Thanks for the feedback, Kittens. I hope you like this update. And I do apologize in advance for leaving it where I left it. :kdevil

Chapter 10: Sunnydale PD

As the blonde Slayer and redheaded witch skulked across the graveyard with both eyes peeled, Buffy cleared her throat before attempting to broach a subject she felt mildly nervous about broaching, "So Will...how um, how have you been?"

At Willow's perplexed expression, she tried again, "How have things been, Will?"

"What things?"

"You know Will, the things, the things that have been." Buffy waved her hands emphatically as if trying to make her point manifest in front of them, "The things, Will!"

The witch stared back at her friend with a blank look in her eyes, "Okay first of all, what the frilly heck are you talking about? Second, why are you saying my name like it's a mantra, Buff...Buff...Buff? Third, convoluted ranting is sorta my thing, y’know. And fourth, what the frilly heck are you talking about?"

"Thi--stuff with Tara, you know?" She turned to Willow with an expression that had grown suddenly wistful, "We haven't really had a chance to talk about it since that night at The Bronze...or about anything, really."

Willow began to wring her hands together in a nervous gesture she didn't realize was habitual, "Yeah, I guess that's sorta my fault. I-it's not that I've been trying to avoid you guys! I know I've been absentee-girl lately, and majorly neglectful as a friend but it really wasn't on purpose."

The Slayer only smirked at her friend mischievously, "Well I imagine it'd be hard talking with a blonde hottie attached to your lips all day."

"You know about that?" The words were spoken with a queer blend of pride and dread.

"Everyone knows about it, Willow. We know about it in the movie theatre, we know about it under the bleachers during lunch, we know about it at the park, at the mall, in the laundry room--"

"All right, I get it!"

"Just sayin'...it's like your hormones exploded all over the hellmouth." The ability to tease Willow mercilessly was the one bad habit she was glad she'd adopted from Faith.

"Does all the ribbing mean I'm forgiven?" She threw in a pout for emphasis.

Buffy drew her lips together as if in thought, “Under the condition that you tell me, honestly, how you’ve been after, you know…everything.”

The redhead gave it a moment’s worth of honest thought, “Well, sometimes I feel like I ought to be guilty or something, out of respect for Oz and our relationship. But then Tara looks at me and…how can I not be happy?”

“That may be the absolute corniest thing I’ve ever heard in my life, Willow.” And though it was said in her usual deadpan, sarcastic way, the Slayer’s smile betrayed the happiness she felt for her friend.

“I’d get used to the corny if I were you,” Willow said wryly. “So, conversely, how are things with you and Angel?” There was an awkward silence after the words were spoken that Willow had not been anticipating. “Buff?”

“It’s complicated.”

She frowned, “Why is it complicated?”

“It’s complicated…because of Faith.”

--

In the opposite direction of the two best friends, Tara, Xander and Faith stalked the graveyard half in search of the vamp that got away and half engaged in teenage gossip.

“So what’s Buffy mad with you about? Did she discover your personality?” Xander spoke through his patented boyish grin.

Faith grumbled with gritted teeth so her words were almost indistinguishable, “Everybody’s a fucking comedian in this town.”

“You don’t have to tell us if you don’t want to, Faith,” The blonde spoke up with her most sympathetic look, “If it’s too, you know, intimate and special for us to know about it then…”

All right, Blondie, for Christ’s sake…you know, you hide your deviousness well, witchy girl,” She chided her, “Anyway, Buff is all mad because I took her out for a good time, and it got a little too wild I guess. I almost staked some guy I thought was vampy, and then he ran off all scared. I mean nothing happened, you know, but it could’ve easily gone the other way. Then after that whole crazy affair, when we were walking home, I sorta kissed her. Because of all the adrenaline, you know?”

There was a quiet over the group suddenly when all you could hear was the padding of sneakers on the graveyard soil. Xander couldn’t stand it for very long, “Well I can’t imagine why anyone would be upset about all that.”

“Whatever, Xander, it’s not like I see Cordelia around here anywhere. Or even at all lately. You two back in the closet?”

“Who’s Cordelia?” Tara asked.

“Xand-man’s girlfriend, incredibly.”

Ex-girlfriend, incredibly,” He corrected quietly.

“I’m sorry Xander…” Tara put a comforting hand on his shoulder.

“Everyone gets dumped sometime,” Faith told him, “And you…well, you should try to get used to it.”

“Hey!” Xander pouted, “Why does everyone think she dumped me? I dumped her.”

Tara and Faith let the information seep in speechlessly before Faith broke in, “Really?”

