Postby wiccachica » Thu May 27, 2004 8:35 am

Ange04… Yes. I am back. I thought about trying to sound mysterious about where I’ve been…something about being on a secret mission and having to kill anyone I tell…but truth be known…this is what actually occurred: While on vacation in Northern California, I was abducted by a tribe called the Imbitsybitsy who reside close to the edge of the Yosemite National Forest. It seemed they had mistaken me for their long-lost child Queen Umpatamihinee who had gone missing when at the age of five she lost a vital handhold on her caretaker at a place we call Disneyland and what the Imbitsy call Patunagarganana. Anyway…they kept me close to them… occupied with puppet shows, chocolate and showered me in copious amounts of gifts. I didn’t have a bad time with the Imbitsybitsy, mind you…but the mandatory nakedness was a bit much for me…especially earlier in the year when Northern California is quite cold… I hope that helps paint a picture of where I’ve been all this time and what I’ve been doing. But I’m glad to be back, and glad to see that the thread is still here. Stay tuned for a vote coming soon!

Mollyig… The Café is now open for business. I’ve cleaned and sanitized all of the dusty mugs and hired back the staff at double what they were making previously. I like that you caught the detective feel to this episode…I was driving through Hollywood and felt that one come over me… If you’ve ever been…you’d know what I mean. If you haven’t been…(come here at night when it’s pretty…if you don’t drive East of Sunset Blvd. and Vine St….) You like Wade’s T-shirt? Maybe the Café will set up a little merchandise store on the sidebar. “All-Powerful Minion” and “Hungry Puppy Donut” T-shirts. And a black shirt with the words: “Traitorous B-Cupped Bastards”…. emblazoned on the front… What do you think?

Grimaldi… Glad you loved the update…the pajamas…:sheep ...the T-shirt…(I’ll have to make you one) I missed being here…missed your point-blank responses…They highlight my day.

Gabbles… My apologies that I wasn’t here to welcome you to the thread earlier this year. (It prolly took you that long just to read all my long-winded drivel…and that’s sans the Late Shift) Welcome! I’m glad to have you here! (Does the dance of Welcome) Free coffee for you! (You DO drink coffee…right???)

Nope, I've never been to WollyHood, so will have to rely on your description - which I'm quite happy to do.

Thank god the Cafe has reopened. Withdrawals are bad. Evil, ugly things they be!! Do you not realize how difficult it is to find a decent cup o' java? :glasses

I'm just gonna grab a nice comfy seat in the corner with a grande, half-cap, set up my new iBook and catch some re-runs on my favorite channels.

Woman, u are da bomb! This is a spetacular fic! I just started reading it 2 nights ago, and well, I even decided to put off updating my own fic just so that I cud keep reading this one! *bows at the great writer* Woo Hoo! I'm celebrating the fact that ure back along with everyone else, tho I must say that I didn't know when u'd gone...have just discovered the Cafe, and I'm hooked! Kudos to u! Cheers!

Postby wiccachica » Fri May 28, 2004 4:27 pm

Sassy!!!! My Dove! It always amazes me that you have the time to even read my fic ONCE….oh wait…I know why…. (banging my Troll Hammer) Where’s my Sass fic(s)? Hm? Okay…rule number one is: I can leave off for a FEW (ahem) days…but NO HAITUS for the Sassy….NONE…nope…uh-uh…revolutions have begun over less…

Mollyig… Poor thing…having to rely on my description of my home town. (sigh) Well…I’ll try to make it sound more enchanting and magical than it is…

Kieli…LOL…your agency fee check is in the mail. Where have I been? I’ve been…. I’ve been… (heck…see yesterday’s Ange04 reply for where I’ve been) But believe me when I tell you I have missed you so very much! (though not your inflated Agent’s fees…how does a year of free mochas sound?)

Shuyaku… (using a towel to wipe down the coffee bar) Drinks are on me, Dear. Well…not ON me…but I’ll buy the house a round in your honor. I’m very glad to be back, and I am overjoyed at seeing you in the Café, sipping java once again. BTW…believe me…I am no stranger to the idea of Winna/Willa/Winnie/Wy/ etc. in a French Maid’s outfit… Don’t forget…Tara has already been in one in the original Late Shift.

ambersagoddess…Wonderful to see you Dearheart! We all have our little addictions I think (Wiccachica says as she sips the nice safe double shot mocha) Funny you should mention the Living Woman Network. I was just rereading that one and considering an update. Does psychic ability run in your family? (If it does, you prolly knew I was going to ask you that…)

Sheba… I never knew how nice it felt to be referred to as Da Bomb. (being the uber-Geek that I am) But I like it! I am so glad that you are enjoying this fic, but I feel a bit like an enabler for keeping a fellow writer from their craft. (clears throat) Get writing!

