New fic; Point of Origin

Postby Magrat70 » Tue Jul 02, 2002 3:33 pm

Title: Point of Origin.

Author: Magrat

Ratings: R for some slight suggestion of violence

Spoilers: Up to end of season 6 but mostly season 4

Notes: Everybody who writes fic seems to want to do it so here is my (probably terrible) attempt to fill in those gaps in Season 4

Point of Origin prologue

A small, pretty, tousled haired girl runs into her house full of excitement “Mom, mom Jessie’s cats had kittens and he…”

Her father stands in the middle of the living room grim faced, replacing the belt into his trousers. Her mother is lying sobbing on the floor black-blue welts already showing on her arms and legs. “Theresa I don’t want do these things but you’ve got to stop practising magic, it’s how the monster shows itself and what sort of example are you setting Tara”

“Mom…”

“Tara get out of here,” said her father.

The little girl ignores him her blue eyes full of pain and upset, just starring at her prostrate mother.

“Don’t disobey me girl,” said her father suddenly looming over her.

“S-sorry S-sir” said the little girl and fled from the house.

**********************************

“Mom can he come for dinner please?”

“Willow, I don’t believe this Alistair Harris is your intellectual equal,” said Sheila Rosenberg.

“Oh for goodness sake Sheila she is only five years old…”

“Ira he isn’t Jewish” said Sheila.

“His name is Alexander but he likes to be called Xander,” said Willow patiently.

Her parents carry on talking ignoring her remarks.

***********************************

“Freak” said Donny “that’s all you are”

“G-go away Donny” said the gawky teenager.

“G-go away Donny” imitates her brother “Freak, I’m going to tell dad that I saw you with magic stuff and he’ll beat you down for sure”

“D-Donny I wasn’t doing anything,” said Tara.

“Tell that to Dad, freak” said Donny his voice full of venom and hatred.

****************************

“Willow, Amy do you want too have lunch with us” said Harmony.

“You want us to sit with you?” said Willow looking incredulous.

“No, stupid we want the other Willow and Amy. Who else do you think we meant?” said Cordelia. “We’ve a ton of homework to do and seeing as you two don’t have an actual life, we thought, we’d do you a favour and let you sit in the popular zone in exchange for doing our homework.”

*****************************

“Ashes to ashes, dust to dust” intoned the minister.

Tara turned away knowing the only comfort in her life had gone. She looks round the graveside and finds no comfort in the face of the male members of her family.

After the funeral she received a small letter from her mother’s lawyer.

“I’m sorry my darling Tara,

I have never been able to protect you from you’re Dad and brother but I have managed to save a little money and with the insurance policy in your name I’m hoping you will be able to go away to college,

Live your life for me.

Your ever loving mother.

**************************************

“I can’t let you do that” said Buffy sitting at the espresso pump.

“I told you U.C Sunnydale isn’t that bad a college and I want to fight the good fight with you,” said Willow “Anyway I want to go to Uni with all my friends."

How very cool, Mags! It's like Willow and Tara are starting from that one point...a place where the both are coming from: shared pain, heartache and a sort of longing to find peace. I can't wait to see where you go with this.

Love is tricky. It is never mundane or daily. You can never get used to it. You have to walk with it, then let it walk with you. You can never balk. It moves you like the tide. It takes you out to sea then lays you on the beach again. Today's struggling pain is the foundation for a certain stride through the heavens. You can run from it but you can never say no. Title: Point of Origin part 1

Author: Magrat

Spoilers: Season 4 up Something Blue and things from Season 5 ep Family.

Ratings: PG: 13

Point of Origin part 1

Tara watched in amazement at the madness of the first day of term at U.C Sunnydale. She herself had arrived early for induction and had got all the classes she had wanted. She had been ticketed by lots of different groups and had made the decision that she was going to do her best to join some and make friends; not that she really expected anyone would want to be her friend.

She hadn’t been at all surprised to find that she had been given a room on her own. Tara had hoped that she would have a roommate and maybe be able to learn what it was like to live a real life before… She didn’t want to have to think about it. The coming of age had been drummed into her since she was a little girl.

****************************

“Hey Buffy” said Willow her face shinning with excitement. “They have a Wicca group on campus.

“That’s cool Will,” said Buffy. “You gonna join?”

“I’ll go to orientation and see,” said Willow. “It’ll be nice to meet another witch apart from poor little fluffy Amy.”

“Any luck in finding a spell to change her back?” asked the slayer.

