Okay so here's the deal... :) I have the next update completly written on my old laptop because doctor's orders I'm not supposed to be using a desk top, unfortunately the desk top is the only computer in the house that is capable of internet access. My new problem is that the laptop no longer wants to let me save anything to a disk, so I'm trying to fix it so that I can get the story on this computer to post it. If I fail I'll have to go against my doctors wishes and just type it again on this computer. :) Hopefully I'll have it up soon for you guys. :pray Thanks for being so patient.

I have no idea what happened to my computer. I've been trying it for days and nothing worked and then all of sudden it did. Don't you just love it when that happens. :) The good news is that I can post the update now. :party Hope you all enjoy it.

Day 5b

Tara sat at the table unable to think of anything, but her earlier phone conversation with Willow. She knew things were moving way too fast, well not things exactly, but feelings. The feelings were moving way too fast. She had this little voice in the back of her head that kept telling her it wasn’t real, things like this don’t really happen, but all Tara wanted to do was shut that little voice up because she wanted to believe it was real. And why shouldn’t she believe that, after all she’d been through enough, didn’t she deserve this little bit of happiness? Willow made her so happy. Just thinking about the cute redhead put a smile on her face. She couldn’t help but daydream about the day when she would finally meet Willow face to face, hold her in arms and just kiss her for a million years. Tara let her mind drift back to the phone call when Willow had said she thought she was in love with her, Tara sighed and couldn’t stop the smile from erupting.
“Are you ever gonna get up and dance?” Marie asked, wiping her brow as she plopped down next to Tara and sipped her drink.
“No,” Tara said still smiling.
“You’re seriously just gonna sit here all night?”
“No, not all night, at some point I’m going to get up and go home,” Tara said looking at her friend.
“There’s something you’re not telling me, I can tell,” Marie said staring intently at Tara. Lately she had been smiling non stop, and sometimes it looked like Tara was just off in lala land. “You met someone didn’t you? So who is it? What’s he look like?”
“I didn’t,” Tara said denying it rather than confront the truth. She wasn’t ashamed of being gay she just liked to keep her private life… private.
“You so did,” Marie said shaking her head disapprovingly. “You have to tell me about him, and then you have to tell me where you met him so that I can go meet someone too.”
Tara paused looking at her friend. It suddenly hit her that if Marie really was her friend telling her the truth shouldn’t matter. It wasn’t like she had ever said she liked men, that was just something Marie had assumed that Tara had never corrected.
“Okay, I did meet someone,” Tara confessed.
“I knew it, so spill.”
“I will, but keep an open mind, okay? This might be a little bit of shock,” Tara said watching Marie’s face scrunch up in confusion. “The person I met is a woman, I’m gay.”
“Oh… I just always thought… cause you’re so pretty and everything,” Marie said as if those thoughts had come out completely and Tara was able to understand.
“I’m pretty so I’m straight?” Tara asked.
“No… well… yeah,” Marie said. “ I just, I don’t know. I guess I just thought attractive lesbians were only something you see on television. I didn’t think they were real.”
“Okay… I think,” Tara said.
“I’m totally okay with it,” Marie said quickly, “I just, you know, never thought you were, but it’s cool that are. So where did you meet this girl?”
“Really?” Tara asked skeptically.
“Yeah, really, maybe she has a brother,” Marie smiled.
“She doesn’t, only child,” Tara said, “Ummm… also she lives in Southern California.”
“When did you go there?”
“I didn’t… we… we met online,” Tara said uncertainly.
“That’s something I’ve never tried,” Marie said, “you’ll have to let me know how it works out cause if it’s good I’m not too proud try it.”
“I will,” Tara said smiling at her friend, her actual friend who knew everything and still wanted to be friends.
“Okay, I’m dancing, come with me,” Marie said pleading with her friend.
“No way, I do not dance,” Tara said, ready to defend herself more when her phone vibrated, “Saved by the bell,” she said holding up the phone. Marie walked off back to the crowded dance floor. “Hello,” Tara said, her finger stuffed in her other ear.
“Hi… is this Tara… the… one… my… mom… talks… to,” Taylor asked crying.
“Yes, Taylor is that you?”
“Yes… I … need… my… Mommy,” Taylor cried.
“Your Mom isn’t with me, sweetie,” Tara said wondering how Taylor even got her number, and how Willow would feel knowing that her daughter had called her.
“I… know… she’s with… Buffy. But… I… don’t feel… good, and … I want … her to… come… get me.”
“I bet your grandma and grandpa could call her for you,” Tara said.
“No… they said… I just need… to… to… to rest.”
“They’re probably right, maybe you should lay down and try to sleep,” Tara was totally stumped at how to handle this particular situation.
“I am, but… I need… my Mommy… please call her,” Taylor pleaded as she continued to cry.
“I can do that, but I’m gonna need to hang up so I can call her, okay?”
“NOOOO… don’t… hang up.”
“Honey, I can’t call without hanging up,” Tara said scanning the dance floor for Marie.
“Please… don’t… hang… up,” Taylor begged.
“Okay, okay… no hanging up,” Tara said, biting her lower lip she tried to think of a way to call Willow without hanging up on Taylor. “Okay, I’m gonna go find another phone to call your Mom on.”
“And she’ll… come… and get… me?”
“I can’t promise that, but I can promise that she loves you and if she thinks you really need her, I know she’ll come get you.”
“Grandma says I don’t need… her,” Taylor said getting her tears more under control now that Tara was going to call her mom.
“I know that when I don’t feel good I always want my Mom, and I’m a grown up,” Tara said trying to comfort the little girl.
“You do?”
“Oh yeah, everyone does.”
“Does she come and get you?” Taylor asked.
“No… my mom… well… How do I say this?” Tara said.
“She died,” Taylor said knowing that sometimes those things happened, because it happened to Buffy.
“Yeah, but it doesn’t stop me from needing her, and when I need her I always think of her in my mind and I remember her holding me and telling me that everything is gonna be okay, and she would sing this song to me every time I was sick and it would always make me feel better. Does your Mom have a something special she does with you when you don’t feel good?”
“She sings me a silly song,” Taylor said smiling for the first time all night, “and she acts really silly too.”
“I think that would make me feel better too,” Tara said. “I found a phone so I’m gonna call your Mom now, but I’m not hanging up okay?”
“It’s okay, Tara, I feel better now.”
“You do?”
“Yeah, I think I feeled bad cause I missed my Mommy so much that it made my heart hurt, and that made my tummy hurt, but you made my heart feel all better. Now I know why my Mommy loves you so much. Can you come to my house and play with me sometime?”
“Yeah,” Tara said, trying not to cry. Kids could just be so darn wonderful, “I’ll come play with you sometime, I don’t know when I’ll be able to, but I’ll come, I promise.”
“And you always keep your promises right?” Taylor said.
“Always,” Tara smiled.
“I’m tired now okay, so I’m gonna go to bed. If you talk to my Mommy tell her I miss her and I love her and I want her to come back soon.”
“I will sweetie; you try and get some good rest.”
“Okay Tara, I love you.”
“I love you too, goodnight and sweet dreams.”
“Yeah, and don’t let the bed bugs bite,” Taylor giggled hanging up the phone.
Tara hung up her phone, and walked back over to the table. Marie had returned again for more of her drink, and had found the table empty.
“Don’t tell me you actually danced?” Marie said.
“No, phone call, remember?”
“Yeah, but I didn’t know you had to leave the table for a phone call,” Marie said winking, “It must have been your mystery woman.”
“No… it was her four year old daughter,” Tara said.
“Get out now… you do not want the complication of a child, trust me, I’ve been there and done that.”
“Taylor is not a complication, not to me anyway. She’s a very sweet little girl.”
“For now,” Marie said. “Just wait until she gets a little older and you’ll see what I’m talking about. Always trying to get in the middle because they don’t think they’re getting enough attention, so then it turns into a battle. Who can get the most attention, and trust me, you’ll lose. The kid always wins that fight.”
“Good, because they should,” Tara said. “I don’t think I could ever be with someone who put me first over their child. I want to be a Mom, and I know that no matter how much I love the person I’m with, when I have our baby, that baby comes first.”
“Ugh… you’re so sappy,” Marie said. “I guess you still believe in true love and all that jazz too.”
“Of course I do,” Tara said, “I’m going to get the fairy tale.”
“Know what? I think you really will,” Marie said.