Tara elbowed the Slayer gently, “Faith.”

“Well, you shoulda seen her, T,” The Slayer enthused, “She was way outta Xand’s league.”

“Well there’s more to falling in love than just a person’s looks,” Tara spoke wisely.

Faith looked at her suspiciously, “Like what?”

“Like…well like all her cute little idiosyncrasies; the quirky way she keeps everything color-coordinated and the adorable little frown she gets when she’s reading or how her eyes light up when she sees you, and the way she likes to kiss and how she always…”

Tara’s voice drifted into the air as Faith’s eyes rolled, “Well, we lost her.”

“See that’s what was missing between Cordy and me…I never got that way about her. I’d hear Will talk about Tara and it was like, I just couldn’t really relate to any of it. You know?”

Faith gave a slight nod, “Meaningless boinking isn’t for everyone.”

“Just professionals like you?” Xander asked.

“Hey now, I was being sympathetic.”

“Well sorry if I couldn’t tell.”

Tara, now free from her Willow-induced daydreaming spoke up before a serious argument could ensue, “She tries her hardest, and that’s all we can ask of her.”

Somehow Tara’s soft voice, even when she was making a joke, had a soothing effect on the two sarcastic hotheads she now called friends.

“So is Cordelia at least doing okay?” Faith twirled her stake as she spoke, now calmly.

“I’m not sure,” Xander frowned as he thought back to the last few days, “She’s been giving me the cold shoulder but all her old friends have been doing the same to her. She’s been talking to some new girl a lot, though. Some fast-talking, tactless man-hater.”

Tara looked at Faith, “Sounds a little like you. Except you hate everyone.”

--

“What do you mean Faith?” Willow gaped, half-understanding the implications, “Faith likes Angel?”

Buffy shook her head.

Willow’s face looked distinctly like a frozen computer screen that was stuck midway through computing some very elaborate code, “Faith...likes…you.”

Buffy nodded.

“And you…like Faith?”

Before Buffy could respond, their old demonic friend leaped from the shadows in a desperate attempt at a surprise attack. Buffy had been keeping one eye on him for minutes now and staked him as he was still in mid-air.

Without missing a beat, without even the slightest hint of being fazed by the violent display, Willow continued, “Oh, Buff this is so cool! Now we can be gay together!” At the Slayer’s wide-eyed look, Willow waved her hands left and right rapidly, as if trying to dispel the thought, “Not you and I together, but separately. Gay, separately, together.”

Buffy shook her head, “Will, it’s really not like that.”

Before the redhead could say a word she was interrupted by two successive beeps that sounded singularly authoritative. The two girls turned to see a police car parked parallel to the cemetery. Buffy quirked a brow, “Sunnydale has a police force? Well, that’s news.”

Two men in blue emerged from the vehicle and walked purposefully toward the girls. They could only stare in shock as the events unfolded, “Willow Rosenberg?” One of them spoke, clearly looking at the redhead.

Willow could only nod dumbly, as if she’d never seen a policeman in her life.

“You are under arrest, anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law.”

“Excu--” Before she could finish she felt herself pinioned by the officer and cuffs were placed around her small, pale wrists. “Sir, I think you’re making a mistake here. I’m a straight A student! I look both ways before crossing the street! I’ve never run with scissors! I’m Willow Rosenberg, damnit!”

As her friend was dragged away Buffy could only gape silently, an officer looked into her eyes with a small, bright flashlight, “Ma’am are you intoxicated?”

“What!?”

--

The scream could dimly be heard by the three oblivious Scoobies who were still in search of the straggler vampire.

“What was that?” Xander asked.

“It sounded like a wild animal,” Tara spoke, frowning.

“That was being forcibly put to sleep.” Faith added, with her usual charming grin. “Look guys if we don’t find this vamp soon, let’s just head back to home base. I bet Red and B are already there and the last thing I need is B gloating about how quickly she finished the job and all, and how much more competent she is than me ‘cause she’s been at it a few more years than I have.”

“Quitters.” A disembodied, lilting voice spoke from the shadows. They turned to see Willow clad in black, holding the vamp they’d been looking for by the wrists. “Want him?”

“Will you found him!” Faith spoke, surprised, “Well stake him for Christ’s sake.” She chucked her stake at Willow who caught it easily.

The redhead ran the stake’s pointy tip across the vampire’s chest, almost as if teasing him before she impaled him viciously. “Happy now?” She asked as the ashes circled around her before drifting into the dirt.

