Part six

Postby Ginner WTluv » Mon Sep 02, 2002 3:52 pm

Phew, well, my computer's been taken away to be fixed, so i don't have one at the moment. But i managed to get ahold of my brother's today to write you guys an update. Sorry for the amount of time it took. Hopefully my computer will be back soon.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Part Six

The hotel room door flew open and Sam ran in, slamming and locking the door behind her. Leaning against it, the brunette tried to catch her breath, glancing up when a girl around the same age as herself emerged from the bathroom wearing a perplexed look.

Girl: Sam? What’s wrong?

Sam took a moment to answer, still trying to catch her breath.

Sam: I.... Walking.... He....

Girl: What? Did something happen with Faith?

The brunette took a deep breath and spoke again, hoping that this time she would make more sense.

Sam: I was walking back here.... When I heard a noise. I looked around, but I couldn’t see anything, so I just figured it was my mind playing tricks on me or something. Then, I heard it again.... And this guy I saw earlier at a bar walks out of an alleyway covered in blood and holding a knife.

The colour drained from the other girl’s face and she walked towards Sam, her face clouded with concern.

Girl: Are you okay? He didn’t hurt you, did he?

Sam took the other girl’s hand and smiled at her.

Sam: No, I’m okay. It kinda freaked me out though.

Girl: Are you gonna call the cops?

The brunette shook her head.

Sam: I don’t even know what he was doing.... But if anything’s reported.... I'll go to the cops then.

The redheaded girl nodded and moved to sit on the bed in the middle of the room, never taking her eyes off Sam.

Girl: How did it go with Faith?

Sam sighed heavily and sat down next to her friend.

Sam: She wasn’t at home, but some blonde chick answered the door, so I gave the letter to her and told her to give it to Faith.

Girl: Faith wasn’t there?

The girl sitting next to her shook her head.

Girl: So, after leaving Faith’s apartment, after finding she wasn’t there, you saw a guy in a dark alleyway covered in blood and holding a knife.... And you didn’t think that maybe....

She trailed off, her voice becoming filled with panic.

Sam: You don’t think....

Girl: I don’t know.

Sam shot up off the bed, becoming alarmed at the thought of Faith and the bloody stranger being connected.

Sam: I-I have to find her.

She started to leave when the redhead stopped her.

Girl: I’m coming with you.

Sam: No. I don’t want to risk you getting hurt.

Girl: I’m not letting you go alone, Sam.

Sam: But-

Girl: No buts. It’s later, god knows what kind of people are out roaming the streets now, and I’ll be damned if I’m gonna let you go out alone.

Sam looked at her. She knew the other girl wasn’t going to give in.

Sam: Okay, but you stay with me. Don’t wonder off.

Girl: That’s so not an issue.

Faith and Tara’s apartment

Buffy looked at the clock for what must have been the millionth time, before turning to look at the two equally worried girls sitting across from where she was pacing, wearing a hole in the carpet.

Buffy: I can’t stand it anymore, where the hell is she?!

Willow: I’m sure she’s okay, Buffy.

Buffy: No, something’s wrong. She told me she was going to talk to Sam.... That was five hours ago. She should have been back by now.

Buffy grabbed her jacket off the back of the chair and slipped it on.

Tara: W-what are y-you-?

Buffy: I’m going to look for her.

Willow: Buffy, it’s midnight.

Buffy: Exactly!

Willow: Well, we’re coming with you.

The distraught blonde was already out of the door though, so both Willow and Tara pulled on sweaters and quickly ran out after her.

Streets of Sunnydale

A thick blanket of darkness covered the town, the only light coming from the far off full moon and the few streetlights that were scattered across the sidewalk. If anyone had been around, they would have been shocked to find two girls roaming the shadowed streets and wondered just what they were doing walking around at midnight.

Sam and her redheaded companion walked quickly down the street, ever now and then calling out Faith’s name. They had been looking for a while now and hadn’t found the brunette as of yet. It was driving them both crazy. Sam was beside herself with worry now and if she didn’t find her sister soon, it was likely she’d have a complete breakdown, she was that worried.

Sam: Why can’t we find her?!

Girl: She might have gone back home, Sam. Maybe that’s why we can’t find her.

She just shook her head, confused. She didn’t know what to think.

Sam: Okay, okay.... we’ll look around for a bit longer, and then.... then if we can’t find her, we’ll go and see if she’s at home.

Outside Mutant Enemy

Buffy, Willow and Tara exited the club and once again found themselves in yet another alleyway. Buffy was going out of her mind with worry and Willow and Tara weren’t much better.

Buffy: We’ve been looking for ages, this is Sunnydale! There’s only so many places she can be!

Willow: Just calm-

Buffy: Don’t tell me to calm down, Will! Faith could be lying in a gutter somewhere and I can’t find her! She could be in pain, calling out for me-

Tara: Buffy....

Buffy: Just like that, oh my god....

And the floodgates opened. Buffy burst into tears, the thought of Faith being hurt causing her whole body to shake. Tara walked forward and tried to hug her friend, but Buffy took a step backwards, shaking her head and wiping away the tears.

Buffy: No.... We have to find her.

Tara: M-maybe she w-went back to the apartment.

Willow: Yeah, we should check the apartment.

Buffy: O-okay.

So they set off, checking every street as they went, calling out the name of the missing brunette but finding nothing.

Willow: Faith!

Tara: I don’t think she’s out here.

Willow: Well then, she must be at the apartment.

Tara: I hope she is.

They both looked over at Buffy.

Willow: So do I.

Finally, Faith’s apartment came into view, but just before they reached it, two girls almost collided with them.

Buffy: Hey!

Sam: Sorry!

Buffy’s head snapped up at the familiar voice.

Buffy: Sam?

The brunette looked up and found herself looking at the girl she’d given the letter to earlier that night.

Sam: Buffy, right?

Buffy: Yeah. Is Faith with you?

Sam shook her head.

Sam: No. We’ve been out looking for her for ages-

Buffy: We?

The redhead stepped out from behind Sam and waved weakly.

Girl: Hi.

Buffy: Oh.... Have you check at her apartment?

Sam: No, we were just going to-

But Buffy was already walking towards Faith’s apartment and after a second, the four remaining girls followed her. Emotions were high at this point. After searching for well over an hour and finding nothing, the worst possible scenarios were starting to form in the girls’ mind. Sam and Buffy were clearly the most worried out of them all, almost breaking down into tears whenever they thought of the missing brunette. Faith could be laying dead somewhere and they’d missed her. She could have been kidnapped and was being tortured at that very moment. A little far fetched maybe, but Buffy didn’t think so. Every possible thing that could have happened was racing through Buffy’s mind and she began walking down the driveway at the front of the apartment. She stopped dead when she saw a figure standing in front of the door.

Buffy: Faith?

The former missing brunette turned and smiled at Buffy, dropping her keys before bending down to pick them up and falling over.

Buffy: Are you drunk?!

Faith: Drunk? Naw.... Drunk-drunk is such a s-strong word. I’m more.... Whatsa word.... Merry, yeah.... M-merry.

Suddenly, all of Buffy’s panic turned into anger.

Buffy: You were out drinking? All this time, you were out drinking?!

Faith’s face twisted into a drunken frown as she picked herself up off the floor, just as Willow, Tara, Sam and the other girl walked down the driveway.

Faith: Hey, hey.... Ch-chill.

And that was it, Buffy lost it.

Buffy: Chill! You’re telling me to chill! Do you have any idea how worried I was?!

Faith didn’t even hear the question, she was too busy looking past Buffy and at the girl standing next to Sam.

Faith: Jess?

Jess: Hi, Faith.

Faith: Jess?! What the hell are you....

She trailed off, realising she already knew the answer.

Faith: Sam.... You stayed together?! After what you did to me, you stayed together?! You know I love her! I can’t believe you!

Faith pushed herself off the apartment wall and lunged at Sam, only to find herself being thrown back down to the floor by the person she least expected. Buffy. Faith looked up at her, a confused expression clouding her face. Buffy just glared back down at her, eyes filled with tears and she ripped something off that dangled around her neck and threw it at the drunken brunette, before turning and walking back down the driveway. Faith took the fallen item into her hand and held it up so she could see it. It was a necklace she’d given Buffy when they’d first got together. Closing her eyes, she held it close. Tara leaned closer to Willow and whispered in her ear.

Tara: I’m gonna go after Buffy, see that sh-she gets home okay. Can you take care of Faith?

Willow nodded.

Willow: Sure.

Tara, Sam and Jessica turned and walked away from the apartment, leaving Willow to tend to a confused, drunken, and distraught Faith.

Wow!! Great update! U scared me 4 a minute there I was leanin towards the idea of that dude chopping up Faith w/ the knife! Which was soo not good at all! But knowin she was ok was good!

But drunk, God I would totally be mad at her too! And the shocker w/ Jess, My God! And Faith sayin how she was in love w/ her! Grrr! Made me mad! I can't believe Sam brought her w/ her! But Leave it to Will and Tara to pick up the pieces!

Well it was an awesome update! I can't wait 4 more! :)

Willow: We can come by between classes. Usually I use that time to copy over my class notes with a system of different colored pens. But it's been pointed out to me that that's, you know... insane.