Very happy you’re hooked though. This one’s confusing but less so than the 400+ paged monster called The Late Shift.

Wiccachica! Moon of my Heart's Delight! Radiant Flower of the Smog-And-Traffic-Infested Wastelands! Was that a troll-hammer-sized hint to write you fic? In my defense, I must say I've been sick and I've been remodeling, and this is not a fun combination; however, I've been slowly plucking away at a new idea that is so chock full of awesome the muses will weep with envy. Or, y'know, they'll revoke my FWU (Fic Writer's Union) membership, and I'll be cast out into the streets with just the clothes on my back subject to ridicule and seltzer water in the face everywhere I go. As for time to read your fic - this is a pasttime so undeniably splendid and worthwhile how can I >not< have time to read your fic? The reread was really an excellent way to spend a sick day.

I agree with Sass, reading this fic (or should I say these fics) was a wonderful way to spend a few evenings and if I stayed up a little later than I should have it's all because of some fantastically paced writing and some really awesome, fun ideas.

I really do feel as though I'm watching TV - although what's on is a heck of a lot better than what's on normal TV. All the channels are fantastic but I'd have to say that my definite favourite is Futopia, Winna and Taryn are too cool for words. I love the dark feel of the fic, as I'm reading I continually picture the fic moving along at night, eerie blue lights and...skin tight costumes - hello! :blush

Happy writing Pippa, you're truly awesome for sharing these wonderful fics with the kittens!

The Living Woman Network

Part VIII

Fascination.

The two agents did not pursue the Volvo as it sped out of the parking garage.

No.

Instead, they walked far too casually towards their vehicle…and right past it… to a deeply shadowed spot near the back of the garage.

The darkness in this area was perfect for their means and seemed so thick that it held a life of its own.

Agent Mills and Agent Nepal bowed reverently to the inky darkness.

Anyone walking by would have thought that a set of patients had happened off the Psych ward…but they would not have noticed or cared. They were in the presence of the Great Darkness.

“ We lost her.” Agent Mills said to the gloom.

“ She used an Exordium cast to…” Nepal began.

(Fools!) The Shade hissed at them…cutting off their excuses. The darkness within writhed and shifted impatiently. Both men dropped to their knees on the cement, prostrated.

(Lower!) The Shade demanded.

Still shirtless the men slid forward onto their stomachs. Cheeks pressed against the seeping cold of the parking garage floor, hands clasped above their heads.

(I send my two finest warriors to bring Her to me, and they are thwarted by a parlor trick!)

“ We beg your forgiveness. We ask for another chance.”

“ She will be in our possession by daybreak…and the red-haired one will die by our hand.” Nepal promised piously at the floor.

The blackness, which had been shifting irritably, paused. The air around them grew thick with tension.

(You speak of a Red Haired one?) The Shade eased closer. (Tell me….tell me of her…)

“ There is a red-hair aiding her. I sensed that she too has the gift, but it is unrealized…She has great power… even coming free from a binding, Teresa was able to cast almost immediately…their combined force was enough to make the Exordium incapacitate us both.”

(Fascinating…) The Shade purred. It throbbed in the corner like a great black web of everything and nothingness entwined… capable of crushing them, or drinking them into oblivion at a whim.

(Bind HER again….and bring them both to me.)

“ What about the Red one?” Nepal asked.

(She is not a threat. Not YET. There is no reason to bind her at this time. Bring them both to me…ALIVE)

“ Yes. Your decree is our covenant.” The men said in unison. The Shade seemed to be contemplating this new turn of events.

( Fascinating….) It purred…pleased.

“ Fascinating.” Giles said over his cup of tea for the two-dozenth time. The three of them sat at Willa’s small table staring at one another. “ Fascinating.” He said again, setting his cup down and removing his rimless glasses to examine them thoroughly instead of looking at the ill-drawn replica of the symbol Willa had drawn. “A-And you say they made these markings on themselves in b-blood?”

“ On themselves or on each other…but…yes.”

“ In blood you say?”

“ Giles, I’m a doctor. I know blood when I see it.” Giles fiddled with the nosepiece on his specs.

“ I’ve never seen this symbol before. In fact I can safely say that it is from no book of supernatural…or NATURAL for that matter… that I have ever heard of…” He turned his attention to the mysterious blond who was now looking off into the living room with a particular sort of pointed disinterest.

“ Let’s get something straight, Giles. I don’t be….” Willa began.

“ Believe in all this hullabaloo…right, right…I’ve heard this all before…but if you’re saying what happened at the hospital earlier happened…” He challenged her with the raise of an eyebrow.