Tara frowned now that she had a full view of her girlfriend. The girl was clad, toe to exposed cleavage in black leather. She was wearing blood red lipstick. She had a feral grin and a devious glint in her eye as she looked Tara up and down, like she were prey. “Baby? Why are you all…leathery?”

“Baby?” The vampire asked with a smile, “Interesting.”

Loved the story so far. Looking forward to how Willow is going to react to Vamp Willow. Hopefully Tara will be able to tell the difference before anything gets to far between her and Vamp Willow. I always thought Buffy and Faith would be a cute couple.
Looking forward to reading more.

It goes slow but it keeps going.

~~

Chapter 11: Show Me

“I never even sat too close to the TV! I’ve won seven spelling bees! I’ve only had one friend for most of my life and he was a geek!” Willow’s cheeks were starting to redden as her tirade went on in the dank little cell they’d chucked her in.

“Miss Rosenberg, please.” It was poor Officer Jared’s first day on the force. “Now, I told ya. These ain’t no petty charges, you’re wanted for assault and battery, possibly murder. Can’t nobody find those bodies you were witnessed, er, dismemberin’ so it’s safe to say you’re here for a while.”

“But I didn’t do it!” Willow’s voice came out quaking, whether with woe or frustration she wasn’t sure.

“Well I got five witnesses says you did, so shut yer yap already!”

The girl’s small frame slid down the grey-brown cell wall and hunched into itself, I never thought anywhere could feel more lonely than home.

~~

“Holy shit, Red…nice outfit. You been digging around in David Bowie’s closet for scraps?” Faith’s face slanted to the right and left as she looked the dark-clad redhead over.

Willow’s smirk was wry and distinctly condescending, “It’s my new look. I modeled it after you.”

Turning to Xander, Faith whispered, “Is that what I look like?”

The boy shrugged, “When you’re feeling conservative.”

Tara, for her part, had only crossed her arms around her chest. A furrow had creased the fine skin between her brow, and a pout had emerged. “Baby, why are you dressed like that, really? N-not that it’s not awesome.”

As her attention was drawn back to Tara, the redhead bit her blood red lip and said dismissively, “It’s a…surprise, for you. D’ya like it?”

Tara’s wide-eyed expression was her only reply.

The Slayer laughed heartily, “Too much information there, Red…although the imagery is appreciated.”

“What?” Xander asked with a frown, his countenance frozen as if someone had hit his ‘pause’ button for a second before his wide brown eyes suddenly illuminated in understanding, “Oh…oh.”

“Before you two crazy kids go off frolicking to your sexual misadventures, can you tell us where B went off to?” Faith looked around as if Buffy’s confident figure might be strutting out of the foliage any minute.

Willow’s eyes rolled like a child who’d just been handed a list of chores, “She went off to stake more things…and she said you two should wait.”

“At the rendezvous point?” Xander asked.

Willow snorted dryly, “Precisely.”

Faith nodded slowly, “Yeah, you should probably walk Tara home. This is a lot for a newbie.” Then her serious frown broke into that easy saucy grin that was her trademark, “You just take her home and give her exactly what she needs.”

The blonde witch shot the Slayer a very wary look before taking Willow’s hand.

~~

Buffy shot between rabid pacing and standing still with her head shaking back and forth, of all the ridiculous things that’ve happened to us…cops!

“It doesn’t matter how you shake it, B, ain’t nothing happening in there.” Faith’s brow cocked at Buffy’s relieved expression, “Why are you actually happy to see me?”

“Willow’s in prison!” It was all the blonde Slayer could think to say. She received two very confused looks.

“Buffy say what now?” Xander spoke.

“Willow. In. Prison.” She punctuated her words with amateur pantomime.

“Finally, that criminal mastermind is paying her debt to society.” Buffy’s blazing glare told Faith that none of this was a joke, “We just saw Willow,” she turned to Xander, “Remember? Kinky outfit, snide commentary.”

Xander nodded, “True…the only crimes she was committing were definitely fashion related,” he paused as if in deep thought, “That sounded less flaming gay in my head.”

“Okay, you guys really aren’t getting it,” Buffy said, and proceeded to speak slowly, as if to children, “Our dear friend Willow is in prison and…where’s Tara?”

“With Willow,” Faith spoke, “Possibly in handcuffs.”

Buffy shook her head, “That makes no sense. I just saw them take her away.”

“And we just saw her take Tara away,” Xander told her.

“Something weird’s going on,” Buffy murmured, before all three looked back and forth to each other, “Willy,” they spoke in unison.

