Title: The Awesome Power

Author: SylverMaki

Disclaimer: None of these characters are mine. I’m just mangling their form beyond recognition because I love them so. Ramsy I made up and Kiela and maybe there will be some more but other than don’t hate me for the little borrow.

Summary: Willow is a resurrection of the one who is meant to hold this amazing power. The power was bound now it has come back with maybe some dire consequences. Of course the story will eventually be about Willow and Tara.

Note: If you don’t like the story, oh well :happy . If you do great. I didn’t get it beta’d because I just couldn’t bring myself to. So don’t read if you can’t understand it.

Rating: Pretty calm right now. I’ll get back to you if it gets spicy :sh .

Part One: He Felt It Before

"This sensation is unmistakable, the power it is overwhelming. Do you feel it?" Ramsy questioned to is best and most loyal subject, Kiela.

"No sire, I can not feel it. The beacon must be too faint for my weak sensors to comprehend," Kiela replied in her rightful subordinate position.

Ramsy had been alive for so many years now that he had become a constant in every society ever to be known throughout history. Some mention of a Ramsy whether it be mythical or literal was apart of the human design. He is an immortal being, a magickal immortal being that can sense the untapped powers of other entities throughout the world. No matter where he was in the globe he could sense greater than normal ability of any child. Yes, a human child.

"I've never felt anything as powerful as this. Keila, it is...restricting." His breath caught as he finished his statement.

"Restricting sire?" Kiela was unsure of what he meant.

"Yes, when I let the power in, my chest is restricted, the power surrounds my heart and presses down, it is overbearing. But...I've felt it before meaning it could be a resurrection," Ramsy explained. He was a slow talker because he always wanted to make sure his point got across.

"No, resurrections don't exist, do they sire?" she said unbelieving.

"Of course they exist! I've seen people over and over again throughout my lifetime--different body, same personality, same aura."

"Really, so when I die, I'll live again?" Kiela asked in a hopeful tone.

"It depends on whether your soul is strong enough to carry over, not everyone has the will to live again and those are the people that move on to the 'next world'."

"Okay so this person you are feeling they have been resurrected from when, from whom?"

"Four thousand years ago, I've felt this power and it was so powerful that the people of the time bound it in a safe location never to be used again. But somehow the soul entrusted with such power has been resurrected and has no trouble calling that power back. She is just a little child and therefore doesn't know she has called the said power."

Ramsy went on to tell the story of a powerful female from four thousand years prior to the 1980s. Her graduation from witch to sorceress had been too easy because the power she possessed was so great, so dense that it yearned to be complete. They say that a witch grows gradually and slowly for purposes of control and respect. But sometimes the power just won’t allow it. This female tried to destroy the world and so all the magickal users present at that time had to come together and bind that power, which in turn killed the sorceress. She was never to be resurrected; they were supposed to have bound her soul for the eternities.

They forgot one thing—to bind the mate to her soul. Her soul mate called to her through every generation and that call broke down barriers until finally these eons later, the sorceress broke free not only for her love but for her power ripped from her so violently.

But everyone knows when one is resurrected the past life is but a feeling left over. One can’t remember who they were unless they possess the second sight. Fortunately for Ramsy, Willow had no such sight but she was now the holder of the one great power.

"Where is she? How old is she now that she has called the power back?"

"She is in Sunnydale, California. She is at this moment a 3 year old little girl, whose powers were called because her well-being was in jeopardy. I must do something because she could destroy the world if she wanted once she figures out how to come into her full power. She could also purge the world of all evil and darkness. Frankly, I don't want her to do either, and so she requires guidance."

"When will you go to her?" Kiela was a little apprehensive as not wanting to be left alone.

Ramsy lived in a remote African village just outside South Africa. He has been alive since the dawn of human evolution and he has never been able to leave his home continent.

Some that have seen him says he looks otherworldly but also handsome and so over the generations he has had many followers mostly because they see him as an extremely powerful being and man. He was almost killed by the past holder of the horrific power he spoke about and so he doesn't wish it to happen. Because the best part of being immortal is being the best because personal knowledge outweighs every other human alive. He wanted to stay immortal and would go to any lengths not to be killed by the great power.

He was not an evil creature but just one of the old ones that had found a way to become immortal which is an entirely different story from this. He didn't cause trouble or conquer civilizations (he was no Hitler) but he had been advisors to many kings and conquerors. At one point he was a king also. Yet, the great power wanted him to suffer because he was an immortal and it did not have the privilege of such a long life. It was a bitter power that only could be tamed by the soul that it was inhabited by.

One thing Ramsy did know was the he could control that soul if he got to it in the early phases of its new life. Well not control but more like guide it to control the power in a less harmful way towards him and that is what he needed to do. Even though the child was merely three years old, now was the time to infuse what her power was for.

"Now is the time Keila, the power is restricting my heart already and I feel it, I need to go and stop it. You and I must go there and integrate ourselves in her life; her parents are itching to go back to work." He explained.

"So it should be easy then?" Ramsy nodded and Kiela smiled relieved that she wouldn’t be left. He took her by the hands and teleported to Sunnydale. They showed up in the alley next door to the butcher's shop. Ramsy used his ability to sense the power and find Willow's location.

Once they found her home, Ramsy magickally created a resume and a good work record. They knocked on the door and were greeted within two minutes by a Mr. Ira Rosenberg, who looked ragged and tired.

"Hello sir by the looks of things you look like you could use a little help in the child care department. I'm a trained caregiver and this is my assistant Kiela, a training nanny. I can just tell you are yearning to go back to your exciting career and so I am willing to start today to nurture your child into the best adulthood possible. What do you say?" The last question had an undertone of a magickal spell, which Ramsy used to instantly convince Mr. Rosenberg that his offer was legitimate and worth serious consideration once he discussed it with his wife, Sheila.

"That actually sounds amazing. I've been without sleep for some time and would seriously consider hiring you as a caregiver for my bright young girl Willow. Let me talk it over with my wife, oh please...please come in, you are very welcome here."

Ira offered them a seat while he searched out his wife upstairs. She was in the room with Willow trying to get her to dress herself in matching attire.

"Come now Willow, these clothes are what match, polka dots and stripes just won't do. How will you become a successful lawyer with mismatched clothes?" Sheila sighed deeply from the effort of trying to dress her daughter.

Now at this age, Willow was a very capable speaker, she just never liked the degrading tone of her parents and stuck to gooing noises to throw them off. Ira watched the interaction between his family before he interrupted to discuss hiring a nanny for Willow.

"Sheila, I've found the most capable caregiver for our dear Willow, which I'd like for you to come down and assess. We need to get back to work, she can't be the center of our lives it is entirely unhealthy." Sheila agreed and came downstairs with Willow in hand to check out these so called great caregivers. Ramsy had created an air of warmth and trust around himself and Kiela. Sheila felt it upon entering the room. She instantly agreed that they could care for Willow and that Ira and she could finally get back to their much desired career path.
When first left alone with Willow, she instantly mistrusted them because of the great power within her. But also at this point she didn't have access to any of that power so it was just a feeling. Ramsy took this opportunity to somewhat bind the power so that it wouldn't give Willow the feeling of mistrust toward him.

"Hello Willow, I'm Ramsy, I'm to be your mentor and Kiela will be your nanny. Is that okay?"

Willow looked at both of them and nodded. She had great understanding at that age and so she didn't need to speak to make herself perfectly understood.

Six years passed by quicker than expected. Aside from learning so much Willow had such loving company in Kiela and Ramsy. Also Xander spent a great deal of time with them as well and learned to be open to his own untapped magick.

Over the six years that Ramsy stayed with Willow he taught her how to open up to her power and how to control it. He'd taught her control more than anything else and since Willow had gotten to know him and grew to trust him when he unbound her powers she simply ignored the feeling that Ramsy was to be harmed or not trusted.

He taught her how to do simple spells and gave her books to help her grow into more complex spells. He told her stories of slayers and watchers and the men that created the slayer and how her power rivaled there’s almost one hundred thousand times over. He told her she could potentially have unlimited power and so it was up to her to continue to grow over the years and to use the power she had for good but not to send the balance between good and evil into much turmoil.

He taught her to use dark magick because he believed it was most powerful, but he also taught her to use white magick so she had her own balance. With the dark powers she learned to control, she also learned to control the physical change that was usually associated with dark magick use. The first few spells caused her eyes and hair to change to black but after a while that effect no longer took place. In addition she no longer had nose bleeds. In those six years she surpassed physical signs of magick use and learned to suppress that signal she let out.

