Pairing: Eventually W/T
Rating: For now anywhere from PG-13-R
Disclaimer: I'm not rich and I'm not Japanese...nor a rich Japanese. So, I don't own either series.
Note: This is a BtVS/Tenchi Muyo crossover. I could have named the fic 'Tara Muyo' but...why in the hell would I want to name it that, when the translation would be 'No Need For Tara'? Don't think so, ain't gonna happen. Anyway, for those who don't know Japanese 'Oni' is 'Demon' and 'Tenshi' is 'Angel', so the translation is 'Demon or Angel'.
Chapter One: Cave Exploring
The bright morning sun reflected off of a large lake at the foot of a long set of stairs. One hundred stairs to be exact. At the top of these stairs sat an old temple-like home, and the person who lived inside the home was an older woman named Nikko Maclay.
Nikko had two grandchildren, one granddaughter named Tara, and one grandson named Alexander, but he liked to be called Xander for short. Looking out the window; the older woman saw both of her grandchildren sweeping the courtyard, and giggled when Tara smacked Xander's butt with her broom.
Neither of them were lazy like most teenagers, both helped her take care of the once shrine to the goddess Tsunami, and also helped in the large five acre garden. Between the chores she was teaching them sword fighting, and self-defence, knowing that one day it would become useful. Especially now that Tara was becoming more and more courious as to the legend of the cave. Sighing the older woman sent up a prayer to her daughter, and the goddess Tsunami, to watch over the courious girl.
The front door opened as Nikko sat down to eat breakfast, her grandchildren were laughing and both kissed her cheek, before they sat down at the table with her. Nikko smiled and watched them for a moment getting lost in thought.
Tara was the oldest by a year, and looked just like her mother, although she turned out to be more shy, and stuttered more than her mother ever did. Long dark blonde hair, and blue eyes the older woman could tell the weather by, clear blue meant it was going to be a beautiful day, and dark blue meant it was going to rain. Right now Tara's eyes were crystal clear, so, the day would be a nice one.
Xander was turning out more like his father everyday, and Nikko didn't know if that was good or bad. Her son-in-law could be a little on the perverted side at times, and Xander was following in his footsteps. The boy did have the man's good looks though, that she could give him. Dark hair with a three-inch long rat-tail, and expressive dark brown eyes.
Looking at the clock that showed six-fifteen, Nikko sighed, she hated to see her grandchildren leave for school. They really didn't talk about it much, but the older woman knew they didn't have anyone they could call friends, except for each other.
"Gran? You okay?" Xander asked quietly not wanting to startle the older woman.
Nikko smiled at the seventeen year old boy and nodded, "Yes, I'm fine, just thinking that's all."
"When are you going to let us explore the cave?" Tara asked with her soft voice.
"Tara, I don't think you're old enough."
"But grams! I'm eighteen!" Tara let a smirk show. "I am an adult."
Nikko let her own smirk cross her lips, "Okay, if you can get the keys to the gate from me, then you can go inside and look around." she stood up and was soon wrestled to the floor, with Tara landing on top.
Not to be out done, Nikko brought her left leg up and flipped Tara over and into a closet, where she half laid, half sat, looking stunned.
"See," Nikko grinned standing. "you're old granny's still got it. Now, I think you children should get ready to catch your ride to school." she said and walked out the door, for her morning walk.
"Sis! You alright?" Xander asked pulling Tara up and heard her giggle. "Did you hit your head?"
"Nope, but I did get the keys." Tara smiled holding up a golden ring with two small lock keys. "Now, let's check out the cave before grams misses them!" Tara poked her head out the door, and not seeing her grandmother anywhere in site, bolted toward the cave gates.
"Tare! I don't think this is the best idea you've had!" Xander worriedly glanced around, expecting Nikko to jump out and catch them.
"Oh, come on, bro! I know you've been wantin' to see what's in this cave as much as me. And that legend about the demon isn't gonna scare me off!" Tara opened the gate and stepped through with Xander right behind her. When the gate closed a chill ran up her spine causing her to shiver.
The dark entrance of the cave loomed in front of them like a giant beast's open maw, and for Xander it was giving him the creeps! Sure, when he was just a kid he'd always wanted to explore the cave, and even now, he had to wonder what was so bad that Nikko didn't want them going inside. Gathering his courage Xander followed his older sister inside and felt the same chill Tara had eariler.
Just for a moment both teenagers got lost in thought as they remembered the day they were told about the demon.