Oh conflict, very evil Jen ;) its great how Willow and Tara are there to support their friends but i'd say it wasn't the smartest thing Faith's ever done. Very nice twist bringing Jess into the story, looking forward to see where you take this new development. Glad to see that the stranger hadn't brought harm to any of our girls :)

Ooooh, so much conflict. Glad Faith's not hurt, though drunk sometimes isn't much better. Throwing Jess into the mix certainly spices things up, I hope Buffy's not too hurt.

Hey all. :) Glad you liked the update.... this part was a bit of a streatch. I wanted a bit of a bust up.... but then there was the trouble of deciding who it was going to happen with. Given all the bad stuff that's happened to Willow and Tara (Which if you weigh it out, a lot more shit has happened to them than any other couple on the show.... i'm still bitter:grin ), i went for the other obvious couple. Had to do it carefully though, i didn't want it happening over something stupid.... but apartently i did okay:) (was never too good with break ups)

Snuggle - Yeah. It hurt Buffy. We'll see just how much in the next update and yes. Sam bringing Jess with her after what happened.... not the best idea, but there is a reason for it.

Quirky - That's what i was going for. Tried to get everyone thinking it had something to do with our Stranger. But no, it didn't. You never know.... he may be a good guy. Then again.... he might not be;)

Z;) - Me? Evil? I'm not the one who end an update just where it's getting interesting;) Just kidding:grin Yeah, Willow and Tara will always be there for their friends. No matter what's going on. It's just the kind of peeps they are:grin

Hart - I'm glad you like the story and my Faith:) I always have people telling me they like my Faith.... big compliment if you ask me :grin And yes, she will be in trouble. The Buffster isn't gonna be too happy with her.

Thanatopsis - Getting drunk was a very bad idea. And Buffy is hurt.... like i said, you'll see how much in the next update. But, when have i ever given my faithful readers an unhappy ending?;)

Well, i still have no computer so i'm not too sure when the next update will be up.... pretty soon though, i'm hoping. I'm swamped with work, but i will finish this fic if it kills me;) I still have a load more i want to do with this, so it looks as if it's gonna be another painfully long installment.... hopefully i won't bore you all to death by the time this trilogy is done;)

Thanks for reading. It means a lot to me, knowing that there are some people out there who like what i write :grin

I tried talking to the tree.... but it wooden listen....

Courtney: Can she yell?

Torrence: We'll try an oldie.... awsome, oh wow, like totally freak me out, i mean right on! The Torro's sure are number 1.

Part Seven - 3 days later

All was quiet in the apartment. Tara was out shopping with Willow and Faith was lying on her bed, staring at the ceiling almost as if she was in a trance. It had been three days since she had made the fatal mistake of lying to Buffy, going out drinking instead of going to talk to Sam like she said she would, and she hadn’t seen the blonde since then. She knew she’d hurt Buffy by lying, but she honestly hadn’t meant to. In fact, she’d gotten half way to Sam’s hotel before she realised she couldn’t do it and stumbled into Riley’s Place. She hadn’t talked to Sam in four years, and after what had happened, she was finding it hard to just forgive and forget.

Faith couldn’t remember everything about that night, but she remembered Jess being there, everyone else too, baring Xander and Oz, and there had been shouting, then Buffy leaving and then vomiting. Not fun.

Faith sighed and reached into her pocket. Taking out the necklace she’d given Buffy, she held it up so she could see it.

I really messed up....

Faith knew that. She knew she should have just gone back to the apartment after deciding she couldn’t talk to Sam. She knew she’d broken Buffy’s trust and she knew she’d messed things up with the person she loved. What she didn’t know, was why.

Buffy’s house

Buffy was lying on the couch, staring into space, when he mother entered the room. Noticing her daughter’s pained expression, Joyce stopped in front of the sofa and waited for Buffy to acknowledge her. When she didn’t, Joyce spoke up.

Joyce: Buffy, are you okay?

She didn’t get an answer.

Joyce: Buffy?

Buffy: Huh?

Joyce: Are you okay?

Buffy: Yeah. Fine.

Joyce: Ah yes, because your good mood is just shining off you.

Buffy smiled weakly, and sat up.

Buffy: Faith and me.... we broke up.

Joyce’s face fell and she frowned, sitting down next to her daughter.

Joyce: What happened?

Buffy sighed and looked at her mother.

Buffy: I don’t know.... it happened kinda fast. Her sister-

Joyce: Sam?

Her daughter nodded. Buffy had told Joyce about Faith and Sam, and what had happened between Sam and Faith’s girlfriend and the time, Jessica, so Joyce knew who Buffy was talking about.

Buffy: Sam came round to Faith’s apartment the other day, but Faith wasn’t there, so Sam left a letter with me. After I gave it to Faith, she read it and said she’d go and talk to Sam. She promised she would. She knew how her hurt over all of it was hurting me.... that when she hurts, I hurt, so she promised me she’d go and talk to Sam. She left....said she was going to go and sort things out....after five hours, she still wasn’t back. I was so worried.... I didn’t know where she was and I was so afraid. I just kept thinking of the worst possible things....

Buffy let out a shaky breath, memories of how she felt that night came flooding back.

Buffy: I went out looking for her, Willow and Tara came with me. We looked everywhere and still nothing. I was going out of my mind, kept thinking that she could be lying somewhere, dying and I couldn’t find her. After about an hour, Willow and Tara convinced me to go and check back at the apartment and when we got back there.... Faith was standing outside, trying to get the door open. She’d been out drinking. Not talking to Sam liked she’d promised. She lied to me. She stood there and promised me that she’d talk to Sam.... and....

Buffy trailed off, tears threatening to engulf her. She was angry at Faith. Upset that the other girl had lied to her, caused her to worry to the point that she broke down in tears. Had her, Willow and Tara running around the town, panicked, looking for her.

Joyce: Have you spoken to her since?

Buffy shook her head. She hadn’t even seen Faith since. Didn’t want to talk to her in case it made things worse. Obviously, Buffy still loved Faith deeply. You can’t just fall out of love with someone, no matter what they do. But the trust was gone. The fact that Buffy thought they could always talk about everything with each other, well, she just didn’t think that anymore. There was something Faith wasn’t tell Buffy. They had talked about everything involving Sam and Jess, or so Buffy thought, and Faith seemed willing to talk things over with her sister, at first, but then she changed her mind. Something made her do that and something didn’t add up. Buffy just wished she knew what it was so she could help Faith.

Joyce: Don’t you think you should?

Buffy: What for? If she wanted to talk to me, she would have called or come round.

Buffy flopped back down, her head resting on the arm of the couch, her legs stretched across her mother’s lap.

Joyce: You don't know everything that happened that night, Buffy.

Buffy: I know enough.

There was a short silence before anyone spoke again.

Buffy: She’s still pining after Jessica anyway.

Joyce: What?

Buffy: Sam must have brought Jess back with her, god knows why. When Faith saw her and realised Sam and her were still together after what had happened.... Faith flipped. She started screaming at Sam, telling her and probably the rest of the neighbourhood, that she still loves her.

Joyce: Oh....

That hurt Buffy most. Hearing the person she loved saying she was in love with someone else. It had hurt like hell. So much, she’d cried herself to sleep that night. Sighing, Joyce looked at Buffy. All the loved and understanding in the world, shining in her eyes.

Joyce: I think you should talk to her.

Faith and Tara’s apartment

Willow and Tara had arrived back a little over an hour ago and they were still trying to coax Faith out of her bedroom.

Willow: You can’t stay in here forever.

Faith: Watch me.

The brunette continued to stare blankly at the ceiling.

Tara: I got cookies....

Nothing.

Willow: We rented Bring It On....

A twitch.

Tara: Lots of scantily clad women....

Willow: Cheerleaders....

At that, Faith sat up and rubbed her eyes.

Faith: I know you guys are just trying to held.... but I just don’t feel like moving right now.

Tara: I-I don’t think staying in here is going t-to help, Faith.

Faith: Probably not, but....

She sighed, sadly.

Faith: I just need to be alone for a while.

Willow and Tara nodded and began to walk out of the room. Willow stopped in the doorway and turned back to Faith.

Willow: Are you gonna be okay?

Faith: Honestly?

The brunette looked at her friend.

Faith: I don’t know.

Outside

The Stranger stood outside the apartment, a little off to the side so he wouldn’t be seen. He tossed his cigarette to the ground and stamped it out, watching through the window as a fresh wave of tears took over Faith. He shook his head.

This just won’t do. Not at all.

Taking one last look at the crying girl, he walked away. The brunette’s pain surrounding him and the god of his brain slowly turning, forming a plan.

Hopefully Buffy and Faith will talk soon. Seems Faith doesn't remember the whole issue of saying she still loved Jess. That can't be good either. And the mysterious stranger is still around, still wondering about him.

Part Eight

Faith and Tara’s apartment

It was quiet. Unusually so. Faith had finally left the comforts of her bedroom and gone out for a walk, saying she wanted to be by herself for a bit. So, Tara was alone. Or she would have been if Willow hadn’t been in the apartment with her. The redhead was in the bathroom, fixing her wind-blown hair, when Tara walked in.

Tara: Sweetie, it looks fine.

Willow: It’s a mess.

Her girlfriend continued to fiddle.

Tara: No it isn’t.

Willow: It is.

Tara: I don’t think it is. Then again, what do I know? I’m only your girlfriend, the person who gets to see you everyday, when you hair is a mess and when it isn’t, like today. Heck, I’m the one who messes it up most of the time, but I guess that doesn’t mean anything.

Sarcasm dripped off every word that came out of the blonde’s mouth, but Willow didn’t seem phased by it.

