I am sure that Joss said Kate would be in 6 episodes next season just to wrap up her character. Although I would love it if the kept Kate as a reacurring character.

I would presume that Aly's difficulty with the first week of shooting would be hinged upon her crazy schedule as well as possible problems with actual BTVS related issues.

She recently finished filming American Pie 2 (from what I understand they didn't finish filming until early summer) and the press junket for AP2 is starting as well as her shooting schedule for BTVS. If the spoilers we've heard are even remotely true I'd guess that the premiere is going to be Willow-centric and if she does bring Buffy back then there's most likely some non-English spell(s) to be memorized. I'm sure it's all of this that is contributing to her dismay.

LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) - In the late '80s, Keith Szarabajka helped Edward Woodward fight crime in "The Equalizer"; in 1991, he aged backwards for Stephen King's limited series "Golden Years" ; and in 1996, he ran a family corporation in the short-lived series "Profit." Since then, he's worked on TV series and movies, along with doing voice work for video games and such animated series as "The Wild Thornberrys" and "Max Steel."

This fall, though, he's on the vengeance trail in The WB's "Angel," which launches its new season on Sept. 24. He's playing Holtz, a vampire hunter from the past who has come to the 21st century to settle scores with the title character (David Boreanaz). By the way, the fact that "Angel" executive producer (with "Buffy" creator Joss Whedon) David Greenwalt worked on "Profit" is no accident.

"He was a decent family man," says Greenwalt of the character, "but he also became a fearless vampire killer. He particularly hunted Angel and Darla across half of Europe in the late 1700s, and they reciprocated by eating his wife and children, because they thought that would be funny."

"So he has a special vendetta against them."

Convinced by a demon that he had no chance of killing Angel -- then evil and known as Angelus -- in the 1700s, Holtz accepted an offer to be put to sleep until the present. Played with an English accent, he nevertheless, according to Greenwalt, has "something of the long duster coat and the Wild West about him."

But Holtz won't be the only thing troubling Angel this season. With his soul restored to him by a Gypsy curse, he already suffers guilt about his evil past, but that suffering is about to become much more acute and immediate.

"There's a vampire hunter," says Greenwalt, "but stay tuned."

Greenwalt wouldn't have minded following elder-sister series "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" to a new home on UPN, but he's not surprised to still be on The WB. "My theory is simple," he says, "and I had it from the get-go, was, as much as there was a part of me that would have liked to stay a little closer to Mr. Whedon, I knew they were never going to let us go. We're a good show. Why would they let 'Angel' go?"

"Why on Earth would they let 'Angel' go, except for some kind of animosity, which, in the end, when the dust settles, this is not a business about spite. It's a business about numbers and ratings."

Although separated by different networks -- which makes storyline crossovers fairly impossible this season -- "Buffy" and "Angel" remain close companions, with many writers and producers sharing responsibilities and credits on both shows.

So, while Greenwalt's primary focus is "Angel," he keeps up on all the latest at "Buffy," which launches with a two-hour episode on Oct. 2 on UPN. In particular, he's psyched about the musical "Buffy," set for November.

"Wait till you hear the 'Buffy' sixth episode. Oh, my god. I'm telling you ... Tim (" Angel" co-executive producer Tim Minear) and I went to Cape Cod to work with Joss in early July. He had four or five of the songs sort of finished. I mean, we were staggered, just staggered. They're really just what you would expect. It's going to be the amazing show of the year."

Despite intense speculation and polarized opinions on whether Buffy (Sarah Michelle Gellar) should ever reciprocate lovesick vampire Spike's (James Marsters) affections -- after they somehow raise her from the grave she went into at season's end -- Greenwalt's pretty sanguine about the concept.

"It's so wrong," he says with a laugh. "You know the boyfriend you hate, but it's just for the sex, and your friends all hate him, but you can't leave him? It's a natural place for her to go, in this year of her life. She's so troubled. He's the one she can talk to. It's just one of those funny quirks of life. Credit to Joss, he's not doing Sam and Diane of 'Cheers' for five years."

"We've done 100 'Buffys,' and we've done 44 'Angels' now, and I still feel that the shows are very fresh and new. That's hard to say."

Along with Holtz and new regular Fred (Amy Acker), Greenwalt promises lots of action, lots of new challenges for Angel and his crew (and a few emotional entanglements). "It's going to be a big year on both shows," he says. "'Buffy's' going to go 10 years, you watch. I really do think so. This show's going to go forever. There's something so primal about it."

But will Gellar want to go forever? "You know," he says, "there's a beautiful little sister. Michelle (Trachtenberg) is fabulous, and she's the age Buffy was when we started the show."

Buffy ended last season in a tight spot - her own coffin - but things
are about to change, big-time, as she embarks on a new era and stakes
her claim to a new network, UPN. "Fans can expect an un-dead Buffy,"
said executive producer, Marti Noxon, who wrote the first half of the
two part premiere, about Buffy's leap to life. "It's the real Buffy.
I won't say how she gets there, bit it's the real Buffy. It makes
sense, and it works. Nobody will step out of a shower and realize it
was a dream."

"The theme of the season is 'Oh grow up', because both Dawn and Buffy
lost their mom. Giles is going to be a little bit less of a presence
this year, so they're both in a situation where they have to act in a
more adult capacity," Noxon noted. "Xander and Anya are going to be
engaged, so they're dealing with some really adult responsibilities."
Willow and Tara's relationship will evolve, said Noxon. "They're
going to go through all the things all of our couples do, which is
hard times."

Sunnydale's bad boy, Spike, will get lots more airtime, "We'll be
continuing to follow his feelings for Buffy."

And then there's the all singing/all dancing episode. "(Creator) Joss
(Whedon) is working so hard on the music," Noxon said. "It's going to
be really remarkable."

In a nutshell: Buffy will no doubt be changed after being dead, so
look for a more mature take on slaying the undead.

I am trying hard not to have a reaction to that. I am worried though. I won't lie. But I am with Scout, Xander/Anya better share the angst because they've had none, but like Bob says all the time it's because JOss loves w/t and it is true love, it wouldn't be dramatic otherwise. And yes hard times don't mean breakups. Bring the angst already sigh.

The alternative would be to have them be all sweet and lovey-dovey until the general public gets bored with them, and we certainly don't want that. Besides, I think the conflict is going to give Tara more of her own identity and less of a role as little more than "Willow's girlfriend."

Remember Amber's comment about Tara being there to illuminate Willow's character? From a writer's pov there's no better way to do this than through conflict. Of course, if they have a fight that presents the opportunity for a great make-up scene. Maybe we'll get to see some passionate smoochies while horizontal. That would push the envelope a little.

As for Anya and Xander, they seem like much better candidates for relationship troubles than W/T. In IWMTLY, a show mostly about relationshhips, they contrasted Anya's and Tara's different reactions at the party, with Tara getting jealous. There was also a lot of B/S stuff. I could see them doing something similar this year, looking at how different people react to similar relationship issues. It would make a lot more sense to me though if they had A&X get into a huge fight over some kind of petty misunderstanding.

About the girls, Will and Tara I mean, what would be nice in terms of stucture would be something close to the Willow/Oz thing in S3 : all good for 6-8 eps, then boom something bad, 4-6 eps of apart time, then back together again til the end of the season... I always thought the way storylines unfolded in S3 was great, not as rushed as it is sometimes. It would be nice to see something like that again.

It would figure that Willow/Tara angst would occur since that's been a pattern in their relationship: at least one nerve-racking moment per season. In Season 4, it was Oz coming back; last season it was "Tough Love" through "The Gift"; this season, who knows. But it will come.
