United States of Tara

I guess I'll start this. :)

Certainly the performance of the lead is extraordinary. The fact of the stress that her condition puts on her family seems to be generally very well handled.

The "alters" so far revealed are fascinating and amusing: "T" the teenager who never grew up and "Buck" the super-macho male. I have to admit that I got a kick out of Buck going after the guy who abused the daughter (who, btw, danced very nicely in "Coppelia" ;-) ).

Anyhow, the series seems off to a promising start (I'm looking forward to meeting the other "alters"). Other actresses have made a name for themselves playing "multiples" (Joanne Woodward, Sally Field), and I have no doubt this one will as well.

So it looks like "Alice" (or is it "Alicia") is a pretty interesting personality: June Cleaver on steroids! :lol It will be interesting to see how this continues next week. :)

So nobody's watching this fascinating, well-written and well produced show?

It's getting really interesting in that one of the "alters" seems to be getting jealous of Tara and is trying to sabotage her life!

Also, are they attempting to suggest that Marshall is gay? Not really sure about this.....

Yes, I'm watching this show, and I think it's great. Amen to the well-written, well-produced aspects, and a huge round of applause to Toni Collette. She makes me believe each and every aspect of her personality.

I missed last night, but I plan on watching it on demand later today, so that'll get me caught up.

As far as Marshall's sexuality, I really don't think that they are "attempting to suggest" that he's gay. I thought that they put it right out there, especially when Tara told him that the boy that he liked wouldn't care less that he looked pretty beat up from the bee sting incident. Even if they don't talk about it, the family sure is accepting of his less-than-masculine ways (muffins of triumph, for example), and I'm glad to see this.

I like this show a lot. And yes, I loved it when Buck kicked obnoxious Samurai boy's ass. That was very satisfying.

I've been watching it all along. Toni Collette is a goddess.

I was concerned about how they were going to handle a character with DID and I'm still withholding my judgment on that. TV shows tend to not be kind to, or realistic about, characters with serious mental health issues.

But I am not displeased so far. It seems to have struck a nice balance, showing the humorous aspects while still showing how devastating DID is.

I like the gay kid a lot. The look on his face when his crush told him he was so cute...very sweet. I do hope he's not going to get his heart stomped on. I also love that his orientation is a non-issue to the family and it looks like it's pretty much a non-issue to him, too.
