Mollig:

I LOVE Altan. I first heard them play at Telluride Bluegrass in 99 and have been a huge fan ever since. Right after the show, I went out and bought all their CDs. I tape them whenever they come to town, and have met and hung out with all the band. Mairad actually inspired me to take up the fiddle, especially after I heard A Tune for Frankie, which she wrote for her husband Frankie JFK after he died of leukemia. I think my favorite Irish group ever though is the Bothy Band. I had a funny conversation with Matt Malloy backstage at a Chieftains show in January about getting the Bothy Band together again, and his basic response was "Why?"

What County do you live in? Do you speak Gaelic? I've tried to learn, but it is hard when you can't practice with someone else every day. Do you have any good sessions nearby?

First concert - Michael Jackson's Victory Tour. It was really awesome.

My favorite though was the Indigo Girls and yes, I'll admit it, Liza Minnelli.

My first concert was Tori Amos (*sigh*) during her "Little Earthquakes" tour.

Willow and Tara's first? Marilyn Manson. I'm sure of it.

[b:8e0fac2bb4] Sally[/b:8e0fac2bb4], not that it's really rock, but I could SO see Willow going to see Tom Lehrer. I love "That's Mathematics", and I think that Willow would be amused by it, too, except might argue with the Andrew Wiles thing.

[b:8e0fac2bb4] famer [/b:8e0fac2bb4]: Klezmer? I don't really see Willow's mom being into that at all. I think that she might have a problem with perceived mysogeny in orthodox jewish culture, and see Klezmer music as a representation of that. (Also, as a point of note, most Israelis don't listen to Klezmer music, but you're right, many american jews do, seeing it as a back to roots type of thing.)

Yep I'm going to date myself here....my very first concert was Patti Labelle and the Bluebells at the Forrest Theater in 1971. :lol She wore all these cool sequined gowns and feathers and I swear there was not a straight man in the house. She was a diva even then.

My favourite concerts were Rush's Roll the Bones tour in Philly, Billy Joel's Storm Front Tour in Philly, Tori Amos' very FIRST concert ever when Little Earthquakes first came out (it was a tiny tiny little theater in MD and I sat next to her dad), the Indigo Girls at Franklin & Marshall College in Lancaster, PA, the WHFS Festival in MD (talk about a wild ass Woodstockian experience LOL), Michael W. Smith at Hersheypark arena (the incredible Margaret Becker opened for him), David Meece at LVC (my school at the time), LIVE at LVC, Pat Benatar here in Amarillo (that was SUCH a kickass concert), Michael Hedges, Spyro Gyra, David Sanborn, Luther Vandross, Aretha Franklin (the show to end ALL shows), Natalie Cole and Gladys Knight in Las Vegas (just recently...Natalie was at the Paris and Gladys was at the Flamingo), and so many others I can barely count.

Music in any form is a wonderous experience and I've been to very few concerts that haven't moved me in some measure. I'm sure that W/T feel the same way. Like you couldn't tell by my fic or anything ;)

What? I was part of a cultural phenomenon, the like of which had not been seen since the Beatles. And who can deny the vocal brilliance of Matt Goss on hits like I Owe You Nothing (complete with grunt), Cat Among the Pigeons and Silent Night?

Erm. Yeah. Okay, quite a few people. The only thing keeping me going is the kinship I now feel with Pipsqueak :) NKOTB, sigh. Truly the Right Stuff.

Ahem. Moving along now.

Speaking of music, I note that The Breeders will be on Buffy, playing their take on the Buffy theme -- www.drownedinsound.com/audio.php

Turns out one of the Buffy producers is a huge Breeders fan.

Here's to hoping the lesbian (or is it lesbian-positive) musicians will give BTVS an earful when they get there.

Wow, the Breeders...Kim and Kelly Deal. Geez and whatever happened to Frank Black, the Charlatans UK, Jesus Jones, the Judybats, Danielle Ash, Sisters of Mercy, Xymox and all those other quirky little groups of the early 90's? God I feel like an old fart. It could be worse. I could be lamenting the loss of the Thompson Twins, Morrissey, the Smiths, Kirsty MacColl (god rest her lovely soul), Falco and many other interesting music influences.

But alas my first 3 concerts ended up being: Alice Cooper (Billion $$ Babies), John Denver (Rocky Mtn High) and Heart (Dreamboat Annie / Little Queen). All of them at Red Rocks long long before it was despoiled by John Tesh.

Ahhh.....Red Rocks...now [i:5736fc04b7]that[/i:5736fc04b7] brings a rush of memories. Bette Midler, U2, Springsteen (with the E Street Band), George Benson, a big Wyndham Hill celebration, and Joan Armatrading among my many, many memorable trips to that wonderful venue. (Ahhhh....Joan Armatrading...followed her from concert to concert all over the Greater Denver area.) But, before I digress, the thing about Red Rocks...didn't matter who you were there to see. It was a beautiful thing to be a part of (John Tesh notwithstanding). Could definitely see Willow and Tara just [i:5736fc04b7]being[/i:5736fc04b7]...[i:5736fc04b7]together[/i:5736fc04b7]...at Red Rocks. And probably only listening to the music somewhere in the back of their minds as they, y'know...were [i:5736fc04b7]there[/i:5736fc04b7]...[i:5736fc04b7]being[/i:5736fc04b7]...[i:5736fc04b7]together[/i:5736fc04b7]...