“ I can explain that.” Willa said too quickly. “ Two knocks on the head in one day and any person could see tiny little carousel horses trotting in line formation around their feet.

“ And the blood swathed men?” Giles asked directly.

“ Two perfectly normal morgue interns who’d fell in their homework and lost their way…” Willa said unconvincingly.

Teresa gave her an (are you crazy???) look and picked up her cup of tea.

“ Do you have anything to add to this?” Giles asked the blonde.

She looked at him, opened her mouth to speak, and looked perplexed…if only for a few seconds. Her pale hand crept up to grasp her throat. Her other hand struck the table with a fierceness that made the tea cups jump but not spill.

Her blue eyes filled with tears.

(Not again…not again…not again….)

“ What’s going on…are you all right?” Willa began…moving quickly to her side. Giles came slowly to his feet.

“Look at her throat, Willa.” He spoke in a hushed and hurried voice.

It seemed that the tender flesh around her throat showed the indentation of what Willa could only describe as an invisible binding of some kind.

Instead of panicking, the blonde looked into her eyes.

(They’re here…) She mouthed.

Willa wanted to tell her how that wasn’t possible. No way could these men have located her apartment so quickly…if at all…

But the chill that ran down her spine at the look of terror in this woman’s expression was enough to give her pause.

And the pause was just long enough to allow the sound of something heavy crashing against the door to her apartment. The door shuddered on its hinges…the plaster around the frame splintering.

“ What on Earth….” Willa said when she could catch her breath. Giles moved around the table and behind it…his cup of tea in his hand.

“ Maybe this Earth…but not in this realm….” He said. This was punctuated by another hit to the door. This one louder and more destructive than the first.

It was as if they were not trying to come through the door, but the wall itself. Being on the second floor on a complex overhanging a hill, there was nowhere to run.

Taryn blinked through tears of confusion and picked up a pencil from the table. She scribbled a word and pointed to it. Willa stared at the word for a second.

“ I don’t know what that word means!” Willa said urgently.

Teresa pointed at it again…insistently…as though their lives depended on it.

“ What do you want me to do?” Teresa reached out and gripped Willa’s hand tightly. Willa wasn’t sure if the fiery tingle was due to the blonde’s grip or something else, but it traveled up her arm to set fire to the synapses of her brain.

“ Ow!” Willa cried out. Teresa pointed again to the word... and made a motion to her mouth.

Giles looked over Willa’s shoulder at the word on the paper. He looked at Teresa for a moment…and then to Willa.

“ Say the word, Willa.” He said.

“ But what does it m….”

“ Just say it.”

The third strike from the outside was enough to dislodge door and frame in a puff of plaster, dust, and splinters…

The two agents from the hospital stepped inside…over the rubble…

They seemed nonplussed, and severely confident.

Giles stared at them as they crunched through the front wall of Willa’s apartment.

“ Say it now…” He muttered, concerned. Willa looked down at the paper. Teresa lifted Willa’s hand towards the two men.

Agent Mills and Agent Nepal stopped in the middle of the living room, looking strangely like pleasant half-naked door-to-door salesmen. They warily regarded the two women each with one hand upheld.

Teresa squeezed Willa’s hand a little tightly, prompting her.

“Saeptum!” She said. She was sure the word was Latin, but it was not something she was familiar with.

Willa would be hard pressed to deny the strange sensation that enveloped her for the briefest moment. It was like an electrical current had started at the tips of her toes and swept upwards to the very ends of her long hair. To every extremity in the same instant.

Teresa let her hand go as though shocked…

And Willa found that she couldn’t bring her hand down.

A shockwave of energy surged through her.

A brief moment of surprise and panic swept over the serene features of the two men…just before they were stopped…forcefully.

The wave hit them like a stealth demolition ball.

It sent them backwards….only to stop and held in mid flight.

And this was where they remained as Willa, Giles, and Teresa stared at them.

“ Do you want to tell me what that word means now, Giles?”

“ Er…Saeptum…to fence…or to…to capture…that’s… er…a rough translation….” He cleared his throat. “ That was…that was…very….GOOD, Willa…for an amateur….”

Teresa looked at Giles incredulously…then to Willa.

“ Still don’t believe in all this hullabaloo?” She asked, rubbing at her throat and looking at Willa with a strange mixture of awe and knowing.

“ I don’t…I don’t…” Willa was going to say that she didn’t believe in any of it…but how was she going to explain two men hovering in mid air in her living room? She shut her mouth quickly and just shook her head in denial.

“ Well…we need to go…before it wears off. They are going to be very…VERY unhappy.” Teresa said.

“ To say the least…”

Giles said walking across the room to examine the immobile men more closely.

