The day started off kinda crappy, but got immensely better. I took a final that went well, found out I got As on a few assignments I thought I'd done badly on, hung out with two dear friends, got a scarf from one of my friends who got it for me on her trip Europe that she just returned from, and even found a drink I like. Definitely felt like a fun an successful day, and tomorrow I get to hang out with another friend and watch Gilmore Girls. It's turning out to be a very nice weekend :)

This is by far my toughest week of the year work wise. It's absolutely exhausting and every year I pray that I make it through without any major equipment malfunctions and with my sanity intact.

With that said, I had 3 people single me out today to tell me that they loved my work and couldn't have been happier with their portraits. The bonus...they said it right in front of my biggest client:)

It always makes me extremely happy when my clients like my work and I'm not posting this to gloat, because they're are plenty that think I suck and have no problem voicing their opinion. It's just nice to hear heartfelt compliments from time to time!

It's been a really good last few days. Friday I was up way too late, but got all my assignments done, and Saturday found out I got 100s on 3 of the 4. Saturday I took one of my finals and it went well, up until I got an error message when submitting it, but my teacher just gave me an average of the first two exam grades and told me I made an A in the class so I'm very happy. Saturday evening my best friend picked me up and we went to get another friend who'd just gotten back from Europe, and she gave us scarves and fancy chocolates and my first-ever jammy dodger, then the 3 of us went out. We had planned to go to a club but E wasn't in the mood which suited me just fine, so we went somewhere very low-key and talked for a couple hours (mostly about E's trip) while having drinks, then we decided to come back to my place and got some bailey's and chocolate milk which turned out to be the first drink I've found that I love and talked a while longer, mostly just laughing about random shit. The next day I watched some Angel and Doctor Who, then in the afternoon another friend came over, we talked for a couple hours, she told me I'm like the big sister she doesn't feel overshadowed by, we ate pizza and watched tons of Gilmore Girls, we laughed a whole whole lot, and my awesome roommate brought donuts that she shared with us. Yesterday I worked a few hours and had a lot of fun with the little one who was in a great mood, then I went to the gym and had a great workout, watched some more Doctor Who, and took my last final which went pretty well (despite only having studied about 20 minutes).
Now the semester is over and there's a good chance I got all A's (which would be the first time in college when taking more than 1 class at a time-- in fact I think it would be the first semester since elementary school that I got all As), I have nearly 2 weeks until school starts back, and I get to have lots of down-time. Granted I've had too much downtime most of this summer, but the last couple of weeks have been pretty exhausting, and it'll be nice to relax for a bit before I go back to working 45 hours a week and taking 2 evening classes.
All in all, life's pretty good right now :)

I just spoke to a college friend on the phone for about 40 minutes. I know she sent Asher a present when he was born and we got maybe one more x-mas card and then she moved and I've never been able to find. Her first name and last name are both in the top 5 most common names in America so it's impossible to find her on the Internet. A few months ago her husband FB invited me from an old e-mail address. I accepted just to get in touch with her but he never responded. Yesterday I chatted him and he gave me her phone #. They're getting divorced but she seemed ok about it. I'm just glad he gave me the #!

Getting back in the wedding videography game . . . hooked up with a videographer who's going to train me on the newer cameras, and eventually pay me for my work. Beats a retail part time job, that's for sure.

Watching Imagine Me & You for the first time, pretty excited! And leaving for family camp tomorrow, mixed feelings about being stuck with my mother for a week, but I am exceed about seeing Jer, Aria, and Nen. We're gonna skip out on the teen's night activities, because they're geared towards the middle and high school students. Instead we're gonna play board games and raid the kitchen. Possibly take an afternoon and go to Story Land or Santa's Village. And Jer and I will do the 4,000 footer while Nen and Aria do the sissy hike, and all four of us will pile in a canoe for a day (maybe we'll actually sink it this year), we'll make fun of Aria for her phonecalls to her boyfriend, and I'll drive the wake up truck, and play heads or tails for insies at least once.

So two weeks ago I had an argument with my girlfriend's mother, and snapped at her. This resulted in a lot of stress for her, for my girl, and for I. But I do know I was justified. Now that thing that makes me post here is that, 1/ her family believes I was justified and found better words in Dutch to explain to her how I was feeling, 2/ Now she actually asks if she can come in and do stuff in my house, and she actually check if she can come by before coming here. It is a big improvement that won't last but hey, I am enjoying it for now.