Willow grew attached to both Ramsy and Kiela and but they decided they had taught Willow all they could and the rest she'd have to teach herself—they said goodbye. Xander was present for the departure of the two people that he'd also grown very attached to as he had spent a great deal of time at Willow's house to get away from abusive, drunken parents.

"I can't believe you’re just gonna leave Willow like that...and me!" Xander exclaimed hurt that pretty much the only parents he had ever liked—although they were neither Willow's or his parents—were leaving.

"It's ok Xander, I'll take good care of you and I'll teach you to grow into your own magick. We'll always be together I'll never leave you." Willow assured Xander.

"I know Will, you wouldn't leave me. But what about Ramsy, what about Kiela. They've watched out for us and taught us great things."

"Xander, we'll always be around, alive and well, we will never forget you or Willow but it is now time to get back to what we were doing beforehand. We'll come back some day for a visit, probably not soon but we will be back here, do not worry." Ramsy finally spoke.

"It is time for them to go, they know it and I know it. I'm sorry Xander but they have to go." Willow wanted to comfort Xander above all, even though sadness was filled in her own heart.

"Yea, I know." Xander finally defeated lowered his head and nodded slowly. Willow went up to Ramsy and hugged him and did the same with Kiela, she smiled and pushed Xander forward for his hugs. Xander reluctantly moved forward.

"I'll miss you too Xander, don't worry Willow and you can take care of each other and we'll see you again someday. Take care okay." Kiela spoke directly to Xander.

Ramsy and Kiela joined hands and were instantly out of the presence of Willow and the dark-haired boy with sad eyes. Over the years the only people the two children ever really saw were Ramsy and Kiela and now they had gone. They didn't bother to tell Willow's parents they were leaving, they just took off. Therefore the fiery young girl would be alone for sometime with the exception of Xander. Now at the age of nine, they were considerably mature.

Besides the magick, Ramsy taught Willow all about computers because he knew everything about them from start to finish. He taught her to hack and he'd also become somewhat of a father to Xander. Playing sports with him and so forth. But what he most importantly taught Xander and Willow was physical self-defense. Xander could take down a three hundred pound person with no trouble and Willow had been limited at 250 lbs. since she had the magick.

They knew about the Hellmouth, about the dangers that roamed at night. They were more than capable of fighting a good fight and decided perhaps it was their duty since they had come upon such great mentors. Two years later they met Jesse, a skinny and tall boy who was their same age. One night they save his life and he became bound to them. They taught him everything they knew and helped him to tap into his magick, which like Xander wasn’t very impressive.

"You know what I think Xander?" Willow spouted about three days after meeting Jesse.

"No what's that?" Xander looked on interested. Jesse also perked up a bit.

"We should create this group that fights monsters and stuff, so we can save lives and be super cool! I mean we wouldn't really be in any danger because we can take care of ourselves, you physically and me magickally and well Jesse will get there. What do you think? Let’s start a cool monster fighting club!"

"That sounds great Will, we can't just let people fall over and die, we can't…and Ramsy taught us about all the demons and vampires and how to protect ourselves. Because of him I'm not afraid of my father anymore. We're free to do what we want. You're parents are never around and we could set up headquarters in your room and maybe find new members." Xander was equally excited as both Jesse and Willow.

"Sounds awesome. I don’t know much yet and you guys saved my life, I wanna know what that feels like. We should definitely do it." That is exactly what they did.

Four more years went by. Xander had reached his limit in magickal ability. But was a more than capable fighter. He could perform simple locator spells but not much beyond that. Since he had learned as a child to defend himself, he never felt the need to become overly muscular. He didn’t have an ounce of fat on his body and plenty lean muscle mass from his daily workouts.

Jesse had learned well all their fighting techniques and one complex fire spell that he’d started to perfect and use against vampires and pretty much any demon they faced.

Willow grew more powerful by the day. She was practically on the verge of teleportation. She had yet to attempt it though. Most importantly she had balance.

Now they were three. In there fifteenth year on the earth, they finally were graced with the presence of a slayer. How they came to know well that is an interesting story.

Part Two, Section 1: The Slayer

thoughts italicized

“Did you see the new girl today?” Jesse opened conversation as they walked into Sunnydale High School not so eager to start another week of boring classes.

“That’s right, I saw her. Pretty much a hottie.” Xander refrained from telling Jesse about his little mishap he had while starring her down.

“I heard someone was transferring…” Willow started trying to cover for the embarrassment Xander was feeling.

“So tell!” Xander looked over to Jesse waiting for the details keeping the topic in the right direction.

“Tell what?” Jesse said confused.

“What's the sitch, what do ya know about her?” irritating Jesse a little with his tone of voice.

“New girl!” replied the taller boy like it was obvious he got out everything he meant to say.

Xander countered, “Well, you're certainly a font of nothing!”

Willow couldn’t help but think to herself, what idiots boys could be when it came to girls. As they continued down the hall and passed the library, she felt a faint sense of power coming from inside. Everyone had some power but she could only feel that power if they had used it at some point or another in their lifetime.

“Hey guys, I’ll catch you later, I’m getting this feeling I have to check out.”

“K, Will.” They both said in unison while looking over the perplexed look on Willow’s face. Having grown to know her as one who wouldn’t ask for help Xander took it upon himself,

“You want us to come with?”

“No I can handle it, its nothing. I’ll tell you guys what I find later.” They nodded and walked off toward their first classes.

The three had long known that the library was sitting on top of the Hellmouth. As soon as they started high school two years ago, Willow felt the convergence of evil seeping from there. Also the fact that librarians tend to disappear. So when she passed and felt a faint power that wasn’t necessarily evil, she needed to investigate.

Who in there right mind would come to work as librarian after all the stories?

It was Monday, so she hadn’t seen the library since before the weekend. Last week the librarian was found dead, a mysterious loss of blood. Not only was it odd that they got a new librarian so quickly but also that she could feel his power from outside of the room. Usually she restricted herself to scanning the room she was in. His power must have called out to her.

She walked into the library and looked around. She found an increase in the selection with some very interesting books.

“Hello, can I help you?” Mr. Rupert Giles, the new librarian came up behind her with a start but didn’t startle her.

“Yea, I’m looking for…” He didn’t even let her finish the sentence.

“I know what your after.” He said overly excited. She just looked at him thrown by his behavior. He pulls out a large book with the word “VAMPYR” on the cover and slammed it hard against the counter.

Willow reading the cover at a glance, became very excited,

“So you know about vampires too. I didn’t think there were too many in Sunnydale who did…but you’re new so maybe you came here to help fight the vampires. It is good to know that a grown up knows something about them, cause I pretty much thought they were all clueless, it isn’t that hard to find one. Just walk around at night and they come after you like they are the best creations in the world. But they can’t think their Gods gift ‘cause they are totally against that, you know with the whole cross thing…”

“Please stop.” Giles removed his glasses and pulled out a handkerchief.

“Sorry, sometimes I go on. Yea but just do what you did...stop me before I talk all day.” Willow nodded and watched him finish cleaning his glasses raising an eyebrow.

“I’m Mr. Giles and you must be Buffy Summers?” Willow frowned wondering why he’d assume she was this person.

“No, I’m not Buffy Summers, I’m Willow Rosenberg.” Giles also frowned.

“They told me you’d be Buffy Summers, but you’re the slayer?” Giles asked completely unsure of his information now.

“Oh no, I know about slayers but I’m not the slayer. I’ve yet to meet one but from what you’re saying she’s here now. This is going to be totally awesome. We have this group where we fight vampires and having a slayer wouldn’t really make it easier…” Willow had a quick thought about how they didn’t really need a slayer here, “…because it isn’t that hard. But hey the more the merrier right...” Giles put up his hand to stop her.

“Let me understand what you are saying. You aren’t the slayer, but you know about slayers. You are part of a group that fights the evil here and you think you can fight vampires, why? It is entirely too dangerous for a normal human.”

Willow nodded at this as she laid down the law,

“I don’t think, I know.” She starred Giles down and he grew a bit uneasy. “We’ve been fighting vampires about four years now. From what I can tell, you are the watcher right? Well we’d welcome the help but you can’t make us stop because we have a duty here to protect the people of Sunnydale. It is our desire to meet a slayer because we know so much about them. But…” her tone changed from explanatory to threatening. “…if you think you can come in here all holier than though, it won’t go well. She is no match for us. Join us, hate us, whatever. Doesn’t matter you won’t win.”

