Im probably stating the obvious by saying Serena will win again. This is her turf. Wimbledon last year was the last time all the sisters were together b4 her sister was shot dead so in my opinion thats an extra incentive for her or Venus to win again.



Its a shame Kim Clijsters isnt there. I think she is an excellent player and deserves to win a slam.I much prefare her to henin.



As much as I love Davenport I dnt think she has another slam left in her.Capriatti could surprise us. I think Myskina will be out of her debt on grass if she comes up against the sisters.



I just Hingus was still playing. And whatever happened to Monica Selles?

Well Venus Williams lost in two tie breaks and Martina is still battling on.

Karolina Sprem through to the quarters. I can't help but be a bit begrudging though, as she was helped through her victory over Venus by the umpire.



I see Navratilova is still in the women's doubles at least. She and Lisa Raymond are a great partnership. Hopefully they'll do well.

I don't think one point can decide a match.I think Venus was very gracious about her lost. I have new found respect for Venus. Give some credits to Sprem though. I think she played really well that day.



I am rooting for Mauresmo though. She is just through to the Quarterfinals.

Oh, I do think Sprem has played well, especially seeing as she's been struggling with injury, but I can't help feeling sorry for Venus. Though you are right, she was very gracious about it. I'm the same in football if a match is decided by penalties I just feel it's a horrible way to loose.

Amelie through to semifinals. She will play Serena. I hope she can beat Serena.



Serena is having some advantages over Amelie coz she is spending less time on court. I thought Jennifer would give Serena a hard match but then it was a disappointment.

Incredible scoreline in the Serena -v- Jennifer game - 6-1 6-1. I thought that'd be a tough game, for sure. Ah well, just goes to show you never know what's going to happen in tennis!

I've always been a massive fan of wimbledon, but I'm getting a bit fed up of the williams sisters to be honest. I know they're great players but i couldn't help screaming in delight when Sprem knocked her out so early on. It's a shame she got injured as I really think her match with Davenport was not of her best quality.



i also can't believe how many new players have come to light this year. My absolute favourite has to be Maria Sharapova, she's an amazing player and clearly gourgous! I can't help but love her, especailly when she wins, she always screams 'I won!' and just seems so happy to be going through to the next round it just refreshing to see how enthusiastic she is, even from the very first round. Ideally I'd love to see her in the final, after beating Sugiyama after being a set down she showed such resisitance and determination. But I think to be honest facing Davenport will be quite a mission.



But I'm also looking forward to Mauresmo -v- Williams, should be a stunner, lets hope she puts up more of a fight then Capriati (a match I missed because of an exma dammit, thought judging from the scoreline I'm glad I didn't have to sit throught it!)

I like the Williams sisters, but I was just looking at the honour roll of past Wimbledon winners yesterday and one of them has won it for the last four years. It'd be nice if there was a change. That really depends on Amelie. If she has the self belief I think she can beat Serena. There's less pressure on her here in Wimbledon that there was in the French Open, so that should help. The other semi should be good too; Davenport seems to be in good form, and Sharapova is a strong player also.



I watched a bit of the Federer -v- Hewitt match; Federer is such a good all-round player. And I believe young Andy Roddick played a serve at 145mph - yikes that's fast!

I don't get it, I really don't. What's wrong with talented players winning? They don't cheat, they work hard, as do all of the women's players. They don't rub their victories or defeats in other people's faces. So is it that they're black women who've run away with titles because other players haven't been up to snuff or is it something else? Because really, I don't get all of this anti-Williams sisters stuff. It sounds snarky to me, hating a player for no other reason than they win alot.

I do not recall anybody here using the word “hate” in their observations. You cannot hate a person if you do not know them; it’s as simple as that. Hate is personal.You may not like their style of playing, their conduct on/off court, and people have a right to express that regardless of that player’s race, religion, political, sexual preference,etc.etc..... I am not always particularly charmed about the way some of the current players behave but that does not mean they are lousy tennis-players. I love this sport but cannot help but feel that a lot of players simply have no love for the game – there’s no genuine detectable pleasure like there certainly was in “the old days” That’s my beef. Someone in this thread said and I literally quote: “I am so not a Kim fan” (as in Clijsters). What is the difference between that particular statement and the statement about the Williams sisters? I really don’t get this...... In my opinion Ms.Clijsters is an excellent player, I find her sympathetic, both on/off court, but if someone does not share this view, then that’s their business and no skin off my back.

