Chapter Four - Make A Move“Willow!” Oz caught up to his best friend in the park, setting down his guitar case he sat down beside the redhead. “You didn’t call me last night.”
“Oh, yea, sorry about that,” Willow apologized, patting his shoulder. “Ocean and Tara invited me to the movies and I couldn’t say no.”
Oz smirked.
“What?” Willow frowned.
“Why don’t you just come clean and tell the woman how you feel,” he suggested.
“Well, why don’t you?” Willow challenged.
Oz shrugged. “I don’t know,” he sighed. “She’s just... maybe a little too much for me.”
“How so?”
“Well, she’s gorgeous, for one thing, I mean, aside from you, she’s the only other woman I feel comfortable with and that’s rare.” Oz grabbed his case and opened it, pulling out the instrument, “We wrote a new song today, wanna hear it?”
“You’re being avoidy,” Willow scowled. Oz had been her best friend since grade three and she could tell when he was lying or being avoidy. “Oz?”
“She likes me too,” he said, looking at Willow. “She told me last night that she likes me and she’d like for us to go out sometime.”
“That’s great!” Willow bounced then she stopped. “Wait, why are you not excited?”
Oz did another shrug, “I guess I just didn’t expect her to like me the I like her, it’s unreal.”
“You’re Oz, how can someone not like you?” Willow softened her voice.
“Well, you’re gay, so I won’t count you,” Oz snickered.
“And proud of it!” Willow puffed out her chest and grinned. “Oh my God, there’s Tara!” She pointed to the riverside, where Tara sat, reading a book.
“That’s my cue to go,” the redhead man stood up and packed away his guitar again.
“Wait, go? Why now?” Willow panicked.
“Willow, Tara’s been a friend of yours for thirteen years, I think you can manage going over there and saying ‘hi’.”
“But, she’s...Tara! Gorgeous, beautiful, sensual, sexy, hot...did I mention gorgeous?” Willow stared at the blonde. The silky strands wisping across that porcelain skin and those beautiful hands flipping pages or tucking hair behind those adorable ears. “Gods, I love her,” the redhead whispered in awe.
Oz cleared his throat. “Right, so go over there... wait, you love her?”
“Oh who was I kidding? I’ve been in love with that woman for the past five years!” Willow stood up and grabbed her bag. “I’m going to go over there and say hello to my love, though she doesn’t know she’s my love...not yet anyway because I haven’t told her, but when I do tell her she’ll know because I told her... shut me up!” she squeaked.
“Better idea,” Oz smiled and grabbed his best friend’s hand and began walking in the blonde’s direction.
“Oz!” Willow hissed. “Let go!”
“Nope,” Oz smiled and then stopped right at Tara’s side. “Package for Miss Maclay,” he grinned and did a terrible British accent.
“Willow?” Tara breathed, smiling as she saw the beautiful redhead step out from behind the young man. “I thought you had that last interview?”
“Oh, I did, I’m done now,” the redhead swallowed.
“Well good, join me for a quiet afternoon? Unless you have plans.” The blonde looked between the two redheads.
“No, no plans, I’m meeting the band for another rehearsal, see ya around Tara, and Will, play nice,” he winked, walking off.
“Package?” Tara raised an eyebrow at her friend as they sat looking out at the river and the ducks.
“Uh...you know Oz and his weird humour,” Willow laughed nervously.
Tara leaned in and whispered in the redhead’s ear, “Well, since you’re my package, when do I get to unwrap you?” her hot breath washed deeply through Willow’s veins.
Willow couldn’t even fight the low moan that surfaced from her throat. She let out a shaky breath and licked her dry lips. “Tara,” she whispered hoarsely, wanting so bad to kiss her.
“I thought I’d find you two here,” Ocean fell to her knees. “Lunch break,” she smiled.
Tara pulled back and tucked hair behind her ears, trying not to yell out in frustration. All she wanted to do was pull the redhead close to her, whisper in a loving voice how much the girl meant to her and then kiss her...with love.
“So what are your plans for your day off?” Ocean asked her best friend, not even realizing she had broken up, yet another, magical moment between the blonde and redhead.
“Uh, nothing, just reading a book, maybe go for a little walk out to the sandlot or to the beach,” Tara sighed and pulled her knees up to her chest.
“With the little sis?” Ocean giggled.
Willow looked at Tara and found that the blonde wasn’t even looking back at her, that she avoided any eye contact. “I’m uh...going to go...and maybe...listen to Oz’s band rehearse.”
Tara watched as the redhead gathered her bag and stood up. “But...”
“No, I mean, you two can spend this nice day having lunch together anyway, wouldn’t want the little sister ruining best friend time,” the redhead threw her bag over her shoulder and darted down the path.
“Ocean!” Tara frowned and threw her things together.
“What?” Ocean watched her best friend’s eyes dart over to the running redhead. “Did I say something wrong?”
“She’s more than just a little sister, you know that,” Tara sighed.
“Not to me, Tara, she’s my little sister, she always will be,” the brunette looked at the blonde. “Look, I know that you two have some crazy connection, but it’s just a phase or something... since when did you start becoming so fond of the little annoying redhead we used to push away years ago.”
Tara sighed and stood up. “Willow’s not the little girl anymore and neither are we, Ocean... I know you can’t see Willow the way I do, but trust me, she is way more woman then you’d ever imagine.”
Ocean stood and faced her longtime best friend. “I don’t know Tare, I just...it’s like...why Willow? Why not Cameron? She was a hottie.”
“We hate Cameron, she poured ice cold water in your lap on the first day of our high school year,” Tara frowned. “Are you saying you’d rather me go out with someone who we both hate then go out with someone we both love and trust?”
“I’m saying you should find another love interest rather than my little sister,” Ocean clenched her jaw and walked off back towards the restaurant before turning around and facing Tara once again. “I thought you two were just flirting, I was cool with that... but Tare, this...please...”
“Please what Ocean?” Tara crossed her arms over her chest. “Fine, whatever, I will no longer have contact with Willow, just as long as that makes you happy,” the blonde turned around and ran away. “Don’t keep dinner waiting either!”
Ocean shook her head and rubbed her temples. Great. Her sister would hate her and her best friend would now be hell to live with.