Willow: Nope.

Suddenly, something freezing cold hit Willow’s back and she spun around, trying to find out what it was and succeeding. Tara was standing there, smirking, holding the shower head in her hand.

Tara: What?

Willow: Don’t you “what” me, missy.

Willow’s squeal filled the apartment, as Tara squirted her with the shower head again.

Willow: Tara!

The blonde’s smirk turned slightly more evil as she stepped closer to Willow. Her girlfriend took a step back, pressing up against the sink, and let out a nervous giggle.

Willow: No, Tara, sweetie.... you wouldn’t want to do anything you’d regret, would you?

Tara: Oh no, of course not.

Willow let out a relieved sigh.

Tara: But I’m not going to regret this.

Tara turned the shower head on full and completely soaked the redhead. Willow screamed and ran out of the bathroom, almost slipping on the wet floor. Tara laughed, dropped the shower head and ran out after her. Her girlfriend quickly scampered behind the sofa, in the hope that Tara wouldn’t be able to get to her.

Willow: Tara, Tara.... don’t.

The blonde sauntered over to stand in front of the sofa Willow was hiding behind and smiled her best “innocent little girl” smile.

Tara: Don’t what?

Willow: Do whatever you’re planning on doing.

Tara: I’m not planning on doing anything.

Tara moved around the side of the sofa grinning, as she watched Willow quickly run to the opposite side. A smirk crept onto the blonde’s lips as she had an idea.

Tara: Aww, is my poor little baby scared of her big bad girlfriend?

She heard her girlfriend whimper and Willow started to back away from the couch. Tara put her hand in her pocket and felt around for her mobile phone, but doing it so Willow didn’t know what she was doing. Finding the right button, she pressed it and took her hand back out of her pocket. Seconds later, the phone in the kitchen began to ring and Willow’s head turned in the direction of the other room. Seeing her chance, Tara jumped up onto the sofa, grabbed Willow and pulled her up. Then, she pushed them both down onto the couch, spinning them around first so she landed on top of the redhead.

Willow: Oof! Tara! The phone!

Tara grinned and pulled her phone out of her pocket. Willow read what it said on the screen: Calling.... Faith Home, and scowled at her girlfriend.

Willow: You’re mean, do you know that?

Tara: I’m not mean.... just a little evil.

Out of the blue, Tara started tickling the smaller girl beneath her, who let out a yelp and started giggling uncontrollably.

Willow: Tara!

More giggling.

Willow: Let.... me.... up!

But the blonde continued her assault on Willow’s ribs and tummy, grinning.

Tara: Tell me your hair isn’t a mess.

Willow couldn’t, she was having a hard time breathing, let alone talking. Giggling, Tara moved her hands away from the redhead’s tummy and pinned her girlfriend’s arms above her head, leaning in close.

Tara: Say it.

Willow: No.

Tara: Willow....

Tara practically growled out the redhead’s name, sending shivers down Willow’s spine. Willow squirmed around beneath Tara, trying to escape, before Tara started tickling her again.

Tara: I’m not letting you go until you say it.

Willow: Fine!

The blonde stopped tickling her and looked down at Willow, expectantly.

Willow: My hair isn’t.... well, wasn’t, messy. Now, after that, I’m not too sure.

Tara: Good girl.

Tara grinned, but she didn’t moved. Willow looked up at her, frowning.

Willow: Uh, aren’t you gonna move?

Tara: Do you want me to?

The gleam in Tara's eyes told Willow just what the blonde was playing at and she swallowed, hard.

Willow: Um, I.... Uh.

Tara leaned in even closer, so her and the other girl’s noses were almost touching and spoke slowly.

Tara: Do you want me to?

Willow opened her mouth, but no sound came out and for a moment, she forgot how to speak. So, she just looked at Tara, unable to answer.

Tara: Well, if you’re not going to answer.

Tara pulled back and started to get up, when she felt Willow’s now unpinned arms wrap themselves around her middle and pull her back down.

Willow: D-don’t. Don’t move.

The blonde tried not to grin as she saw the stricken look on the redhead’s face when she moved to get up.

Tara: And why not?

Willow didn’t answer, she could speak. So, instead, she answered the only way she could and moving her arms up around Tara's neck, she pulled the blonde down and kissed her passionately. Shocked, Tara didn’t react at first, but soon melted into the kiss. She settled herself on top of Willow, not planning on moving any time soon, and sighed contentedly as the kiss continued. Reaching up, Tara buried her hand in her girlfriend’s fire-red hair, pulling her even closer. As the kiss intensified, Willow’s hands roamed Tara’s back, leaving a trail of fire wherever her fingers touched, finally resting on the bottom of Tara's back and she began tugging at the bottom of the blonde’s shirt. Tara pulled back from the kiss, gently tugging on Willow’s lower lip as she did so. She looked down at her girlfriend, her normally pale blue eyes smouldering, and spoke.

Tara: Faith’s gonna be home soon.

Willow: So?

Willow smiled playfully and pulled Tara down again, into a hungry kiss. Tara knew she should probably pull away and move this little escapade into the bedroom, but for some reason, she really didn’t want to.

The Mall.

Buffy was sure she would have gone crazy if she’d had to stay in her house for much longer. So, with some extra money her mom had given her, she’d set off to The Mall. Browsing through the large collection of gorgeous leather coats, she sighed.

I’m never going to be able to afford one, so why am I torturing myself by looking?

Placing the jacket she was admiring back on the rack, she left the shop and collided with someone who’d been standing outside, sending them both to the floor.

Buffy: Oh god, I’m so sorry!

She looked up and found a man sprawled out across from her, smiling. The Stranger.

Stranger: Oh, it’s okay. Here, let me help you.

He stood up and held his hand out for Buffy, who took it and smiled gratefully. He’d been waiting outside the shop for her since she’d gone in. She stood up and brushed herself down.

Buffy: Thanks.

Stranger: It’s quiet alright.

He watched as Buffy’s face fell, knowing what she was thinking, and saw this as his chance.

Stranger: Hey, you look like you could use a friend right now.... how about I buy us both a coffee?

Buffy: Um, I don’t....

She trailed off. She didn’t know this guy and didn’t usually just go out for coffee with someone she’d just crashed into, so her reply was going to be: I don’t drink coffee.

Could that have been any more lame?

But she stopped. For some reason, Buffy wanted to go for coffee with him. She didn’t even know him and yet, she felt she could talk to him. Over coffee of course.

Buffy: Sure.

Espresso Pump: A little later

The Stranger and Buffy were sat near the back of the Espresso Pump, sipping mochas and talking like they’d been friends for years. Without thinking twice about it, Buffy had poured her out to the man and gotten all emotional at the same time.

Stranger: Cheer up, love.

He handed her a tissue and she took it, wiping away the tears.

Stranger: I’m sure she didn’t mean it.

They’d been talking about Faith and what had happened that night. The Stranger already knew of course, but he didn’t want Buffy to know that.

Buffy: Then why would she say it?

Stranger: That’s the influence of alcohol for you.

Buffy: But she lied to me.... and that was before she had a drink.

Stranger: Well.... are you sure you know what happened that night? Maybe she did go to her sister’s, but decided it was too much for her to handle and went for a drink to settle her nerves, but one drink turned into two, then three and so on. You know what alcohol can do to you. Mess you around. Get you saying all kind of wacky things.

Buffy: But....

She trailed off. What he’d said made sense.

Buffy: You don’t think she meant it?

The Stranger shook his head.

Stranger: From what you’ve said, I don’t think she would ever hurt you deliberately.

Buffy: I didn’t think she would either.

Stranger: Well.... I really think you should talk to her and get this sorted out because, no offence, you look miserable.

Buffy: Then I look just as bad as I feel.

Faith and Tara's apartment

All Faith could hear when she walked in through the front door was giggling and knew straight away that Willow and Tara were there. The giggling, and certain other noises, were coming from the bedroom, so it was easy for Faith to guess what was going on.

Well, I’m glad someone’s having fun.

Sighing, she walked into the kitchen and made herself a cup of tea. Something she’d started drinking without really realising. She sat down at the table and let her head fall forward onto its surface.

Maybe if I just die here.... really quietly, no one with notice.

A loud moan came from Tara's bedroom and without even glancing up, Faith picked a glass up off the table and threw it out of the kitchen. It hit the bedroom door right in the middle. Moments later, Willow emerged from the bedroom, wearing nothing but the bed sheets.

Willow: Um.... hi?

She looked around the sitting room, but saw nothing, so she walked into the kitchen and found Faith sitting there with her head resting on the table.

Willow: Faith, you’re home.

Faith: Can’t put anything past you.

Willow rolled her eyes and walked further into the room, sitting down across from Faith.

Willow: Are you okay?

Faith lifted her head to look at her friend.

Willow: God Faith, you look like crap.

The brunette huffed and put her head back on the table.

Faith: Thanks Willow, just what I wanted to hear.

Willow: Sorry.... but you really do.

Faith: Are you on a compliment diet or something?

Willow frowned and looked down at the top of Faith’s head.

Willow: What’s wrong?

The brunette sighed and lifted her head again.

Faith: What do you think?

She ran her fingers through her hair and let out a frustrated groan.

Faith: Could my life be any worse? I mean really?

Willow: Faith.... come on. It’s not all bad.

Faith: What good thing do I have going for me? I’m not going to college, my fault, the person I love hates me, my fault again, my life stinks.

