I got it from the first time i watched "the L word", and there she was.. Shane.. the heartbreaker Shane.. she can get any girl she wants, which is exactly the opposite of me. So it's kindda ironic..

Still searching for "the girl"..

love has been avoiding me lately.. :sob

Well the history of my name is kinda lame kinda embarassing. Picture it 1998, me being a wee 14 year old, and now comes the shame: I was a big fan of the Spice Girls (still am, but just but not such a big fan :blush ), but loved Sporty Spice the most, I also was into sports and am a girl so I decided that my screenname would be sportychik, 84 comes from the year I was born. It has been my screenname ever since. Now you all can ignore the part where I said that I was a fan of the Spice Girls :lol .

Hello all...
Tangetman is actually due to my momentary case of bad spelling. I meant to use Tangentman (since I tend to go off on a tangent without warning...) I've used it so many times since then, I don't have the heart to change it!

Thx

Mine is... well, odd. I invented it, entirely out of my own mind. I have no idea how, it's one thing I can pull off with relative ease. I've had this one for about a year and a half. My old one was - get this - AYALLA. And when I made it, I hadn't even seen the WAY episode. The full name was Ayalla Makiru... the surname sounds sort of Japanese. I seem to have a flair for creating ethnic names by sheer fluke.

For example, right now my name is Naeryn Reilanen. Sounds Finnish. Complete accident. A cool one, since I'm a huge Nighwish fan and they're from Finland, but still. Amusing. I sort of hit a bunch of letters then insert other letters - usually vowels - to turn it into something pronouncable.

sgha.

Saighana. Oh look, I made another one. That one seems a little Indian, doesn't it? Hmm.

My email address is astarael_ebony@hotmail.com - it's derived from Garth Nix's Abhorsen series. Astarael is the seventh and final bell that necromancers use (Ranna, Mosrael, Kibeth, Dyrim, Belgaer, Saraneth, Astarael). It casts all who hear it far into Death, into the eighth or ninth precinct. There are only nine. Basically it kills whoever hears it, including the ringer. It is called Astarael the Sorrowful, or the Weeper. All bells are ebony-handled except those of the Abhorsen (lays the dead to rest, as opposed to necromancers who raise and control them), which have handles of mahogany. Astarael_ebony.

Postby TinyAnt » Mon Jun 27, 2005 8:32 pm

As I told the people in chat once, 'Tiny Ant' comes from a Red Hot Chili Pepper's song. They're a great band and it's a great song despite it's simplicity. Quite unusual, thuogh. It sounds as if Flea had recorded it in a closet somewhere and sneaked it into their 'One Hot Minute' CD. :lol

The song in question is called 'Pea', and there's a line where he says 'I'm a teeny tiny little ant'. My best friend is a huge fan of them, and we both identify with the song's lyrics (we're Lennon-loving pacifist). I wrote 'Tiny Ant' cause 'teeny tiny little ant' seemed too long :P. I am wonderting why I didn't just choose 'pea' as a nick, though...

Anyway, for a while now Tiny Ant has been my on-line identity, you could say. So if you see a 'TinyAnt' anywhere else, chances are it's me. :-D

Here's the lyrics, if your curious:

PEA

I'm a little pea, I love the sky and the trees
I'm a teeny tiny little ant checking out this and that
I am nothing, so you have nothing to hide
And I'm a pacifist
So I can fuck your shit up
Oh yea, I'm small
Fuck you asshole
You homophobic redneck dick
You're big and tough and macho
You can kick my ass
So fucking what
so fucking what

Ich bin für Liebe, ich bin für die die's lieben zu leben; ich bin für die, die Liebe geben auch wenns schwer ist im Leben.

Solis = sun

flos = flower

Re: What's In a Name?

Postby Flay of Goyfulgick » Fri Jul 01, 2005 7:48 am

Well...

Flay comes from a bastardized version of my original online name: Flamez. I wanted to shorten it to make it more neat-sounding and less juvenile-sounding, so I could use it for the name of a RP character when I started doing online roleplaying. (Im a big dork, I know.)

So there I was, choosing my screen name for the board. And I was like "oh dear, Flay seems so bloody short. Perhaps I should add something..." So I typed in "of". Then I was like "of what? cheese?" so off I went on a quest to see what I was "of".

I had been reminiscing with my friend who was my uberbestfriend in sixth grade. We had a tendency to make up awesome stories with awesome original words to go with them. I IMed her and was like "QUICK TORI! GIVE ME A WORD!" and she picked a word that we had made up back then and used alot back then: "Goyfulgick". It stuck, so now I'm Flay of Goyfulgick.

There ya go.
A vague disclaimer is nobody's friend.

Postby fun in dysfuntion » Tue Jul 05, 2005 6:52 pm

Hehe...I have to admit where ppl's screen names come from is something I've also wondered about so this is my tale....