“Great collection by the way.” Willow finished in her usual light point of view.

Willow walked out leaving Giles with his mouth hanging open. She made her way to the water fountain, where unfortunately she ran into Cordelia Chase. She looks up and sees the new girl, which she concludes from her conversation with Giles that she must be Buffy.

She doesn’t look like much, but then again neither do I.

“Willow! Nice dress! Good to know you’ve seen the softer side of Sears.” Cordelia made fun of her as was her weekly pleasure. Willow looked down and frowned.

I could totally kill her right now. Okay bad thought, bad thought!
She admonished herself.

“Uh, oh, well, my mom picked it out.” The red-head turned and looked in the other direction down the hall and rolled her eyes.

“No wonder you're such a guy magnet. Are you done?” Willow looks at the fountain, then back at Cordelia. She stands up straight and prepares to turn.

“Oh!” She walks toward the direction she looked just seconds ago turning back as she crosses the threshold of the double doors at the end of the hall. Buffy and Willow catch each other’s gaze.

I guess I can feel the power, it isn’t so much magickal coming from her just within her. Weird. I need to tell the guys about this. Willow completed her thoughts and rounded the corner.

Buffy was intrigued by the girl and wanted to know about her. She made a point to find her later and ask around about who she was.

Part Two, Section Two: Ghosts

thoughts italicized

Buffy hung with Cordelia until she showed her to the library where they parted ways. Inside the library she encountered a flustered Giles.

“I was looking for some, well, books. I'm new.” This statement made Giles’ face light up as he hoped that this was Buffy Summers.

“Ms. Summers?”

“Good call! Guess I'm the only new kid, huh?” Buffy is clueless to what had transpired moments before between Willow and Giles.

“I'm Mr. Giles. The librarian. I was told you were coming. We have a dire situation and must get started right away.” He grew more uneasy as time passed hoping that Willow wouldn’t return. He had felt a great power enter the library but he though it was the slayer. The English librarian hadn’t recently tapped into his magick but he could sense power somewhat.

Once he found out that Willow wasn’t the slayer, he grew scared. Perhaps she was the great evil he feared would rise even though she didn’t really seem to want to hurt him.

“What are talking about? I’m here for ‘Perspectives on 20th Century…”

“It doesn’t matter what you need for such minor things as your education right now. There is a great evil here at this school and you are the slayer, it’s your job to face her.”

”I’m not a slayer, I don’t do that anymore, I’ve retired.”

“You have no idea what’s going on do you. I’ve just come face to face with a very intimidating young girl and she has a great power, more than I can comprehend and she says she fights vampires but she threatened me.”

“Great she can fight the vampires and her threatening you sounds like a personal problem to me. Why can’t you people just leave me alone?”

“Because you are the Slayer. Into each generation a Slayer is born, one girl in all the world, a Chosen One, one born with the strength and skill to hunt the vampires...”

“I’ve heard it okay. Anyway you said this girl goes to school here so she isn’t a vampire and I’m a Vampire slayer, not my department.” Buffy sighs and leaves the library without her book. Xander comes from behind the stacks having overheard the entire conversation.

Willow told me about this, it didn’t seem like the slayer is in with the watcher. She might not be a problem at all. I better warn Willow. How did that spell go?

He concentrated and opened his mind sending a beacon to Willow so she could complete the channel between them.

Yep, what’s up Xander.

Seems the slayer wants to be retired, she isn’t apart of this watcher’s plan to stop us from fighting evil, we should get to know her. I overheard them, give her a chance Will.

Okay, I will, closing the channel now.

At the moment Willow was sitting outside having a snack in the first break of the school day. Mere seconds after her conversation with Xander, Buffy approached her. She told Xander she would give the slayer a chance and intended on keeping true to it.

The slayer didn’t seem to know that the witch was the one that approached her watcher earlier in the day. She just wanted to get help with catching up.

“Oh I could totally help you out…” Willow smiled inwardly, “uh, if you have sixth period free we could meet in the library.”

“Or not, we could meet someplace quieter. Louder. Uh, that place just kinda gives me the wiggins.”

“Oh, it has that effect on most kids. I love it, though, it's a great collection, and the new librarian is really cool.” Willow threw in that last part to keep Buffy thinking that she didn’t talk much to the watcher. Xander came along and sat between the two girls and Jesse stood in front of them.

“Hey!” Jesse exclaimed.

”You guys busy? Are we interrupting? We're interrupting.” Xander said as he threw his bag over to Jesse. Jesse drops it next to his own.

”Buffy, this is Jesse and that's Xander.” Willow smiled at the silliness that was Xander and introduced Buffy.

”Well, it's nice to meet you guys, I think.”

“We were just talking about how Buffy not liking the library is a normal thing for most kids here.”

Xander helped the conversation along knowing the eventual outcome,“Completely normal, especially since the new librarian. What’s his name Willow?”

“Rupert Giles, he’s all English but I like him, he’s pretty cool. He’s a watcher apparently” Willow threw out. Buffy’s mouth drops open. She thinks that Willow must of overheard her conversation but how could she since she was outside already when she came from the library a second ago.

“The watcher to Buffy’s slayer.” Jesse added. Buffy frowned and stood quickly.

“What was there like a memo!? Does the whole school know?”

“Oh no, Willow can feel your power, she can sense these things.” Jesse was nonchalant about it.

“Oh” Buffy calmed a little. “So are you the one that threatened Giles because he wanted to send me out to slay you or something.” Her tone was light and funny.

“I didn’t really threaten him, he was under the impression he could tell me what to do. So I set him straight.”

“Good on you. So you guys fight vampires, do you have special powers?” Willow nodded toward Xander because he was particularly fond of telling their story.

“Well, Will here has the super powerful witchy mojo and she can kick anyone’s butt! Me and Jesse are the best martial artists in California and we have a little magickal prowess all our own. We knock down evil’s ass on a weekly basis! There’s really no point in going out every night.” Willow smiled at Xander’s enthusiasm.

“He’s really afraid of you Willow, maybe you should calm his wiggy feelings before he does something stupid.”

Willow quickly conceded,“I guess your right, adults think they know everything.”

After the group separated for the next class, Willow made her way back to the library. She explained to Giles that he just made her a little angry because he tried to tell her what to do. Living without adult influence for some time at home she didn’t appreciate it. He told her about meeting the slayer and that if he really wanted to know about her, they could have a meeting the next day.

Giles agreed immediately about the meeting and it was set.

The night was strangely darker than usual. The three were out looking for demons and vampires, anything out of the ordinary. They wondered how people never noticed all the cemeteries in such a small town. Things had been unusually quiet that night. The three had never faced anything they couldn’t handle together so the quietness signified something sinister on the horizon.

“There isn’t anything out tonight Will, lets go to the Bronze,” pleaded Xander.

“Okay let’s go.” She did a quick scan of the city to find anything lurking on the surface and failed to find anything but a small blip in another part of town.

“Wait, you guys go ahead, I feel something near Buffy, she’s about a mile from here, I’ll see you guys at the Bronze.” They nodded and separated from Willow.

In another part of the town, Buffy was approached by Angel, a very cute guy. It only took Willow a few minutes to reach them with the help of a little speed spell. They were in the middle of a conversation about the Harvest. The red-head saw Angel throw a box at Buffy, he turned and walked off. Willow walked up to the slayer.

“Wow, a vampire that gives gifts, that’s a first.” Buffy was startled by Willow’s sudden appearance and also comprehending what she said about Angel’s vampire status.

“What?” her brow furrowed.

“That was a vampire, you know that right. I mean you are the slayer.”

“Well, he said he didn’t bite.”

“And you just believed him, smooth. I guess it could be ‘cause he has a soul.”

“What?”

“He has a soul, a vampire with a soul, it is really weird. But nothing is sacred here in old Sunnydale. He’s only been here a few weeks, I’ve felt him. Since he has a soul I haven’t killed him. He’s pretty lame, gets his meals from the butcher shop.” Willow simply explained to Buffy.

“How do you know so much, who are you?” Having time to let the facts swirl around her brain Buffy just is intrigued by the level of comfort Willow has about subjects of evil.

“I’m Willow we went though this and didn’t you ask around about me?”

“Well, yea, I wondered why you let Cordelia walk all over now that I know more about you.”

“She’s trivial, has no real life. If I weren’t here she’d have been dead by now. Sometimes I slip and have bad thoughts about her, I try to stay neutral.”

