, I missed to many people here. And between you and me," Tara whispered as if she thought that someone might be listening, "They don't know I left. I snuck out." Her voice returned to normal, "Well they've probably noticed that I'm gone now. But they don't know where I've gone. So for all they know I could be anywhere."

"You talk about them like they're strangers," Willow frowned, Tara had always been weird about talking about herself and family. She had never said anything about it, but now they were older and Tara was still doing it, something was wrong here.

"I-I...umm...I am? I'm s-s-sorry, I'll tr-ry n-not to any m-more" Tara let her hair fall infront of her face.

Willow reached over and tucked that hair behind Tara's ear, "Tare, if you don't want to talk about it you don't have to, I won't make you. But you know you can tell me anything right? Oh Goddess, we're still friends aren't we?" Willow went into panic mode, she sat back and started fidgeting.

"Oh yes sweetheart, we're most definatly still friends. I guess we both have our secrets though huh?" Tara smiled.

"What? I'm not following you." Willow looked up and stopped fidgeting.

"Goddess? Since when has my little Willow practiced another religion behind her parents backs?" Tara teased.

Willow blushed, "Well Miss. Maclay, who ran away from her parents." she smirked at her revenge.

Tara grew silent again, "Tara, oh, I'm so sorry, I didn't mean..." Willow gave Tara a kiss on the forehead, looking worriedly at the blonde.

"No, it's ok, really," Tara turned away.

Willow sat back on her haunches and cocked her head to the side, still frowning, wondering what could possibly bother Tara this much. "Well, now I'll tell you about the past nine years of my life...if you want to hear that..." Willow said trying to get Tara's mind somewhere else.

"Ok..." Tara said quietly.

"It's nothing like yours, but it's something. Well, when I was 15, I started dateing a guitarist named Oz, but he didn't last very long, on acount of something coming up between us." Willow looked down hoping Tara wouldn't ask questions, and to her relief she didn't.

****

Flashback

****

Willow woke with a start, not knowing where she was. Then she remembered, this was Oz's room, she'd been with him last night. But what had they been doing? She shifted beneath the covers, and felt bare blankets touch her skin. She was naked! Oh Goddess! She'd slept with him!

She jumped up, but still careful not to wake Oz. Scrambling for her clothes she quickly put them on.

She was able to successfully sneak out of Oz's house. Now walking down the sidewalk, hair sticking out in all angles, she thought of the consiquences waiting for her when she got home.

Now nearing her house, she prayed to the Goddess that no one would be up yet. The porch swing was swaying in the breeze, good no ones been outside yet. But if no one was up, then the front door would be locked. Oh, she was stuck now, how was she going to get in?

She smacked her head, the porch by her room, and the door leading into it. She had totaly forgotten about it since that time when Xander had tried to sneak in and got caught.

She crept around the side of the house, making sure to keep low by the windows. Her porch slowly came into veiw, the stairs looked a little slimy from lack of use, but they were still strong.

As she took the first step she felt just how slimy the stairs were, her foot felt like it was sinking into the wood, and the railing wasn't much better. she carefully started acending up the rotten staircase, one slimy step after another. Once at the top she looked down, she'd left foot prints, her feet had sunk somewhat into the wood. She would have to come back later after school to smear the prints away.

Entering her room, Willow walked over to her bed and quietly sat on the edge. It was the first time she'd had to really think about what had happened between her and Oz. Now, the more she thought about it, the more she realized that what had happened was real and it felt awful. Not the amazing that Buffy had described it as, she felt revultion more than anything.

But why had it been a tramatic experience for her and not Buffy. She thought about all the differences the friends shared, Buffy, had posters of "hot" guys all over her room. She drooled over almost everyone she met. But Willow, had never really been into guys. Now as she thought about it, anything she had ever considered to be beautiful or attractive had involved women, it all made sence now...she was...

******

End Flashback

******

Willow sighed, looked over at Tara and decided, she had to get it out there, it was now or never. If Tara had been around then she would have told her, but she hadn't, and now that she was, well, no better time than the present..."I was gay," she dropped her eyes, waiting for Tara's response to be just like everyone elses, she waited for Tara to jump up, call her a freek, and run out of there. But it never came, Tara just sat there, looking bewildered.

"And...? What happened next?" Tara brang Willow's head back up to look at her, "You can't just leave me hanging there." She smiled.

"You're not...? You don't care...?" receiving a no from Tara, Willow threw her arms around the blonde, "You haven't changed a bit have you?"

Tara just held on, Willow could answer that for herself.

Sitting back, Willow looked into Tara's eyes, "Need I say anymore? Who's hungery?" She stood up, followed by Tara.

"But what about your parents? Where are they? Are you sure its ok for me to stay here?"

