Unseen: Long Way Home

DO NOT POST - Backup in Progress

Unseen: Long Way Home

Postby DISASTERAREA » Thu Aug 30, 2001 5:27 am

I've just got the third book this morning from amazon, flicking through Tara and Willow dont meet back up but do do some more mind meld type thingies...for those that are interested on choice exchange goes like this:

Willow looked up toward the ceiling and sent out an audible thought:
Tara, can you hear me?
Yes, Willow
I love you
And I love you
All this stuff is really weird, dont you think, Tara?
Yeah someone should write a book about it

They giggled together.

There's also some stuff about Tara and her demon secret...just thoughts and stuff

Also Faith is in it..YAY heres a couple of tit bits:

Faith touched Buffy's arm-an alien gesture, to her, showing Buffy affection or concern. Buffy forced a smile, and then looked away quickly.
Really gets to her, Faith thought. After all this time, saving people's lives day in day out, to miss just one still tears her apart.

and this one made me laugh

"Okay" replied Faith, with a faint grin. Summers you are such a geek.

I'll post some more when I've read it prperly, gimme a chance people I've only had the book 1 & 1/2 hours.

Is there some conspiracy to keep these two apart during most of this book series? Just kidding.

Thanks for posting these bits. I like the Tara "I love you" and Faith's lines. I'll definitely buy this in the store and not try to order online with Amazon. Too slow last time. Although you said you got yours from Amazon.

I am hitting the bookstore today for this, I also understood that the other buffy, lost slayer book was out. Tara is supposed to show up in that one as well.

I am disappointed they don't meet back up. I do like the I love yous but.. sigh. I don't know.

Oooh, at least they've progressed to love. If you remember in the first book, Tara wasn't sure if it was love, after all.

I'm heading on over to Amazon right now. I have a month, fingers crossed.

The first book was not accurate. It is
sooo obvious Tara fell in love with Willow
at first sight

I have A Long Way Home as well, but I haven't
gone very far.

Okay, definitely hitting the bookstore today, like I've been doing between classes every day since Monday! (With no luck so far, needless to say.) Borders Northridge didn't have it yesterday but I didn't check out the Barnes and Noble since they were starting to look at me very funny every day when I barged in . . .

Ruth wrote:

I was thinking about that, actually, Ruth--wondering whether or not I was expecting too much of the books by thinking that it couldn't have been a throwaway line. But it kinda stuck out, so I'm glad it turned out to be setting us up for this.

As for that . . . I do think Tara fell in love with Willow right off, but there's always the issue of whether or not she was able/willing to see it as such, for herself . . .

I'm still reading, I would have finished but I got rudely interuptted by having to go to work...I know what I'd rather be doing and its definitely not a buggering 8 hour shift. I like the bits with Faith...but thats probably cos I like Faith fullstop, it'd be interesting to see what would happen if she was back on the show.

btw I ordered my copy on amazon ages ago, so thats probably why I got this early...and what a nice suprise...my little brother David woke me up this morning by shouting "bickiee, bickiee" (my names Vicki but the poor love cant say it right..bless his very little cotton socks) and chucking the parcel at my face when all I did was grunt

Well I ordered it, how long it takes remains to be seen. I could be gone! Horrors.

Anyway, Shanie, I'm of the opinion that Tara fell in love with Willow pretty much right away. But I don't think she wanted to give it a name, because you know, it's the 'L' word. Bless her.

They're a series of three Buffy/Angel tie-in novels. The first was called Unseen: The Burning, the second was called Unseen: Door to Alternity and the third one is Unseen: the Long Way Home. They're available in paperback for approx. £5.99 at your friendly neighbourhood bookshop. They're also the first Buffy tie-in novels to feature Tara and W/T, which is why we're all excited about them.

Here are the threads about the other two books for those interested:

BtVS novel "Unseen: Door to Alternity"

Unseen: The Burning

Thanks for posting this Disasterarea!
So you have not finished reading it right? So we may still get that "must have a mushy reunion scene"?

Blergh, I need to wake up, I never had so much trouble posting a link.

Tyche already said what this is about, but maybe if you read the threads I linked you will understand it better. "Unseen" is a 3 part Buffy/Angel cross-over series that has W/T in it. The first Buffy books that have them in it, hence the interest.