Willow: At least your heart wasn’t ripped out by snarling zombie dogs.

Faith: Funny, it feels like it was.

Willow: You haven’t been killed by an escaped, psychotic mental patient.

Faith: I might as well have been.

Willow frowned, she was struggling now.

Willow: At least your large collection of movies featuring cheerleaders hasn’t been stolen.

Faith: Okay, a plus.

Willow: Oh, and you still have Freddy.

Faith: Yeah, ‘cept he’s headless now.

Willow: What?

Faith: Headless.

Willow: Who? What? When?

Faith: Me. Upset. Yesterday.

Willow: Oh.

Faith: Lets just face it.... I mess up. It’s what I do. I’ve been doing it my whole life. It’s never gonna change. I mess everything up. My family, my friends, my relationships.... funny thing is, I regret this most of all and I’ll probably never get a chance to tell Buffy how sorry I am. I’ll be lucky if she ever lets me see her again.

Their conversation was cut short when there was a knock at the apartment door. Not in the mood for any persistent salesmen, Faith got up, answered the door and started talking, without even looking up, before the person outside got a chance to.

Faith: I don’t need any stake knives, I don’t need a super-powered vacuum cleaner, I don’t think my curtains would look better in red and no, I don’t want a subscription to The Watch Tower.

She tried to close the door, when the person outside put their foot in the way, stopping her.

Faith: Look, you either get your foot out of my door or you lose your teeth.

Buffy: Wow, talk about butch.

Faith’s head shot up.

Faith: Buffy.

Buffy: Dam, this invisibility cloak must be on the frizt.

Part Nine: The Talk

Postby Ginner WTluv » Tue Sep 10, 2002 3:29 pm

Okay, first off, i wanna thank everyone for the feedback. I love you guys :grin

Secondly, The Stranger will probably be revealing his identity in the part 10 or 11, so.... get your guess in as to who is his;)

Thridy, i know the last few parts have been kinda centred on Buffy and Faith, But lots of Willow and Tara fun to come. I promise. :D

I still have a lot to do on this fic, so it looks as if it's gonna be another long one;)

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Part Nine

She felt as if the wind had been knocked out of her. Faith just stood there, looking at Buffy as if she’d never seen a girl before. Finally, she found her voice.

Faith: Buffy.

The other girl smiled, slightly.

Buffy: You already said that.

Faith: Oh, yeah, right.

They stood there for a moment, not saying anything, until Buffy took a deep breath and spoke again.

Buffy: We need to talk.

Faith nodded and stepped aside to let Buffy in. The blonde walked into the sitting room and was instantly greeted by moaning. She turned to look at Faith and arched an eyebrow. Faith shook her head and closed the front door.

Faith: I leave them alone for thirty seconds and they’re back at it.

She walked through the living room and opened Tara’s bedroom door, just in time to see Willow’s head appear from under the covers.

Willow: Jeez, don’t you knock?

Faith: It’s my apartment. So, can you two keep it down? Buffy’s here?

Willow: She is?

Faith: Yes, so can you guys.... ?

Tara: We’ll be good.

Faith almost laughed out loud when she saw the cheeky grin on Tara’s face, which simply said: Good? What’s that?

Faith: Thank you.

Faith closed the bedroom door and walked back into the sitting room. She noticed that Buffy had sit down, so she sat across from her and began fiddling with the bar on the necklace she was wearing. They both looked up at each other and began talking at the same time. Buffy giggled nervously and lowered her head, while Faith grinned an apologised for cutting across Buffy.

Faith: Sorry.

Buffy: Are you?

She wasn’t talking about Faith cutting across her now. Buffy lifted her head again and looked at the girl across from her. The sadness she felt in her heart showing in her eyes and flowing into her voice. Faith looked at her, feeling the sadness Buffy was feeling wash over her. It was killing her feeling all of Buffy’s pain and knowing she’d been the one who’d caused it. Her eyebrows knitted together and she leaned forward in her chair.

Faith: Yes. I am. Very. God, you don’t know how sorry. I kept thinking: Well, maybe if I just explain, but I wouldn’t have been able to explain very well, because I don’t remember that much, and-

Buffy: Faith. You’re babbling.

Faith: Oh. Um, what can I say? Willow’s contagious.

Buffy smiled, Faith was cut when she babbled. Then she realised what the brunette had said.

Buffy: Wait.... you don’t remember?

Faith: No, not really.

Willow: What do you remember?

Faith sighed.

Faith: I just want you to know, I never meant to lie to you, Buffy. I’d never do anything to hurt you.... not on purpose.

Buffy: I know.

Faith: That night, I don’t know, I wasn’t thinking clearly. When I told you I was going to talk to Sam, I fully intended on going to talk to her.... but I got half way there.... and I just couldn’t do it.

Buffy: But why?

The brunette looked at Buffy, frowning.

Faith: Why? Did you some how miss me telling you that she slept with the girl who I was dating at the time?

Buffy: I know that, but I thought you were going to forgive her.

Faith: I never said I was going to forgive her.

Buffy: But, I thought-

Faith: Look, Buffy, you don’t-

Buffy: Then explain it to me.

Faith let out a sigh and ran her fingers through her long, dark hair. She looked at Buffy and tried desperately to find the right words.

Faith: Before we started dating, Jessica and I had been friends for a while. Sam was the one who introduced me to her. We’d been friends for about three months when I realised I was falling for her. About two months after that, I couldn’t take it anymore and told her how I felt. She was quiet for ages afterwards.... I didn’t know what to think and I one point, I almost got up and left.

She let out a small laugh.

Faith: I was so afraid and scared that she wouldn’t feel the same, wouldn’t ever want to see or speak to me again after that. It seemed like had come and gone by the time she said anything and when she did.... she told me she felt the same. I remember, I almost cried with relief.

Buffy shifted in her seat, a little uncomfortable about hearing Faith talk about this, but she knew she needed to hear it.

Faith: I was afraid she would reject me. Kept telling myself she would, so that the fall wouldn’t be as hard when she did, but she didn’t and I don’t think I expected that. Then when I realised she’d told me she felt the same.... I didn’t think it was possible to be that happy. I was in love with her. She was my first. My first girlfriend, first.... everything. I loved Jess.... and Sam took her from me. My own sister, my blood, took her away from me. It hurt.... it hurt so much. It was hard to dismiss the feelings I had for her. It didn’t just happen over night. Feelings as strong as that don’t just disappear.

She paused.

Faith: Or go poof, as Willow would say.

That got a smile out of Buffy.

Faith: I just.... I don’t think I’ve gotten over it. The betrayal, the lies....

Buffy: Do you still love her?

Faith: I guess I still have some feelings for her, but not love. I’m in love with someone else now. Someone who I don’t ever want to lose. Someone who I can’t bare being away from.

Faith stopped when she saw the uncomfortable look on the blonde’s face and became panicked for a moment.

Faith: What’s wrong?

Buffy: Faith.... what do you remember about that night?

Faith: Um, well, like I said, I started walking to Sam’s, but got half way there and I just lost my nerve. Couldn’t do it. So, I decided to go for a drink to settle my nerves. I don’t know why I didn’t just come back.... bottom line is, I knew this was hurting you.... seeing me sad. I didn’t want that, so I was determined to go and sort things out with Sam. But, as I drank, the feeling didn’t go away, so I kept on drinking, hoping that eventually it would.... but it didn’t. Last thing I remember is hovering over the toilet, puking my guts up.

Buffy: Nice visual.

Buffy looked at her.

Buffy: That’s all you remember?

Faith nodded.

Faith: Well, that and you being there and uh.... well, you know.

Buffy: Yeah.

They sat looking at each other for a moment, both thinking and feeling the same things.

Faith: So, you um, feel like filling in some of the blanks?

Buffy shifted in her seat again, how was she going to explain this?

Buffy: Well, me, Willow and Tara went out looking for you after you didn’t come home. We looked everywhere, but couldn’t find you. I was so worried....

Faith looked down at her hands, guiltily, as Buffy continued.

Buffy: After about an hour, Willow said we should go back and check to see if you’d come home. Sam and Jessica had been out looking for you too, I don’t know why. We got back and you were standing outside, trying to get the door open. I’ll admit, I was angry at you for going out drinking, but I didn’t know the full story then. Anyway, you were pretty hammered and when you saw Sam and Jessica, you went mental. Started shouting, asking them how they could have stayed together after what happened and how....

She trailed off, feeling every emotion imaginable hit her at once, as she remembered Faith’s words. Meanwhile, the brunette was looking at her, more than a little confused.

Faith: How what?

Buffy lifted her head and Faith saw the tears shinning in the blonde’s eyes. She knew whatever she’d said had hurt the blonde and that pained her more than anything in the world.

Buffy: You.... you said you still loved Jessica.

Faith: I what?

Faith sounded truly shocked. She would never say that, it wasn’t true. She didn’t love Jessica.

Faith: Buffy, no. No. I don’t. Not now, not after what she did.... I could never love her like I did. Not now. I don’t love Jess.... I love you.

Buffy: Then why did you say it?

Faith: I don’t know. Please Buffy, you have to believe me.

Buffy: I.... I don’t know anymore....

Buffy got up to leave, but Faith stopped her, grabbing the blonde by the arm.

Faith: Please believe me.... I can’t lose you over this. I won’t let you go. I can’t. I didn’t mean it and I don’t know why I said it.... probably the drink. You know, alcohol makes you say wacky things....