But so as not to avoid the question of what the first concert was that I ever attended. EWF. At McNichols Arena. I think. Damn that was a looooong time ago....

[i:5736fc04b7]Edited to insert the John Tesh disclaimer above, because, well....yikes![/i:5736fc04b7]

My first concert was ... *prepares for the laughter and pointing now* Debbie Gibson at the Garden State Performing Arts Center with my uncle.

Willow's an odd girl -- in a loveable way. So, I'm thinkin Bjork, who is also odd, yet loveable. ;)

As for Tara, I'm catching a Weezer vibe from that girl. I bet if you raided her CD collection, you'd get Green Day, Weezer, Limp Biz and ... well, everyone else you wouldn't expect from a shy girl like her. (Heh, maybe even Linkin Park ... :shock )

My first concert was Elastica at Rock City in Nottingham, I had a huge crush on Justine back then.

Earlier this year I went to see Kylie at Newcastle, that experience kept me smiling for days. That girl really knows how to wear a yard of fabric well!

As far too many kittens have not experienced the wonder of a concert at Red Rocks and may not know what the [b:6209893538] Big I T[/b:6209893538] and I are babbling about, I thought I'd at least offer visuals though no picture can begin to do it justice.

And [b:6209893538] Toni[/b:6209893538], Michael W. Smith and David Meece? I never would have guessed. ;)

Thanks RG, that place looks amazing.

I suppose the English equivalent would be, erm, Milton Keynes Bowl. If you want to see how well it [b:f7dae7f040] doesn't[/b:f7dae7f040] compare, click here www.thenationalbowl.net/ and go to the backstage section.

One redeeming factor for the old Bowl - I saw REM, Blur and Belly there one glorious summer's day a few years back. Fantastic.

And Ruth - do you mean Kylie, the teeny tiny thumbelina of a girl?

I'm pretty varied when it comes to music. I love all kinds.

My first concert was the summer after I graduated high school, my best friend and I went to see Pink Floyd's Division Bell tour. I didn't even know who they were before we got there. I mean, I had heard of them but didn't know any of their music.

Since then I've been to see:
The Cure
Pulp
Mandy Patinkin
Lilith Fair (w/ Indigo Girls, Jewel, Sheryl Crow and Sarah Mc Lachlin)
Tori Amos
Elton John
Billy Joel
Dave Matthews/Tim Reynolds (Acoustic)
Fiona Apple
Live
Rusted Root
Joan Osborne

I'm sure there are more but I can't remember them right now.

Willow: Probably went with Xander to see NKOTB or something like that.

Tara: Not sure that her Dad would have let her or her mom go to a concert so I'll say it was when she got to Sunnydale and she saw Charlotte Church because she thought it was cool for a little girl to sing so well.

Now now dear. I went through that whole "Wannabe Christian because I have no life and need friends" phase. Truthfully though I really do enjoy David Meece, Amy Grant, MWS, totally ADORE Margaret Becker (she could easily be a diva if she would just shed that whole "I don't want worldly goods" dealio ;) ) and Jill Phillps. Good heavens I'm all over the place. :lol

From what I've heard my first concert was Better Than Ezra. Unfortunately, I fell asleep during the opening band. It was this indoor concert where the ground was shaking, you couldn't hear yourself think, you couldn't see through the smoke, and personal space was a non. Somehow I slept through the whole thing.

As for the girl's concerts - who knows? I always figured they would have really eclectic taste, so...

JD...I used to love Debbie Gibson. It was the only 80s singer I listened to.

And you think my parents would have realized I was a lesbian when I begged to go see Bette Midler at Poplar Creek (Web Warlock will remember this place ) when I was 7 years old...

Besides, what's not to like about Kylie? She's tiny, she wears next to nothing and her hits are all camp disco type numbers. I don't see anything wrong with that. ;)

Ah, yes. Concerts. I remember them well.
Bette Midler in New Orleans in 1973, 1983 and 1994. I absolutely ADORE that woman.
Manhattan Transfer a couple of times through the years. They are wonderful live.
The Go Go's (mega crush on the drummer Gina Shock) and Laura Branigan (if she's not one, she's an oughta be-if you know what I mean) at the World's Fair in New Orleans in 1984.
The Pretenders, however, Chrissie Hynde IS The Pretenders to me.
Prince's Purple Rain Tour, but I really went to see Wendy and Lisa.:grin
Melissa Etheridge twice in New Orleans, once before she became mainstream.
Fleetwood Mac- I thought Stevie was full of herself, but Christine was awesome.
Tina Turner twice. She is wonderful and her legs go on forever.
The Bangles were ok.
Elton John present day I found boring. I like his old stuff before he became mainstream.
Oh, yes. How can I forget Eurythmics at McAllister Auditorium of Tulane University in New Orleans around 1984. Annie Lennox-what a woman.
Those were just off the top of my head.

Ooh, ooh, Linda-I'm getting to go see Olivia Newton John for the first time ever here in Atlanta on Friday, September 20, right before I go to Sidewalk to see Amber and Chance. I've had a major crush on ONJ since.....since...well, since before many of the Kittens were born.
For years I thought it was the smile, but that's before I knew much about gaydar.