The scene at the beach could only be referred to as complete chaos. There was a large bonfire centered between thirty to forty tents. Around the bonfire a large group of people were gathered dancing to absurdly loud music blaring from large speakers placed in the bed of a pick up truck. Other people were hunkering in the shadows using the dark, and the loud music as a cover for their illicit goings on. And despite the late hour and the crispness in the air several people were splashing around in the surf. A red head emerged from the water clad only in a pink and green bikini turning heads as she made her way back to her tent. She laughed as she watched the tent next door rock, threatening to lose its grip on the sand.
Willow ducked into her tent searching for a pair of shorts to throw on over her bikini bottoms. As she searched for just the right pair she came across her cell phone. She had been wanting to call Tara all night, but she didn’t want to call her while the blond was at the club. Willow didn’t like the thought of having to compete for Tara’s attention. On the other hand it was midnight and Willow was dying to talk to her girl. Putting the search for the shorts on hold she dialed Tara’s number.
“Hello.”
“Hi, it’s me… Willow.”
“I know,” Tara said giggling. “Didn’t I tell you to call my cell tonight?”
“Oh…yeah… I kinda just dialed on reflex,” Willow said. “I guess it’s my lucky day since you’re home.”
“It seems that way,” Tara said so glad to be talking to Willow she almost forgot she had something to tell her. “Oh… I almost forgot. Taylor called me earlier.”
“She did? How did she even get your number? Was something wrong?”
“She missed you,” Tara said. “I can relate to that. I talked to her and told her I’d call you, but before I could she was feeling better and she just wanted to go to sleep. I did call you though. I left a message, did you get it?”
“No, but then again I didn’t check them either,” Willow admitted. “She is okay though?”
“Yeah, she was fine, I promise.”
“I trust you, but I think I’ll call first thing tomorrow just to check on her. She usually doesn’t get that way when I go. She loves staying with my mother and father.”
“Do you go away often?” Tara asked trying to sound nonchalant.
“Do I detect a hint of jealousy?” Willow asked coyly.
“Maybe.”
“No, I don’t go places often, and you don’t need to worry about me, I’m yours.”
“Mine?” Tara questioned hopefully.
“All yours,” Willow replied.
“That works out perfectly cause I’m all yours,” Tara said.
“Are you sure? Cause you did go out tonight, getting your groove on at the club. You didn’t meet anyone did you?”
“Oh, that was nothing. Just a quickie in the bathroom.”
“WHAT!!!!”
“Willow, I’m kidding I swear,” Tara said laughing. “There is only, and always will be only you.”
“That was so not funny.”
“Not even a little?”
“Well yeah, if I was the one teasing you,” Willow said, “but my heart dropped right out of my chest.”
“I’m so sorry, I thought you would know I was teasing you. I didn’t mean to hurt you,” Tara said near tears.
“It’s okay, baby, I’m fine now, I promise. No more lost heart. I know exactly where it is. It’s in Seattle with you.”
“How is it possible to love someone so much?” Tara asked.
“Well it’s incredibly easy. I mean, let’s face it, I’m an unbelievable catch. It’s not every day you meet someone with charm, personality, beauty, and just the right amount of geek to balance it all out.”
“Don’t forget your humbleness,” Tara said.
“That’s right, I don’t know how I could have possibly left that out,” Willow giggled.
“I don’t know, though, I haven’t seen any geek yet.”
“It’s there,” Willow said. “My brain houses an extraordinary amount of useless facts and trivia. There’s a whole chunk dedicated to star trek tng, and I can’t forgot the whole Xena section, and there’s also a bunch of school stuff still in there, science, math, and computer stuff. I’m sure something will come flying out of one of those places sometime. It always does.”
“Well then you can consider me a geek too. I love Xena and in my opinion tng the best of the star trek spin offs,” Tara said.
“Really? Me too,” Willow said excitedly. “When you come or I come, I’ll have to make sure I have all my tng dvd’s. We could have a marathon.”
“Speaking of coming.”
“Ummm… were we speaking of that. Cause I’m pretty sure that our conversation was totally rated G,” Willow said.
“No… not… well you know, but me or you coming to visit the other,” Tara said trying hard not to laugh at Willow’s mistake. Tara felt certain that Willow’s thoughts about her were not always as mild as she had originally thought. It was nice knowing that she wasn’t the only one having some xxx rated dreams.
“Now I’m embarrassed,” Willow said. “Okay, I’m moving on and acting like I never said it, so visiting, yes that sounds wonderful.”
“Yes it does, but how are we going to do it?”
“Well… I wouldn’t be able to for at least a few weeks. My mom and dad are going on a three week trip to Europe so I’d have no one to watch Taylor and I really don’t want to bring her with me, cause she’s no good on long road trips.”