Buffy suddenly had a flashback of The Stranger and what he’d said. It was as if he knew what Faith was going to say when she’d talked to him.

Weird

She turned around to look at Faith, she could see in the brunette’s eyes that she meant what she was saying.

Faith: Please.... don’t leave me.... I need you, Buffy. Please.

As a tear slid down Faith’s cheek, something inside Buffy clicked and everything fell back into place. She’d felt lost for the past few days, but she’d been found. Faith. The brunette standing in front of her was the key to her happiness, her soul, Buffy knew that, and as their lips met, Faith unlocked the door and Buffy was filled with happiness once again. It flowed through her, just as it had done before, overpowering her, making her week. But it was the best feeling in the world and as Faith’s arms surrounded her, she felt safe again. Whole. Complete. Loved. That’s how Faith made her feel. All at once. That’s what love felt like. That’s what kissing the person you love made you feel. Complete.

Tara’s bedroom

Inside the room, Willow and Tara had their ears pressed up against the door, listening to the conversation in the other room. When everything went silent, they turned to each other and grinned.

Tara: You think they made up?

Willow: That or they killed each other.

Willow giggled at her own joke.

Willow: Come on, this is Buffy and Faith we’re talking about. If they aren’t together, they’re lost. Miserable.

Tara: Hey, that sounds familiar, I think I know someone else who’s like that.

Tara’s grin widened, as Willow tugged on the baggy T-shirt Tara had slipped on, much to the redhead’s dismay, and pulled her girlfriend closer.

Willow: Oh?

Tara: Mmhmm. See, she’s totally in love with this unbelievable, redheaded beauty and she stand being without her. She’s completely lost when her girl isn’t with her.

Willow smiled.

Willow: If it has anything to do with the redhead, they’ll never be apart.

Their lips met in a tender, loving kiss and a familiar feeling embraced them. It was like electricity. It flowed between them, into their bodies and surround them. Made them glow in such a way, any body could tell they were in love just by looking at them. It was obvious. When they were together, only Willow and Tara existed. No one else mattered and the world around them became nothing but a blur. The kiss intensified and they began to get lost in the kiss. Getting lost was good sometimes.

No matter what was going on in their lives, they could always count on the other to help them through. They needed each other. If one of them wasn’t around, the other was miserable. It was like they found it hard to breath, they needed the to be together to live. Is life without love worth living? They didn’t think so, because life before they found each other couldn’t compare to life afterward. They’d never been so happy.

Grinning, Willow pulled back from the kiss and tugged at the bottom of Tara’s shirt, looking at her girlfriend, a cheeky grin, much like Tara’s before, spread across her face.

Willow: This has got to come off.

Part Ten

Postby Ginner WTluv » Mon Sep 16, 2002 3:13 pm

Hey all. God, i had such a full week last week.... all i wanna do is go to sleep and not wake up for 100 years. :D I got this finished today. It's pretty big update, because i'm not sure when i'll be able to update again. Hopefully you'll like this part and actually want to come back and read the next update when i get my computer back;)

Anyway, on with the show.

-------------------------------------------------------

Part Ten

The clock on the wall read ‘six-thirty’. It was still early, but Willow had been awake for hour. Of course, she’d also been up most of the night, not that she was about to complain. Any time Tara had been the one to keep her awake, you wouldn’t ever catch her complaining.

Glancing down at the blonde who was snuggled up to her, Willow smiled. She loved to watch Tara sleep. It was definitely in the top five on her “Things I Love To Do” list. Among other things.

Tara, for some reason, always smiled in her sleep and it made Willow wonder what she was dreaming about. She looked so peaceful. Not only could Willow see that, but she could feel Tara’s calmness. It was weird, but the good kind. It was as if the connection they shared ran deep within them. So deep, and their feelings for one another were so strong, that at times they could feel how the other felt, and once or twice, they had actually known what the other was thinking. It was amazing. Willow ran her fingers through her girlfriend’s hair, they’d been through so much together. Overcome so many obstacles, and they were still standing, refusing to let anything separate them.

Thinking back to before they were a couple, Willow remembered her first encounter with Tara’s father and how she felt when she’d seen him raise his hand to hit Tara. In that second, every single emotion imaginable hit her at once and it made her snap. She wasn’t thinking about herself, all Willow had cared about was making sure that Mr Maclay didn’t lay a finger on Tara and he didn’t get the chance to. Willow dove through the window, glass shattering around her, cutting her, and tackled Mr Maclay, pushing him away from Tara. After telling her too, the blonde fled, leaving Willow to deal with the man that had tortured her girlfriend for most of her life, and that’s just what she’d done. By the end of the night, Willow was covered in cuts and bruises and Mr Maclay was lying unconscious on Tara’s bedroom floor. Then there was his escape from prison, after he’d been locked up four months previously, and he’d gotten all “gun happy” on her, Buffy and Faith and kidnapped Tara. They’d all somehow got out of the hospital before Mr Maclay had chance to take Tara away with him and arrived at the train station just in time. But as Tara was trying to get to Willow, Mr Maclay lifted his gun and pointed it at Tara's back. He didn’t get much further than that, Willow pulled out her own gun and shot him before he hurt Tara. She’d killed him. Giles, a teacher at Sunnydale High and the person who had taken them to Tara, told the police he had shot Mr Maclay, but after he’d explained what had happened, he wasn’t charged. Then after that, Tara had found out that Giles was in fact her real father. So much to deal with over such a short period of time, but they’d gotten through it. Together.

It was amazing. However much Willow thought she loved Tara, it only got stronger. Never the other way around. Their love for each other grew with each day and just when Willow thought she couldn’t possibly love Tara any more than she already did, the blonde would do something and Willow would just fall for her all over again. It didn’t matter what it was: whether it was as simple as Tara tucking her hair behind her ear and then letting it fall back onto her face, or whether it was Tara biting on her bottom lip or stuttering when she was nervous, or even when she walked into the room or said Willow name a certain way. Was that what love was? Was that how it was supposed to make you feel?

Willow knew it was love, she’d known it since the first time she’d laid eyes on Tara. As soon as she’d seen her, her heart stopped and the emptiness she’d felt all her life, disappeared. Just like that. One minute it was there, then their eyes met and poof, it was gone.

Tara was her everything. Her world. Life without the blonde wouldn’t be worth living. Tara made her happy and Willow would be miserable without her. Tara was her life. She meant everything to the redhead. Willow couldn’t imagine being without her and she didn’t want to. It would be like a world without sunshine.

Her thoughts once again drifted back to before they’d got together. Willow would go out of her way to see the blonde. Track miles just to catch a glimpse of her. How she’d make excuses to touch her, hug her, hold her hand. Was she crazy? No. She was in love.

She was momentarily jerked from her thoughts, when she felt the girl beside her shift closer. Looking down, she smiled. Tara had moved so that she was pressed up, as close as humanly possible, to Willow. She’d wrapped her arms around the redhead’s middle and entwined their legs beneath the bed sheets. Her head was nestled in the hollow of Willow’s neck and one of her hands was spread out across her girlfriend’s upper arms. She heard Tara mumble and her smile widened. It seemed Willow wasn’t the only one who talked in her sleep. As she looked down at her girlfriend, she began to wonder. Was it possible to love someone as much as she did? Was it all one long, wonderful dream? Was she going to wake up any moment? She hoped not. She was enjoying this dream, if that’s what it was, way to much to wake up now.

Willow glanced over at the clock.

Seven-fifteen.... still plenty of time yet.

Faith’s bedroom

Her eyes fluttered open and she looked around the room, groggily. Had it all been a dream? God, she hoped not. But hoping hadn’t really got her anywhere in the last couple of days. Letting out a heart-filled sigh, she got up. Or tired to, but something was holding her back. Someone. Faith was pulled back down onto the bed and the sheets were lifted over her head and she was practically dragged under. She looked at the person in front of her and almost shrieked with happiness.

It wasn’t a dream!

Faith: Buffy!

The blonde raised an eyebrow.

Buffy: You were expecting someone else?

She sounded hurt. Maybe. Faith couldn’t really tell.

Faith: No. Just happy to see you.... here.... and knowing that last night wasn’t a dream.

Buffy: You normally have dreams like that?

Faith: Wouldn’t you like to know?

Faith wiggled her eyebrows.

Buffy: Yes, I would actually.

The brunette giggled as Buffy slid up the bed towards her, the sheet above them moving slightly with her. She moved her body up Faith’s, pinning the other girl to the mattress of the bed. Faith giggled again as Buffy began kissing her way to the brunette’s lips, starting at the bottom of her tummy.

Faith: Can I wake up like this every morning.

Buffy looked up at Faith, without lifting her head, and flashed her girlfriend a sexy smile.

Buffy: I think that can be arranged, I should warn you though, once I start, I won’t be able to stop.

Faith: You promise?

Kitchen: Later

Faith bounced into the kitchen, her happiness evident. She flicked the switch on the kettle and waited for the water to boil, a smile planted firmly on her face. She was practically glowing. After being miserable since she and Buffy broke up, being happy made a pleasant change. And it was even better because it was her and Buffy getting back together that had made her happy.

Hopping onto one of the kitchen cupboards, she began thinking about the last two years and how much things had changed. Some things hadn’t changed at all, others had changed in life-altering ways.