As they talk a faint whisper drifts past them. Willow turned to look but doesn’t see anything. Buffy sees a fog that is really dim. The whisper passed back by in the other direction and this time they both catch a glimpse of the fog. Willow’s hand reaches and she creates a force field around it, bring it between the two of them and listening closely to the whisper.

“Seems to be some kind of ghost, what do you think Buffy?” Buffy just nods, having never seen any such thing. They both come closer and bring their ears as close to the field as possible without actually touching it.

It…is…coming. It will…come…for you. No…escape…witch! You’re…power…won’t save you. For…that…is…what…it wants!

“Uh oh, I’m in wicked trouble now,” Willow’s voice dripped with sarcasm. She closed the ghost in on itself and it was destroyed.

“Oh my God, Willow aren’t you afraid, it was talking about you.”

“No I’ve been fighting all kinds of thing for years now, there isn’t anything me and the guys can’t handle, even ghosts. Speaking of the guys, they went to the Bronze. You want to come with?” Buffy nodded although she was very worried.

They made their way to the Bronze without any other interruptions where they found the guys occupying a table. Willow showed Buffy around some before they joined Xander and Jesse.

Willow reintroduced Buffy as they sat down, “Hey guys, you remember Buffy.”

“Oh, me and Buffy go way back, old friends, very close. Then there's that period of estrangement where I think we were both growing as people, but now here we are, like old times, I'm quite moved.” Xander was his usual silly self.

“Is it me, or are you turning into a bibbling idiot?” Jesse couldn’t refuse the chance to make fun of his dark-haired friend.

“No, it's, uh, it's not you,” said an embarrassed Xander.

“Well, here’s what’s what. Me and Buffy ran into a ghost that says my life expectancy is about to be cut short. But that’s not important, what is important is we have a meeting tomorrow with the watcher. I set it up.”

“You did what Will?” Jesse is flabbergasted.

She was nonchalant,” We’re having a meeting with Giles and that is the end of it, tomorrow before school starts, we all need to be there. Once we show him our powers he’ll chill and help with the research.”

Willow had always been much more into the research then the guys. She’d already created a working database of every demon they’d encountered and all those from her books. When she saw the collection Giles had brought her main excitement was adding to her demonology.

The guys didn’t want to add the older man to the fold because they’d been adult free since the absence of Ramsy and Kiela.

“It’s one meeting, nothing can happen. You’ll be bored for twenty minutes, no biggy.” Buffy added to help Willow’s case—although it wasn’t really necessary.

“I need to go work on my magick, I’ll see ya.” Willow said all of a sudden, getting up to walk out.

“Willow wait, should we go with you?” a still worried Buffy asked.

Jesse answered for Willow, “She’ll be fine Buff, she’s got more power than a tornado ripping through the Midwest.”

The witch waved off Buffy’s question and walked out, not at all worried of what was to come. She really intended on going home and practicing some spells and working on teleporting. Tonight had been eventful when it came down to the ghost and finally catching a glimpse of the vampire with a soul.

All this stuff wasn’t going on before she arrived. Now we got nutty ghosts and harvests and vampires with souls. It could become overwhelming. Maybe Giles could help clear some things at the meeting. But I called the meeting, he’s going to expect me to do the talking. I wish Ramsy was here…Kiela. There is a lot going on but it all seems so trivial. What’s my power really for? There has to be more than this, there has to be.

Willow had an internal conversation on her way home, she was so out of it she didn’t see the fog enter her body. But second later she felt it and fell to the ground with a rippling scream that echoed into the night.

Oh no! The cliffhanger of DOOM! Hehe. ;-) I think that this story has a great deal of potential. Willow does border on cold and has the potential to become quite ruthless (like her dark witchy evil self), but I think that she'll mellow a great deal 1) now that she's had her ass kicked ;-) and 2) once Tara shows up on the scene. This is very interesting and I do hope that you continue to update as quickly as you have been. (I'm very impatient. ;-) )

Title: The Awesome Power

Author: SylverMaki

Disclaimer: None of these characters are mine. I’m just mangling their form beyond recognition because I love them so. Ramsy I made up and Kiela and maybe there will be some more but other than that don’t hate me for the little borrow.

Summary: Willow is a resurrection of the one who is meant to hold this amazing power. The power was bound, now it has come back with maybe some dire consequences. Of course the story will eventually be about Willow and Tara.

Note: If you don’t like the story, oh well. If you do great. I didn’t get it beta’d because I just couldn’t bring myself to. So don’t read if you can’t understand it.

Rating: Pretty calm right now. I’ll get back to you if it gets spicy.

Part Three: Where’s Willow?

thoughts italicized

The meeting went on without a hitch except for one little important detail, Willow was missing. Xander and Jesse were a little distraught as she was the one who called this meeting and now wasn't present.

"Aren’t you guys down with the sensing?" asked Buffy right away as time was going by and classes would be starting any minute.

"Not really, she is an amazing blocker. But we usually can contact her telepathically. I'll try for that." Xander offered. The others including Giles watched as Xander's face scrunched up a little as he telepathically called out to the redhead. He gestures for Jesse to try it as well and over the next five minutes they focus all their energy on contacting Willow. All attempts fail.

"She's not answering, something has to be wrong." Jesse looks at each of their faces afraid.

Giles feels the need to direct this sudden investigation of the disappearance of Willow,

"When you last saw her, where did she say she was going?"

"She said she was going to work on her magick. But she does that pretty much every night." Xander says simply.

"You let her go alone?"

"Absolutely she is the strongest of us all, she goes around alone all the time."

"Perhaps it is wise that we retrace the route she most likely took last night." The three high school kids nod at Giles suggestion and head toward the front gate before classes were due to start and therefore were not stopped on the way out.

They made their way to the Bronze and then the route that Willow most likely took as well as some of the other longer ways back to her house.
They did not find her. At this point, Xander and Jesse began to panic and
Buffy starts to blame herself.

"What are we going to do, what if something big happens and she isn't here, we can't handle it." Jesse starts.

"Forget about something big happening, we need to find out what happened to Will, she's one of us, she's our family." Xander was distraught. Jesse conceded ashamed of thinking about big trouble before Willow's wellbeing. He was just so used to her looking after herself he couldn't find it within himself to think of her in trouble.

"Giles, we can't find her and we can't find any clues. She isn't anywhere!" Buffy walked back into the library looking around for Giles as she talked. He walked out of his back office and placed his glasses back on his face to address her. He was speechless. How could someone that intimidated him now be missing, seemingly off the face of the earth. Then it hit him, why don't they just use a locater spell.

"How about a locator spell?" Giles suggested as he thought it.

"No that won't work, I mean you can try it but Willow's a good blocker like I told you, she only lets in who and what she wants. That is why Jesse and I can contact her, she knows our signature.”

"Well what are we going to do guys?" Buffy is becoming more distressed by the minute.

They didn't know what to do, they didn't know where to go. Xander couldn't help but think to himself, I wish Ramsy was here, he can do anything.

The gang decided all they could do is wait until that night and find out what they could from demons and maybe find witnesses of what happened to Willow. So they went on to class despite not wanting to.

****

Just north of California, in a Roseburg, Oregon, a funeral was taking place. An eighteen-year-old boy and a sixteen-year-old girl both blonde stood next to their father as the black casket was lowered into the earth. The girl was crying but not so much for her mother that was being buried but for a sudden loss she had felt since the night before.

The blonde was Wicca, she had been taught magick by her mother and the respect of said magick. And last night she felt someone sharing her pain. But it is unsafe to take someone's pain when nothing bad as happened to you. So unsafe that the pain is one hundred times that you would have felt. She didn't know who it was that shared the pain of her mothers death, all she knew was they would be so hurt that it could in fact kill them.

The sixteen-year-old tried to think of whom it was that could have shared her pain. It had to be someone who was advanced enough to have empathic powers. She didn't know any other Wicca’s so she couldn't come up with anyone by name. But she could trace the line between herself and the person who tapped into her pain.

Her mother was gone and so she didn't see any reason for her to continue to stay. Abusive family members were further incentive to get out. Standing next to her father at the funeral of her mother was trying, but it was at that moment she made the decision to leave and find the person that eased her pain. All of her life people gave her pain over and over and the opportunity to find the someone that took that pain away was an enticing adventure she had to undertake.

****

"Xander, hey!" Xander heard someone call his name from an out of the way corner in the school hall. He looked in the direction he heard the voice and didn't find anyone there. But he could feel something there and he had heard the sound come from that location.

