Tara Maclay drove down the streets of SunnyDale. She couldn't believe it had been 6 months since she had seen her hometown. 6 months maybe not seem like a long time, but it was when you had never been away from it for more than a week. She drove past the old movie theater where her and her friends had spent so much at. She drove past the high school. The place she had graduated from 6 months ago. She drove past the diner where she could be found every Friday night. Than she came to her street. The street by the big body of water that lead out into the bay. She pulled up to the house where she had lived in from the time she was born till the time she turned 18.
Tara got out of the car and stared at the house for a couple minutes before she walked up to it. She unlocked the front door and walked into the small living room. It was only big enough to fit a sofa, a chair, a TV stand with the TV on it and a dresser. She stood in the room and smiled at the memories. She walked through the room to that small kitchen. The kitchen was bigger than the living room. It was what covered the whole back side of the house. Not that the house was very big at all. People always wonder how four people lived in this house. She looked around the room than went back into the living room.
She looked at the door to her left and walked up to it. She paused than opened the door. She looked at the small room. On one side was the bunk bed that belonged to her 7-year-old twin brother and sister Jayden and Jordin. There was also a door that lead to the closet where all their clothes hung. On the other side of the room was the single bed that belonged to Tara. All her clothes had at one point been in the drawers that were at the bottom of the bed. The door on her side of the room lead to the bathroom. The single bed and bunk beds were seperated by a night stand. It was a wonder the night stand even fit there with how small the room actually was.
She walked over to her bed and looked at the pictures on the wall upbove it. All the pictures were of her friends and family. There was one of Xander and Anya. Two of her best friends. They had been together forever. Two months ago they got engaged. Tara was the best man for Xander. She laughed at this thought. Another was of her and Faith. Faith was like her sister. They grew up together. Another was of Buffy and Faith. For the longest time everyone thought they would wind up married, but that didn't happen. Buffy was now living in New York. She had a boyfriend and they were expecting a baby in 6 months. Faith was back at the school where her and Tara attended. She didn't want to come home for winter break. Said she had things to do there. Tara thought that Faith had someone new in her life, but Faith never told Tara about dating someone unless she knew for sure she would be that person for awhile. More photos of the same friends were spread out along the wall. Some of her mom and her brother and sister and than there was some of her and someone else. She grabbed her favorite picture on the wall and left the room.
When she walked out she ran into someone and they screamed. "Tara," her mom grabbed ahold of her and hugged her.
"Hey mom," Tara smiled hugging her back.
"When did you get here?"
"Just a couple minutes ago."
Teagen Macclay released her hold on her daughter and held the girl away at arms length. "You cut your hair."
"Yeah I did," Tara ran her fingers through her should length hair. "Do you like it?"
"It looks beautiful," Teagen smiled. "We weren't expecting you until tomorrow. I'm off to work and Jordin and Jayden are outside playing until the bus comes."
"I know. Forgot today was Friday and not Saturday," Tara smiled weakly. "Wanted to come early."
"Well I'm glad your here. The bus is running late and I didn't want to leave the kids alone. I would feel horrible, but Miss. Lark is on my case about being late to many times and she is threatening firing me and well I can't lose this job."
"Mom don't feel like a bad mom just cause you have to go to work. I will watched them until the bus comes," Tara smiled.
"You are my angel, did you know that," Teagen kissed her daughter's cheek and ran out the door.
Tara watched her mom's car through the open door until it was gone, than she turned into the house closing the door behind her. She walked through the living room, than the kitchen, and out the back door. Jayden was swinging on the tire swing. Jordin pushing him. Tara smiled at her brother and sister.
"Hey," she said.
"Tara," Jordin smiled than ran up to her sister. She wrapped her arms around her sister's waist. "I missed you."
"I missed you too," Tara smiled down at her.
"Hey I missed you too," Jayden ran up and also wrapped his arms around his sister's waist.
"Well I missed you just as much as I missed Jordin."
"Just as much," Jayden stuck his tongue out at his twin.
"Shut-up," Jordin stuck her tongue at him back.
"Silly as ever," Tara shook her head. Than they heard a beep. "Bus is here."
"Isn't your sister coming home after leaving for 6 months a good excuse to stay home?" Jayden gave her a hopeful smile.
Tara bent down so she was eye level with her brother. "Nice try," she smiled. He rolled his eyes. They all said their byes and Tara watched and they got on the bus.
She sighed than walked across the yard and out onto their little dock. She walked down the lenth of the dock and sat on the edge, dangling her feet over the water. She looked across the big body of water. At the house almost directly across from hers. Alot bigger than hers. Her house was only suppose to be a summer place. Her uncle was a commercial fishermen and he would stay in the little house when he worked. Teagen had lived with her brother while she was going to school. Than she got pregnent by her boyfriend and he left her. She had to get a job and try to fend for herself. Her brother wanted to help her out. So he gave the little house to her and Tara and when he had to work he would crash on the sofa. Than 8 years ago her mom started to date another guy. When she got pregnent again, he also left. Than the twins were born.
Tara sighed again and took the picture she had took from her room out of her pocket. She stared at the picture. At the redhead her arms where around and remember the day it was taken. It was on their first date. The picnic. Tara had eaten some strawberries. The redhead kissed her than giggled and said she could taste the strawberries. After that kisses between them were not just called kisses they were called strawberry kisses. Tara looked back out over the water. She had been sitting in this same spot a year and half ago when the Rosenburgs first moved in. She was sitting in this same spot the first time she saw Willow. Willow Rosenburg she smiled at the name and the memories of the last year and a half came swimming into her mind....