The first big one had been, of course, Willow switching teams. That hadn’t really shocked Faith, well, maybe at first, but the more she had thought about it, she realised that she’d kind of suspected Willow being gay all along. It had been quiet a big change though, but a good one. Then, Willow and Tara had gotten together. Faith had known since Willow first told her about the adorable blonde that her friend was falling for the other girl. It became more and more obvious as time went on. Willow didn’t think Tara would return her feelings, but she did. Faith knew she would, she didn’t know how she knew, she just did. Maybe she was psychic. She’d always thought being psychic would be cool. Being able to read people’s minds without them knowing.

After Willow and Tara became a couple, Mr Maclay, the guy who was supposed to be Tara's dad, was sent to prison, but her escaped and kidnapped Tara, putting her, Buffy and Willow in hospital in the process. She still had the scar where the doctors had removed the bullet. For some reason, it was in the shape of a bolt of lightening. her first reaction to it was: Wicked!

Willow had killed Mr Maclay. She’d killed him. Shot him dead to protect Tara. She had nightmares for weeks afterwards. Something, when she’d been sleeping over at Faith’s apartment, Faith would wake up. Willow’s scream always woke her up, It was horrible and the only thing that could calm the redhead down was Tara. After a while, the nightmares stopped and they could all sleep again.

She loved Buffy. She’d loved her since she first laid eyes on her. Well, maybe not when she first laid eyes on her, Buffy had had her best friend pinned to a wall and was threatening her at the time and then she and Buffy had gotten into a bit of a scuffle, but that was a different story.

The first time she’d looked at Buffy, really looked at her, gotten to know her, she fell and hadn’t got back up. She didn’t want to. Faith liked the little hold she got stuck in, she’d gotten comfy and didn’t want to get out. She loved Buffy. The blonde meant everything to her and if Buffy let her, Faith would gladly spend the rest of her life with her. Yeah, they’d been through a rough patch lately, but they’d got through it and would get through everything else fate decided to throw at them, as long as they were together. Her heart belonged to Buffy and it always would.

The kettle whistled.

Espresso Pump: That Night

It was quite slow that night. They’d expected the Espresso Pump to be filled with caffeine addicted college students like always, but were surprised to find it pretty much empty. They grabbed the booth at the back and were sipping their mocha’s and talking.

Faith: Don’t they scare you?

Willow: What’s to be scared of?

Faith: Oh, you mean apart from everything?

Willow let out a short laugh.

Willow: Faith, they aren’t scary.

They’d been talking about this for ages now. Buffy and Tara had already voiced their opinions on the subject and now Faith was interrogating Willow.

Faith: They are.

Willow: Face it, you’re a big baby.

Faith: Lets just see how you react when you’ve got one following you around for an hour, copying everything you do.

Tara: Well, I think Faith should leave the big bad mimes alone.

Faith: Hey, i’ll be happy to. It’s them who can’t leave me alone and I swear, they keep on following me, they’re gonna be extinct.

Buffy: You’re gonna kill them all? You and what army?

Faith held up her fists and looked at them. Buffy nodded.

Buffy: Ah, okay.

She smiled. She knew her girlfriend was strong. Really strong. Faith could lift Buffy up over her head. Of course, this made good material for teasing Faith about being butch as well.

There was a moment of silence as they all sipped their mochas, before anyone spoke again.

Willow: So, what do you guys wanna do now?

Faith: Well, there’s a new skate park just opened. We could check that out.

Willow: Sounds like fun.

The redhead grinned.

Willow: You gonna show your girl some of your moves?

Buffy’s head snapped around so she was looking at Faith.

Buffy: You skate?

Faith gave Willow a look, to which the redhead simply smirked.

Faith: No. I don’t.

Buffy: But Willow-

Faith: Willow likes to make things up. I can jump on a board. That’s about it.

Willow: You can do so much more than just ollie, Faith.

Faith: Willow, shut up.

By this time, Buffy was confused.

Buffy: Faith, do you skate or don’t you?

Faith: I don’t. I just wanna go down there and see some of the people who do.

Buffy nodded not really sure what to believe.

Buffy: Okay.

They finished their mochas and headed off to the skate park.

Skate Park

It was huge. As in Grand Canyon huge. Faith looked around in awe. It had three huge half pipes back to back in the middle, ramps, all different sizes, everywhere. Then there was an even bigger, vertical drop one towards the back. Grinding poles, quarter pipes, Faith noticed a few more half pipes scattered around. It was amazing. She’d never seen one so big.

Faith: Wow.

Willow: It’s huge.

Tara: How have we missed this?

Faith: It only opened about two weeks ago and we have all been kinda busy.

Buffy noticed Faith eyeing the place up.

I wonder if she does skate....

Faith: Come on.

She grabbed onto Buffy’s hand and began dragging her into the park.

Buffy: Hey! Where are we going?

Faith: Best seats in the house just became available.

She indicated a tatty looking sofa on top of one of the half pipes.

Buffy: I am not climbing up there!

Faith: Why not?

She stopped and turned to face her girlfriend, her tone teasing.

Faith: Is Buffy afraid of the big back block of wood?

Buffy: No. It’s the skaters who are skating down it at incredible speeds that i’m scared of.

Faith rolled her eyes and continued walking towards the half pipe, but Buffy wouldn’t budge. Sighing, she turned back to the blonde, picked her up and threw her over her shoulder.

Buffy: Faith!!

Faith: Oh, keep it down. This way, you won’t get hit by some skater dude, simply because I won’t let us get hit.

Buffy just pouted and watched as Willow and Tara followed them. Once Faith had gotten herself and Buffy up the half pipe, they sat down on the sofa and waited for Willow and Tara to join them.

By the time they got to the sofa, Willow was fuming. She’d seen at least six guys eyeing her girlfriend up.

Tara: Willow, i’m sure they weren’t looking at me.

Willow: They had eyes Tara, they were looking at you. It’s those damn jeans your wearing. Their too tight.

Tara: Honey, you picked these out for me.

Willow: I didn’t think i’d have the whole of Sunnydale gawking at you when I picked them out.

Tara: They’re not gawking.

They sat down next to a somewhat confused Buffy and Faith, who’d only caught the last part of the conversation.

Buffy: Who’s not gawking?

Willow: Every single person in Sunnydale.

Faith: Huh?

Tara: Willow thinks all the guys are looking at me.

Faith glanced at Tara, then at Willow.

Faith: Well, i’d usually say Willow was being paranoid.... but you do look mighty fine tonight Tara.

The brunette felt the back of Willow hand hit her head from behind.

Faith: Hey!

The Buffy slapped her knee.

Faith: Oww! Jesus, what was that for?!

Buffy: Ogling Tara.

Faith: I was kidding!

Tara looked at her and raised her eyebrows.

Faith: Not that Tara isn’t ogle worthy tonight.

Another slap on the back of the head from Willow. Faith practically growled and got up.

Faith: Okay, what is this? ‘Everyone hit Faith’ day?

Buffy: Hey, that would be a good idea for a holiday.

Faith was about to say something when she was tapped on the shoulder. When she turned around, she found a sandy haired boy smiling at her. He was wearing long, denim, skater shorts, with a longish chain hanging down from them and a black, baggy T-shirt that said “Skating = Death”. Faith grinned.

Faith: Callum!

Callum: Hey, dude. Long time no skate.

They shook hands, but not in the way you would think. Buffy thought it looked like some tribal handshake.

Faith: Yeah, well, been busy. You know.

Callum: Yeah, I know. S’cool. You up for a skate?

Faith: Naw, s’kay. Ain’t really doin’ that any more.

Callum: No kid? Really?

Faith nodded and looked around at all the skaters.

Faith: Yeah, just kinda stopped.

Callum: Dude, the boys are gonna be torn.

Faith: They here?

Callum: Yeah. They’re around.

Callum noticed one of the guys from the gang skated past and shouted to him.

Callum: Hey Kemp! Guess who just walked in? Get your board up here!

Kemp turned his attention to the halfpipe they were standing on and grinned when he saw Faith, who waved him over. He joined them on to of the half pipe and they shook hands in the same way Faith and Callum had.

Kemp: S’been a while.

Faith: I know. Lot’s happened since the last time we all hung out.

Kemp: Yeah?

Faith nodded.

Kemp: You still skate?

Faith: No.

Kemp: What?

Faith: Not anymore.

Callum glanced over Faith’s shoulder and caught sight of Willow. She smiled at him as he walked towards them.

Callum: Hey.

Willow: Hey Callum. How’ve you been?

Callum: Oh, you know. Just got out of hospital a few months back after breaking my leg.

Willow: And you’re already back skating?

Callum: What can I say? You can take the skater out of the park, but you can’t take the park out of the skater.

His grin widened as he eyed Tara.

Callum: Who’s your friend?

Willow almost blew her top then and there.

Seven!! Seven bloody people!!

She bit down on her bottom lip to stop herself from losing it and reached out for Tara's hand, entwining their fingers. Callum let out a laugh.

Callum: All the hot ones are taken. See ya, Will. Will’s friend.

He winked at Tara as he dropped in on the half pipe and skated down it on his board.

Willow: He may be a friend, but if he looks at you like that again, i’ll kill him.

Buffy was busy looking over and Kemp and Faith. They seemed friendly. A little too friendly for Buffy’s liking. Jealousy took over and she got up off the sofa and stood next to Buffy, grabbing Faith’s hand. Kemp arched an eyebrow, his way of asking Faith: And who is this?

Faith: Buffy, Kemp, Kemp, Buffy. My girlfriend.

He smiled at her.

