Scooby's Pal Outed as Lesbian?

World Entertainment News Network

2/1/2002

Fans of SCOOBY DOO are set to get a shock in the live-action movie - when the canine's chum VELMA DINKLEY is outed as a lesbian.

According to British tabloid THE DAILY SPORT, the pudding-bowled crime-fighter, played by LEGALLY BLONDE star LINDA CARDELLINI, will kiss another girl.

TV fans have speculated for years over the sexuality of brainbox Velma and the new movie starring celeb couple SARAH MICHELLE GELLAR and FREDDIE PRINZE JR will finally confirm what sex she goes for.

A source says, "She finally comes out of the closet in the film."

Is SMG gonna do another Cruel Intentions-type kiss?

Sorry, GG, you're going to have to wait until the DVD comes out to see Daphne kissing Velma: www.gaywired.com/index.cfm?linkPage=/storydetail.cfm&Section=55&ID=9847

I wasn't impressed by the Cruel Intentions kiss. I think because SMG didn't actually do the "I'm gonna stick my tongue in your mouth" thing. Selma Blair did.

Funny, I always figured it was Fred who was gay. He certainly never showed much interest in the girls. A shame the movie looks so bad, I think a full length version of the Scooby scene in Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back would have been way funnier.

I thought the Scoobie Doo movie had chosen to drop any hint of lesbianism because of ratings concerns. Since they are pushing this as a family movie.

I know my 9 year old nephew is a huge Scoobie Doo fan. My mom (read overbearing grandmother) would not even let him watch the end of Under My Spell. So I cannot imagine that having one of the lead characters in SD be a lesbian will go over very well.

Officially, of course, I have to say that I have no idea what you're talking about.

Yeah, that was an old article I dug out of our old Scoobie Doo thread, but it was at least something to get the convo going since, someone in the question thread wanted the old thread about this movie.

Now, I tell you something, I have seen the commercial for this and scoobie doo scares me... so much. He's creepy, evil. I wish they'd gotten some dog and given him peanut butter to talk. This CGI dog is FREAKY

Odd. 'Cuz the last movie I was at with a SD trailer, the kids there seemed to like it.

Maybe it's just Toronto kids. Who knows?

I was just thinking about the title of this thread, and it made me laugh. "Lesbians inside". Okay, my sophomoric humor can go away now.

I loved the cartoon show when i was little and have been disappointed w/th the cgi scooby; he's down right creepy! Although kudos(if the ptb do let it slide) with Velma being a lesbian, I knew all along;)

"pics and lesbians inside" well, that certainly got me to open up the thread! from the previews i don't really find scooby creepy but he is very odd looking. i'm not sure how i feel about the movie. it doesn't look to great so far but i'll probably have to go see just out of curiousity.

Well I've only seen the trailer for the movie, but I personally find what I've seen so far to be pretty darn funny, Scooby most of all. I'm not really a fan of Freddie ('not really' being an understatement....) but he managed not to annoy me in the preview, so I'll be seeing the movie. Looks funny, plus, I wanna see the local areas they filmed in (about half an hour from my house).

Well look at it this way.

If Scooby Doo does well then SMG is going to want to be big movie star. I am cool with that. But that means she is less likely to want to do a Season 8 of Buffy.

No Season 8 of Buffy is now a very good thing.

the Jay and Silent Bob sketch was brilliant, and having Marc Blucas as Fred was clever and very funny.

IMHO "Lesbians inside" can only be a good thing and there should be more of it.

My daughter wants to see the SD film so i suppose i'll have to go as well....

I love the Scooby scene from Jay and Silent Bob, but the extended version on the DVD is just EWWWWW.

I think I will see this movie, I have a strange fascination with Matthew Lillard.

May I ask what is the content of the extended scene on the DVD? Because anything that inspires an "EWWWWW" must be interesting.

Talking about cut scenes: on the Jay and Silent Bob strike back DVD, are there any extra Eliza Dushku-scenes ? Coz I heard there was this hot sexscene between her and one of her female "You are so gay" friends originally... Might be wishful thinking but you never know with Kevin Smith.

Actually, what Michelle looked to be wearing was a fancy shirt over jeans (from her picture on the next page). But I agree, it was really pretty, and looked good on her.

I too do not understand why they decided to use a computer animated dog. He just doesn't look like a dog.

Peanut butter (or similar stick-to-the-roof-of-your-mouth substances) is an old trick that animal trainers used to use to get their dogs, cats, horses or kangaroos to talk on film (this was in the pre-CGI days, and assuming of course they didn't do the whole "telepathy" thing, e.g. Cat from Outer Space, Look Who's Talking Now). Basically, that's how they got Mr. Ed to "talk" on camera: feeding him a PB-like substance, which he naturally wanted to get out of his mouth, making his lips move. After a while, though, the horse tumbled to the fact that moving his lips on camera seems to please his human friends, so eventually it got to where they could barely make him stop talking.
