You don't have to be the odd one out because I too enjoyed season six. I personally liked how screwed up Buffy was getting I think it was a nice change from the unrealistic view that she would always make the right choice. Plus season six saw OMWF and Tara become a bigger character albeit not much but any Tara is good.
As much as I hate Tara's death, Season 6 is my favorite too. I think it angers me more that Tara wasn't bought back in Season 7 than her being killed (and it did take me sometime before I finally realized this... um...). And to be honest, if I do have a say on the script, I'll probably kill Tara in season 6 too . I love her, don't get me wrong, but it is the only thing that will provoke Willow in such way. I don't think it will have the same effect if it's Buffy or Xander who gets killed.
Interestingly enough, here we are coming up on 5 years later, people are still talking about how stupid killing Taea was.
Because we all love Tara?
Seriously though, i think Tara's death is like something that you hate most in your life that you can never change. No matter how many years it'll still always in your mind, lurking... (sounds a bit scary... um...
)
Back to the topic: is Tara a bigger (or better) icon than Buffy? Well, I don't even know there's an icon anywhere in the show... but out of all other characters (except Buffy and Tara) I'll have to say Joyce (think how much she has sacrificed for Buffy, and at the same time real enough to be believed as a real person instead of just a character).
If I have to choose between Tara and Buffy? definitely Tara. Though I think Tara's kind of thing that is too good to be true in real life...
or maybe i'm just too depressed to see the good in human....