“You wouldn’t fly?”
“Ugh… not unless I really had to, I’m a big baby about flying.”
“I can come to you, if you don’t mind that.”
“Why on earth would I mind that?” Willow asked.
“Well… I don’t know. Some people are weird about people coming to their house. Plus I didn’t know about meeting Taylor, if you’d want me to, you know?”
“I don’t really care about people coming to my house, because of Taylor, I figure anyone who knows anything about kids realizes that it’s nearly impossible to keep a house spotless with a preschooler, and you’ve talked to Taylor so she knows you exist, and obviously feels comfortable enough to call you when she can’t reach me, so I’d say there’s no real point in you not meeting her. I think it’s really great that she likes you so much. She’s not like that with everybody. She’s terrified of Xander’s girlfriend and she’s known her since she was born. I’m excited to have you come here and get to meet everybody and of course to be able to hug you and touch you and kiss you, if you want me to that is.”
“Oh I want you to,” Tara said a bit too eagerly.
“Yay,” Willow said. “Do you know when you might be able to come here?”
“Not for sure or anything. I have to check my schedule at work. Every now and then I have home visits scheduled on the weekend. And I also have to find someone to check in on Miss. Kitty for me, “Tara said. “My tummies all fluttery right now thinking about seeing you.”
“I’m so excited I think I could jump right out of my bikini,” Willow said fidgeting wildly.
“Bikini?”
“I was swimming before I called,” Willow said.
“In a bikini?”
“Yes,” Willow giggled. “I needed a new swimsuit and was stupid enough to take Buffy with me and she talked me into buying this bikini, which I’m not one hundred percent comfortable in, but I think I look okay in it cause I’ve gotten a lot of compliments on it.”
“Compliments from who?” Tara asked slightly jealous.
“Just random people here. Hey, no worries, I don’t care how many boys whistle at me.”
“Of course you don’t you’re a lesbian,” Tara stated a bit sharply.
“Or girls,” Willow said. “You’re it for me, and if you need proof of that, I’ll model it for you when you come here.”
“Okay,” Tara said perking up.
“You really want me to model it?”
“Oh yeah,” Tara said. “It’s only fair, I showed you a little skin, remember?”
“I remember,” Willow said. “I still owe you for that, and not in a modeling a skimpy bikini kind of way either.”
“Are you a ‘don’t get mad, get even,’ person?” Tara asked.
“Yes.”
“I think I’m in trouble.”
“Yes, you are, but good trouble,” Willow said. “I’m not some big scary crazy person. No evilness here.”
“I beg to differ. You are flaunting the fact that you are in a skimpy bikini when you know I can’t see you. That’s evil if I’ve ever seen it.”
“It would only be evil if I weren’t going to show you, and I will show you someday. If you can be a good girl until then of course.”
“I can be good, but there isn’t much fun in that, now is there?” Tara said coyly. She loved flirting with Willow. It just came so naturally when talking to the red head.
“Okay, this conversation is definitely bordering on spicy talk,” Willow said fanning herself with her unused hand. “I think I need another dip in the cold ocean.”
“I don’t know what you’re talking about,” Tara giggled.
“Really? Let me see if I can explain it… being bad is fun, there’s nothing better than slipping out of a wet bathing suit and laying in the sun to dry off, especially laying there with someone else, bodies touching ever so lightly, glancing at the silhouette of her body out of the corner of your eye, smelling the faint scent of lavender in her blonde hair, thinking of all the things you’d like to do to her… “ Willow trailed off.
“Ummm… I get it now,” Tara said swallowing hard.
“I’m glad you understand,” Willow smirked. “Do you need a cold shower now?”
“Forget the shower, I need a plane ride to you,” Tara said before she could stop herself.
“My job here is done.”
“Not yet,” Tara said. “Did I say that out loud?”
“Yes,” Willow giggled. “I hope I can turn you on as much in person as I can on the phone.”
“You don’t have anything to worry about,” Tara admitted blushing.
“Really… are you having naughty dreams about me?” Willow asked boldly.
“I think I’ll plead the fifth on that, I’m blushing enough already.”
“You are too cute,” Willow said. “No pressure or anything, but I hope you come ASAP.”
“I’ll do my best,” Tara said. “I think I might need that cold shower.”
“I guess I should get back to my friends. I told them I’d just be a minute. I came back to the tent for some shorts. I’m gonna go get my dance on.”
“While you’re dancing you can picture water dripping off my wet, naked body. I’ll talk to you tomorrow, Willow.”
“Umm… yeah… naked… tomorrow,” Willow managed to squeak out.
“Sweet dreams, my love,” Tara said hanging up the phone. Pay back did feel pretty good.