Fun In Dysfuntion is a play on the phrase "fun in dysfunction", a quite twisted phrase. A friend altered the phrase a bit to fit one of my areas that I tend to enjoy...applied statistics for psychology. *sigh* I know...I can already hear the collective yawns. So, dysfuntion is a made up word to refer to the impairment of fun (aka stats).

Um, my avitar is a inkblot if you're curious.

Re: What's In a Name?

Postby p30rowing » Thu Jul 07, 2005 2:01 pm

Very interesting thread... In my two plus years of lurking, I've been kinda wondering this.

My old screenname (ichi-chan or something like that, I believe. I honesetly can't remember now) stems from a nickname my "Azumanga Daioh" (an anime/manga) obsessed friend gave me.

My current screen name is a bit more of a story. I'm a coxswain for my school rowing team. In the state championships, I had to cox two boats (novice 4+'s, in case you're interested) in a row because they didn't have enough coxes to do all the boats in time. At first were my girls who I love and did everything I told them to (even calling out power and pop 10s and 20s when they were needed, no matter how exhausted they were. The p in my screenname stands for power.). Then, I had the guys heavyweight 4+ in the leightweight girls boat. That... was a nightmare. And, they weren't listening to any of the commands I gave them (and steering an unbalanced boat with the rudder is hard work). So, eventually, I had to yell at them: "GIVE ME A GODDAMN POWER THIRTY RIGHT NOW OR I'LL THROW ALL OF YOUR ASSES INTO THE WATER AFTER THIS RACE!". Thus, power 30 rowing was born.

And, come to think of it, that story isn't that great from an outside perspective. Just realize I was a very, very, very quiet 5'1" 14-year-old wimp at the time, yelling at 200lb guys who were at least 6 feet tall.

Postby sarejester » Tue Aug 16, 2005 9:17 pm

Heyo,

My screen name is sarejester, (that part should be painfully obvious :lol)

My full name is also an anagram, I was at a friends house where they had found a wicked anagram site on the net, they were all trying to make anagram's out of there names, I thought I'd have a go, a bit of a laugh because my middle name is dutch, Neeltje (named after my mother) and i thought that nothing would come up for me,

as it turns out it did, there is an anagram for my full name
UNREACHABLE JESTER, which is so so so true to my nature, everyone thought it was increadibly wierd that it fitted so well,
so on this board Sarejester was born, (my best friends call me sare..)
Tada a handy dandy screen name!

Postby FineyMcFine » Wed Aug 17, 2005 12:23 pm

My first name is Sally, and McFine of course is from when Willow says "I'm fine. Finey McFine fine." Or whatever the exact phrase is.

I like that line, and I also have an ancestor from the 1700's or 1800's whose last name was McIntosh. He and his family immigrated to Canada from Scotland when they ended up on the losing side of one of the endless wars over who the king ought to be. (I should brush up on my history a bit, clearly.)

"Immigrated" is a mild word - I think it was more like "fled." Anyway, I liked the symmetry or synchronicity or whatever the right word is, correlation maybe, of McFine and McIntosh.

(My last name is not McIntosh, by the way.)

My name came from a yoga posture called 'the dancer'. It's one of my favourites. One of my instructors once called it 'the cosmic dancer' and I liked that & could still remember she'd said it when I was trying to think of a screen name.

Also I love astronomy, so the cosmic bit could also come from enjoying looking at the moon, stars and planets ie the cosmos.

Postby ambersagoddess » Sun Oct 02, 2005 3:16 pm

Mine is quite a thrilling story really...bare with me it's long:

Amber...is...a...Goddess.

The end.

I told you it was long, drawn out, and at parts deathly boring; but when you get the the end, it's really all worth it.

I go by many names outside of the internet though.

Rei- which I got from picking on someone who really liked anime, he called me a 'ray' (that's how I assumed it was spelt) it probably means "you're a total asshole" in japaneese. My friends thought it was hillarious and started calling me it. Then someone shouted at me that I was spelling it wrong..nerd. Anyway, it's what everyone calls me, save the few that call me other names.

Brandon/Teena/Ten-a-ray- all for the obvious reason that I'm transgendered and Brandon Renee Teena was brutally murdered not to far from my home for being the same.

Ivan- Another transgendered trip, Ivan from the L word, s'what my brother Ahron calls me.

Shane- I have that nasty habit of acting just like Shane from the L word. So there ya go. It would also seem that every girl that's ever liked me in my entire life humps the television screen or audibly moans ever time they see Katherine Moennig.

Goldenboi- Someone said something like "wow rei, you're so good at everything, you're like a goldenboi" So yeah.

Told you I go by many names.

The only one I haven't adressed is my given name, which is so horrid that it shall never be spoken of.

