I don't understand all this talk about her crying. Being able to cry for an actor is like, the true test of their abilities. And Aly makes it so real as well. I hate people sometimes. Darnit!

To see Aly cry, feel her pain and because of that cry along with her is a sign of a gifted actress.

Yes I cry along with Willow and Buffy manages to get me as well. Though there has been a lot of crying this year. It still gets me.

I cry when Willow cries, when Tara cries, when Anya cries in "The Body," and most of the time when Buffy cries. In between all of them, I've been crying at television a lot this year.

*laugh* Well, I didn't cry every time he showed up, but I think my brain functions flatlined (not in a good way) every time he showed up without his shirt.

Aly is a great actress. I think the problem some people have with her acting is that the role itself is changing. Willow is maturing, and she isn't quite the same person she was in highschool. Some people seeing a subtle difference in the character assume the actor is out of character. Part of the reason I love BtVS is that is one of the few shows on TV with characters that actually evolve over time, instead of pressing the reset button at the end of every ep.

(edited to add.. Riley ... )

OK, sorry to drag this thing to the top again .... Aly can't act - grrrr ..... but I thought that this was a nice conclusion for the "Aly can't act" thing .....

While reading Dreamwatch issue 81 in bed last night I came across this quote form The James Marsters interview regarding Aly's acting ability, nothing special I know but I just thought I'd post it anyway

"We probably have the strongest group of actors that I've ever worked with in my life. I'm proud to show up for every day. By the way, I have to say Alyson Hannigan kicks butt! She's just amazing...and she never needs more than one take. I wish we had more scenes [together]. Every time we have a scene it just goes through the roof! We've only had two big ones this season and I've loved both of them"

James Marsters should know - he's one of the best actors on "Buffy", after all ....

Needless to say (and yet I will say it anyway) I absolutely agree with the man, and it is very nice to hear him say this. But you need not be a great actor (as he surely is) to recognize that Alyson Hannigan is a wonderful actress. Same goes for the rest of the cast. They are all wonderful, but of course I am positively biased towards Alyson and Amber. Those who say otherwise, well, stuff 'em I say.

But err...if Alyson only needs one take, then I guess it means it was Amber's 'fault' that they had to kiss like 400 times.

*Stalk*

Typical of you to think of that G-man.
But yeah i guess it was.

Going back to what was said about Aly able to make people cry as well as herself.
She gets me every time when she crys. She is truly the best actress ever.

Yes she is amazing. This quote from Joss also confirms what we can see!

Aly's a POWERHOUSE!

quote:

The Most Underrated Actor
"Oh yeah, I'm gonna say that because the other actors won't be pissed. (Laughs) I will say that all my actors are capable of almost anything. They all get the chance to be heroic, to be ridiculous. If there's one character that I think a lot of the show rests on, that some of the brass haven't really noticed, it would be Willow. Just because I think (Alyson Hannigan) is kind of a powerhouse. This year, she hasn't done as much. Next year is gonna be a big year for that character."

Dr. G: Maybe they screwed up on purpose .... at least that's what I would do .....

...."Next year is gonna be a big year for that character." - I'm guessing "repercussions for the dark mojo" here ..... but I'm sure that W/T goodness will also be included ....

....btw, "she didn't have much to do" ? I wonder if Joss is watching his own show .... the last few episodes were very satisfactory from a Willow, Tara and W/T standpoint ....

It's funny, this was supposedly not a Willow year but she had a bigger year then Xander and Giles, IMHO. I mean at the beginning of the season there wasn't much but it started to change half way through and that last few since Tough Love were all Willow.

When you look at how far Aly has taken her character from the first time we saw Willow in Welcome to the Hellmouth, it only serves to reinforce what an amazing actress she is. Given what Joss has said about next season being a big year for Willow then we are definitely in store for some awesome performances by Aly.

If you ask me, I think a "big year for Willow" would involve the consequences of getting involved with all of that "Darkest Magick" stuff. In fact, Jane Espenson implied as much in a radio interview.

But she said that it could be two seasons until then, Hemiola ....that would make it season 7 - not that I'd complain - this would mean much Willow in seasons 6 and 7 - yummy !

.....I have to say that Joss amazes me when he says that Willow had not much to do this year - but like someone else said: The more the better !

Roxton: Very true - I just began watching my season 2 DVDs and I'm quite amazed how good she was then and how much better she's now -she's just an amazing actress (the Eskimo dress *happy sigh*) and I have to admit that season 2 still gives me fuzzy feelings because of the closeness of the gang .....

...btw, a bit off-topic: Does anyone have the DVD's ? How can one make sure that they don't get dirty/scratchy ? IMHO the "book" for storing them looks good, but it seems to be a bit impractical ....

I am a woman of few words so I will get right to it. Aly is brilliant. Watching brings me total joy. My mark of a good actor is when I can forget who the person is I'm watching. Aly does this for me. When I watch Aly I don't see Aly, I see Willow or Michelle.

Gosh, I didn't think you people cared.

Am pleased that the topic I started got a great response. Thanks for confirming what I'd felt all along.

Just thought Aly needed to be given her props; to me; it seems lately that Amber's been more of the board's focus (not that there's anything wrong with that), I know because of the Tara haters she needs all our support, but I don't want Aly to get lost in the shuffle; and I'm not just saying this cause I have a thing for redheads. Don't tell my wife I said that, though: she's a brunette.

You people? Uhm, well nevermind. Of course we care. You have given one of the reasons why Amber seems to be more in the picture here. I think, it also has to do with fact that Amber is making more public appearances than Aly.

But Willow is one half of the whole that we love. Alyson is the one who made her come to life. I can never thank her enough for the goodness that she gives. So I care, I care a lot. I am glad you've started this thread as well, for you are right, she deserves to be given all honour as well.

Bless Joss for his words. Heh. Makes me look forward to next season even more, if that is at all possible.