"Will, is that you? Why are you hiding?" He asked beyond hopeful.

"No silly, it’s me Kiela."

"Holy moly! Why can't I see you?"

"Ramsy masked me, I'm going to take your hand and you follow me okay." Kiela stated on the verge of taking his hand. Once she had Xander in hand he became masked as well. They walked down the hall and out of the school. Across the street he spotted Ramsy before they got to him. He was standing next to a tree in the clearing across from the school. Kiela released his hand.

"Xander my boy, how the heck are you?" Ramsy slammed his hand into the dark haired boy’s chest and pulled him into a hug, immediately releases him afterward. Xander just looked at Ramsy like he was a ghost. He hadn't expected to ever see him again.

"I think you broke him Ramsy." Kiela snickered.

"No I'm…how am I? Well Willow's gone and we can't contact her." Ramsy nodded, "That is exactly why we are here. Xander have you ever heard of the ghost demon, Kwaad Spook?" Xander shook his head, "Weird name."

"It's Dutch Xander, it means evil ghost." Ramsy rolled his eyes.
Ramsy went on to tell him that this ghost demon has been around for some time. Since the Dutch officially separated from Germany in 1648. It has the ability to control ghostly fogs as well as a variety of other demons. One of these fogs has opened up Willow to another part of her power, the empathic part. This power is usually developed slowly so one can get used to feeling others feelings and not being overwhelmed by the entire world. But the ghost fog opened her up to it all at once.

Other than feeling the pain and suffering of the entire world, she was particularly in tune with the current feelings of her other half whom she has yet to meet. But Ramsy knew who Willow's soul mate was and just didn't want to interfere with the destiny of the two meeting. This ghost demon has made it impossible to stay in line with fate because it had kidnapped Willow to another dimension. The only way to find her is through the only link she has left in this dimension and that is her soul mate.

"How do we find this person?" asked Xander right away, ready to become action-guy.

"She is actually on her way here in search for Willow." Xander’s eyes grew wide at Ramsy's admission. The statement rolled over in his mind, "She?" the dark haired boy breathed out.

"Yep, Willow's soul mate is a woman. It is all complicated business but the best Wicca’s are always woman and so to combine powers you need the best. The two women would be the most powerful entity to grace the surface of this earth. But you can't tell Willow here soul mate is a girl because she isn't meant to know yet. They must find it in their own time.”

"Ok so I repeat how do I find her?"

"Hmm, you can sense other people right...by their inner signature?" Xander nods.

"Its simple then, I know her signature and I'll let you feel it. Sort of like how a dog can get the scent of something and then follow."

"Okay lets do it, oh by the way do you guys want to meet the slayer and Jesse? Oh and the watcher, Giles?" Kiela clapped and excitedly said, "Oh yea, I want to meet the slayer!"

"Sure, after I give you the signature why not meet them."
Ramsy infused Tara's signature beacon into Xander and made sure he could internalize it and follow it. Xander reassures that he can feel her on the move already, knowing her exact location in Roseburg, Oregon.

"Its freaky that I know the exact city and state, I don't even know geography. I guess I can look it up later." Since the deed was over, Xander and Kiela we once again masked as they all made there way back into the high school. Xander showed them to the library where he was sure he would find the others still trying to think of something that would help Willow.

"Hey guys." he spouted before any of them could see him.

"Why can't we see you Xander?" Jesse asked looking around. Ramsy unmasked them.

"Oh sorry you guys, we were invisible which is so cool." They looked at the other two people just behind Xander and before they could ask who they were, Xander introduced them,

"This is Ramsy and Kiela, they practically raised me and Willow. More importantly they know how we can get her back."

"The infamous Ramsy and Kiela, huh," Jesse rose to greet them, "It is a pleasure to finally meet you, I've heard so much, I mean a lot about you. Xander and Willow talk about you pretty much nonstop to the point of becoming bibbling idiots."

Ramsy shook his hand and Kiela hugged him, both saying hello as well.

Buffy was the next to rise and since she only met Xander and Willow the day before she couldn't really say she heard about the newcomers. Giles gave a polite greeting as well. Ramsy explained again how they were to find a girl that Xander now had the signature of because she was needed to find Willow. To return Willow this same girl has to go into another dimension and pull her back, sort of be her anchor.

"Well we can't teleport, we're gonna have to drive," Jesse tried to make perfectly clear.

"Actually, on the way out I can teleport you and whatever car you would use to her location, well close to her location and you can find her from there. Kiela and I must go now, so if you’re ready?"
Xander jumped up ready as did Jesse. Buffy looked over to Giles and he looked at her for a few seconds. They both nodded and Giles told them they could use his car. Ramsy teleported the gang and the car to the outskirts of Roseburg, Oregan while he and Kiela teleported back to their home in Africa. A few hours later it was getting dark and they still hadn't found the girls house.

"Xander, what's the problem I thought you knew where she was!" Buffy exclaimed frustrated due to the long ride.

"Its not exact all the time, it’s hard! I don't do this every day. Anyway there is this parable about patience and something about it being a virtue. Listen to it and...and stop yelling at me." Xander continued to concentrate on the target.

Part Four: Tara's Rescue

Section One.

The blonde packed up her things that night after the funeral and would prepare to leave as soon as the two males in the household finally went off to sleep.

I've never done anything like this before, its exciting. But beyond scary. What happens if I find this person and they just took part of my pain by accident? What if I find them and they won't help me find a new school and a new home? I have to finish school. Then again this feeling I'm having can't be denied. I can't deny it. I have to find this person, and I have to go tonight.

It was seven in the evening when the blonde became to restless to wait anymore and decided she'd have to leave now. Just sneak out. She'd made the dinner and cleaned up after the men. They would be busy with there usual stuff and maybe she could sneak out now and not be noticed, have a bit more time to figure out how she would follow the connection between this person and herself.

She creeped down the stairs, even at this early hour of the night the
house was dark. She looked around adjusting to the darkness of the room. When her eyes were fully adjusted she tried to see if anyone was in the room and didn't feel anyone in the downstairs part of the house. Her eyes fell on the doorknob and when reaching out for it she suddenly felt a light breeze behind her.

"Tara, where do you think you're going!" it was her brother Donny.

"D-d-donny, shh," she brought her finger up to her lips as she turned to Donny and cautiously looked in his eyes. What she saw there was hatred, toward her, toward their mother's death.

"Daaad!!! Tara's trying to skip out!" Tara heard a ruffling upstairs and then steps on the stairs. She knew if she stayed inside the house she'd never get out so she, went for the door opened it and ran outside before Donny could react.

"If you don't get back in this house, I swear by God I'll beat you down."

"And I swear by your full and manly beard, you're gonna break something trying." Xander walked up behind Tara, finally finding after hours of searching. Tara turns surprise to see Xander, Buffy, Jesse, and Giles in defensive stance behind her.

Who are these people? Tara thought to herself.

"Daaad!" Tara's father walked out and looked confused to find four people behind his daughter.

"Who the hell are you?" The older man looked at the four and challenged them.

"We've come for the girl. We'd appreciate taking her without a fight but we will fight you." Buffy spoke up first. Donny moved forward toward Buffy,

"I'll fight you little girl..." before he could say another word Buffy high kicked knocking him to his feet. She placed her foot on his neck to keep him down.

Buffy turned to Tara being the only girl so she would feel more comfortable,

"Hi, we sort of need your help, since your all wiccie. Do you mind coming with us, I mean it has to be better than control-ville here."

Tara just nodded, seeing this was probably the best way for her to get out of her home life alive. They backed up to Giles’ car and rode off back toward Sunnydale.

Well this is definitely the right way. I hope I get to meet this person soon, maybe they are the one’s who sent these people to help me. Tara thought on the drive back.

“I’m Buffy by the way.” She was the first to speak once they were on their way. Xander looked Tara over,

Definitely good looking, go Willow!

“I’m Jesse and he’s Xander.”

“Hello, I’m Mr. Giles, the school librarian; we’ll have to get you enrolled there if you are not going to be back.”

“I-i-i’m definitely n-not going back. M-my n-name’s Tara.” She cursed herself internally for her stutter and hoped they wouldn’t make fun of her. Xander finally spoke,

“It’s great to meet you Tara, greater than you know. We have a dilemma that only you can help us with.”

“Why me?” Xander enlightened to her that she had a connection with their friend Willow. Which Tara quickly caught on and told them she felt something, someone sharing her pain just yesterday night. To which they explained that is when Willow disappeared.

“I-if she’s g-gone…why do I f-feel her.”

