Aly to star in "Date Movie"

Anything about Willow & Tara, Alyson Hannigan and Amber Benson.

I've always loved Carol Burnett and Lucille Ball. And Gilda Radner. Anybody in any of the Christopher Guest movies. They're all phenomenal. It's just a privilege to be able to work with some of them.

Alyson is in the same league as all of those she mentioned, which is why I would pay $10.00 (yes 10! I've lived in California for years and I can't believe it costs that much!) to see this film.

I have this big jonesing to do comedy. It's been on my front burner for a few years, because it's just so much fun to go to work and laugh and make people laugh. I think it's healthy. For a while there, I couldn't get a comedy to save my life. I was struggling with a guest spot here, a movie of the week there. I was playing every victim you've ever met. Like, if something bad happened to your daughter, I played that girl.

Another reason I'd pay $10.00 (even as I type that I can't believe it) to see this film. I'd rather Alyson make tons of cash than "play the victim" in the "movie of the week." And she was really funny in this...

If you love Aly and her tremendous talent and likeability than it is worth $10.00 to see this movie. I know I'm biased but so are y'all, so let me say that she steals the show. It's worth it to see her on the big screen.

And you know I was skeptical. :blush It just proves Alyson Hannigan can make any movie good. Without her this movie would be the worst I have ever seen. I should have known she had that kind of artistic talent. I'm ashamed that I'm surprised.

Hello Kittens-

I was just over at Yahoo and on the front page AH was in the little box for opening movies. That and a No. 1 opening movie make me hopeful that the word attached to Aly in the future will be 'bankable'.

I really hate to say this, but movies like this that do good in their first week rarely maintain that momentum.

Movies like this don't need longevity to be very profitable as they are very cheap to make which is why studios keep putting them out. If they do poorly they still tend to break even or make a small profit but if they hit they can hit huge. 2 obvious direct comparisons are American Pie and Scarey Movie, American Pie cost just 11 million to make and grossed $235,483,004 worldwide and Scarey Movie cost just 19 million and grossed $278,019,771 worldwide (these numbers dont even include tv rights or DVD sales). I can't imagine Date Movie cost much to make and could make all its money back in the first week as apart from Aly they went with mostly newcomers and cheap B level actors.

My thoughts exactly, and if you look at the total of Big Momma´s House 2, I remain hopeful that this one can carry on as well. Maybe people are in the mood for actors in fat suits. :p

Well, I wouldn't consider Aly to be above "newcomers and cheap B level actors". I mean, aside from Buffy, she's not known for anything that good or well known, is she?

Actually, she has reached a far greater audience with the American Pie series than she ever did with Buffy, those movies may not be considered ´high art´, but they have put her on the map. Somehow I do not believe she is now, years after that show ended, getting to appear on talk shows and present awards because the organizers loved Willow so much.

Well she did move up the fame ladder with the American Pie series, she made just 50k for American Pie but because she was on Buffy at the time she was one of the few cast who did not have a sequel clause in her contract and made significantly more for AP 2 and made close to $5 million for American Wedding (reported 3 million salary and between 1% and 2% of the gross on top of that) so I assume that she'd be offered close to that to star in a movie in the same genre she's proved herself in, but apart from her salary I really couldn't see the movie costing much, I'd estimate a low of $15 million and a high of $25 million as the range.

Just in case people are wondering why she made so much with the AP movies here's some numbers that should explain why they'd pay to keep the cast together despite not being big names:

American Pie
Production Budget- $11 million
Domestic Gross- $102,561,004
Overseas Gross- $132,922,000
Total- $235,483,004

American Pie 2
Production Budget- $30 million
Domestic Gross- $145,103,595
Overseas Gross- $142,450,000
Total- $287,553,595

American Wedding
Production Budget- $55 million
Domestic Gross- $104,565,114
Overseas Gross- $126,437,439
Total- $231,002,553

Total for all 3 movies-

Production budgets- $96 million
Total worldwide grosses- $754, 039, 152

Those numbers don't even take into account merchandise, Soundtrack, TV rights or DVD/VHS sales

I just saw the movie tonight. Aly was hot and funny. Worth my money to see it. The movie wasn't great but I've seen much worse. I actually laughed quite a bit. Especially in the dancing scenes!

I still LOVED it :lol Sometimes you just need something like that...something were you don't have to think and just....laugh at something really stupid... I don't regret spending $10!!!

Pretty much love or hate, here's the boxoffice mojo fans grades, the vast majority are A's and F's, not too much in between (not taking into account all the Aly screen time we get I'd give the movie a "C" myself.

