Thanks Teri, I like Amber's reply to being a regular in Buffy.

Amber Benson: At this point, I'm still a recurring character in the Buffyverse, but someday I hope to ascend to the opening credits stratosphere. I just hope they'd use the kiss from the body in my opening stuff. Hehe.

I hope they do to

Wonderful interview, *love* the pics.
And time for a little Kitten Board chest thumping now, I think this board has done much good, publicity and contribution wise. Yay on Jen and Xita's Kitten Board.

Rock on Chance! It really is a brilliant movie and should be seen by *all*.

Well he already knew how important Amber is to BtVS, he has said so often enough. And it has been reaffirmed by the way Amber has conquered the UK. There can be no doubt as to how well loved she is and how good she is for BtVS. Not just the character of Tara, but Amber herself. She has won many hearts, and those that were hers already love her more than ever now.

So yeah give her the credit that she is due and make her a regular. Pretty please...

I like Amber's comments here, this plus the kittie's question at nocturnal make me feel good about Amber's future. I have a feeling she knows well why she isn't a regular. There's some reason. However, she wants to be a regular and Joss says Tara isn't going anywhere, she's a big part of the heart of the show. So, I think she's sticking around. Whatever the reasons for her not being a regular, whatever. I am sure she'll have her screentime this year and next.

And it's great to see Amber and Jen's site getting some press. It rocks. It always makes me smile to think hey, I had a hand in making this happen. Feels good.

Great interview.

I was scared when Joss said that Amber would not be a regular next season, I thought that she was the one who didn't want it but now that we know she wants to be a regular, it begs the question...WHY isn't she Joss???

I still can't understand why she's not a regular. It bites. I know about the male to female ratio and all but isn't that what Buffy's all about? The women, strong and proud? Hmm. It still worries me a little that she might just take off in the middle of a season.

I know xita, I know. It just worries me that's all. Even though Seth Green was in the credits and he still upped and offed. I need some reassurance, positive reassurance that Tara will still be there. I worry.

I do not buy that gender balance thing, it is not a good reason for not adding Amber as a regular. On Star Trek DS9 there were only 2 female regulars, same for The Next Generation, oh and Woo Hoo for Voyager for having 3. *grumble*

I'm worried, too. We need to hear it from Joss why she's not a regular. It also makes it harder when you know she really wants to be one, but he's not going for it.

I also worry that her character won't be examined more in S6 if she's not a regular. There are so many issues about Tara that he could build stories around, but I'm afraid he'll let those opportunities slip away.

We should know by now that being in the opening credits doesn't guarantee that an actor is going to stay on the show (Seth and Marc both left), and not being in the opening credits doesn't mean an actor won't stick around for the entire season (Amber stayed all last year).

Whatever the reasons are behind Amber not being in the credits, I don't think it's a cause for concern. We (admittedly biased) folks may not think it's fair, but I don't think we can take it as a portent of doom.

I agree with you Bob. Tara has had an entire episode devoted to her. In fact we know as much about her background as we do about say, Willow's. Not even mentioning Anya and Xander. There are questions to be answered for sure. And I believe we will get them.

My fear was that maybe Amber for some reason did not want to be in the credits. I did not believe it to be so, but I feared it nonetheless. I am not worried she will leave the show. I have said it before, I think she and Tara are too important a part to BtVS now. She is not going anywhere. Bob, do the mantra please.

Editing: nevermind, I see you already did.

I found the thought of Amber not wanting it much more frightening than whatever other reason there may be. Do the mantra, it is true. She'll stay.

I'm not going to worry about Joss not making Amber a regular. As Bob pointed out being in the credits doesn't guarantee that an actor is going to stay with the show. I think Joss has too much invested in the Willow/Tara relationship to let anything happen to her.

I'll side with Bob and Roxton; I'm not particularly worried. They've already cited Seth Green and Marc Blucas, so I'll take the other side and comment that Kristine Sutherland spent a solid five seasons as a recurring character. Around these parts, that's some pretty good longevity! Granted, she wasn't in every episode, but that didn't stop Joyce Summers from becoming a well-known and well-loved part of the cast of characters. And then, consider how many significant moments in the past two seasons have involved Tara in some way, and how pivotal she's been, especially in the latter part of season five.

So while I still wish that I could look forward to turning on my TV Tuesday nights next season and seeing a montage of Ambery goodness with her name in the credits, and I'm a bit surprised to find that Amber wanted it and it was Joss's decision, I trust the man. I'll go with it.

I've also got these weird, very vague speculations that could be very cool. But I'm not going to say anything about them, because every time I talk about these things, I end up jinxing them. It kinda sucks.

Yes, Shanie... Kristine did a solid five years, and Armin Shimmerman did a solid two-and-a-half.

Speaking of Armin, I could go outside the Buffyverse and point out that several actors did a solid [b:bc01f836e3]seven[/b:bc01f836e3] years as recurring characters on [i:bc01f836e3]Star Trek: Deep Space Nine[/i:bc01f836e3]. Marc Alaimo, Aron Eisenberg, Rosalind Chao, Max Grodenchik, and Andrew Robinson were all part of the recurring cast from early in Season 1 to the very end of Season 7, and several other actors, including Louise Fletcher, Chase Masterson, Jeffrey Combs, Salome Jens and Penny Johnson did multi-year stints as well.

I really am wondering why Amber isn't gonna be a reg yet. More and more I'm thinking it may be plot-driven. Maybe there's something coming up that will necessitate a few Taraless eps. Or...we know there was the rumor that Aly might be taking a small leave of absence- it'd probably be easier to explain both girls being gone for a while that explaining Willow being away without Tara.

I'm not really worried- I get the sense Tara and Amber aren't leaving BtVS anytime soon. I'd just be happier knowing why.

Chase Masterson played Leeta the Dabo Girl on [i:9df6f0f5a2]Star Trek: Deep Space Nine[/i:9df6f0f5a2], and no I didn't actually get to meet her. She was sitting at a table in an autograph line and I was taking pictures of all the people signing the autographs. I waved and said thank you after she posed for me.

Now where did I put those pics...?

Unfortunately, the gender bias only works one way. I don't any show is concerned about too many male leads. Most shows have a decidedly male cast. It's sad but that's the way it works. TOo many females and that's just no good.

Cool interview! I'm so happy to see Chance getting publicity, and I'm so so happy that we all helped Amber get it made. Did I mention that I can't wait to see it?

Regarding the Amber-not-in-the-credits thing...I'm not sure I buy the gender balance thing either. It's just not a strong enough reason. And my concern is not so much the possibility that Amber might leave the show--though that is a concern, to be sure--but rather the fact that it seems to me like a diss to the lesbian character. I don't think it's fair to put Tara in the same category as other recurring characters like Joyce or Snyder, because they are adult characters and it's an established part of the show that Giles is the only major adult character...and now even that is changing. The show was about adolescents, now it is about young adults...its major theme, of self-discovery and of finding one's place in the world, is endemic to this group. Tara fits into this in a way that Joyce et. al. never could. Her stories--her shy dyke witch stories, stories that no one else on the show has--are aching to be told, and I am very disappointed that they are not going to be accorded the same respect as those of the other characters.

I was very angry when this news first broke, but it abated somewhat when I let myself believe the possibility that it was Amber's choice. Now we know that that is not the case. Not only that, but it seems that Amber herself is disappointed that she has not been made a regular, which only makes me angrier.

I started writing a letter to Joss, voicing my disappointment, then decided to hold off until it became clear who's decision this was. I am working on finishing it now.
