2007

Happy New Year All!

I'm not sure if a thread like this already exists, but I am curious to know if some of my fellow kittens have made New Year resolutions. If so, what are they? I know not everyone likes the notion of resolutions, so let's broaden the concept to include any kind of intention or focus you'd like to have for the coming year.

As for me, I have deemed 2007 the year of "not being afraid to take big steps." This mostly relates to my career, with a bit of fitness/nutrition spillover, and a lot of learing to act as confidant as I'd like to be. :)

What sorts of things are on other kittens minds as they start this new year?

I was thinking of the same type of thread and even went last night to look for a resolutions thread but couldn't find one. I personally like the idea of intentions better than resolutions (resolutions sound very pass or fail to me). But I have some intentions:

* Be more assertive (both at home and work).
* Keep being more fit, working out and eating right.
* Meditate more
* Make love more. Seriously, it's my wife's resolution too so that should help.
*** Possibly - Do the Danskin triathalon.

Ok, that's what's on my mind right now.

i declared 2006 my year of "yes", where i would try new things and have a more open-minded approach to life. it worked out fairly well and i heard from a lot of people that my overall attitude changed. of course, my friends learned quickly how to exploit my "yes"ing when they wanted me to do something (just like they did when they learned that i'll do anything if goaded by chanting) - i will never live down running into the freezing cold atlantic last year after being told five times, "brandy, get in the ocean. it's the year of yes." anyway, after such a successful year i don't know what to do this year. i mean, i know i'll continue to try new things and whatnot, but what will 2007 be the year of? i got a membership to a gym so fitness is one of things i'll be working on. i've never had a personal issue with my weight (i'm a big girl but have a pretty good body image, have no trouble with the ladies, etc) but as i get older i'm noticing the physical effects of carrying the extra weight and i figure it's time to do something about it, but obviously that's a long term issue that will extend beyond '07 i'm sure. some short term goals are to take and pass the bar in february and get a job. i think i'm also going to make more of an effort to have a relationship with my brother, and not just because of my new niece. so, while i don't have a theme for this year yet, i think i have my work cut out for me.

Huh. I like that Brandy -- the whole "year of yes" thing. Can I borrow it?

My intention for the year : To focus on moving toward things I want/need/like/intrigue me (as opposed to last year which seemed to be a whole string of things I had to walk away from).

Among the things I hope to move towards: Starting a PhD program, getting more fit and making more art.
I am, you know.

*Do good in school
*get into college
*learn to spell
+and last but not least, to be able to meditate for a 3 day period (by the way right now i can only hold true meditation for about 2 minutes if im lucky :p ).

Good luck Kittens with all your goals! :-D

I only really had one plan (actually, I like the word "intention") for this year, and it was "to face the rest of my life". Something general, but that can be applied to a lot of things I need to do. Mostly it means not dwelling on the past, being accepting of the way my life is, and taking steps to make it better based on that. Kind of a three-step thing. :) And I suppose we all try to do that in some way every year, but I made it official this time around.

I suppose I still want to accomplish a lot of the same tasks as I wanted last year- write more, keep up with my schoolwork, etc.- but I decided not to set those in stone this time around. Hopefully, if I am in the right frame of mind, all of that will follow. At least, that's the conclusion I've come to. ;)

Good luck, Kittens, with all of your New Year's plans!

A few years ago I made a resolution that I wouldn't make any more resolutions that I didn't think I could keep, and I wouldn't make the same ones every year. This year my resolution is to work a little less and pay more attention to my new family. AND learn how to express more openly my desires instead of STILL being shy after 5 months.
