The Bronze had a buzz going tonight. The live band were clearing away. Patrons moved their mingling from the dance floor to the seating. Drinks freely flowing and for this night freedom was theirs. Life’s oppressions to hit with tomorrow’s hangover.

“Hey.” A young man leaned on his pool cue, standing over Willow and Tara’s table. “Me and my buddy were wondering, you wanna do doubles? Whatcha say, you game?”

“Oh no, we’re okay. Just here to spend time with my.” What? What word could encapsulate everything this girl meant to her? Willow grasped Tara’s hand under the table. “Tara.”

Thighs quivered as fingers burnt from friction. Willow slammed away. Emptying the entirety of her lungs in either moans, cries or exertion. She banged with all her might of desired force. The desire to get her and Tara off, of the soil.

It was a mansion of madness. No matter where they ran, no door would open. Every wooden surface left a splinter parting gift. The floors thick with moistened soil. No windows.

A light flickered behind Willow.

“Got it,” said Tara, shining a hastily taped flashlight.

Going to the light, vines shot through their feet, twisting up their legs.

“So I touch this and the soul will possess me?” asked Tara.

“What if it messes up your mind? I’ll do it,” pleaded Willow.

“It won’t. You won’t let it happen.” Tara touched the book.

Tara’s eyes whited over. Capillaries’ writhed across her face like raspberry ripple iced cream. Only it was veins in skin and terrifying. “Bonjour, alors tu m'as réveillé pour des conneries effrayantes.”

“She’s French now?” queried Willow.

“Un-American that’s what she is.” Anya shook her head at the cloaked business supplies rep.

They sat around the table, a toddler sized egg sat in the centre covered in birthing goo.

“Why would someone leave their baby at the door?” asked Dawn.

“We can’t be sure, it would be a great deal of help if we knew what it is.” Giles started rummaging through bookcases.

“Gives me the wig thinking about it.” Willow shifted uncomfortably.

“You like eggs.” Pointed out Tara.

“When Giles confirms it’s the sassy boob kind sure but until then shovelling memories. Right Giles?”

“Ah yes the sassy boob kind, I’ll be right on that.” Giles left to get more books.

“Got it!” Willow’s elation in grabbing the chicken gave way to sudden terror of Chicken eye contact. “Quickly pluck it.”

“Sweetie, we don’t need to pluck it.”

“Plucked feathers, that was the ingredient.” Tara gingerly held up a clear bag of feathers. “Then why did you let me chase it?”

“You seemed so determined and the feathers were coming off as you tried.”

Willow’s eyes softened to the beady ones looking back. “I guess that was a nicer way of doing it.” Beady eyes squinted, the chicken squawked a disturbance. “Tara, the cloaca’s cloacaing.”

“Let go.”

“Me or the chicken?”

Author's Note - Been looking into the meanings of entropy. The best way I can grasp it is the more uncertainty or discourse, messiness, then the more entropy something has. At the end of Entropy Tara's body language isn't exactly saying 'YAY!' Its slumped, almost defeatist. Until she takes that breath and then its a 'I'm doing this' attitude but the vocals are still downtrodden and her head remains down. is that a fear of rejection or a question of should she be doing this or falling to her own vice? What gets her to that door? What thoughts drive her? Then there's the flip, to start it was Willow at her door and now it's Tara at Willow's door. Willow didn't really know what she wanted back then either. She had high entropy. Perhaps their love has always been high entropy.

Loss of appetite, a sick feeling in the pit of your stomach. At first it’s because you’re full, so full of life and happiness and just a look fills your stomach with an all you can eat buffet. Then the sickness. The hunger of being missed. That emptiness that you can’t refill alone. Then its nausea, the belief of everything that once was was now rotten.

When did the rotten start to seem fresh again? Or were things so rotten that the difference wasn’t important anymore? Anything added was more rot so rot became fresh.

Tara sagged on the doorframe.

Before the ball hit the store front, they legged it. The glass smashed as their backs pressed against the brick wall.

“Oh God,” said Tara.

“Xander why did you kick a soccer ball at us?” Willow smacked his arm for good measure.

“Ow! With Giles away I thought, England, Footie and pie.” He smiled at his poor English accent imitation. “Anyway I didn’t know Tara was some kind of sleeper striker.”

“We should go help.” Xander placed his arm in front of Tara and shook his head.


“What is this?” Anya inspected the dropped pie box. “That treacherous Mayor’s wife!”

Her nose tingled as she failed to supress a smile. Her feet moved with bounce as did her whole mood. It was light, it was exciting and it was all she needed to knock on the door.

