Ooh, Candleshoe, you are a good one! Indeed they did! I had forgotten about that? What a wonderful thing that was, hearing her lovely voice again. And i'm sure she got a mention in Season 6 too, when the sexual harrassment case against Fenner came up again. It's kind of sad how excited i got just at the mention of her name. But it was all i had, and i was going to cling to it.

They definately need someone cute this season. I always found Denny Blood rather fetching (of course, Helen and Nikki as well, but i don't think i even need to mention them it's that obvious). My, that was a sad day. And then of course, there was the lovely Sheena Williams who disappeared from Larkhall along with the equally lovely Kris Yates. Those inmates drop like flies. Fall right off the radar. And of course, it wouldn't be a post about the fetching ladies of Larkhall if i DIDN'T mention Karen Betts...would it? ;-)

Karen Betts? Are you kidding? Although, now you come to mention it, in some lights she could be quite...oh OK, you convinced me :lol

Yes, only in some light. Sunlight, the lamp from a light bulb, moonlight, the blinking light from the stand-by button on a TV set.... ;-) However, i do think it were her 'take no crap' attitude i found most sexy. Although there were a few times i felt like slapping her across the face with a fet fish. I mean for pete's sake, it's Fenner woman!

Shaz was a cute one. Always reminded me of a constantly happy/hyper pixie. Now, Denny and Shaz, those two were another cute couple. *sigh*

Denny and Shaz were as dippy as each other, that's what I liked. They were funny and had a laugh, and loved each other - just like life should be. But without the prison part, or the escaping, or the fire or the...well, OK, not quite like life should be.

In fact, why isn't this show thought of as an example of The Cliche? I'm not trying to start a row, just wondering why there's nowhere near the amount of backlash about some of the storylines in this show as there is about The L Word etc. It's written by gay men and lesbians, just like The L Word, so it can't be a question of the writers being forgiven because they are 'one of us'...perhaps it's because the show is taken less seriously. It isn't a show that is pitched as "for lesbians about lesbians", it's a camp, cult classic where over-the-top storylines and ridiculous plots are the norm. Shell dressed as an enormous penis, for example :lol

Or maybe the writers did the clever thing of rewarding the viewers from the start by having a happy, successful lesbian couple run off into the sunset together. After that, perhaps we'll put up with almost anything...

I think you've pretty much hit the nail on the head with both of those comments, Candleshoe. Being such a dramatic, sometimes hardcore show, it's almost as if the fact that something bad is happening to a lesbian couple gets pushed aside, because of the conditions and other circumstances. Shaz, for example. Tragic, and could totally be viewed and just another victim of The Cliche, but she wasn't the only one targeted. A lot of bad crap happened when half of Larkhall exploded, and so maybe it didn't feel like they were just targeting the cute lesbian couple? I dunno, i could just be talking an enormous amount of crap, given the fact that it's 2:20am, but Bad Girls always makes me vocal.

Also, the show has it's moments, like you pointed out, where it really doesn't take itself seriously. Shell and her rather large friend is a prime example of that. It's not all about the lesbian love/angst stories, there's a lot more going on, funny, serious, they've even had a couple of straight storylines! ;-) Plus, their characters remained consistant throughout the show, which is more than i can say for L Word and it's 180-wonders. Yep, that was an out of nowhere dig, i'm bitter about the last season. ;-)

Anyway, enough of my incoherent rambling i think. I don't view it as part of The Cliche, while all common sense tells me i should, and i think the Nikki/Helen relationship is a huge part of that. They got their happy ending. I can't think of many other TV lesbians that got to walk off into the sunset together.

You are right we could learn few things from those two, although not the triple murder or what ever Deny was locked up for. They knew what they wanted, each other, and they went for it. Plus they didn't take life too seriously. Oh young love.[/quote]

Anyone else see the first in the new series tonight in the UK?

Anyone else make the correct armchair diagnosis about 20 minutes in?

Anyone else wonder when this series became an after-school special on religious tolerance? A good point, obviously, but somewhat clumsily and incongruously made, I thought....just my opinion. :-D