Hi!
I have been reading this story for a while now. I only joined today though but I am really enjoing this story. Taylor is a real cutie...Just had to add that. I love the phone conversations. This story makes me smile :sigh Please update soon!
I like hearing myself talk. It is one of my greatest pleasures. I often have long conversations all by myself, and I am so clever that sometimes I don't understand a single word of what I am saying.

If a kiss was a raindrop... I'd send you showers. If hugs were a second... I'd send you hours. If smiles were water... I'd send you the sea. If friendship was a person... I'd send you me.

Well that was a very cute and touching update. I'm impressed with Taylor for expressing herself so well and with Tara for respecting children and that Taylor has to come first. The conversation between W/T was adorable. I'm looking forward to reading their meeting.

Halfacamel,
So having established that Willow and Tara's union can be sensed and acted upon even from the virtual to the physical worlds, now you must take a certain pride in offering proof that Tara, like any number of other women who just happen to be lesbians, has instinctual mothering and nurturing abilities.
Her interaction with Taylor reveals why she is innately the most sympathetic and soothing presence that anyone looks to for guidance.

“I know that when I don’t feel good I always want my Mom, and I’m a grown up,” Tara said trying to comfort the little girl.
“You do?”
“Oh yeah, everyone does.”

Tara has a wealth of insight and a keen knowledge of universal truths regarding how to remain calm and secure in this uncertain time we live in.
Her subsequent conversation with Willow embraces how willingly they both are craving the first tactile skin on skin sensation from the other.
Lots of yummy sensory imagery of Tara naked in the shower too.
I can deny chicks in chainmail nothing.

Aww, I felt so sorry for Taylor being all scared and wanting her mommy, but it was so sweet the way Tara was able to comfort her. That's a very good sign for the future for all three of them. It's so important when entering a relationship when you have children that the new potential love interest truly understands the parent/child connection, that they don't see it as a threat, just that there's enough love for everyone, and it can make them all stronger.

And wow, their phone conversations are getting kinda steamy. Even started making my glasses fog up. I can't wait for them to meet, although when they do I hope it's not awkward and they don't rush anything, but I'm sure with our girls all will be well.

Can't wait to see what's next.

cute chapter! I really enjoyed the convo at the end between Willow and Tara. And Taylor was really sweet and obviously upset when she called Tara...but Tara seemed able to smooth things over fairly easy. Good for her..she'll make a great Mommy. :smash And Tara's going to go and visit Willow which makes more sense, since she's the one without a child.

When Tara was asking Willow if she'd be uncomfortable having Tara visit her at the house what with Taylor and all, I found it kind of funny that Willow instantly took that to relate to the state of her house instead of the fact that a virtual stranger (even if she feels like she knows Tara) from online will be in her house with her daughter(not that there's any danger in this situation tho' ).

lovin' the story. Keep the updates comin' :)

I'm sorry guys. I know you really want an update, but for the time being I am still without internet. The good news is that I should be getting it back around the first of October, so keep your fingers crossed for me. I'm still writing the fic though so I'll have lots of updates when I can finally post them. :)

I really love this fanfic. It's so cute. I think Taylor is absolutely adorable and Willow and Tara both together are really sweet. :)
I hope you get your internet back soon!