“Nope but who knows I might find someone who can come up with some new ideas” said the redhead grinning.

“What’s your roomie like?” asked Buffy.

“A party animal, but I’ll deal, how about you?” asked Willow.

“I don’t know she seems a bit hyper but I’m sure she’ll be alright. Although if she carries on playing Celine Dion I’m may have to slay her.” giggles the slayer.

*******************************

Tara pushed her hair back away from her brow surveying the job she had done. She knew technically it was against the rules but now that she had finally escaped and had a room her very own she wanted to decorate it the way she wanted. Black paint, fairy lights and lots of different prints and pictures, it might not be to everyone’s taste but it made her feel centred and safe.

She lay on the bed staring at the leaflets she had been given. The Wicca group sounded interesting, but it was the one for the lesbian group that she kept on looking at over and over again. She knew she was gay, in fact in her life it was the one thing she had no doubts on. She smiled when she thought back to the huge crush she had had on Gillian Anderson, she liked red hair and green eyes, but did she actually have the courage to join? Stupid, stupid she chided herself she had two years left, so why not enjoy it.

************************************

Willow was distracted, as she got ready for the meeting. She couldn’t figure out how to solve the problems between herself and Oz, his mind seemed to be elsewhere at the moment. She’d asked Xander for advice but didn’t feel it had really helped.

She knew Oz was attracted to Veruca and she felt almost powerless to stop his fascination with the singer. She hoped that he would get over his little crush.

********************************************

Wow, thought Tara when she got back to her room. She had felt the power as soon as she had entered the room. There had been so many girls there that she couldn’t quite figure out where it had come from. Although she had noticed the cute redhead there but she knew she was straight, she had seen her with her small boyfriend who played in one of the campuses bands’. How come all the girls she felt attracted were all straight?

*******************************

“Buffy how do I make it stop?” said Willow sobbing.

The slayer sat on the bed with her best friend but felt powerless to stop the hurt she knew she was feeling. She had been through it herself when Angel had left but she knew that had been the right thing to do; she hadn’t had to face the betrayal that Willow had had to.

**************************************

Tara felt disappointed, not only had the power bolt not been at, what was turning out to be a meeting full of trendy girls who thought they were being rebellious by joining a Wicca group, but the cute redhead hadn’t turned up either.

One more week, she decided, one more week she’d go to the meeting and if there was nothing there to keep her interest she would leave.

*********************************************

“I’m sorry Buffy,” said Willow.

“You made me kiss Spike do you know how disgusting that was?” said the slayer.

“”No” said the contrite redhead. “But I can imagine it wasn’t very pleasant”

“Understatement” said Buffy then taking pity on the upset look on her buddy’s face. “Will, I know you’ve been through a hard time but I think it’s time to get out the room and start doing stuff again. What about the Wicca group?”

“I didn’t think you’d want me anywhere near magic” countered the redhead.

“”I don’t think magic is your problem. Maybe if you could find a new friend or interest it may help take your mind off Oz. I don’t think you should be dwelling on him right know.” said Buffy.

“Okay I’ll give it one more go Buffy but I don’t think it’ll help” shrugged the hacker.

Can I say thanks for everyone who has been so kind so far but I just wanted to add one thing. I love Will and Tara and I love this board and the people on it and I do believe that we are the only people who keep their love alive.

I have posted this partly because of what Jen' said about them being our girls and partly because I believe what Xita has stated about this place being untouched by M.E and hell i've been at difficult equal opps meetings all day so this probaly isn't making any sense so feel free to ignore it. :grin

Awww... you're so sweet. Thank you. I believe in what Xita said, too. No matter how heart wrenching and heart stomping it's been, they can't kill the magic that exists here. Nothing can touch that.

I really like the way you're bringing us up to the present by touching briefly on important moments of the past. Those little snapshots really work because for a moment we're there with them instead of having it being told to us in the third person.

Very cool and nifty. Keep up the great work.

Title: Point of Origin part 2-Sparks Meet

Author: Magrat

Ratings: PG: 13

Spoilers: Season 4 up to Hush and season 5 Family.

Notes: As this part is mostly based around Hush there is no dialogue, not sure if it works.

Point of Origin part 2-Sparks Meet

Tara had decided to sit on the floor during the meeting to try and seem as inconspicuous as possible. The redhead has turned up again as had the power. It was amazing the living vitality of the magic that was streaming off her in waves. Tara hadn’t felt anything like it…well not since her mother died.