[Thirteen Years Ago]
"Tara! Xander!" Nikko's voice startled the two children. "Why do the two of you come up here, even after I've told you not to?"
"But grams! Why?" Tara asked watching her grandmother kneel in front of her and Xander.
"I told you why. A demon sleeps here."
Xander looked at the older woman wide-eyed, "A demon?"
"A long time ago, an evil demon came here from the sky one day. In one step it could cross three mountains, and in one strike it could flatten even the biggest mountain in it's path. It destroyed villages, and burned everything. The people suffered greatly because of its evil powers."
"What happened to the demon?" Tara asked quietly.
"One day a ship like a dragon appeared from the sky, and one its back rode a mighty mage. By the way she was our ancestor. She fought the demon...using her magic, and a powerful sword with great spiritual powers. She finally defeated the demon and sealed it in this cave. Even now, the demon sleeps here, held prisoner. And the sword planted in the ground...keeps watch over it.
[End]
There wasn't much to see near the front of the cave, only the moss covered walls at first, but they soon turned into something more. At the back the two found a small birdhouse-like cover over an old rusted sword. A bright smile lit up Tara's face as she wrapped her fingers around the hilt, and pulled.
"This is cool. Wow, it's old too, maybe at least a hundred years old." She said swinging the sword around and brought it down on a two-foot tall round rock. Her eyes went wide and her face matched the horrified look on Xander's face. The rusted blade cracked and fell into five pieces, leaving Tara holding the hilt. "Oh...shit!" Tara backed up ready to leave.
Just as the brother and sister turned to leave; the rock Tara had hit split into two halves, and the left wall split apart. The teenagers took a step back as the walls moved two-foot apart and a dim green glow lit up the cave. Xander reached out for Tara when she stepped forward, and missed her hand by an inch, his sister looked through the two-foot wide crack and shrugged.
"I wonder what's in there?"
"Tara!" Xander screamed when Tara took a step forward and slid down, and disappeared into the darkness.
Tara's own terrified scream was echoing off the walls as she slid down the twenty-foot drop, and came to a stop near a six-foot long four-foot wide pool of crystal clear water.
The young woman looked around the room she was in, and felt another chill, the green glow was coming from the floor and walls giving the room a creepy feeling. But something was overpowering the odd feeling, it was like something was calling to her, never being one to ignore her feelings; Tara crawled toward the pool of water, and looked down.
There was something lying under the water, and it just happened to move. Tara gasped and saw a mummy rise from the water, she tried to stand but could only fall back on her butt and scramble backwards.
A dried up decaying hand reached out and touched her cheek, and she heard her 'Tara' mumbled. The first thought that went through her mind was the demon legend, and that is what sent her legs to moving. Tara hurriedly stood, turned, and ran up the slippery incline to the top, not looking back once.
At the top she ran into Xander, and made him help her in trying to push the walls together, but it didn't work. Glancing around she saw the rock and hurried to it, she sat up one piece as Xander sat the other up, Tara grabbed a long vine and wrapped it around the rock to hold it in place. The walls moved together, just as a low howling floated up, causing the hair on the back of her neck to stand on end.
Tara grabbed Xander's hand and pulled him toward the entrance as fast as she could go, and seeing as how their grandmother had been teaching them everything she knew, it was fast -and not noticing the three jewels on the sword hilt glow red for a second.
The girl didn't stop until she was out the gate, where she hurriedly closed and locked it. Xander knew something had happened from the look on his sisters face, and for some reason, he really didn't want to know, but asked anyway.
Tara only spared him a sideways glace and continued staring at the cave. "Something's in there. And from the way it looked...let's just say, I don't wanna see it again!"
"Fine with me, I didn't like that place anyway...it gave me the creeps."
"Come on, let's get ready for school, and, umm, let's not mention this to grams, okay?"
"Fine by me." Xander agreed and took off in a sprint toward the house with Tara close behind. She'd only looked back once, and she could've swore she saw a pair of jade eyes watching her from the darkness.
At the bottom of the stairs and to the right, the leaves of a large tree sitting in the middle of a small pond begin to glow, and bright lights shot from the leaves into the water. The rainbow colored lights bounced off the water and shot into the sky, where they became one large beam of light.
Okay, tell me whatcha think. Should I continue? Or should I just stop right here?
To be forgotten is worse than death.
although i love the fact that xander and tara are related i don't think i have ever seen that before.
to see if i can understand it a bit better
(says the guy on the web site not me). But I think it's a cute little thing (specially in a picture that I've seen of it eating carrots, it made me go all... awww).