Kemp: Nice to meet you. Listen, i’d better go find the rest of the gang. We’re supposed to be heading to Riley’s Place in a bit. I’ll catch you later.

Faith: See ya.

She turned to Faith her girlfriend.

Buffy: Who was that?

Faith: I thought I went over that with the: Buffy, Kemp, Kemp, Buffy.

Buffy rolled her eyes.

Buffy: Yeah, I got his name. Didn’t catch who he was.

The brunette shrugged.

Faith: He’s an old friend. So is Callum.

Buffy: How d’you meet?

Faith: How does everyone meet? You know.

Faith heard someone shout her name and looked down towards the bottom of the halfpipe. It was Callum and a group of other guys.

Callum: Hey Faith! The guys are pretty upset with you.

Faith: Oh?

Faith grinned and shook her head, she knew what was coming.

Callum: I think you should make it up to them.

Faith: And just how would I do that?

Callum smriked and threw his board up high, up the side of the halfpipe. Faith caught it and put it on the floor.

Callum: They wanna see you skate. Find out if you got rusty while you were away.

She sighed. It looked like Buffy was going to see her skate after all. Faith flipped the board up with her foot and caught it easily.

Faith: Rusty? Me? No way.

Faith smirked, she could feel Buffy’s eyes on her. Balancing the skateboard on the metal that was placed on the edge of the halfpipe, Faith carefully got onto the board, got her feet in the right position and leaned forward, executing an perfect stand in. The group of boys at the bottom whistled and cheered as she skated up the opposite side of the halfpipe, lifted her back legs up so she was upside down, holding onto the board with one hand and using the other to hold herself up. Buffy just stared.

Buffy: What’s that?

Willow grinned as Faith let herself drop, twisted her body a full 360 degrees and landed back on the halfpipe.

Willow: Faith’s version of a handplant.

Buffy: Oh right, I knew that.

Faith steered the skateboard off the halfpipe and headed for one of the biggest ramps. She got to the top, turned the board around and practically flew down the right side of the ramp. It had a longer bit towards the end that curved up slightly. She hit it head on, ollied and land on the grinding pole. The both tails of the board were either side of the pole now and the side was facing the half pipe Buffy, Willow and Tara were sitting at the top of.

Buffy: And what’s that?

Willow: Fifty-fifty grind.

Faith flipped the board again, while still on the pole, changing the grind.

Willow: No, now it’s a nose grind.

Buffy: They have weird names.

She came to the end of the grinding pole, ollied off it and headed back to the half pipe, picking up an amazing amount of speed on her way. Faith bolted up one of the sides, spun herself and the board around and then grabbed the front tail, while still in the air, and leaned back, pushing down on the front of the board. The board, almost fully vertical now, sped back down towards the halfpipe and just before the wheels hit it, she let the tail go, finishing off her perfect “rocket nose dive”. She flew up the side the girls were on, ollie again and landed on the top of the halfpipe, board in hand. Faith walked over to the side where the wooden fences stopped anyone from falling off and dropped the board back down to Callum, grinning.

Faith: I never get rusty.

Callum shook his head as cheers and whistles continued to roar through the park. Faith turned back to the sofa where Buffy, Willow and Tara were still sitting. Buffy and Tara were gawking at her, amazed. Faith coughed and sat down on the arm of the sofa next to Buffy, who just stared.

Faith: What?

Buffy: I thought you said you didn’t skate.

Faith: I don’t. Not anymore.

Buffy was about to say something when Kemp shouted up to Faith. The brunette got up and walked back over to the side, leaning on the wooden fence and looking down at the rugged looking boy. He looked pretty much like everyone else at the park. He wore a baggy, black and white, long sleeved T-shirt, long denim shorts that were frayed and worn at the ends and torn on his right leg by his knee, and a chain hanging from the loops of his shorts. He looked like a real “bad boy”. What made him stand out was his hair. It was as black as night, but he’d had white streaks put in that were in the shape of lightning bolts. It looked pretty nifty or at least Faith thought so.

Kemp: Callum, Jay and me are gonna race. Once around the park, first one to make it to the end wins. You in?

She shook her head.

Faith: I’ll pass.

Buffy got up from her seat and walked over to Faith.

Kemp: What’s wrong? You chicken?

Faith: No, I just-

She was cut off by Buffy, who began clucking like a chicken. Faith turned and glared at her. Buffy smirked.

Buffy: What? All your time away from the bad life of a rebel made you go soft?

She clucked a few more times and Faith turned back to Kemp.

Faith: You know what? Count me in.

Kemp grinned and winked at Buffy, before skating back towards Callum and Jay to tell them Faith would be joining them. Faith turned around and leaned against the wooden supports, looking at Buffy.

Faith: Thanks.

Her sarcasm wasn’t lost on Buffy.

Buffy: Aww, poor Faith and her ego. Chicken just doesn’t go well with your tough girl reputation, does it?

Faith: Carry on and by the end of the night i’ll be ignoring you.

Buffy: Makes a change from wanting to jump by bones.

Faith: Oh, I still wanna do that.

She grinned and pulled Buffy in for a quick kiss before jumping over the side of the twenty foot halfpipe.

Buffy: Faith!

The brunette landed on her feet, no problem, and looked up at Buffy. Her grinned widened as she saw the panicked look on her girlfriend’s face.

Buffy: I am so going to kill you when you get back up here.

Faith just giggled and ran over to Callum, Jay and Kemp. The starting point was right at the other end of the park, which made it hard for Buffy to see, but she could just about make Faith out. Willow and Tara had sat themselves on top of the sofa, behind Buffy. It was as if everyone in the park had suddenly flocked to the three half pipes to watch the race. They were crammed in everywhere.

Buffy: Are the races usually this big?

Buffy turned her head to look at Willow.

Willow: When Faith’s involved.

She heard a whistle being blown and the four skaters were off.

Willow: And you’re about to find out why.

Everyone’s eyes were fixed on the four skaters. Kemp was at the front, Faith just a bit behind him and Jay and Callum tying at the back. Suddenly, someone turned on the stereo and the huge speakers that were scattered around the park began pouring out a song. Avril Lavigne’s “Complicated” could be heard all over the skate park and probably could be heard in Africa, it was that loud. Everyone shouted and cheered as the song filled the park. Another round of cheers sounded as Kemp sped up the side of one of the ramps and pulled off a 360 degree turn while he was in the air. Jay picked up his speed and came level with Faith. She turned and grinned at him, before swerving her board towards him and almost knocking him off. He let out a yell and steered his board away from Faith. She let out a laugh and turned her attention to Callum who was now in the lead.

Callum: Little slow today, aren’t you Faith?

Faith: You just wait. I’ll beat all your asses.

Kemp: In your dreams.

The competition heated up as all four competitors became level with one another. Someone turned up the volume and presses play on the CD again and Avril’s voice once again filled the skate park, although no one seemed to notice. They were all to engrossed in the race.

Faith pushed her foot along the floor, picking up speed and headed for one of the bigger ramps that was even higher then the halfpipe at the top. Kemp, Callum and Jay all looked at her as she bolted up the front of it, hoping that Faith wouldn’t do what they thought she was going to do, but knowing she was going to anyway. Speeding towards the top of it at an incredible pace, she did nothing but grin and flew off the end of the ramp. Nothing compared to the feeling of flying through the air on a skateboard. The adrenaline, the excitement. Well, almost nothing compared to it. Faith grabbed the side of her board and twisted her body around. Once she got a good grip on her board, she pushed her feet out so they were straight. Then, as she tucked her legs back in, she used her hand that was holding the board and her right foot to kick the board. It spun around, momentarily leaving her hand, as she flew over the top of the half pipe and then caught it again. Buffy closed her eyes tightly.

Buffy: If she dies i’m never speaking to her again!

Callum, Kemp and Jay all sped up, but it was no use. Faith’s feet fell back on the board and she hit the floor behind the half pipe. Just as Avril’s song finished, she rolled over the finish line, arm raised high in victory. The skate park exploded. Every single person in there got to their feet and shouted, whistled and did everything they could think of. Faith just grinned and turned the skateboard around as Callum, Kemp and Jay rolled across the finish line after her.

Faith: Hey losers.

Kemp: Shut up.

Callum: I would have beat you, but you had a head start,

Faith: I left the same time as you guys, you’re just pissed cause you got beat by a girl.

They all shook their heads and Kemp flipped his board up and caught it, walking over to Faith.

Kemp: Got to say it though, that was pretty wicked.

Jay: Oh hell yeah. Wish I could have pull something like that off.

Faith: Just call me Tony Hawk. I’d better go see if Buffy’s fainted or not. Catch you later.

Kemp: See ya, Tony.

Callum: Don’t be a stranger.

Jay: I need you to teach me how to do that!

She heard Jay shout from behind and grinned as she skated back towards the halfpipe. Faith stopped at the side of it and handed the board she had been using back to the girl she’d borrowed it from and she looked as if it just been handed the Holy Grail of skateboards.

Faith: Thanks for that.

Claud: Yeah, yeah. Anytime.

Faith ran up the side of the halfpipe, grabbed hold of the metal bit and pulled herself up, getting pats on the back and more cheers on her way. She walked over to Buffy, still smiling at all the attention she was getting.

Buffy: Are you trying to give me heart failure?!

Faith: Um.... no?

Buffy: You.... god I could just.... ugh!

She slapped Faith’s arm.

Faith: Ow!