I just find it funny that the title of your fic is Internet Connections yet you are having problems with your internet connection. ;-) Quoting Willow, Irony is kind of ironic that way. Well, I hope that the problem gets fixed soon 'cause I am really anticipating this fic.

Kudos to you!

I couldn't fall asleep last night so I read your entire story in one sitting. You've managed to capture the essence of our favourite Wiccans chatter and I loved reading their interchanges. I could totally picture them saying those things to each other.

"Mommy, are you thinking with your feet again?"

I love this! What a way to tie your story together with repeated images or ideas.

I liked how agonized Tara was about making the call to Willow for the first time, saying she can be all clever and flirtatious when she has time to think and rewrite what she's saying. What a perfect capture of Tara!

I'm in perfect agreement with everyone else:

MORE PLEASE!

Can you believe it? I finally posted an update! :pinky I'm sorry it took this long, but now that my internet is back it won't take so long. Don't hate me, but I totally messed up cause I could have posted this last week, but in my stupidity I've been avidly working on what I thought was the next part to be posted, when I realized it wasn't. At least I was working on the fic though. :) I'll try to better from now on. I hope this was worth waiting for, and since you've all been so patient I'll give you a little spoiler, there are some great things coming in the next few updates. I might even need a rating hike. ;-)

Technically day six:

