Hey caged heart...

There's a whole other thread on "WannaBlessedBe" if you go looking, and some people on there that have offered to sell copies of that comic if people can't find it. It's a bit tough to find now.

A two-part series and not one smooch? Has the WB taken over the comic book industry? Oh well, touching is good. My copy is supposedly on the way, but I'm looking forward to scans or more sweet parts that anyone wants to share. Thanks! :)

I was sad to see that not only is the affection dampened down (yes, there *are* very busy fighting for their lives), but Willow's manipulative side surfaces in a strange scene that will probably never be expounded upon. Its a strange place (in a comic two-shot) to drop hints of Willows blackmagicks problem (and wonky ethics). I really hope more W/T comics come out so there's some resolution...or they ignore it like it never happened and resume the lovey dovey goodness.

But as ive posted before, i like the art and inking for it's colour and movement. :)

I havent gotten Part 2 just yet, but I'm sitting by my mailbox waiting for it on a daily basis. I'm sure it will get here soon. I enjoyed the first part very much. I'm not sure I like the non-lovey dovey part from you all have said though. :(

But I'll give a more informed thought about the conclusion of this once I've gotten my copy.

Find a US Kitty you trust and use their address to ship to. Then get them to ship it on. Where there's a will there's a complicated way to do it :)

I tried to do that, but it all falls in a heap if you're trying to pay by credit card because sending it to a different name/address violates the safe use policy on online payment services such as Paypal and Billpoint.

This method only works for me if I'm willing to send international money orders.

Edited to add: Did anyone see the people going NUTS over the copies signed by Amber and Chris Golden on Ebay? Over $100 for a comic book! My credit card is crying just thinking about it...!

Thanks for the WannaBlessedBe link Indygo. Guess I'll have to start hitting the auction sites & just hope to get lucky. Unless some lovely Kitten has an extra copy they'd be willing to sell to me. But I doubt it this late in the game.

I'm looking forward to getting Wilderness Pt. 2 tomorrow, I hope one of the stores near me has it. I'm not really into comics in general, I just got lucky that the bookstore in my mall had Pt. 1.

Also, does anyone have an extra copy of the Pt. 1 art cover that they'd be willing to sell, or trade for a photo cover? tfaw.com charges $5 shipping for 1 comic book, and that's sending it bookrate! I know the actual bookrate is much cheaper, I send video tapes media mail for around $2. Anyway, end rant on overpriced shipping from online stores. If anyone can help me out, my e-mail addy is in my profile.

I wish I could help you out caged heart, but something tells me the online shipping prices as inflated as they are still beat the price of shipping from Australia...

I would seriously check out some comic book stores in your area for "Wilderness Pt 1". All the stores around me still have copies in abundance, both photo and art covers. That won't last for long with Pt 2 coming out, but it's worth a shot, and local stores need your support.

As for the ebay auctions, good luck! The prices are actually a lot more reasonable than they have been for a while, and being in the US certainly helps your chances of picking up a cheaper copy.

Postby Garner » Fri Sep 13, 2002 12:04 pm

Overall I liked the story and the finish was pretty well done. The dialog was in keeping with the first one and solid as well. I still would have preferred some better art, I still don't like the way Tara looks, but it was vibrant and well colored.

I too was disappointed that there wasn't any smoochies or any real sweet scenes besides the wonder twins comments. However there was a lot more action and plot going on in this one so that does explain some of it, and Dawn being around also probably dampened things. Oh well. I was looking for a slightly cuter wrap up.

Now the real interesting part, and this is slightly SPOILERISH if you haven't read the comic, but the part where Willow and Tara join together to burn up the forest god BOTH of them have the black eyes! Now that is very interesting to me. I don't think that was something the artist just did, which means that Amber and Chris made the decision to make it happen. Tara with black eyes is something we haven't seen before and has interesting implications. I wish that they would do another one, or that Chris Golden would do a W/T novel that might explore this. Unfortunately I would not hold my breath for either.

Oh, I also liked how Willow and Tara combined to cast more powerful effects throughout both parts. It is pretty clear in this that they are stronger when they work together than when apart. That is something that SHOULD have been in the show more and I am glad that Chris and Amber did that. Very nice!

The again with the black eyes that doesn't always mean dark magick. . .it just means anger. . . which leads hate which leads to suffering. . .((With a Sn that's Yoda realted I had to make that quote)) But usually it means some form of dark magick is being used in anger. . becuase I can't picture Tara useing black magicks becase she warned Willow so much.

when you use the left side of your brain(the part that controls the right side of your body)(the creative part)your pupils get bigger. Willow and Tara when using magic are thinking creatively and using the right side of their brains and get big pupils.

Willow i believe draws her magic from the shaded or black side of the Yin-Yang. This is the female side of the Dao or the universe. Black or dark is not bad or even anger, though it is chaotic .

I got this from the Herders Dictionary of Symbols....

"The Herder Dictionary of Symbols"...

