This is weird, OT, and probably narcissistic, but I noticed that in 3 of the movies that come up at the top of the list on IMDB for Amber - Angst, Simple Things, and Lovers, Liars, and Lunatics - there is a character named Sally. Coincidence? YOU be the judge.

I agree, but I seriously doubt Amber would ever compromise her own morals for a roll anyway.

actors are paid for their bodies as much as their skills. refusing to do certain types of scenes or something is a little silly. like being famous and annoyed by the fact that people go crazy in public. i don't applaud or disrespect amber's choice but i think it's a bit silly for an actor to have a blanket policy without even considering that nudity could be appropriate, even vital, to some roles. i think she limits herself professionally that way, and think we can all agree that we definitely want more amber on the big screen. and in movies that other people will actually see.

Indeed, I do not see why Amber would be any less honorable should she ever change her mind and decide to do a nude scene. I´d rather see her do that than watch her with fake intestines coming out of her and see her get murdered yet again in a movie. Does anyone here think less of her because she has a foul mouth at times or because she posed for Stuff magazine? Believe it or not, I am neither waiting or hoping for her to show her goods, but if she ever does, for whatever reason, I will think the same of her as I do now.
As for nudity in general in movies or on TV, one can debate whether it is ever necessary to show a naked breast or butt, but I am not bothered by it, there are other things I would rather do without in movies. If an actor does not want to do it they should not, to each his or her own, but those that have no problems with it are not lacking in morals for that reason in my book.

I wouldn't think any less if Amber, or any other actor/ess were nude in a movie. It's called ACTING. And it's their choice, if they decide to commit to a project that they want to do.

I would have to disagree. An actor is hired for their talent. They are only hired for their bodies if the scriptwriter/director has no imagination. Amber's stance on not doing nude scenes in an industry that regularly exploits and tries to tell the world that anorexic is beautiful is a stance that is worth a great deal. if she compromises that, if she is prepared to forget her stance for money or prestige, then her stance, and the message she sent out with it, is tainted.

I agree, naked Amber is better than dead Amber in a film but to be honest, it shouldn't have to be either.

Actually, to be pragmatic, if you get hired to do a job, then you do the job. If that requires nudity, then you do the nudity. If you decide you don't want the nudity, then you don't take the job; of course, that may limit your ability to make money, but that is your choice. Just sayin'.

Well, real pragmatism ikinda-sorta implies asking the questions ahead of time and, as Dana mentioned, not taking the job if it compromises an non-negotiable principle.
And I for one don't believe nudity and sexuality are a necessary pairing, and I believe it applies in both directions. I mean, allw e have so far is a title and a very short description, no specifics about content from the original post.
Now as for Tony Head's new movie, we have a poster which adds to the "ahntrayging" publicity....

Heck, it's worth remembering that even Charlton Heston did a nude scene (cf. "Planet of the Apes").

In an interview, Heston pointed out that it was the only way to properly show that Taylor had been "stripped of everything, reduced to the status of an animal."

Let me expand. I ahve no problem with Amber doing love scenes. In Race You To The Bottom she did a love scene that was tasteful and not exploitative. On Buffy there were sexy scenes done that didn't require showing a buttock or breast yet were sen as explicit.

I guess I have no problem with Amber being "nude" providing the scene is done tastefully and the scene is required. What I have never liked in any movie, is nudity and sex purely for titillation.

As for the Charlton Heston scene, that was tastefully handled. If it ahd been a full frontal nude scene, I would ahve considered it OTT.

ASA- these days if people want nudity and sex for titillation they can watch porn; it's ubiquitous everywhere on the web and easily found. So the use of nudity in any decent movie is usually not for the titillation factor. Amber, if indeed she really does have a no nudity stance, would not be the only actor to take that stance. But here is the rub- in truth, she is also not getting top acting job offers. Her past couple of years of acting have been in limited release indie films, where she can easily pick and choose and say no- but what would happen if a major job offer came long, for a role requiring tasteful nudity in a film with a major and well known leading man (or woman)? With a sincere desire to build a career, do you stand on priniciple and say no, hoping that another offer of equal import will come along, but knowing that your "no" might then limit the willingness of other casting agents contacting you? What a dilemma!