Tara tried to sleep, she really did. She had lay in her bed for at least an hour staring up at her ceiling and trying to get the picture of Willow in a bikini out of her head, but nothing seemed to be working. She tried to think about work, about what happened at the club when she came out to Marie, hell, she even tried thinking of frogs, but nothing could push that thought away. Finally she had given up and gotten out of bed to check her work schedule. At least she could start planning on when she’d be able to go see Willow. She skimmed over her schedule, shaking her head at some upcoming meetings, but then she saw it: VACATION. The word appeared like an oasis in the desert. Tara had completely forgotten that she asked for two days off this month in an effort to use up her vacation days before she lost them. She always ended up trying to cram them in during December because her company didn’t believe in rollover days, but this year she had spread them out two at a time so she wouldn’t be in that situation again. She smiled brightly at the illuminated computer screen. She had a four day weekend coming up this week. It was so soon though, could she get ready to visit Willow by then? Would it even be okay with Willow if she came on such short notice? It wouldn’t even be a week away that she’d be leaving. She could actually leave Wednesday afternoon when she got off work, then she’d have all day Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, and if she left Sunday night, she’d still get home with plenty of time to get a good night’s rest before starting work on Monday. In the back of her mind she knew it was three o’clock in the morning, but with the prospect of seeing Willow so soon looming in front of her she automatically reached for her phone. As she dialed Willow’s number the time finally hit her over the head and she quickly hung up the receiver. She couldn’t call Willow this late at night, or this early in the morning, it was crazy, even burgeoning on insane. She paced around her bedroom trying not to call Willow, trying to think of anything she could do that would fill the time until calling Willow wouldn’t seem so crazy. The problem was there was nothing to do. She wasn’t an infomercial kind of girl, and the sleeping thing hadn’t exactly panned out either.
‘What do people at do at three in the morning,’ Tara thought, ‘I’ve never in my life been up this late or at least that I remember anyway. Would calling Willow really be that crazy? This is pretty exciting news, and the sooner I can start making arrangements the better, I mean there really isn’t a lot of time for finding a good deal on a plane ticket and hotel room, buying a suitable piece of luggage so that I don’t look like an old bag lady, and… clothes. I’ll need new clothes, I can’t go looking like this, I need something sexy to wear, and pajamas, cause I can’t sleep in my old ratty stuff. Oh, this is too soon, I can’t be ready in time, but there is no way I’m going wait any longer and then I’d only be able to stay a weekend, this is just too good to pass up. I just have to know, I’ll never sleep if I don’t know, of course once I do know and she says yes, I won’t sleep then either, but it would SO be worth it.’ Tara grabbed the phone again and hastily dialed Willow’s number so she wouldn’t have time to change her mind again. After the fifth ring she was convinced Willow was sound asleep and wouldn’t be picking up her phone. Tara needed to think of some kind of message to leave the red head.
“Hello,” a groggy voice said answering the phone.
“Hi, it’s Tara.”
“Hi,” Willow said perking up a bit. The realization of the late hour dawned on her and she immediately went into panic mode thinking the worst. Why else would Tara be calling her at this hour. “Why are you calling so late, is something wrong? Are you okay? Did you get in some kind of accident?” Willow asked hurriedly, concern filling her voice.
“No, no nothing like that, I’m okay,” Tara said quickly. How sweet was Willow to be so worried about her. “I just had a question to ask you and then you can go back to sleep cause I think I woke you up.”
“You did, but it’s all good. I like getting woken up by you,” Willow smiled as she crawled out of the tent. She didn’t want to disturb Buffy by talking on the phone. “So what’s this big important question?”
“Well… I actually have a four day weekend coming up this week, or next week depending on how you look at it. I forgot that I had taken this coming Thursday and Friday off and I was just wondering if that’s too soon to come visit you?”
“Are you kidding? This is great! You’re really gonna be coming to California in like… a week?”
“Yeah, that is if you still want me to,” Tara said.
“You couldn’t tell by my response that I want you to. You could’ve just shown up on my door with a box of killer bees and you would’ve still been welcome in my house. This is so exciting… we’re gonna see each other in a week. We’re gonna be able to kiss in a week.”
“I know,” Tara said biting her lower lip. The more Willow talked the more nervous the blond became.
“I’m sensing something is amiss, what’s wrong? Don’t you want to come?” Willow asked.
“Yes… oh yes, I want to come be with you, it’s just the more time I have to think about it, the more nervous I’m getting,” Tara said.
“Why? I mean I get the jittery nerve kinda thing, I have that too, but like nervous, nervous, apprehensive even?” Willow asked.
“Yes that,” Tara said unable to help the giggle that escaped listening to Willow trying to redefine nervous by using the word nervous.
“Do I scare you?”
“No, you don’t scare me. I scare me,” Tara admitted. “I’m not going to lie to you Willow; I’m not good at this kind of stuff. It’s been a really long time since I’ve dated anyone. I mean a long time, since high school, so I’m afraid that I won’t know how to do anything.”
“Anything meaning?”
“Anything,” Tara said again, almost afraid to go into more detail, but knowing that if she wanted Willow to understand, she would have to. “I… I’ve only dated one person, and that was senior year in high school. The most we ever did was sneak kisses here and there. After graduation we went our separate ways, and I’m not a very social person, I don’t make friends easy. My mom always said I was super duper shy,” Tara said smiling, “So I’m afraid that I won’t know how to kiss you or you know, do anything else with you, once it gets that far I mean. I’m scared I’ll do something totally stupid and wrong and… I just want everything to be perfect so you’ll be happy with me.”
“Wow,” Willow said, “I mean that in a good way,” she quickly added. “You don’t have to worry about me being happy with you, because I already am. I don’t want to sound like Miss. Know-it-all or like I’m big experience woman, but from what I do know, it just comes, you know? There is no right way to kiss someone, no right or wrong way to make love to someone. You just feel it when it happens. Just because I’ve done more kissing and more…well… you know, doesn’t mean I’m not nervous about that stuff too. I think about it all the time. Well not all the time cause I’m not like obsessed with sex or anything like that. It’s just that you’re a really attractive woman who I happen to be head over heels for, so I think it’s only normal to be thinking about making love to you… I’m sorry, where was going with this? Oh yeah, I remember now,” Willow giggled before continuing with her original thought. “I wonder if I’m gonna know how you like to be kissed, or where you like to be touched. I’m scared I’ll do something and you’ll push me away. It’s natural to feel all that in the beginning of any relationship. The important thing to remember is that you’ll know. When we see each other and hold each other for the first time, you’ll just know. It’s like a sudden epiphany, and then bam you’re kissing and it’s great.”