(The following largely for xita's benefit, but also for your amusement at my truly desperate and bored machinations.)

No sign of it in the Barnes and Noble in Northridge as of yesterday. Will be checking Borders today and going back to BN, as well as the BN and Borders in Glendale (I've given up on the Burbank BN).

I shall continue on my quest undaunted, for both Long Way Home and the second Lost Slayer book. Never fear.

Until they have me thrown out of all those bookstores for coming in every day and never buying a thing.

Yeah, that's exactly what I did, xita--ordered them on Amazon, where they arrived about two weeks after I'd already picked up my copies at the bookstore. It just figures it would work the other way around this time.

Edited to add . . .

Several hours later, my mission is a partial success. Barnes and Noble in Burbank did, in fact, have quite a few copies of this book in stock, and I naturally snagged one. Only about a third of the way through reading, but so far I really liked Tara's bonding moment with Xander.

quote:

Tara felt thwarted, and claustrophobic. She remembered that this feeling had come over her once before, when she had realized that the Scooby Gang didn't consider her one of their own.

Am I having a panic attack? she wondered.

"I-I need to go," she blurted, fighting her stammer.

"Then I'll go with you," Xander suggested. "You shouldn't go out there alone."

"Xander, you're such a he-man," Anya cooed. "Even if I get my powers back someday, I will never, ever eviscerate you."

"An, how romantic. Yet oddly comforting," he said. He looked around. "Riley leave any Uzis lying around? Bazookas? Wish we still had the rocket launcher."

"That was a fine weapon," Giles said wistfully.

Joyce Summers stared at him. "When was there a rocket launcher?"

"I'll get a mace. I like maces," Xander suggested, as he crossed to Giles's weapons trunk. He rummaged around, then hefted a wood-handled weapon topped with a metal sphere covered with spikes. "How about you?" he asked Tara "Would you like a shishkabobber or something?"

"I-I'll stick to magick," she said shyly.

"Giles, when was there a rocket launcher? Did you give my daughter a rocket launcher?" Joyce persisted.

Xander said to Tara, "Let's blow this popstand while they duke it out." He flashed his friendly grin at her and together they walked to the door.

"Don't let anyone bite your head off," Anya called.

"We'll just step right outside door number 217 so we can breathe in the smoke and ash particles," Xander promised. "Then we'll come right back in. Good, Tara?"

"S-sure." She ducked her head. She liked Xander and Anya. She wondered what would happen if the others discovered that all the women in her family were demons. That was why she'd left home and come to Sunnydale . . . to escape, if not that legacy, then at least to keep her terrible secret to herself. But she figured that if Anya found out, she would forgive her for not coming forward . . . and she might actually like her even better.

Not that she's unfriendly now, Tara thought.

. . . (Some stuff omitted here because it's not particularly relevant to why I like the passage, plus I just don't feel like typing it up. Suffice to say that Tara's intuition tells her that something's happened to Riley, and the Scoobies split up to go looking for him. Giles and Anya have teamed up, as have Tara and Xander. Remember, supernatural chaos still reigns in the streets of Sunnydale at this point. Joyce has a machete, which royally amuses me.)

Tara and Xander moved out, walking briskly. Xander put the battleax over his shoulder and started humming "Follow the Yellow Brick Road." Tara used to be shocked by the way these people joked during times of crisis, but she had come to realize that they did it to keep themselves from wigging out. Being wry and cynical was a way to ground themselves, poke fun at death. It was the same with fighter pilots and emergency room doctors.

"If you're the scarecrow, who am I?" she asked, as the sky thundered and rolled, making the ground shake.

"Well, let's see. You definitely have a heart," he said, smiling at her. "And a brain."

"I'm the Cowardly Lion," she ventured shyly.

"No way." Xander chuckled. "You're one of the bravest people I've ever met in my life."

Tara was surprised . . . and pleased. "Thank . . . thank you."

"It's a fact. I'd be terrified to do half the stuff you do. And coming out . . . that was really brave of you and Will." He grinned at her. Then his smile fell a little. "She's happy, right?"

He still loves her, Tara realized. A part of him will always love a part of her. And that's fine with me.