“It’s the connection. Doesn’t matter if she’s in another dimension. That’s why you are the one that has to go to where you feel her and that’ll be where she left. You will be able to go through to the dimension she is in and save her. Bring her back I mean.”

Tara was becoming overwhelmed by all this new information she was receiving about her savior, “This is h-heavy.”

“You got that right Tara,” Buffy piped in.
“H-how’d you find m-me?”

Xander quickly told her, “I was given your signature by a mentor of mine and I felt my way to you, like a dog.”

“Yep, Xander the dog, sniffer of all there is to be sniffed,” Jesse teased.

“You are magick users then?” Tara had never met any other magickally inclined people and she was finding it odd to have so many at once in her presence.

“Me and Xander yea, the others I’m not sure. I don’t think the slayer has any and Giles is old no telling what he’s done or had,” Jesse filled in.
“I’m not old!” Giles pouted.

I just started this story but from now on you can consider me a loyal reader (hehe) and expect me to leave feedback.
What a unique way to integrate Tara into the story! Hope you will update soon so we can see what'll happen with Willow. The entire soulmate scenario and how Tara can feel Willow even though she isnt on this plane is a very cute concept. Wish everyone could find their soulmate like that :x

"It's here." Tara explained for the first time without studdering. The gang looked on at the slow growing black hole in the air. The hole was at half the height of everyone on average.

"Well, this is obvious." Xander joked.

"Hard to find in the dark though," Jesse added.

"I think it is best that one of the more experienced of us try to enter before we send Tara into this unknown," Giles reasoned with agreement from everyone else. Xander quickly raised his hand to volunteer and cautiously stepped closer to the black hole. He stuck out his finger and placed it closer to the black hole until he nearly touched it. Suddenly he was thrown back ten feet.

"That was interesting."

"Can you vague that up a bit, Giles," Buffy sarcastically stated.

"We should research this yes?" Jesse asked. But everyone turned to Tara because she started to enter the vortex. Halfway through she turned back to face them,

"We don't have time to research." Tara stated boldly but realizing the tone in her voice grew gentle, "W-willow might b-be hurting. I fit just fine and I-I-I'll find her. I h-have to do t-this." As she finished talking the rest of her disappeared through the hole.

"Well this is rather sloppy to leave behind a hole like this," Giles said offhandedly.

Jesse replied, "Not really because Xander couldn't get through it and I don't think I want to test if I can. They probably thought they were covering all bases, these ghosts that stole Willow from us."

"What I meant was this vortex is obviously growing. At this rate the two dimensions will start to bleed into each other very shortly and I've never seen a vortex firsthand, let alone closed on." The Englishman elaborated.

The gang looked to each other...

*****

It was barren, quiet and dry. Tara had never seen any such place before and felt strange just being in this dimension. There was no sign of life, and the ground was like a desert sand but it was too dark to even see to her feet.

"Fiat lux!" a teeny tinkerbell light showed up in front of her and guided her in the direction she felt the need to go. The connection she had with Willow was very strong and all that need to be done was to follow it until she found her. Now with a little light she could make out stone pillars on either side of her and she began to wonder if she was inside of a building or some type of ancient ruin. There is really no telling because she could be in any dimension out of the infinite universe that existed.

I can't believe this, I am in the middle of some weird structure looking for a girl I don't even know as more than anything but my savior. If it wasn't for her I would be severely hurt because my brother would have beat me and my father would have beat me just for needing to leave. She...she took away my pain. And just a few hours after and I'm already finding my life to be a lot more interesting. Different dimensions, possible danger...

Tara stopped mid thought, as she heard a faint sound in her mind of all places.

"I-is anyone t-there?" she said aloud straining to see if there was anyone nearby, hopefully Willow.

who are you...

"Um, I'm uh T-tara." the blonde timidly answered back. When she got no respond it occurred to her that whoever it was wasn't in hearing distance so she thought what she just said to see if maybe they would hear.

are you a ghost Tara...

Tara had never heard her name sound so pleasant and serene, yet strained as if it was a struggle to say it. She breathed in deeply as she answered this unknown thinker,

no, I'm looking for Willow, a redheaded girl, have you seen her around? Her friends sent me to get her.

why... the voice Tara heard grew faint. why didn't they come themselves...

They couldn't get through the dimensional portal, I'm the only one in the world that could. I have some sort of connection with her. Again, have you seen her?

There was no answer at all. Tara started to panick because before she heard the voice in her head she figured that she was all alone in some barren dimension with no one to guide her. She thought the voice would be her salvation. The blonde tried to reach out again to the voice but could not get an answer. All she could think to do was continue to just feel her way toward Willow.

Ihhh, need more! That has left me with an eerie feeling.

"How the heck are we gonna close this, I don't know how to do that!" Xander was overwhelmed.

"Yea, we usually ask Willow, she's the genius. What do you think Giles?" added Jesse.

Buffy looked over to Giles as they continued to stand near the portal hoping that Tara would soon reappear with Willow. They knew it couldn't be closed until they both came back otherwise they would be trapped. Well that was there reasoning.

"I hope everything's ok," Buffy threw out, merely expressing her concerns. Giles seemed to be thinking about what it is they were going to do about this entire situation. Just this morning they were going to have a meeting and he would have discovered all the things he wondered about Willow and now she was missing. Not only that they had involved another girl into the mix. His secret about the slayer seemed to be spreading quickly.

"We can not close the portal until they return, but we must prepare for the chance they won't return. To let this portal continue to grow will endanger everyone, we must think of the greater good."

"There is no way we can leave Willow and now Tara to suffer, or leave them trapped in the wrong dimension. It's not an option!" Jesse exclaimed, for the first time becoming serious and concerned.

"Jesse is right, we won't even let you think about closing down this portal on Willow. We may not be the strongest when it comes to magick but we can take you down." Xander was becoming surprisingly dark.

"Calm down guys! I know you don't want to think about this but we have to talk about how long we can wait before we have to close this thing. Plus right now we don't even know how to close it so there is no need for violence."

Right a slayer talking about no need for violence...pfft, Jesse thought to himself since Willow's absence prevented him from making a connection with Xander.

Giles tried to redeem himself, "Buffy is right there is not one single thing we can do now anyway."

"We need to research, but someone has to stay here and watch to see if they come back." Buffy suggested.

Xander and Jesse volunteered and Buffy thought it best that she and Giles separate from the two before anything heinous went down. Buffy and Giles made there way back to the school library, while the other two sat down on the ground near the portal. The guys decided on intervals where one of them would rest when the time came that they became tired.

****

Out of the corner of her eye, the blonde wicca saw a slight fog. Every step she took seemed to be accompanied by a growing number of wispy fogs. The whole scene was ominous to say the least. Just as a fog had secretly approached Willow in ambush formation, another tried the same tactic on Tara.

It approached her from behind and made a mad dash toward the girl. Tara turned quickly and quietly spoke "protect", creating a force field around herself impenetrable by the ghost fogs. She took a closer look still under protective cover of the ghost fog before it poofed into nothing. A little more cautious than before, Tara continued to walk on in search of Willow.

She passed by mountains of sand and more pillars but the one thing that caught her eye was the appearance of a floating door. The closer she got to it the farther away it seemed. She tried running which she found to be difficult under her protective veil and therefore continued to walk. If she could visualize the connection between herself and Willow, it would be a dim light going through the door. So she knew it was imperative that she make it to the door.

After some time it became frustrating. Tara stopped and took time to think about what could be going on.

Okay I'm walking but I'm not getting anywhere. If I stop and release the protect spell, I'll be attacked by little wispy fogs which I have to assume are ghost from my conversation with whoever that was. I could try to contact whoever again but I've done that and nothing. I don't know I should just keep moving.

Tara started to walk again, careful to continue and protect herself. A three minute interval goes by and her protection spell disippated, on both sides of her are stone statues of samurai lined up in the same formation as the pillars.

Uh oh! Tara panicked as would anyone in that situation.

The fogs swirled around her before they rushed into the forms of the samurai, all sixteen of them. Instantly they came to life, ready to attack her.

Please Willow, I don't know what to do...

Silence resonated in the blonde's mind. Tears began to form and she frantically tried to think of something as the stone figures approached her. There steps were heavy and dust flew as they pounded the sand.