Buffy: You deserved it. I thought you were gonna kill yourself!

Faith: Buffy, I used to do stuff like that all the time.

Buffy: How was I supposed to that?! You never told me.

Faith: You never asked.

Buffy: Yes, because asking you if you skate was the first thing that popped into my head when I saw you!

Faith put her hand on Buffy’s shoulder and tried to calm the other girl down.

Faith: Buffy, hey, i’m okay. I don’t skate anymore. This was a one off. No more stunts like that, but if I didn’t think I could do it, I wouldn’t have done it.

She smiled and tucked Buffy’s hair behind her ear.

Faith: I’ve got something to live for now, don’t I? I don’t want to throw that away by dying from a skating trick that went wrong.

Buffy: Why do you do that?

Faith: Do what?

Buffy: Say stuff like that and make me love you even more so I can’t stay mad at you?

Faith grined and leaned forward, pressing her lips against Buffy’s in a soft kiss. Suddenly, the brunette giggled and pulled away.

Buffy: What?

Faith: I think we need to take those two home before this lot get a hell of a lot more than they bargained for.

Buffy turned her head and laughed. Willow was sprawled out on the sofa, after pushing everyone off, with Tara on top of her, in the middle of a heavy make out session.

Faith: Guys?

They didn’t even flinch, so Faith shouted a little louder.

Faith: Hey, guys!

The two girls broke apart and finally noticed everyone staring at them.

Buffy: You guys are worse than that vampire slayer and the bimbo vamp.

Faith: Only them doing it is just.... uck.

Buffy: But if you two are gonna carry on, I think we should start charging these guys to watch.

Tara buried her head in Willow’s shoulder, embarrassed at getting carried away in the packed skate park. The people around them either giggled or grinned at them and commented on how cute they both were. Buffy and Faith laughed as Willow and Tara got up of the sofa, both their faces as red as Willow’s hair.

Willow: Lets go, before we do something else.

Buffy, Willow and Tara carefully walked down the halfpipe while Faith just jumped over the side again and landed next to Buffy on the other side. The other girl let out a yelp and slapped Faith’s arm again.

Buffy: Don’t do that!

Streets of Sunnydale

It was a beautiful night. The stars were out and there wasn’t a cloud in the sky. A light breeze swept through the streets as the four girls headed home. They were talking about Faith and her somewhat spectacular show at the skate park.

Buffy: If I wasn’t busy having a heart attack, I would have told you just how amazing it was.

Tara: Yeah, me too. It was.... wow.

Faith: No biggie.

Willow: No biggie? Faith, i’ve seen you do stuff before, but that was one hell of a stunt.

Faith: What about that time I jumped over those ten guys outside the school?

Willow giggled.

Willow: That was just funny. The look on their faces.

Faith: And Oz just stood there, right on the end, looking all calm all the way through.

Buffy: How the heck did you do that?

Faith: We put two planks of wood up against two cars, one of them happened to be the principle’s, I skated up them, jumped, cleared the guys, landed on the other side and skated down.

Buffy: You say that like it’s nothing.

Willow: It wasn’t. Not for Faith.

Faith: I wasn’t that good, Will.

Willow: Faith, every single skater in our town worshipped you. I bet they still do. In fact, I bet most of them cried when you announced your retirement.

Faith rolled her eyes.

Faith: Shut up.

They carried on walking in the direction of Faith and Tara's apartment, when Willow suddenly stopped and turned around.

Tara: Will?

Willow: Did you hear that?

Tara: Hear what?

Willow: Someone talking. Did you hear it?

The three girls shook their heads and stopped to look around. They hadn’t hear anything.

Faith: Probably the wind.

Willow: Yeah.

Your time is here....

Willow stopped again and spun around quicker this time.

Willow: Okay, tell me you heard it that time.

Buffy: I didn’t hear anything.

Faith: Hey, maybe you’re going crazy, Will.

Willow: That’s not funny. I happen to like my sanity.

Hands of time closing in.... all around you....

Willow: Okay, weird creepy voices, not funny either. Are you guys not hearing this?

They shook their heads, all of them officially spooked. Willow wasn’t kidding. The redhead began to step closer to the alleyway that was in front of them. Tara stepped forward and put a hand on Willow’s arm. The redhead turned her head to look at her girlfriend.

Tara: Willow....

Willow: I’ll be right back.

She gave Tara a reassuring smiled and gave her hand a squeeze before stepping even closer to the alleyway.

Closer.... your time is getting closer....

Willow shook her head, hoping the voice would go away. She was only a few feet away from the pitch black alleyway now and suddenly, she heard something. Only this time, it wasn’t a voice. it was different.

Willow: Can you guys hear that? It’s like....

She strained her hearing to try and work out what the sound was.

Willow: It’s like.... growling.

It lunged at her. She screamed. Whatever had been in the shadows was now on top of her. It ripped at her skin and she felt a bolt of white hot pain shoot through her body. She screamed again.

Tara: Willow!

The thing lifted it’s head at the sound of Tara's voice and it stepped off Willow. It growled again and began to move closer to Tara. It’s fangs beard. The redhead, still on the floor, looked down at her stomach. Her top was soaked with blood, but she couldn’t make out the wound. Carefully, she lifted her top and winced as the material caught on the gashes underneath. Three huge claw marks. Her head began to spin and then suddenly, instinct took over as she realised that whatever had attacked her was not going after Tara.

Buffy was glued to the spot. The sight of the creature freezing her there. Faith wanted to move, but her legs wouldn’t work. Tara kept backing up, in the hope that the thing would be distracted and would leave Willow alone.

Willow staggered to her feet and threw herself at the creature, just as it was about to attack Tara, but it didn’t do much. Willow was weak and dizzy from the amount of blood she was losing, and the creature rolled them over and viciously tossed Willow to the other side of the road. It growled again and turned, this time, to Faith. The brunette finally remembered how to work her limbs and she pushed Buffy behind her and slowly began backing them up. The creature began to step forward, every so slowly and then suddenly broke out in a run. Faith turned and pushed Buffy towards Tara so the thing wouldn’t get her and the creature hit her, pushing her down to the floor. She let out a yelp as she felt something sink into her back and then felt the creature pull what ever it was out again. It snarled at her and Faith felt the same white hot pain Willow had felt, all across the back of her legs. She cried out in pain and the creature left her for the time being. It’s eyes locked on to Buffy, as the blonde picked up a metal pole that was lying to the side. She swung it about furiously as the creature jumped at her. Buffy hit it. It went down, but only for a second. Before she could even blink, it was back up. The creature growled again and lashed out at Buffy, wounding her side. She hit the floor and cried out in agony.

Faith: Buffy!

It then turned to Tara. Willow had begun crawling across the road, holding her bleeding side and every now and then wincing in pain. Seeing the creature turn and start towards Tara, she pushed her body into an upright position, ignored the excruciating pain that swept through her and ran as best she could towards the creature. The thing snarled at Tara and the blonde closed her eyes. Willow’s hand tightened around her wound and she fell back to the ground in pain, crying now. It was going to kill Tara and there was nothing she could do. She, Faith and Buffy were all down. Bleeding. Dying. The thing continued to close in on Tara and the blonde could do nothing put wait.

Oh god.... this is it.... this is how I’m going to die. I’m never going to see Willow again. This thing is going to take me away from her.... I won’t let it!

Her eyes opened and the thing seemed to sense her anger and determination, because it stopped. Tara's anger at the thing surged through her body, she wasn’t going to let this thing kill her, her girlfriend, or her friends. It snarled at her and she clenched her jaw, summoning every once of bravery she had in her.

Tara: Back off!

Her words were slow, full of anger. She could have sworn she heard the creature whimper and suddenly, it was flung across the street by some unseen force. The strength of the force was so powerful, the creature was thrown almost sixty feet and was then impaled on the bent iron fence that was behind Mutant Enemy.

She just stood there. Amazed. Confused. Scared. Buffy had managed to get to her feet and was now walking over to Faith to try and help the girl up. Faith’s legs had been slashed by the thing, making it almost impossible for her to walk. Willow dragged herself to her feet again and staggered over to Tara.

Willow: T.... Tara?

Tara's eyes were fixed firmly on the impaled creature. Willow’s hand fell onto the blonde’s shoulder and Tara turned to look at her girlfriend. Tara's face was white.

Tara: W-w-what.... what w-w-was th-that?

Suddenly, a voice surfaced, only this time everyone could hear it. It came from the same alleyway the creature had come from.

Voice: Are you sure you want to know? Do you think you can handle the truth?

Willow: Who are you?

A man stepped out of the shadows. He was completely dressed in black. Black trousers, black top, black leather jacket. His hair was brown-black and as he stepped forward he reached into hit jacket pocket and took out a packet of cigarettes and a lightly. He put a cigarette in his mouth, lit it and then put the packet and light back into his pocket. Buffy, who was crouching next to the now kneeling Faith, looked up at him.

Buffy: I know you.

He smiled at her.

Buffy: You were the guy at the mall. The one I talked to.

The Stranger.

Stranger: Ah, you remember me.

He smiled at the four of them, but then his smile faded and his face took a more serious look.

Stranger: Do you want to know the truth? Once you know.... you can’t go back, but you don’t really have a choice.

This time Faith spoke, her voice firm.

Faith: What was that? And who are you?

He took a drag of his cigarette and his eyes locked with Faith’s.

Stranger: That.... that was a werewolf. And me? I have many names, but most people call me Wesley.