GRADE BREAKDOWN
A's: 29 46.8%
B's: 6 9.7%
C's: 4 6.5%
D's: 9 14.5%
F's: 14 22.6%

According to 411mania, "Date Move" was the #2 movie this week.

Though the guy they got to review it sure as hell wasn't kind to it.

I went to see the movie last night with my wife. No it wasn't the best on the 'big screen'. It was humorous in some parts, however disgusting they might have been. Alyson was cute through it all. Her smile melts my heart and the few tears she shed broke it.
And then we topped the night of watching Intermedio. Bad movie night! Apparently I asked for it.
Alyson and Amber, no matter what parts they play, are beautiful and we all love them...RIGHT? I know I do.
As far as rating goes, I give Date Movie a "C".

Of course. Aly's the ONLY reason I'm thinking of watching this movie in the theater. I'd wait for the DVD otherwise.

You know, I've seen the previews, and I've seen pics. I also saw a clip of it from the "Ellen" thing earlier today. I gotta admit it. I had a laugh.

Is it that funny?

A lot of it was, I thought. There are a few times where is was rather disgusting and a couple where it felt very forced. But overall the movie felt quite short. I was surprised when the credits came on. And I did laugh the majority of the way through the movie.

I was just checking out the IMDB, and decided to check their page for "Date Movie". I got some pretty bad news.

It's # 54 on their "Bottom 100" list.

That's probably a bad sign that I shouldn't go see it. Then again, some other movies on that list are ones I like (Mortal Kombat: Annihilation, Street Fighter), so that really shouldn't mean anything.

I saw the afternoon show yesterday. Like I've been saying, it certainly wasn't a movie I would see in the theater unless I had a reason. And this movie did have a reason, and its name was Alyson Hannigan.

Aly was, of course, wonderful. The "Milkshake" dance at the beginning was a riot (even if I did think it went on for about a minute too long). Being a "Star Wars" freak, I nearly choked laughing at the "Revenge of the Sith" reference. And maybe its because I've had seven years of "Buffy" to prepare for it, but I couldn't help but get caught up in the emotional side of the movie. I mean, sure. It's your typical teenage gross out comedy, but if you can get pass that, it does have a rather heartfelt (though typical) emotional anchor to it.

And I can't believe that they got Aly to sing. I mean, we all know how much hell it was to get her to sing in OMWF. Though I think the fact that everyone else gave her a look when she did was a subtle jab.

Although it sounds like I'm giving it praise, there were certain things about the movie I didn't like. I know that, in a movie like this, there's supposed to be jabs at other things, but I think they took it a bit too far sometimes, not to mention that there were two scenes where I had to put my hands over my face and not watch. (Kittens who've seen the movie no doubt know which ones I'm talking about.)

And I have yet another reason to hate that damned Pussycat Dolls song. :fit

Anyways, it was a good movie, and I would defintily go to see it again. I certainly wouldn't spend my own money to do so, but I would go see it again.

And as it turns out, its the number four movie this week after being number two last week, Something tells me we're getting a franchise here.

I love Aly, I love her reallly i do, but dear god this movie was bad! I mean, it had potential to be funny, but for most of the movie I looked away from the screen cringing.
Except of course the scene where she's taking the piss outta legally blonde and drops her bikini top! that is now and forever more in my top five movie scenes EVER!! :p

Well, I watched this last friday after work, and ... well, it's not a work of genius, but it's harmless enough fun. There were a few laugh out loud bits, and given that I'm hard to gross out, there weren't too many cringe worthy moments.

It suffers from the same problem that a lot of spoof movies suffer from these days, in that a lot of the scenes are directly ripped off from the movies they spoof. That's fine and all, but I usually find that the original scenes are often funnier.

On the whole, it's a piece of fluff, but we can but hope it does well enough to give Alyson's career a boost.

Cheers,
Paul.

so, i just got home from seeing the flaming pile of crapola that is "date movie." good god, i'd like my $9 and hour and a half of life back. i wasn't expecting an oscar contender or anything and figured it'd be silly but it was absolutely not funny. i mean, no one laughed past the first 10 minutes or so (c'mon, who doesn't love fat suit humor?). i felt almost embarassed for aly - i wanted to stand up and tell the audience "no really, she's better than this crap." thank god she's still got "how i met your mother."

i will say that regardless of my feelings for the film itself, aly was absolutely hot and drooltastic in said film (and she usually only ranks a "pretty cute" from me).