Willow gave Tara's hand a squeeze, "Don't you worry, they're out on business, they should be back within the next two days." Her eyes turned to stone, "And they owe me, don't you worry, you can stay here. They have some explaining to do."

bluewillowwitch:hmmm...yes...mess is a problem, but then you have witnesses, and they all tell the police, soooo...maybe mess is better than getting caught.

lil wiccan:sorry for the delay on the update...

TaraBaby77:*sqeals* yay! you like my story!!

And now for the update, sorry it took so long for so short an update, but I do what I can...another one should follow shortly...*smiles*

Chapter 4:

"Alright, we have...old tuna...ewww...not that...ummm..." Willow turned around, the inside of the refrigerator to her back as if trying to hide the contents, "Uh...it doesn't look like we have anything edible in there..." she smiled nervously, "We could always go out for something...until I clean this thing out and put food in it..."

Tara smiled, "You're so cute. Of course, we can do what ever you want,"

"Or! We could go to The Bronze! They have food, plus, dancing or we could always just...you know...hang out?" the red head flashing another nervous look the blonde's way.

"Ok, sounds like a date."

"Great!"

"So, um, I'm going to go unpack and stuff, and then we can go?" Tara moved toward the door slowly, waiting to see if Willow had anything to add.

"Ok, I'll help." Willow bounced up next to Tara, "Can't let you do it by yourself now can I? Well, I could but then that wouldn't be very nice. I mean, it being my house and all, and not wanting to be impolite..." Willow's babble was abruptly stopped by Tara's finger on her lips. Then Tara slowly and lightly replaced the finger with her lips.

"Now, enough babbling, lets get down to business. Then we can go have our fun." Tara had a seductive, almost dirty smile on her face.

Willow was speechless, Tara kissed her, did this mean what she wanted it to mean? She hoped so. But no jumping to conclusions...now off to work.

Tara had few things to unpack. A few suitcases and a box of stuff. It all fit comfortably in Willow's room.

"Willow, what do you wear to the Bronze? Cause' you know, I've never been there, on account of me not living here my whole life. I-is it like a night club?" Tara turned to face Willow with a questioning look on her face.

"Oh, yes, it is, I'm sorry, I should have told you before, my fault. Umm...you could just wear what you're wearing now. It doesn't really matter." Willow answered quickly.

"Actually, I think I'll change my shirt." Tara turned and started rummaging though drawers.

"Ok, I'll leave then..." The red head started out into the hall, however, she didn't get very far.

"Willow, actually I forgot where you put my shirts, could you give me a hand?" Tara yelled after her.

Willow stopped and thought, where had she put Tara's shirts? With her own? Maybe...

She turned around and headed back into her room, only to stop dead in her tracks. Tara, still looking around her room, had only a bra on, she gulped and stepped forward to help the blonde. "I think I put then with mine somewhere in here," She moved toward her messy dresser, Tara following.

She bent down to open a drawer, Tara doing the same, when she realized that this was the first time she'd seen Tara's arms exposed. She glanced sideways, nothing was wrong with them, faint bruises dotted her arms here and there, but nothing big. Why had Tara made such a big deal out of it?

She opened the drawer in front of her, "There, shirts, if you want, feel free to use any of mine...I don't care."

Willow stepped back to let Tara look. As she did, she caught a glimpse of Tara's back, and she had to do a double take. The blonde's back was covered in horizontal scars...what were they from? "Tara, what are these from?" She came toward Tara again and ran a finger along on of the thin lines that jarred the appearance of the girl’s seemingly perfect skin.

The blonde shot up and turned around, her face looking terrified, her eyes searching Willows, "N-n-nothing..."

Willow examined Tara's expression, then her eyes fell on the shape of a horseshoe branded on Tara's skin just below her right collarbone. "Tara, what is all this? What went on at that farm? " Then realization crossed her face, "You didn't just leave, you ran away."

More soon :love

Wow , you have a real knack for subtlety...the way you move from one emotion to another! I hope Tara will confide in Willow and that you will update soon. I enjoy stories that catch me by surprise! This one did. I also like that the girls have a history so that they were able to reconnect so quickly. It seems as though a big ugly secret has finally been exposed! YAY ! I'll be back for more!

Hey Liz - Just wanted to drop in and say how much I'm enjoying your story. The interaction between W/T is really sweet, and I'm interested to see how you continue now that Willow's discovered Tara's scars. The range of emotions in this fic is really intense, and you're doing a great job! Keep it up!

:wtf happend to our beloved Tara?! Those bastards, how could they do that to her. :rage

I bet Tara forgot all those scars, when Willow was around. She felt comfy next to her so...i bet it was a huge SHOCK for Willow. Hopefully Tara will tell her the truth and wont hide anything from her.

Great update, but it was kinda a shock
