Oui, oui. I could stand to brush up on my reading French, and what better vehicle than a W/T story?!

Tara vine

Have you heard about Tara Vine(daraeneongkul)? I found the name from a Korean floral language site. Anyway, its floral language is 'deep love.'

(oops, a wrong thread.)

vamp nurd- I first heard of Tara from Ireland as well. It was the seat of high kings of old Ireland. Ireland's Tara

As to Willow as a first name, it refers to the tree but has gotten a connotative meaning of Free Spirit.

Tara as first name in English mainly comes from Tara, Irish for hill, most famous ones being Tara-of-the-Kings (in COunty MEath, I believe?) and the plantation named after it in _Gone with the Windshield_. As a first name it's still too new to have taken on any implied meanings.

However, on the set of that show, satf were carefully instructed; the pronunciation is not the Irish-English T- short A- R- schwa, it's the Indo-Tibetan pronunciation T- long A- R- schwa. MAke of same what you will.

I know this is an old tread but

Back in the day the seat of government in Ireland was Tara so I guess it does have some Irish roots as well but not quite as nefty as the goddess ones

This thread is yet another example of why the kittens are so pretty. It makes me wonder, and this might have been discussed somewhere or be an obvious question, but do we know what Tara's mother's name was? Because that could lead to more interesting examinations.

I wonder who actually named her. How in-depth their research was. . .

The name of Tara's mother has never been revealed on that show. Practically nothing is known about her, which is perfectly ok by me because, like WT, she belongs to us now and whatever we can come up with will be better.

You're so good at making something that would otherwise make me sad seem like a good thing. (smile) It'd be so nice if she had a legacy we could uncover, though.

Sounds like Joss pissing us about again. as far as I'm concerned 'Tara' will always and forever be associated with the Irish / celtic name.

All that was so cool. Tara name really suit her.

Did you know that in the cult of the Magna Mater in classical times, this goddess (the mother of Attis) is frequently depicted sitting on a lion or a leopard, and that one of her epithets is "Tamer of Beasts"! Archaeologists have found literally hundreds of figurines of the goddess seated on a lion/leopard all over the classical world.

Ey! What's that? Are you implying Willow is a beast? :laugh jajaja, well she can be sometimes.

By the way in Spanish, willow = sauce, is often named sauce lloron. Lloron means crying. (You know, because how the leaves fall like teras and all) I don't know about in English.

But I always thought poor Willow had a sad background. The cry thing on her name display a :sob gloomy fate. Tara...:sob she made the cry factor go away and by leaving (not her fault, poor poor Tara:( ) Willow turn into a big depressed crying soul.

*sigh*