TBC...tomorrow definitely

Part Five: First Sight

Thoughts italicized

It had been over six hours and there was still no sign of Tara or Willow. The guys were beyond restless and hoped that maybe a vampire or two would come by so they’d have something other to do. But it was daybreak, no vampire in there right mind would be out at that hour. They knew in there hearts they needed to watch in case Willow was hurt or Tara. Just in case the two came out of the vortex and couldn’t take another step, they had to be ready.

“How long has it been Jesse?”

“Long time.” The two continued to sit facing the vortex, not really talking, not really thinking. They both felt helpless, lost before the break of an unknown circumstance.

In the meantime, Giles and Buffy were in the school library still researching how to close the vortex or at least how long one could stay open before dimensions bleed. They had a serious inkling that the time was near and therefore started rushing their efforts.

Giles had pounds of books that were supernatural related but none seemed to talk too much about dimensional portals. Buffy was annoyed,

“Now when you sent away for the Time-Life series, didn’t you check to see if there was anything on dimensional vortexes?”

“I’ve never encountered a wormhole, and, and the only thing I’ve read about them were in science fiction books.” Giles defended himself.

“You read sci-fi?” Buffy looked at him like he’d grown a second head, “You need a personality stat!”

“We haven’t time to prattle on like this…”

Buffy interrupted, “And why’s that we haven’t found anything in six hours.”

“I fear the time is near where we must find a solution. I’m going to ring the Council in England, keep researching.” Giles got up and went into his office. Buffy just grabbed yet another book and hoped this one had an index.

****

Tara deftly dodged a blow from yet another Samurai, she tried to make her way to the floating door but there were just too many blocking her way. Every time she tried to get closer to the door they’d move before her. Every now and then one would take a swipe at her which she quickly learned to evade.

Okay this isn’t so bad, at least they aren’t all coming at me at once…

They’re waiting for the right time, it’s what they did to me…

Willow is that you, is that you talking to me?!

Yes…

Why didn’t you answer me before…

I…I can’t…

Again, there was silence in Tara’s mind she tried calling out to Willow and again she got no answer. The door was the same distance away and now there was sixteen stone guys blocking her. The situation was becoming more difficult by the moment. The blonde looked to every corner her eyes could see, she looked to the ceiling and to the ground for some type of salvation—an answer to all her current problems.

But nothing in life is ever that easy. There was no answer and so Tara had to think, and think of something as quickly as possible.

I have the situation; I have myself unhurt at the moment. What would I do if I was backed in a corner by my father and Donny? In those times I would just cower, I can’t do that now. Willow needs me, more than anyone else, she needs me. I can’t let her down. I just don’t know what to do!!

Another Samurai tried to hit her across the face.

Think…why are they coming at me one at a time? Willow said they are just waiting, but what for? What…what are they waiting for? She said they are waiting for the right time, a time when I did what?

All the magick up until now had been light stuff, a little tinker bell light, a little protection spell. And those spells were now gone, something caused them to fail in this area. They were interrupted purposefully so she’d try to use a stronger spell and that power would be sucked in the Samurai giving them full capability.

Okay above all else, I can’t perform a spell. Perhaps I can use the connection, the connection I have with Willow has to be able to help me.

She concentrated on visualizing her connection with Willow, and when it appeared to her she noticed it was as thin as a split-end. Just a little while ago, when she visualized it, the connection was much stronger.

Something must be wrong with Willow…

Tara continued to focus in on the connection and with one hand she touched it. It felt like a string, a thin thread between herself and Willow and one that she used to pull herself toward the door. She took care not to pull too hard in case the thread was near breaking.
The blonde’s mind was frantic; it was possible that Willow was dying or dead already.

Tara didn’t know much about the connection she had with Willow, she just thought it was because the redhead took her pain and so was forever entwined with her. She didn’t know it had anything to do with being Willow’s soul mate because Xander never told her. He hadn’t told anyone due to the advice of Ramsy, not to interfere.

The dynamic of two souls to be joined was a difficult subject that hardly anyone knew about. There were no books about it, there was only the chance that someday we’d all meet that person and be complete. What if one of them dies before they even meet?

That connection fades until the next lifetime when they are both alive? That couldn’t be because Willow’s soul was just resurrected after 4000 years and this connection she had with Tara had endured lifetimes of Tara being alone. The blonde’s soul had been alone for so long that it could not be so anymore.

Her essence had called to Willow over the centuries and allowed the redhead to be free and helped the great power become unbound. There was desperation behind Tara’s need to save Willow. She could no longer stand another life without her other half and she wouldn’t.

Tara simply pushed aside the Samurai even though they tried to strike her. She pulled herself toward the door and it finally became closer and closer until her hand touched the knob. The blonde wicca turned the knob and her first look inside she caught a glorious sight but also devastating.

The moment her eyes laid upon the frail body of a redheaded girl, tears of joy formed in her eyes and time slowed.

What is it when nothing else matters but the vision before you? What is that feeling that you can’t go on without simply touching that figure?

Tara snapped out of reverie and ran to Willow’s side. The sight was heartbreaking. The redhead was collapsed over a wooden chair. Her arms were tied behind her back and she was unconscious. Willow’s clothes had a faint scent of blood and her breathing was so shallow Tara wasn’t even sure at first if she was alive.

This is what mom told me would happen if someone took pain that wasn’t there’s. But how much of this is from whoever took her into this horrible place?

Tara untied Willow and lifted her with surprising ease. She turned and made her way toward the door she just came through.

“You can’t go back that way dear. So you figured out my little trap. Don’t worry there is no way you and that witch are getting out of here before I take her power, it belongs to me.”

Tara’s chest constricted at the first word she heard from behind her. Tara hesitated to turn around but out of the shadows floated a demon ghost,

“They call me Kwaad Spook…”

Tara felt a harsh breeze move toward her and her legs buckled, she dropped Willow.

“Did you think you could just walk in here and take her? That isn’t a possibility!”

I should have warned you...told you to go back…Tara heard a whisper of Willow’s voice in her mind and looked down at the still unconscious girl who she knew she’d have to find some way to save.

Part Six: Getting Out

thoughts italicized

Willow, even in unconsciousness could feel the presence of someone she was meant to know. Her heart reached out not only for her well-being but for her the well-being of this girl who was trying to save her. Her name, Tara. An angelic name to say the least.

Willow couldn't feel much of anything but she knew the new pain she was feeling was due to being dropped. Something was stopping Tara from walking out of here and taking her to safety. The redhead was unable to open her eyes and couldn't see what was going on. But she could hear. She heard Kwaad Spook speak, she heard him coming after poor Tara. She heard the demon call himself by name and tried to reach into her memory preserves to see if she had heard of him.

It didn't take long before Willow realized she had no memory of the ghost demon, but she did know enough root languages to know that his name was Dutch for evil ghost. She began to think about the events of the past day or so, she couldn't remember exactly how long she'd been here. She was attacked by a ghost fog, she had underestimated her vulnerability and let something kidnap her. She couldn't help but think that her friends must be laughing at her right now. She'd been such an idiot.

Willow felt a strong need to communicate with Tara but she was just so weak that it was terribly hard and painful to reach out. Despite the pain she had to help the blonde girl.

Tara...take my power you can beat this...

How Willow?

Connect with me, take my hand, feel the connection, pull my power into you, use it against him...

But if I take your power, you'll die...

Not, not necessarily...

Willow, I can't...if you get hurt I'd never forgive myself.

Tara I trust you, just do it...or we'll both die

Willow please...

Willow was cut off, she could no longer endure the pain of communicating with just her mind. Tara let the conversation roll over in her mind. She could take Willow's power that wasn't a problem but maybe that is what this ghost was betting on, maybe he needed Tara to take the power out of Willow and direct it toward him and he'd just absorb it.

It was a trap before and Willow hadn't made the best decision. Maybe this was the same exact situation. Tara felt there was only one way to find out, she directed a mild spell at Kwaad Spook after she pretended to draw out Willow's power. The ghost didn't even try to block her spell. Just as Tara thought the ghost demon absorbed her power.

"Is that it dear, sure you can't muster a little more power? Take me down, come on," he was a bit too eager for Tara's liking.

Tara couldn't believe she was right again, she made a note to herself to always trust her intuition when it came to being in danger.

Think Maclay! There has to be some spell that can block absorption, a spell that can cause damage.

Tara ran the gamut of her knowledge of spells and it was admittedly hard to think offhand especially when she is in danger and scared.

"So you won't give it to me huh. Think you are so smart. If I hurt you, you'll cave. I have no doubt at all," the ghost demon smirked, pleased with himself.