Re: What's In a Name?

Postby Modjadji » Wed Nov 02, 2005 5:31 am

I think I've told this story before, but anyway...

Modjadji is the name of the rain queen of the Bolubedu tribe in southeastern Zimbabwe (see http://www.tzaneen.co.za/ice/modjadji_history.htm for more info). Basically, she's in charge of when the rain comes, therefore she's boss. She's a pretty famous person in Southern Africa, and very well-respected.

I got the name because I drove some friends from Durban to Cape Town a while ago (it's a coastal drive most of the way, which explains a lot), and due to some freak meteorological phenomenon, it rained. the. whole. time. It's a ten hour drive, so it got a bit tedious. Basically, because most people call me "mo" or "mojo" anyway (my real name is imogen), Modjadji the Rain Queen kinda stuck. It's a compliment, though, which is more than I can say for a lot of my nicknames...

Also, p30rowing....rowing! Awesome sport. I'm 6' so clearly I'm a rower, not a cox, but you guys have a tough job, getting people in some serious pain to dig deep for that extra push. Still, I'd do it for the awesome back muscles alone.

cheers,
mo.

Re: What's In a Name?

Postby LtSticks » Wed Nov 02, 2005 3:25 pm

Hmm my SN, well there are two explanations...

Ok the geek version:

Lt: The rank of my fave character in Star Wars books at the time I created the name, at theforce.net

Sticks: Callsign of said character

People had already started calling me Sticks anyway, and I had at the time been in the process of applying to Sandhurst Military Academy, of which I would have graduated and become...a Lieutenant (incidentally I failed the medical. Bleugh.)

Another version is the product of a 14 hour celebration of my A Levels being completed, and acceptance into university. My friends wanted to know why some people called me Sticks, and Faith's driving stick comment was blurted out. Suffice to say they LOVE that version, esp. when they ask me if I'm going to be known as Strap On Sticks at some point *blushes and runs away*

So there you go, I'm going to see if I can get my face to stop being flaming red now.

I am a huge Jodie Foster fan, and wanted to use a name that would reflect that. Candleshoe is an old Disney film of hers, back from when she was a lil' bit of a thing. I also wanted something that didn't necessarily give away too much about me. In my line of work I have to be a bit careful that my clients can't track me down too easily!

My name comes from the fact that, being a W/T board, I had to choose a "wicca" style name. And being a uber Star Wars geek, I decided to add "Sith Lord" to the name, given that, as far as Star Wars goes, I'm a big fan of the evil characters.

So has anyone seen that cartoon show, "Undergrads"? No? See, that's why it was cancelled after one season, lol.
One of the characters on it was named Gimpy, and his screen name was G-Prime. I loved Gimpy. I worshipped Gimpy. So I promptly changed my MSN name to K-Prime (my first name being Kim).
It's been two years, and it just kinda stuck. Half my friends call me that now, which gets me some weird looks in public, but it's fun.

Well Chemy is basically because I used to be brilliant at Chemistry, answering 16 questions before the rest of the class has answered 1 brilliant (although thick as a post now :( ) And I have alot of female friends so they thought it was cute and it caught on with all of them.

Errol on the other hand is the first in a long line or variations of the Latin word for ''to wander'' basically taking the line above the letter O and making it and L after so it becomes Errol or 'the wanderer'.

Oooh I just found this, and feel compelled to explain mine, although it is terribly boring.

When I first started venturing into the world of forums I was just 13, so (understandably) my parents insisted I didn't use my real name - even just my first name - so I went as Lily, which is the name of one of my rats (I love rats, have loads of them :-D :x ). When I later joined a rat forum I decided to I couldn't be Lily, as it would be unclear when I was talking about Lily the rat and when I was talking about myself. So I chose the first name that popped into my head: Sasha. It stuck, and I've been Sasha ever since, on many different forums. Although my parents are a little more relaxed about names now I've got into the habit of not revealing my real mame, so everyone online knows me as Sasha. :-D

Told you it was boring!

Being that I have lived in Hawaii most of my life (I so miss home), when I have a daughter(s), I want to name her Noelani (no eh lah nee). It means a 'beautiful girl from Heaven.' Either that or Haunani (how nah' nee), which means 'precious gift fom God.' Yeah, yeah, for a guy, i'm pretty sapping. =)

Back when I first started taking Latin, I loved the language so much that I wanted to make a new screen name that was Latin. I kept searching for a cool word to use but got nothing. On an impulse I found a Latin translator online and typed the word 'whore' because I thought it was funny at the time (yes I was horribly immature at 13). I got 'scortor'. I'm fairly confident that scortor is not the actual Latin word for 'whore' but I liked the sound of it and have been using 'scortor' as a username on basically every forum I've joined in the last 4 years.