“Wait, but what about Tara?” Xander grabbed Buffy’s shoulder before she could start out, “We can’t just leave her with some freaky-looking Willow double.”

“Yeah,” Faith added, “And we just can’t leave Willow 1 in the hole either.”

Buffy nodded like a seasoned commander, “We’ll split up. Xander find Tara and Willow 2, make sure nothing’s happened to Tara. I’ll find Willy. Faith, you break out Willow 1. We’ll meet up at The Bronze.”

All three nodded and went off running in different directions.

~~

“What’cha doin’?” The soft, childlike voice asked Tara.

The blonde looked down at the milky hand she held in both of hers, “Trying to keep you warm. You’re ice cold, baby.”

“That’s ‘cause you’re not close enough,” Willow pulled her in by her shoulder, “Better now.”

“Mmn,” Tara agreed with her, before frowning slightly, “Baby, where are you taking me?”

Willow’s confident gait halted, “The Bronze?”

Tara shook her head, “I’m tired. Home?”

“Home sounds…perfect,” her last word was nearly a purr. “Lead the way, lover.”

~~

Buffy made her quick, methodical way through the dark doors of Willy’s seedy establishment, and with as much entitlement she leapt behind the bar to grab the mousy bartender by the collar, “I need to talk with you.”

“I didn’t recall you scheduling an appointment,” he squeaked out.

Buffy gave him a deliberate shake, before pinning him to the wall, hard. “Something new happened. Something weird.”

Willy spoke between pained gasps, “Well, welcome to the Hellmouth.”

“I’m serious Willy…what do you know?”

“What do you got?”

“Your life in my hands and very little patience.”

“Yeah, no sense of humor, neither,” the man coughed out, before being pressed so close to the wall he became one with the grime and wood, “All right, all right, Christ sakes, there’s this new demon come through. A vengeance demon. But she lost her magic bracelet or ah, her necklace or somethin’ while trying to exact some well, y’know vengeance on some poor sucker. Mixing with alternate universes type of shit. Weird stuff always happens when you fuck around with universes.”

Buffy’s hazel eyes only grew murkier with questions, “What do you know about there being some new Willow walking around. Walking around and killing things in the middle of the street?”

Willy’s beady little eyes expanded to their full tiny capacity, “Willow? Ha…she that Wicked Red that everybody’s shakin’ in their boots about? Jeez-us Christ.”

“Wicked Red?”

“A vamp,” Willy told her, “Red hair, leather…not no fledge neither. She turned the Bronze into a free for all. She’s been rounding up vamps left and right. I ain’t gonna have no customers left.”

Buffy looked around, “Oh my God.” There were maybe a few demons lolling about, but no vampires.

~~

Xander was halfway to nowhere before he realized he’d no clue where Tara lived. Damnit Xander! Where’s Willow been spending all her time the last few weeks? Think, think, think. But he came up blank.

He sighed deeply and rested his back on the redbrick wall of some store or other. His dark head tilted in thought, What now?

As if through some sort of divine intervention a streetlight shone directly above a payphone, with a phonebook dangling from it, attached by a chain. That works!

He rushed to it, flipping maniacally through its pages, Maclay, Maclay, Maclay. The name wasn’t there, though he checked repeatedly, “Fuck!” His frustrated shriek caught the attention of a passerby and her small son, whose ears she covered as she sped past. “S-sorry,” he muttered, “It’s life and death.”

“You all right there, son?” A laughing voice cracked through the cool night to Xander’s ears.

“Huh?” The young boy turned to see a tall, nearly familiar figure clad in a leather jacket, a clean looking button up and jeans, “Yeah, I uh…I can’t seem to find my friend in the phonebook.”

“Damn shame, especially since it’s life and death an’ all,” the man cocked his brow, “Tell you what, son. I’m on my way to work. How’s about I give ya a ride and then you can see if maybe we can find your friend through the online directory…that damn book’s old as all hell. Deal?”

Xander sighed, he really had no choice but to lend trust to a stranger, “Deal.”

~~

“Well, well, well, Red,” Faith stalked back and forth in front of the cell, “When I’d pictured this here little scenario, I never imagined I’d be the one outside the bars.”

Willow stared back at her, furiously, “Damnit Faith! Get me out of here,” she whispered harshly.

“I’m workin’ on it,” the Slayer whispered back.

“Now sugar, I told ya…there ain’t no bail for your friend there,” the guard told Faith, “I’m in enough shit just letting you two talk.”