"BLACK: A color symbolically analogous to WHITE and that similarly corresponds to the absolute; hence it can express both the abundance of life and its total emptiness. In the sense of the undifferentiatied and abysmal, it often appears as the designation of darkness, primal chaos, and death. As the color of mourning, it is closely associated with resigned pain(thus differing from the light color white, which signals hope).

As the color of the night, it shares in the symbolic complex of mother-fertility-mystery-death; black is thus also the color of fertility, mother godesses, and their priestesses(in this context it is sometimes related to symbolically to RED, the color of blood). In China, black is the color of the feminine principle, yin (see yin and

yang) and contrasts with its opposite, Yellow (or sometimes also Red), rather than with white, as in the West.

As the color if evil, black occurs, for example, in the term "black magic".

In the Spanish Court, black was for a long time the color of great dignity."

Two quick things

For those complaining about the lack of smoochies the story works in such a fast paced way that it really doesn't allow for it. No conspiracy just good writing on the Amber and Chris's part really. Sure it would be good to have them ;) but its obvious reading the story that well they've put the story first.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Willow & Tara #2

Posted: Friday, September 13

By: Ray Tate

Print This Item

Writer: Amber Benson & Christopher Golden

Artists: AJ & Klebs(p), Derek Fridolfs(i), Michelle Madsen(c)

Publisher: Dark Horse

Willow and Tara defend humanity against Greenjack—a twisted version of the legendary Green Man-- in the second issue of their latest solo excursion. The book succeeds in a number of ways. Amber Benson and Christopher Golden fail to make the story one-sided. While their sympathies lie with the environmentalists, they also give thought to how the loggers feel and why they do what they must. The writers also lack a preachy tone and do not neglect the action or the character dynamics.

While Willow’s days of magic use are over, it’s enjoyable to see her thrust in the role of mystical in charge super-hero, a mask she wore only briefly at the start of the sixth season. Tara while not a sidekick is also not the proactive fighter of evil Willow has become at this point. Reflecting her series part, Tara doesn’t actually look for trouble but does not turn away when it manifests. She’s more interested in protecting Willow and Dawn from harm. It’s unsurprising that the voices of the characters thus match. Amber Benson. Tara. Duh?

The writers also find a means to bring Dawn into the story without turning her into the Slayer—a potential future for the character.

The artwork by AJ (?) and Klebs (huh?) with Derek Fridolfs turns the adventure into a blueprint for the forthcoming Buffy the Vampire Slayer animated series. The characters in a photorealistic sense bear little likeness to the actors, but if the photos of the actors were reduced to animation, this is probably how they would look. Michelle Madsen makes this adventure the most colorful outing of the Buffy books, and given the presence of faeries and ilk, her treatment of the usually dark horror outings is most apt.

Willow and Tara though underhyped may appeal to a variety of comic book readers. The super-hero fan may enjoy Willow filling that mold. The fantasy-oriented fan may enjoy the Celtic mythology. Practitioners of Wicca, and there are more than likely thought, may appreciate a positive spin on their religion. Fans of empowered women may certainly enjoy the confident portrayal of three powerful female figures. Buffy the Vampire Slayer fans will most likely enjoy the entire package.

This isn't specifically about the W&T comic, but something I found irritating about the future of the Buffy comics as a whole. It seems they've decided to switch focus and instead of following the TV series now think it would be interesting to start telling the story of Buffy before the TV show. At least that is their stated direction. Which means, of course, that the only recognizable characters from the show would be Buffy and perhaps Dawn. Ii just think this is profoundly stupid. The end.

Autumn that really kind of sucks. I must say I was not too fond of the new comic, certainly the weakest of the 3 w/t comics. I am not one for action though, I rather read people talking to each other. And I thought this took place the summer after Buffy died, at least that was the early word I had on it. When during the show was this supposed to take place?

Aut,

I think it's just more confirmation, along with the "the future of Buffy is...the past of Buffy" theme we've heard for next season, along with season six as a whole, that the story has ground to a halt.

Rules of TV (In no particular order)

TV shows, virtually without exception, always continue for at least a year past their natural finishing point.

That finishing point is almost always five years into the run. By five years, most of the stories and variations and changes have been run and, barring the injection of viable new blood, the characters are past familiar to audiences. They're either treading water or worse, having increasingly unlikely traits ladeled into them by bored writers and actors.

The longer a series runs, the more idiotic their characters have to become in order to generate plots. Because if they learned from experience they'd do things like capturing a bunch of dorks in three episdoes, tops.

I would also say that they rushed the comics that fit into last seasons shows. Now that they've caught up they have no choice but to go backwards for a time or they'll end up a head of the TV show.

Tell me about the comics jumping ahead of time. One minute Tara has a small fight with Willow about the magic, and then the very next comic I read she has already living in her dorm (I guess I am to assume Tara already left Willow). I am still pissed that in one comic I can see naked Spike/Buffy having sex in the comics, but we are lucky if W&T get a kiss.

By the way I am still waiting for my comic shop to get Wilderness part 2 (never mind I ordered it in early July, but I won't rant), I know they don't kiss, there is a lot of action, but are their more cute scenes (other than Rose posted) that shows their love or are W&T too involved in fighting for their lives to worry about romance?