Kwaad Spook, approached Tara and Willow and prepared to use his own powers to raise up Tara and drop her. The blonde watched him closely simply wondering what he was getting ready to do. The only important thing she knew was he was going to hurt her--try and torture her into using Willow's powers against him.

Tara felt herself rising a quarter of an inch of the ground before she rose her hand up to face him and spoke "clausus". She dropped back down to the ground and the ghost demon roared in anger. He attempted to lift her again but was unable to. She successfully blocked his spells against her.

"Oh you are a smart one. I may not be able to hurt you but you'll never get out of here until you hand over her powers."

"Okay, I've had enough! W-willow is dying and h-her p-power will die with her unless you l-let us g-go. Now!" Kwaad Spook took a moment to consider this. It is true, if he let her die she would lose all hold on the great power and it would be bound until she was resurrected and who knows when that'll be.

"You're right. I can't even believe it. But I'll come for the power again, she won't know when it is coming but I'll be there to rip it from her. It's supposed to be mine!"

Tara for the first time in her life wondered how she talked herself out of a bad situation. It never worked for her. The next time she blinked she and Willow were at the entrance of the portal and she could see Jesse and Xander on the other side.

She couldn't believe that they waited there, it must have been at least half a day since she'd stepped through. But she was terribly relieved because she had drained herself trying to protect Willow. Tara lifted Willow up through the portal and on the other side Jesse jumped up, as did Xander to grab her. Then Tara went through and the exhaustion was written on her face. She hadn't been asleep since the day before.

"Tara are you ok, we have to get Willow to the hospital." Xander looked Tara over as he explained the need to heal Willow.

Tara just looked on dazed. Xander motioned for Jesse to grab her and they made there way to the hospital with the two girls in arm. The boys walk through the emergency room doors and went straight to the front desk.

"What happened?" the nurse at the counter asked, looking between the two girls. Tara was conscious just a little dazed and tired. Willow looked extremely frail and wasn't conscious.

"Doesn't matter, help now!" Jesse exclaimed, ready to rip her head of for just not calling the doctor. The girls were rushed off after a vague explaination was given by Xander as to what happened. While they were being taken care of Xander used the desk phone to call Buffy and the watcher. As soon as Giles hung up the phone both he and Buffy made their way to the hospital and joined the guys.

"So they just came back through?" Buffy was asking Jesse.

"Yea, Tara pushed Willow through. She looked terrible," the tall boy's face fell into a frown.

"I'm just glad we were still there to help," Xander added.

"Yes perhaps if Willow comes around she'll know something about closing the portal since you two says she is the genius."

"Not if Giles, she will. Willow is strong," Xander made perfectly clear. The gang remained quiet and time rolled by with no news from the doctors about either of their condition.

Part Six: The Soul Mates Meet

Thoughts Italicized

The doctor had informed the gang that Tara was doing just fine; she just suffered from some exhaustion and dehydration. Willow’s condition was considerably worse. Including but not restricted to several broken ribs. The doctors had just got control over the internal bleeding. The point was that Willow would be in the hospital for some time because she couldn’t breathe on her own due to her ribs puncturing the lungs and being in a catatonic state.

The gang had come back day and night for the past three weeks, Willow was improving but had yet to wake. With Willow out of commission Xander and Jesse teamed up with Buffy to patrol. Some times Tara joined them, Giles had her enrolled at Sunnydale High and she had stayed in a spare room at his house. They stopped the Harvest preventing the Master from rising and he was not too happy about it. The gang also prevented Amy’s mother from killing Buffy and hurting other cheerleaders. Xander single-handedly stopped a giant She-Mantis from mating and decapitating virginal boys.

They came to learn that Giles was a good guy and very helpful researcher. He was essentially the adult figure they had needed when it came to safety and precaution during patrol. Every day they worried if Willow would ever come out of her coma. Giles worried mostly for the fact that the portal was becoming very noticeable and no one at the council knew how to close it. He had found out how to reduce its size daily but it still continued to grow. Xander’s extreme faith in Willow knowing how to close it was all the hope Giles had.

In the meantime, Tara and the others in the gang were coming closer by the day. How couldn't they like her since she had without question went into the unknown and brought Willow back.

They found her to be kind and considerate and very sweet. She was also smart and caught up in classes and Sunnydale High quickly. Xander felt it his duty to look out for her since she was Willow's soul mate and they'd probably have her around for a lifetime. They all liked her because she was so helpful and selfless.

“Why’s she sitting in there?” Buffy asked as the gang watched Tara holding onto Willow’s hand for dear life from the redhead’s room door.

“Because she’s the one protecting Willow incase that Kwaad Spook guy comes back,” Jesse explained.

Willow’s eyes were tightly shut but she was awake. The doctors thought she was still unconscious but just now she was coming back to the real world. She could feel the blinding pain covering her body. It wasn’t hard for her to figure out she was in the hospital from the beeps and smell. The first thing she felt after the pain was the sensation of someone holding on to her hand.

Must be Xander…but his hands aren’t this soft. Hmm. I could open my eyes, but I have a serious inkling that it’ll hurt. And more pain definitely not of the good.

She wanted to keep her eyes shut but she really wanted to see who was holding her hand, maybe it was her mother. Perhaps her family had finally come around to caring enough about her to stick around. As soon as she opened her eyes just a little, she shut them right back. Willow couldn’t help but groan in discomfort.

The gang at the door looked over to her and Tara looked up from her seat next to the hospital bed. Her hand jerked away from Willow’s hand so she didn’t seem too forward especially since she hadn’t even properly met the girl.

Sure I saved her but she may not even like me…she probably won’t, Tara frowned externally.

Willow also frowned a little at the loss of contact. Definitely not my mother.

Giles, Buffy, Xander and Jesse all piled into the room against the doctor’s wishes that no more than two of them should visit at one time. But the doctors also didn’t know that she was awake.

Xander and Jesse rushed over to the side of her Tara wasn’t on. The right side. Tubes were going into her nose and one directly into her navel probably for feeding purposes.

“Will, stupid question I know, but how are you?” Xander tried to rouse Willow further after hearing her groan again.

“Definitely stupid Xander,” Jesse scolded. Willow chuckled lightly with her eyes still shut, she didn’t intend on trying to open them again anytime soon.

Her voice cracked as she started to talk, Tara had water at hand for her to sip. The blonde brought the cup to Willow’s mouth and the redhead took the hint and drank a couple sips. Willow tried talking again,

“You know me, I’m fine fine, finey mcfine fine.” Willow said with a scratchy voice. Tara couldn’t help but giggle as she hadn’t expected that to come out of Willow’s mouth. The others in the room also smiled brightly.

“See Giles totally thought you were gonna die,” Buffy blurted out.

“I’ll be fine,” Willow was determined.

“S-shouldn’t we get the d-doctor?” A worried Tara suggested timidly. Willow nodded a little.

“Major pain going on here.” Willow joked half-heartedly.

“Yea and we’d better get out of here before they see us all,” Jesse said as he turned to look out in the hall in a stealthy fashion.

“We will definitely be back later, to check on you,” Xander added and kissed Willow’s forehead causing a smile to form on her lips. They all voiced their agreement and started to pile out after Jesse, Tara being the last to move toward the door. Willow could feel each of them and knew who was leaving when. Even though she had yet to open her eyes she could picture all of them leaving and the new person she’d never really sensed up close until now.

The picture in her mind of what she felt in her surroundings was similar to a heat sensor. But the sensor wasn’t heat it was aura.

The redhead couldn’t help but feel a connection with the new person she had never really met but who risked her life to save her. Before she let her leave and maybe never see her again she had to thank her, had to ask her something important.

“Tara wait.” Tara turned stunned, she hadn’t expected Willow to even remember she was there let alone want to talk to her in private.

“M-more w-water?” Tara asked unsure of why Willow called her back.

“No, I…I just wanted to say thank you for coming to some unknown dimension and saving me of all people. I mean you don’t even know me and you risked your life. So thank you.”

“Oh, it was nothing.” You probably would have done the same for me, she continued in her mind sick of stuttering all the time.

“It was definitely something; I want to talk to you later when my throat isn’t all blechy. K?” the tip of her tongue stuck out a little as she smiled in what she knew was the direction Tara was in.

Tara’s heart swooned, what a smile. “O-okay later. Bye…Willow.”

Bye…Tara. Willow said telepathically to Tara before dropping off into a pain-filled rest.

Oh my goddess, she is trying to kill me. She has to stop saying my name like that before I do something beyond friendly. Oh goddess what if she’s listening in my head?!