Tonight I hopefully get to see my best friend for the last time before she heads back to school, tomorrow afternoon I get to see my nephew and at least one of my sisters, and tomorrow evening a friend and I are going to a debate over who's the best Doctor. Yay for good weekends!

Sarah Mirai was born today, mom & baby are doing great. Thanks to those who kept us in their prayers - it could not have been an easier birth. Seriously, Mrs. Gorn said the worst pain she felt all day was the automatic blood-pressure cuff squeezing her arm. Unbelievable.

I'd forgotten how tiny they are when they're first born ...

The last time I wrote this I was mistaken but my best friend is getting 3-4 job offers today for jobs that pay more than twice her current pay. She's so happy and excited and she can support her mom and herself and her son better.

We're cleaning out closets today. I'm happy because we're getting rid of stuff (about 4-5 boxes to Goodwill and 6-7 boxes to our friends with a new baby girl). I'm also happy and grateful all over again as we discover how many hand-me-downs we have. We still have clothes for my son through age 12. Over the years we have bought so few clothes for the kids due to the wonderful generosity of our family and some friends.

This week, the little girl I nanny for learned my name, had her first spontaneous use of French with the word "bisse," and started saying "zut" and "zy" after each time I say "zut" and "allons-y". She also did quite well considering that her mom was gone about 10-12 hours a day and (with the exception of one week) they'd been together nearly 24/7 all summer. Mostly, though, I'm just happy about the cuteness of her new words!

Today my wife and I ripped up the carpet in our bedroom. Chiara was very helpful. I mean very helpful. it's not done and there is paint on the floor and we need to decide what to do with it but I am thrilled to have it gone. I also really love doing projects with my wife we work well together.

On the whole, it's been a great (if somewhat weird/unexpected) weekend. Last night was the beginning of my sister's bachelorette weekend, and though I didn't especially want to go (and DEFINITELY didn't want to spend $90 on a hotel room) I'm really glad I did. It was a completely weird night involving altogether too much discussion of sex and male body parts I have no interest in, and neither of our other sisters showed up so it was just me and K and 3 of her friends, two of whom know her inside and out (while I definitely do not, no matter how much I love her) and seemed 100% content to discuss nothing but sex and all of whom were drinking which in theory left me extremely out of place, but it was actually a lot of fun, and today while the other girls were running errands I got some alone time with K which was great.
For weeks I've been counting down to the new episode of Doctor Who which aired tonight, but my plan to watch it *and* both my contingency plans fell through, so I came to my dad's to watch it and I'm extremely glad I did. I got some snuggle time with my stepmom, who talked me into spending the night, and then sat around talking with her and my dad for a couple hours and most of it was really nice; by the end of the night my dad was extremely drunk which wasn't very pleasant, but all in all the day was great.

To top it all off, possibly best of all, I get to see all my sisters and my baby nephew tomorrow.

My wife has been depressed for years. Really on and off since the birth of our first child (nearly 8 years ago). She comes out of it and then back in. She's been seeing a homeopath and I think she has turned a corner.

She is watching what she eats and exercising and meditating every day. She has lost 8 pounds. She put herself on a chore schedule and is doing activities out of the house with the kids most days. This weekend we tore up the carpet in the bedroom and she wants to do more. Yesterday She did 4 loads of laundry that she hung all of them on the line rather than using the dryer. I'm not sure she had ever done 2 before. She folded and put one away! She cleaned the kitchen and cooked fish, potatoes, and broccoli for dinner. It might sound stupid but these things are miraculous. She says she still feels sad a lot but she is doing stuff which is great. And she's been much nicer and more supportive to me. I'm very happy about that.

At the same time, my son is starting to eat more foods. Last night he ate the fish, potatoes, and broccoli without fight. He started drinking kefir again. He ate in a restaurant Saturday night.

All so good!

Debs, that is really great progress. I hope things continue well with your wife. Depression can be a hard thing to manage, for the person and the people around. Popping pills isn't always the answer, sounds like she has found a good alternative, keep hold of that homeopath.

Last Tuesday it was my godfather's birthday and I went for a surprise visit. Made him, his wife and pretty much everyone else happy :) It had been too long since I saw them.
Saturday I got to hang out with my dad, while my mother was away for a conference. Yesterday we watched athletics world championship, rowing, moto3/2/GP and basketball. It was so much fun hanging out with him and I'm going to see him again on Wednesday. YAY!