She couldn’t keep her eyes off Willow that was what they had called her. Willow, such a pretty name almost as pretty as the girl herself. She mentally shook her head, why try to kid herself, a girl like that wouldn’t be interested in even being friends with a social outcast like her.

************************

Willow was getting more and more annoyed as the meeting went on. Blessed wanna be’s all of them. She had suggested doing spells, transmogrify etc and they had all just made fun out of her. No, thought Willow they’re had been that one shy girl who had looked like she was going to agree with her but then had been bullied into being quiet.

Willow looked at her huddled on the floor trying to make herself as small as possible. It reminded her of how she had been before Buffy came along. Interesting that she had actually lifted her head and looked interested when she had suggested spells maybe she would look her up later. Tara the other girls had called her.

*************************

The young blonde witch entered her bedroom and laid down on the bed. Willow, she smiled even at the thought of her, how could she manage to meet her again? She had a feeling the redhead wouldn’t be turning up to the Wicca group again.

Why was she thinking this way? She could feel a crush starting. This was madness; she had seen Willow around campus with her pretty blonde buddy and the dark guy who seemed to be always around but as far as Tara could tell wasn’t an actual student here. Someone like that wouldn’t even need her to be her friend never mind want her and as for anything else well that was just impossible, something that wouldn’t ever happen.

***********************************

Willow tried to sleep. She felt confused, for once in her life she had no direction. She had thought university was going to be great. When she started at U.C Sunnydale she had had a boyfriend, her studies were going well and she had hoped her witchy abilities would improve but instead here she was no boyfriend, Buffy out doing her in some of their classes and the Wicca group; well she couldn’t even express what she felt about them.

Except for Tara, she remembered just for a second catching the blonde’s eye when she had shook her head and not expressed herself. Those blue eyes seemed so intense, Willow shivered at the thought of them, strange why would she…maybe she was coming down with something, that would explain it.

***************************

Tara walked from room to room watching all the other students seeming so low and depressed because of the their second day of enforced silence and then there had been the murder of the male student who had his heart ripped out.

Magic it had to be magic, what else could it be. She couldn’t imagine what sort of creature could cast something like this and be capable of that kind of violence and in the back of her mind was the horrible dark thought that maybe that was how she would become when the demon took over.

She decided that she would spend the afternoon looking for spells that may help cure it. She may become evil when she was twenty but she would do her best to help people why she still had the chance.

********************

Willow had been researching all night too no avail. She couldn’t think or find away that would get people their voices back and without voices how could they kill the gentlemen?

Her head was pounding from staring at her computer screen all night and much as she tried to keep herself awake her eyes became heavy and she was soon drifting off to sleep.

*****************************

Tara had one last look around her room before she took the chance and left. She knew she didn’t have the power on her own to work these spells and she was hoping she could make Willow understand that she needed her help.

Tara walked quickly across the campus she felt very jittery and she was so busy looking around herself she didn’t notice the step in front of her. As she gathered up her dropped books, she thought her heart was going to burst through her chest when she saw the creepy demons and their minions just behind her.

******************************************

Willow woke with a start. She could hear the desperate sound of someone pounding on doors and with a slight feeling of trepidation she opened her door to be knocked over by someone who looked like she was fleeing in terror.

Willow felt a sharp pain in her ankle but she didn’t have to time to really register it because she could see the gentleman behind the girl who had cannoned into her.

She felt gentle hands help pull her up and help support her down the stairs as the two of them fled in desperation from what would be certain death. She glanced side long at the other girl and was surprised to find it was the girl from the Wicca group, Tara.

After what seemed like forever they reached the laundry room, slammed the door and locked it. They tried to push the soda machine so that they could block the door but without any luck.

Willow fell back the pain from her ankle becoming unbearable. She tried to concentrate all her power in one blast to move the machine but she fell back, disappointment and fear gripping her over her inability to budge it one single inch.

Tara watched the redhead intently unable to believe her composure and single-minded attempt at moving the machine, when the blonde felt terrified that the door was going to give way and she just couldn’t focus at all but then everything came into a sharp focus. Willow was using her power but she wasn’t channelling properly.

Tara knelt by the hacker and tentatively touched her fingers.

Willow looked down at the fingers that were gently interlinking with her own. She then looked into blue eyes that were communicating so much to her. Then Tara pushed her palm into Willow’s, they looked at the machine and it slammed hard into the door jam.

Willow couldn’t let go of that hand, that one touch had changed her world, that electric feeling that shot through her when Tara touched her was too unbelievable for words. Who was this person and what secrets could she teach her?