“What if there is no bam?”
“There’s always a bam,” Willow said smiling. “I get a bam every time I look at your picture.”
“Okay, that kind of bam I know,” Tara giggled. “Is this okay? Are you okay with everything I said?”
“You mean about the zero experience thing right?”
“Yeah,” Tara said blushing.
“Yeah, I’m great with it. I know it’s silly and that nothing has happened yet, and maybe it won’t even though I find that impossible to believe, but I like it. I like knowing that when I make love to you for the first time nobody else has been there before. It’s this wonderful secret I get to keep all to myself. I feel like I must be someone special if you chose to give yourself to me. Is that crazy?”
“No,” Tara said reverently, “it’s not crazy at all. I guess I never really thought of it that way. I always thought it was something negative. I just assumed there was something so profoundly wrong with me that nobody would ever want to be intimate with me. I always try to hide behind this wall, so that nobody will know that inside I’m just scared. I want to have all these things that I was afraid I’d never have. I just wanted to protect myself from getting hurt again, and you can’t get hurt if you never open up to anyone. And then you come along and I’ve already shared so much with you, more than anyone else ever. For the first time in my life I think about all those things I wanted and they aren’t just a dream anymore. I actually believe I’m getting them because of you. You make me feel special because you always accept what I give you.”
“Wow, again,” Willow said. “I’ve never met anyone who could speak so beautifully. I feel the same way about it really happening you know, like it’s not just some crazy dream or fantasy I have. No pressure though, I don’t want you to think I think I’m expecting us to make love the very first time I see you. I don’t expect that, even before I knew what I know now. I want us to take our time and really be ready for it to happen, especially now since it will be your first time. It should be amazing for you.”
“It will be, because it will be with you. I don’t feel pressure. I know you aren’t just trying to get in my pants or something like that,” Tara giggled.
“No, not exactly anyway,” Willow teased. “I obviously do want to get there, but you are most definitely something worth waiting for. I just realized this is the first time we’ve talked about sex. Not that it’s weird or anything. It is after all only day six of our growing relationship, but I guess because it feels more like day 600, it just seems like something we would have already talked about it.”
“I know exactly what you mean, only I think it feels much more like day 601,” Tara laughed.
“Ha ha… you know you should watch that teasing. Don’t forget in a week you’re going to be at my house and I’ll be able to get even with you in person,” Willow teased back.
“Is that a threat? Should I be scared now?”
“Yes, you should be trembling in your bunny slippers,” Willow said.
“I don’t have bunny slippers,” Tara said looking down at her cold bare feet.
“Oh… well then… you should just be trembling,” Willow giggled. “So since you brought it up and all, what are you wearing?”
“I don’t remember bringing that up, bikini girl.”
“Yeah you did, you said no bunny slippers, which means you aren’t wearing any, so if no bunny slippers what are you wearing?”
“Nothing,” Tara responded.
“You… you’re… naked,” Willow gulped.
“No,” Tara couldn’t help but laugh at the cute redhead, “I meant that I’m not wearing anything on my feet. You know because you asked what I was wearing if it wasn’t bunny slippers.”
“Oh…again with the embarrassment for me,” Willow said. “I don’t suppose we can pretend I never said that.”
“No, I’m sorry I can’t,” Tara said teasingly. “What are you wearing?”
“I’m going to be nice to you and not tease you like you did me. I’m wearing shorts and a tank top.”
“That sounds nice. Do you always sleep in that?”
“No, usually I wear a really big tee shirt, but seeing as how I’m at a beach with like sixty other people, most of whom I don’t know, and that I’m sharing a tent with Buffy I decided shorts were a necessity. I’m not into showing random people my Winnie the pooh underwear,” Willow said babbling on a bit.
“Winnie the pooh, eh?”
“I really need to develop some sort of control mechanism for my mouth so I stop saying embarrassing things.”
“I think it’s cute, and just because of that I’ll be embarrassed too. I usually sleep in a night gown, which is similar to a big tee shirt only longer and well… made to be sleepwear.”
“And your underwear?” Willow prodded.
“You wish. You’re just gonna have to wait for that,” Tara said.
“I won’t have to wait long. You are coming in a week.”
“And you think you’ll be seeing them then?”
“No I don’t think I will, I know I will,” Willow stated knowingly.
“I thought there was no pressure.”
“There isn’t. I’m going to look in your suitcase,” Willow stated. “Didn’t I ever tell you that I was really nosey?”
“No,” Tara said. “Are you serious? You’d really look through my suitcase to find my underwear?”
“Okay, I guess not, but I can hope that you’ll willingly show me a pair. It doesn’t have to be the ones you’re wearing, but that would be okay if you did want to show me those. I’m pretty sure that would make my entire life.”
“If my underwear can make your entire life, what’s going to happen when we do make love?”
“I’ll probably die, but I know I’d be dieing the happiest person in the world.”
“You’re quite the charmer, do you know that?”
“I’m just being me. I’ve found that it works out much better when I just be myself,” Willow said smiling; she turned to look out toward the ocean and noticed the sun beginning to rise. “The sun is rising,” she told Tara.
“I noticed that too. I’m sorry I woke you up.”
“I’m not. We’re seeing our first sunrise together. I don’t really know what your view is there is Seattle, but here it’s just lovely. I wish you were here with me now so you could see it too.”
“Me too,” Tara replied dreamily. “One day we’ll have to take a trip together and we can walk on the beach hand in hand at sunset and sunrise.”
“I like the sound of that,” Willow said.
“I do too; it’s nice to think about future stuff. I never really did that too often before I met you. I guess it’s just more fun when you can picture it with someone.”
“Yeah… I was having a dream about you when you woke me up. Do you wanna hear about it?”
“Yes,” Tara said eagerly.
“Okay, I’m not exactly sure where we were but we were lying together in bed, cuddling and talking. It looked like it was early morning, and then Taylor and another little girl ran into the room and jumped on the bed and called us Mommys. In the dream her name was Sierra. It was pretty awesome. I usually don’t have dreams like that, but it was nice.”