There's so much more to relationships than what meets the eye. The pairing up and the being couples and the being in relationships . . . that's just the surface stuff.

"She's happy," Tara said. "I promise."

"That's great." He meant it.

Oh, and I tracked down The Lost Slayer: Dark Times today. Don't bother, if you're looking for Tara . . . she's not in it. It's a very interesting alternate future, but so far no Tara. She may show up in the third or fourth installment, but that's at least a month off . . .

I agree, it is nice to see this in the novels, particularly since Xander's comment about Tara in Family in that awful scene with Buffy. That always offended me, because I thought that somehow they were only tolerating Tara because of Willow being their friend. I'd like to see some of this being explored in the show, if possible. It's about time Xander embraced his 'lesbian' appreciation.

No...I don't mean in that way...sigh...shut up Ruth, just shut up...

She may show up in the third or fourth installment, but that's at least a month off . . .

Yeah, I was very pleasantly surprised by that, and very glad that they not only were up front about W/T's relationship (and have been throughout this trilogy), but that it's been handled so well. Even yielding some really sweet moments like that one.

More as I keep reading . . .

Thanks for posting bits from the book. My bookstores aren't stocking it yet.

Xander/Tara bonding - that's something we really haven't seen much of and it was very well done.

Both the comics and the books are doing a great job with the gay issue. Looking forward to more!

Tyche already said what this is about, but maybe if you read the threads I linked you will understand it better. "Unseen" is a 3 part Buffy/Angel cross-over series that has W/T in it. The first Buffy books that have them in it, hence the interest.

She may show up in the third or fourth installment, but that's at least a month off . . .

Somehow I thought you would be, Ruth!

Yeah, I was very pleasantly surprised by that, and very glad that they not only were up front about W/T's relationship (and have been throughout this trilogy), but that it's been handled so well. Even yielding some really sweet moments like that one.

More as I keep reading . . .

Both the comics and the books are doing a great job with the gay issue. Looking forward to more!

Oh good the last part is out, just when I have nothing to do apart from read. As long as it has some Willow and Tara in then I can be happy.

Ok shanie this is my frustration. I took went to both those places and nothing. For the last 2 books, I had them ordered on Amazon. Well they were available at the bookstore before amazon sent them and I ended up with 2 copies. This time I decided to wait for the bookstore, well guess what... people who ordered on amazon already got it. I hate this.

She may show up in the third or fourth installment, but that's at least a month off . . .

Wow, talk about handling the gay situation. This is just excellent. God, I'm happy. And it seems, easily pleased!

Somehow I thought you would be, Ruth!

Yeah, I was very pleasantly surprised by that, and very glad that they not only were up front about W/T's relationship (and have been throughout this trilogy), but that it's been handled so well. Even yielding some really sweet moments like that one.

More as I keep reading . . .

On a bad day, who would you kill? Take a stand, trace your hand. There's always the sky; let it hear what you're saying for all that you are saying. And let it take you apart to the elements of praying, till we are only praying to the firmament . . ." -- Dar Williams, "Playing to the Firmament"

Nope it is a really bad pun, I'm still reading, but I'm not working this weekend, giving up my overtime to read this book (plus I've got a sprained ankle because of my friend's dog...dont ask) so I should be finished before the England v Germany game (we're signing for England, Eng-ger-land)

Oh the machete bit amused me so much to Shanie, plus Joyce's obssession with the bazooka...hehe, I gonna miss her so.

Edited to say: bloody hell...5-1...I'm gonna have to recover from my hysteria before I can even attempt to say anything that resembles a sentence that makes any sense on the subject of anything...at all

while we're on the subject of these can i ask if anyone else thought Tara wasn't really Tara in the first couple of books? she just seemed weird to me cos i can remember they had her arguing things with people quite a lot and at the end of season four she wouldn't really do that would she? or is that just me??

Bump bump bump . . .

Hey Kitties, just thought I'd notify y'all that I spent time between classes going through the book for all the W/T bits, which have been duly marked and shall be typed up by me at some point tonight (when I get home from work) for your enjoyment.

There's also a couple of cool Faith bits that I'd be happy to toss in as well--any takers?