“ Absolutely fascinating…” He said again under his breath.

TBC…….

Oh wow. Two updates in one week? And what great ones they were.

The Futopia was right on the key...Taryn finding herself driving to Winna's warehouse...that tight-costumed daredevil is addictive indeed.

And yay for a Living Woman's Network update. I'd missed those two characters.

So we have The Shade sending its two finest (synonym for incompetent? Not that I mind) warriors after Theresa and now Willa's on their capture list as well...I bet after her Saeptum spell she'll be on the binding list too.

I believe Giles said it best: "Absolutely fascinating..."

Yay for Wednesday night caffeine boosters!

Can the next one include a peek into an old haunted house on Oak Avenue, CA?

I wanna know if Willow and Tara will break the 100 year old curse by doing naughty stuff to each other with their tongues. Or would that be too explicit for network television? :S

Heh Heh Heh ... no one thickens a plot quite like you. How do you do that? What kind of spoon do you use to stir? What level of flame? Any special fuel I should know about? Just, y'know, curious.

I just don't have words for how impressive I find this thread (I'd say "fic" instead of "thread" but, y'know, it's MANY fics (ficii?), which is just one of the many reasons (reasonii?) I find this thread impressive).

And I know you haven't called for a vote, but I'm voting anyway. So there: for 'Flahsbackland' (because the word "zowie" has not appeared in my life often enough recently), 'Pacific Tides', and 'The Late Shift'. I'm not only voting without an actual vote being called, but I'm shamelessly and openly handing out a bribe. You will find it in the vignettes thread.

I'm with everybody else -- so glad you're back :bounce .

And if you're taking votes soon, I'd like to put one in for Futopia, just coz, well, Winna Gunn is the coolest and Taryn, well, she might just be the hottest! Oh, and Ryder, she's a little of both. Can't wait to see what they dress her up in next.

Keep up the great work!

Hey! I just found this fic and read it the whole way through. I started to panic when I saw that I was a few pages from the end and it was dated last year. Much to my relief, you have updated very recently. I am completely addicted to it and wish television had such channels. Please continue to update... I have to know what happens.

AND NOW A WORD FROM OUR SPONSOR

Actually....ANOTHER Letter from the Studio Council:

We, The Demons That Be (the true power behind most of our poorly plotted television line-ups and quite possibly EVERY bad reality show on the market these days) had made it our sole mission to reinstate our heroines into other television series and channels … we’ve tried to portray them as totally straight, highly acceptable, ‘non-inflammatory’ female lead characters.

We have failed. We know this. We have seen what this....this....Late night Viewing Room called the Cataclysm Café has done to the minds of readers young and old. It is unacceptable, and we here at the council have declared Cataclysm Café and all of its affiliate stations to be an affront to the natural order of bad television. No longer will we tolerate Love, adventure, hope, or angst (with the sole purpose of strengthening love).

We declare an end to the Cataclysm Café and all of its drivel. NO longer will we have to put up with the weakly plotted stream of babble that is the Late Shift.

We gleefully squelch the messages of self-acceptance and Love from fuzzy woodland creatures on the Children’s Broadcast station.

We popped the cork on that sappy show, The Beach.

And we DEFINITELY do not condone werewolves, vampires, skin-tight leather, boots, and night vision shades.

These shows and their ideals mark the downslide of our society. Better we have hour after relentless hour of shows allowing us to watch people being paid millions of dollars to live their reality so that we live none of our own!

We have pulled the plug on Cataclysm Café. If not for its terrible influence on its readers, but for making us learn how to spell Cataclysm!

And now, we have allowed a final farewell from the Founder and Owner of the Café: Pippa Wiccachica Francis O'Ryan-Trolloskovic...

Dear Café Goers,

It is with a heavy heart that I bid farewell to our sponsors, the Demons That Be, who have so graciously plotted against me and my little station from the get go. They have relentlessly kept me on my toes, censored the creativity of all of our writers, and berated me at every turn with mindless slander and foul language.

I will surely miss that.

Unfortunately for the Demons That Be, they have not won.

I have been working diligently on another sponsor for the Café, and have come up with something so obvious, that I shudder to believe I didn’t think of it before. A corporation we all know and love. Someone who endorses the love between our two heroines... and will help to do anything possible to see that they find their way to each other through any plot.

(Walking over to a big velvet curtain)

Ladies and gentlemen....may I present our new Sponsor.....

(Pulling the curtain away)

The Hungry Puppy INC.!!!

(Passes out T-shirts with a dog licking his chops over a bowl of doughnuts)

Free doughnuts and coffee for everyone!

Stay Tuned for the New Adventures of the Cataclysm Café and all of its channels...