“It sounds nice, very nice,” Tara said.
“So what are you’re plans for today?”
“Well… now that I know I’m coming there I need to do some shopping, find a kitty sitter, make flight arrangements, and book a hotel room.”
“Why do you need a hotel room?” Willow asked confused.
“So I have somewhere to sleep when I come,” Tara said a little unsure of Willow’s confusion.
“I thought you were going to stay here. Not like sleep in bed with me or anything if we weren’t comfy with that, but at least stay here in the apartment. You could take my bed and I could sleep in Taylor’s room with her.”
“I don’t want to take your bed. You shouldn’t have to give it up because I’m coming,” Tara said.
“Do I have any say in this matter at all?” Willow asked.
“Yes.”
“Then I really want you to stay at the apartment with me. We’ll get to see each other more if you stay there. No commuting for visits. Please say you’ll stay with me.”
“Okay, I’ll stay with you,” Tara said beaming.
“Really?” Willow asked hopefully.
“Yes, really. You made some very convincing points, especially being able to spend more time together.”
“Is there anything special you want to do while you’re here? Maybe some place you really want to visit or something. We can do whatever you want to do,” Willow said already starting to plan an itinerary in her head.
“I want do stuff that you normally do. Nothing special, you know, so I can see the real you. If you get groceries on Saturday then we’ll go to the grocery store, that kind of thing,” Tara said really eager to share Willow’s life with her.
“Okay we can do that, but are you sure that you don’t want to go somewhere special. It’s totally okay with me if we take a day trip somewhere. I can always get Xander or Buffy to watch Taylor for the day. She won’t stay over night with them, but during the day she’s great.”
“Would you normally do that?”
“Well… no. I don’t normally take day trips by myself,” Willow said. “I just want to make sure that you have a great time while you’re here.”
“I will, and if I get there and think of somewhere I want to go, I’ll tell you, deal?”
“Deal,” Willow said. “I think I’m going to burst I’m so excited. I feel like there’s so much I want to do before you come, like clean, and clean,” Willow laughed.
“It’s really not necessary,” Tara said. “I understand what living with a four year old can be like. I’m fine with stains on the carpet and coloring on the walls.”
“That’s good,” Willow said, “because those juice stains are never coming out, and the crayon washes off okay, but the marker… there’s no hope for that either.”
“I’m sure it’s a great piece of art.”
“No… it’s just a bunch of scribbles on the living room wall. She did it when she was two and a half and it’s been there ever since. It’s quite a focal point in the room. I get lots of comments on it. I’m sure that if I ever move out of the apartment the landlord will have some things to say.”
“That’s what security deposits are for anyway,” Tara laughed. “You wouldn’t think it because I’m single with no kids, but I have my fair share of stains in this apartment. There’s a big one under the sofa, which is why the sofa is where it is now. It was like maybe a month after I moved in and I had just gotten Miss. Kitty, something spooked her and she dumped an entire jar of really deep purple paint that I was using for a decorative touch on one of the walls. And because she is a cat, she ran through it and got little purple paw prints all over the apartment. I don’t think there was a place she didn’t touch. I had the carpet cleaned and most of the paw prints came out, but not the big one, so I just moved the couch. And I also have some paw prints on the wall to remind me of that day. I think they’re kinda cute.”
“Wow, I would’ve thought it would be spotless. I thought cats were supposed to be very clean animals.”
“Apparently I got the one cat in the world that doesn’t know that,” Tara said. “Do you know we’ve been talking for five hours?”
“I hope you have a really good long distance plan,” Willow joked.
“I do,” Tara said. “I always used to wonder why I had it, now I’m glad that I didn’t cancel it when I was going to. I guess I should go though. I do have a lot to do today and the rest of the week to get ready. I don’t want to keep you from your friends either, or from sleep.”
“I couldn’t possibly sleep right now. I’m way too excited for that. I guess I should wander back over to the tent and see if Buffy is up. She doesn’t know where I am and she might be worried. Knowing her though she probably thinks I just hooked up with someone and I’m in their tent. As long as we’ve known each other and she still doesn’t get that I’m not like her and I would never do that,” Willow said. “I was kinda surprised she came back last night. I was certain I’d have the whole tent to myself.”
“You don’t like sharing?”
“Not with Buffy,” Willow said. “For a little person she’s surprisingly strong and she kicks in her sleep, and there’s also the ridiculously loud snoring. If I didn’t know better I would have thought a train was coming through the tent.”
“I hope I don’t snore.”
“You don’t know?”
“No, I’ve never shared a bed or a room with someone,” Tara said finally not embarrassed to admit that to Willow.
“Well I’ll let you know when you come. I’ll sneak in the middle of the night and if you are snoring I’ll tell you in the morning.”
“Or you could just let me go on not knowing so I won’t be embarrassed if you heard me snoring.”
“Oh, that’s no fun,” Willow giggled. “Okay, I totally got us off track again. Saying goodbye to you is so hard.”
“I know what you mean. I hate saying goodbye, but on the plus side, it means we get to say hello again later,” Tara said.
“That’s true,” Willow said. “I still need to call Taylor too and check on her. I’d really like to know how she got your cell number. She’s so sneaky and way too smart.”
“When you find out let me know. I don’t mind her calling at all, I’m just curious,” Tara said. “Okay we have to say goodbye, so I can book a flight.”
“Yes, that is a great reason to say goodbye. If you don’t get a flight you won’t be able to come. Let me know what time your flight is arriving and I’ll pick you up at the airport.”
“I will and thank you for doing that.”
“It’s not like I’d make you walk,” Willow teased.
“I know, and you know what I meant, smarty pants.”
“Hee hee… I know, just couldn’t resist,” Willow said. “Okay I’ll call you later, what number should I call?”
“If you call after nine call my house, and if it’s before nine call my cell cause I know I’ll be out shopping today and there’s really no way of knowing how long I’ll be gone.”
“Okay I’ll try to remember this time,” Willow said. “Get me something while you’re shopping.”
“Like what?”
“I don’t know, surprise me,” Willow perkily said.
“Okay, I will,” Tara giggled. “I guess we really have to say goodbye this time.”
“It appears that way,” Willow said.
“Alright… I’ll talk to you later then,” Tara frowned.
“I love you,” Willow said boldly.
“I love you too,” Tara said smiling again.
“Goodbye, Tara, I’ll call you later.”
“Goodbye my Willow, I’ll be waiting for your call.”
Willow hung the phone up and burst into a huge smile. Tara was coming and she had to get ready.