I wish that we could get over our puritan history and accept our bodies and get on with life. I could care less if anyone saw me nude, because the only person I am going to sleep with and who I want to sleep with is my wife. It ain't no turn on muchly for me to see someone else nude, because that is the end of the story, you know? And I am sure that none of this makes any sense whatsoever!

Dana, if Amber has a no nudity stance I really hope she sticks to it no matter what. I'm not sure I would want to watch her in a movie knowing that she felt she had to take her clothes off to further her career.

However I agree with you about nudity in general, although definitely not something I could do. I was watching Sigourney Weaver doing a costume test (actually not much of any kind of costume) with the director and who knows how many other people on one of the Alien DVDs recently and it was good to see a middle-aged woman not giving a damn about how much skin she was showing and who was watching her.

Billy: Thank you. I am not taking a stance here either way, just asking the kind of questions a person in the acting business may have to consider. As I noted, it cannot be easy- give in to further your aspirations, stand on principle and lose work, or if lucky stand on principle and not lose work.

I agree that recent work by Weaver, Diane Keaton, Kathy Bates, Judy Dench and others is important for breaking down the walls by which we hide our bodies. Notably absent from this are any men, though I do not the words of Roger Ebert to the effect that a major male movie star doing full frontal nudity ends up in a documentary. LOL.

There's nothing wrong with a little nudity if it's germaine to the plot...and I think our Amber has a bit too much integrity to do one that had nudity purely for titillation (although apparently not Aly...she seems to be going the teenage boy sex comedy route still...where Amber seems destined to be an indie queen...yeah Amber!) In any case I respect Amber's decision not to do nudity...there are a lot of major actors in Hollywood who have nude scenes on film and have never taken off a stitch...there's a thing called a body double for just that purpose...although after seeing the absolute womanly beauty of Amber's female form in Stuff...I certainly wouldn't object to a nude scene, mind you...nothing tacky...and not to objectify her in any way...but as an artist I see her from a less prurient and more aesthetic view (even though she is so luscious)...it would do wonders to further the concept that curvy is so much more sexy and gorgeous...but when it comes to Ms. Amber...I have to admit I would not mind a long, unobstructed view of her beautiful naked back...hell, I'd be happy if there were pics of her at a premiere in a backless dress...sigh

The Nobel committee on literature would look askew at a nominee with nude scenes in her resume. But maybe she will subvert convention and win an oscar or nobel anyway.

There are quite a few actors and actresses who refuse to do nude scenes so I don't think that Amber not doing nude scenes is anything new but what is cool is that she stands firm by that decision and doesn't just forget about it to further her career which I doubt is affected by that decision. Anyways if Amber does decide to do nude scenes I wouldn't think any less of her at all. Saying that I doubt she would do one anytime soon.

Given the title of this movie and Amber´s statements in the past about nude scenes which we do know exist, this is not that off topic a topic for this thread. If people want to keep discussing this they can, though I am willing to bet it is all academic as I doubt this movie will have nude scenes, despite it´s suggestive title, but that does not preclude speculation. If anyone wants to change the subject they are free to do so as well.

As a movie writer, I agree that the nudity has its place. Low taste and almost pornographic sex sickens me but a well written, romantic sex scene is important.

Would you say that the sex scene between Paulie and Torie in Lost and Delirious was disgusting and that Piper Perabo should feel ashamed for doing it?

I think it was totally sensual and that it might be necessary sometimes to further the story. Nothing is ever the same after sex...(well it's the way I feel anyway!) so it can be a turning point in a story.

Plus Amber has a great body and she shouldn't be afraid to show it...