The Slayer turned and stalked alluringly toward Officer Jared, “Aw, J…you sure there’s nothing I could do or say that might persuade you…”

Officer Jared cleared his throat, and by the blush on his cheeks you could tell he was considering it, “Ah hmm…well uh.”

Willow’s face twisted in disgust, “Why me God?”

Finally, Jared’s throat-clearing came to a halt, “Ah shit, it’s the chief.”

The girls turned to stare out the window as two men approached on a loud, bright motorcycle.

Willow’s brow furrowed, “Is that…Xander?”

Faith chuckled disbelievingly, “Why is he on the back of some dude’s motorcycle?”

Willow turned to her angrily, “You told me he went to save Tara.”

Faith shrugged, “I guess this is his version of it.”

As the two men entered, Xander halted, wide-eyed at the sight of his two friends.

“What are you doing on a man date when you should be out looking for Tara?” Willow was gripping the bars now, and her fingers were glowing unbeknownst to her with some purple-black light.

“Don’t growl at me!” The boy shrieked, “I didn’t know Tara’s address and it wasn’t on the phonebook, and I’m not just accepting joy ride’s from tall, handsome gentlemen for the heck of it and…Christ, I’m having an exceptionally gay night, but Will I swear…”

“What do ya’ll mean Tara?” The tall man spoke evenly, “Tara Maclay?”

Faith peered at him through suspicious eyes, “You know her?”

“She’s my baby-niece, yeah.” The man said, “Don’t tell me she’s caught on with a bunch of delinquents.”

“Sir…Leo, right?” Willow began nervously, pleadingly, “My name is Willow Danielle Rosenberg, I’m your niece’s girlfriend; you invited me over for dinner some night?”

Officer Jared broke in, “And you’re also wanted for murder.”

“Shut up you!” Willow’s hiss had the young rookie practically pissing his navy blue pants, “Look, Leo, Tara’s in danger all right? She’s in danger, and yeah, it’s probably my fault, but for the love of God, let me at least save her. And then you can say anything you want about me. You can lock me up forever. Just please, let me out of here…not for me, but for Tara all right?”

Leo sighed deep and thought carefully, the teary-eyed, porcelain-faced girl definitely didn’t have the demeanor of a cold-hearted murderer. He only hoped his gut would pull through for him as it always had before, “You’ll take me to Tara. But one half-hasty move and you’re target practice, Rosenberg,” he turned to Jared, “What’re you waiting for?”

~~

“Are you sure you’re not hungry baby?” Tara was sifting through her kitchen cabinets for Willow’s favorites, “You’re usually starving right about now.”

“Uhn uh,” the redhead murmured, as she lay strewn comfortably on the couch, “C’mere.”

Tara giggled, and practically skipped over before straddling Willow’s leathery lap, “I still can’t believe you’re wearing this…is this because of that whole Cat Woman debate ‘cause…mmn, babe.” She was interrupted by smooth lips. Lips she knew, but that seemed different somehow. She could almost place it.

If it weren’t for the fact that she couldn’t think. If it weren’t for the flurry of kisses that followed. Hard kisses. Kisses all around her neck, her tender collarbone, her mouth. Willow sucked in her bottom lip, bit it so lightly it was barely felt. And still those sharp teeth drew a drop of blood or two.

At the hot, salty taste of crimson Willow’s kisses became sweltering, imperious. Tara felt like a summer’s day and still Willow’s body was so cool beneath hers. Even the redhead’s tongue, which now ran a trail across the roof of Tara’s mouth, was icy.

The arms that wrapped around her back, that took possession of her ass and thighs, felt as cool and hard as a marble statue in an abandoned museum. Yet they incited such a fire in her.

These small oddities Tara might have found questionable if it weren’t for the confusion of heady lust and love. She looked up and Willow’s eyes had become nearly black with predatory longing. Those green-black swirls fascinated Tara. Her whole body was capsized with a feeling that seemed both ancient and new. A feeling that strove for escape from her chest, “W-Willow,” the name was said in the loveliest of breathless sighs, “Willow, I love you.”

The redhead’s expression was a queer blend of angelic disbelief and devilish content, “Show me.”

aww :( I'm sad Tara said it to Vamp!Willow instead of real Willow! The kissing was hot though - no matter who she was kissing!

I'm glad they let Willow out of jail - Hope they get there in time to keep Tara from sleeping with Vamp!Willow!

This update was great! Can't wait to see what else you've got in store!

And the plot thickens...

Tara's uncle is the police chief, eh? Maybe the SunnyD cops will finally catch a clue. Especially if he witnesses Tara being saved in the nick of time from VampWillow
