I can't f***ing believe it!! That referee needs a kicking! Fair enough Portugal played better than us, but that's not what the game is all about. He was siding with the home team the majority of the game, and that goal..........do not even get me started! He was miles away down the other side of the pitch and his lines man, who was right there and could see everything, didn't as much as move his flag, yet he still saw fit to disallow it! What's that all about And why was he even refering the match in the first place when we beat his country in an earlier match, surely someone else was needed to keep the game fair with no come-back. I dunno............i'm all distraught and depressed, the atmosphere in the pub was flippin amazing though, truly was amazing, and i was shaking towards the end it was that intense. Anyway, the boys did good and they should be proud of their performance.

Sorry Brit Kittens. (do we have any Portugese Kittens? Congrats!)

GG Good googly-moogly: I went to listen to my usual late-night "Beeb," and it's all wall-to-wall football (w/ much crying in pints). You'd think someone really, really cares about this! ;) Out

But back on this side of the Pond, my Giants are now in first place---Woo Hoo! :applause

GO PORTUGAL!!!

As I'm probably the only portuguese kitten around, I couldn't resist!

I'm sorry England had to go (and you were my second choice) but you have to admit we deserved it yesterday. Our boys were really giving it all they could and they made it. They also gave us one of the most exciting games I've seen in a long time! Talk about suffering!! You can imagine all the partying going on around here!

Thrilling! Absolutely thrilling!!:banana

Cheers, Greece...You earned a special place in my heart right next to Cameroon who shellacked the French two years ago in the World Cup opener.

I'm portuguese too but i was born and raised in England so its my home, ua know. I'm gutted about that goal and that England lost, and the fact that my mum is jumping around the house with her flag doesn't help............but.................Portugal did play well, so well done them. I'm going off to sulk now, back later.

I was sorry England went out, 'cause my gf is English. Though I have to say, if England had been better in defence they would have won it. In my opinion they should have played like the Greeks did. They were sensible in defence. They played the ball out with good solid passing instead of panicking and playing the long ball out.

Wasn't Maniche's goal a cracker? To be honest I thought Holland would put up a better fight, but fair play to Portugal.

I think the Greece - Czech Republic match will be interesting. Greece have been amazingly regimented in defence, but I'm sure Mr Baros and Co will do their best to test them.

WOW!!

Postby wilgen » Thu Jul 01, 2004 3:40 pm

Wow, the Greek team won from the Czech Republic.

So the closing match of Euro 2004 is the same as the opening match, Portugal - Greece. How funny and unexpected is that?

Fair play to Greece. They have been rewarded for their consistently stalwart defence. I'd like to see them win the whole thing now.

VIVA PORTUGAL! :applause

These have been the words that have been most heard around here! It's absolute Portugal and football fever!!! Absolute madness. Windows, balconies, cars, shops, everywhere is a perfect place to put a flag. There is a general feeling of hope, joy and confidence not only because of the success of the team, but because the organization has been going quite well. It's a sense of pride that, honestly, I don't think has ever been seen here before. (Well maybe during the Discoveries and such, but that was centuries ago, literally!) Even in the midst of political confusion, there is a breath of optimism that is absolutely contagious. I don't think I've ever seen so many people, looking so happy for such a long time. So for all these reasons, a portuguese victory would be bliss! But...well this time tomorrow we'll know. I hope it goes well. If we win, well the country will go completely CRAZY!!!!! But the way things have gone so far, I thing even if we lose there will be big celebrations!

Still, Greece deserves its merit. They've been doing a great championship and we can't forget they did win the first time around! I'll guess we have to wait and see!! :whistle

It's going to be nerve-wrecking!!!

GO PORTUGAL!!!!!!

Well done Greece - you totally deserve to win. You have been far and away the best team of the tornament - the real underdogs that have come top because unlike France, Germany and yes, dare I say it England, they didn't think they were going to cruise it! So well done Greece, and many more for the future!

On a different topic: yes, Maniche's goal in the last match against Holland has to be the goal of the tornament! :eatme

Yay for the Greekies!!!!

Lovely to see a team that has been consistently good rewarded. I am so impressed with how regimented they were in defence and in their passing. They never panicked, just stayed calm and kept control of the ball.

I'll admit to not having heard of most of the Greek players before Euro2004, though I'm sure some of them are likely to become targets for transfers now. Personally I'd love if Dellas or Charisteas came to Aston Villa :)