Anyway, there were two fantastic women’s semi-finales today at Wimbledon, especially the S.Williams-A.Mauresmo one and it really was a pity that they could not both win but in the end the one with the tougher nerves came through. The other match: I was surprised and a bit disappointed about Lindsey Davenport who in the third set seemed to have lost all interest and drive. There was an interview with her right after the match and she indicated that this was probably her last Wimbledon. I was sorry to hear that because I think she is one fine player and I hope she will reconsider this decision.... I Have high hopes for Sharapova’s tennis-future: for a 17-year old she has tremendous strength, technique and stamina! Well done

If you'll note, in my response, I never used the word "hate". And I never opined that anyone else did as well.

What did you mean by that then? You quote a negative comment about the Williams sisters and then you say that, how else can that be interpreted.

We all have our favourite and not so favourite players. It is just a personal opinion, it is not an attack on whatever race they are or what sexual preference they have or whatever, not on this board. I used to not like Martina Navratilova when she was winning everything. I got tired of seeing the Belgian women in every other final as well recently, and why, I can´t really explain it. I felt the same way when it was the Williams sisters. Yet I never felt that way when Steffi Graf was winning grand slam after grand slam. Now I love watching Martina play, I was happy for Serena, eventough I really wanted Mauresmo to win. It´s very subjective.

bummed about mauresmo but I loved her game. It's really fun to watch her. It just kind of sucks. I'll be cheering for the youngster, but I won't be watching, good news is mauresmo is #3 in the world now and it is my understanding that she could be number 1 by this fall given the amount of points the players above her are losing.

Ya its a pity that mauresmo did not win. I really want her to win. Such a tight match but a wonderful match to watch nevertheless.

Amelie is such a talented player and its sad that she still hasn't win a grandslam yet.

What an incredible match yesterday, such drama and excitement! It would have been great to see Mauresmo through to the finals, but she`s going from strength to stength, I`m sure she`ll win the title one of these days. Go girl!!! ride

The Serena -v- Amelie match was amazing. My gf and I watched it and were riveted. Definitely one of the most entertaining matches of the championship! I missed the Davenport -v- Sharpova one as I was in transit from work, but I believe Sharpova came back really well. Makes for a really interesting final, which, sadly I'm going to miss, as I'm stuck here in work doing overtime and won't even have access to radio wimbledon! Ah well. May the best player win!

i was sad to see Davenport go, but Sharopova seems to be in with a chance against Serena Williams because (apart from being a great tennis player) her shrieks are quite impressive..

I didn't get to see the match so I am kind of surprised at that score. I actually thought she'd do really well, I've seen her play and she's got a great game. Did Serena play badly or did Sharapova just out play her?

Serena started out pretty bad; I had the feeling she initially somewhat underestimated her opponent. Sharapova is an incredible fighter and does not give anything away and is prepared to take risks that mostly go well and sometimes of course backfire. In the second set Serena played considerably better and took a 4-2 lead. From that moment on Sharapova shifted gear and gave it all she had to eventually win that one 6-4 which of course clinched the deal. I have nothing but admiration for her stamina and determination. She had nothing to loose and therefore could play quite freely which she did and of course the pressure was on Serena but in the end the better player won. It was an awesome match and a joy to watch

Justine really surprised me with her form in the olympics. So it's US open time and time to predict a winner. My heart says Mauresmo but I think Davenport might pull it out. I think it would be nice if she did. It's going to be interesting for sure! I saw the arthur ashe thing today and there was steffi playing , I miss her.

Speaking of….. I will be seeing Ms.Graf in 3 weeks time, along with a friend of mine, in Berlin. On top of that (or maybe on top of her, heheh) she will play this exhibition match against Gabriella Sabatini . That’s two for the price of one I would say. Oh, and the U.S.Open starts today but my mind is set on Berlin; can’t wait ! Any other kittens planning on going?