A different door opened. “Will, whatcha doing? That’s your door you can just walk in.”

Willow felt the lightness lift from her. Weight dragging her down. “I had a feeling. A good feeling. Don’t get many of those. Wanted to live it. I know I can’t, not yet, but, when I used to knock on her door.”

“Ice cream,” said Buffy.

“Ice cream.”

Willow and Tara shared a look, surprised it took Anya this long to work out Dawn’s infatuation with Xander for the past four years.

“Ya don’t say,” said Willow.

“She’s fourteen,” reasoned Tara.

“Well I’m over a thousand years old, I can do things to him she couldn’t even dream of!”

“Does that make Dawn more age appropriate?”

Willow placed a finger on her lips to Tara. She raised three fingers then curled them down. Pointed to Tara, mimed coughing then indicated she’d bang the TV.

Tara raised her eyebrow.

Willow raised her fingers.

The cough came after the bang.

“Everything alright in there?”

“Non fuzzy picture, Mr Giles.”

“No plane ticket required. Just a nudge in the right direction.” Willow beamed.

“Yes, I must have banged it to the left.”

Notes came at a trickle yet they flooded Tara’s soul. ‘I wanna show you something’ was what Willow had said. Little did Tara know that she’d be walking into a practice room in the music department to be met with the most beautiful song she’d ever heard. it was a classical piece heard before but to hear music being played just for her was an experience newly felt.

Willow stopped playing.

“Beautiful.”

“Kinda rusty. And I don’t play for people.”

“You played for me.”

“Well you’re not people.”

Tara lowered her head, she knew she’d work it out.

“You’re you.”

Red tape. There’s never any red tape it’s all metaphorical. In real life she and Buffy had snuck under police tape all the time, although that’s yellow but not the point. Why be told you can’t. These people did. Just because it didn’t work for them doesn’t mean It couldn’t for her.

“Flicking those pages all frowny. You ok?”

Willow closed the book. Sat up straight. “Yeah, I erm, just er, witch trials.”

“Aw Sweetie.” Tara kissed the top of Willow’s head. “Enough for today.” Tara took the book and placed it on the side.

More red tape thought Willow.

Willow took her smoothie to the glare of Tara. They went for smoothies to curb the caffeine wake up but hey, Tara liked her babbles.

“Next up Fresh Seaman, Seaweed, Kale, avocado, peaches, grate of ginger, sprig of mint.”

Willow raised an eyebrow at Tara’s liquidated Kermit. Green suited her.

“Last we got Mango. Just mango.”

Buffy took her drink to the looks of everyone. “What? I have enough complications in my life.”

Stifling heat filled the machine laden room. Various video game characters yelled their catchphrases as the girls wondered the room unknown them and them unknown to each other. Pizza grease permeated the air. Despite the eye watering stench of Mr Sheen combating the grease, it was clear grease won as the controller polish.

A pink bear rubbing its holey tummy started to chuckle. “Give me yummy. Fill my tummy.”

Little plastic honey pots rolled towards them. They each picked one up. Willow shrugged then threw the first. Tickets rattled out the machine.

Tara ripped the ticket perforation. 1 memory ticket.

Even being horizontal didn’t add comfort to the Spiderman and Mary-Jane upside down kiss but they stayed in that position regardless. Their backs on the floor, heads resting on each other’s shoulder. Arms crossing their fronts. Restful silliness their future neck crick would remind them of later.

“Would you do it? Be a kid again?”

“Why, found a miracle cream that works?” joked Tara.

“No cream. Just be a kid again no responsibility, no stress.”

Tara wanted to take Willow’s hand but realised how ridiculous that would be in this position. “Not every kid’s that lucky. Would you?”

Willow shrugged.

Crypts and graveyards made sense. Rise up and there they are. Then you have the mansions and opulence from centuries of wealth. Although if it’s the same person could it be considered generational wealth?

Wading through grass towering their shoulders it crossed Willow’s mind if this was suburb living for Vampires. A boarded up house surrounded by a wild yard. Willow led their way to the house as Tara covered their trail.

“Can’t they see us coming?” asked Tara as she reluctantly forced nature to her will.

“Don’t think a board twitch to see us is worth the burnt retinas.”

Tara lifted her chin onto Willow’s shoulder, pecking her cheek. “No dying. We can’t talk if you’re dead.”

“We can. You’ll call me up on the Ouija. Or I’ll call you. However it works.”

“It’s not a simple phone call, Sweetie.”

“Sounds like you want me to haunt you. I’ll haunt you too but it would be nice to talk.”

Willow mulled over her own cup, sitting at the kitchen island. “I don’t get why we have to do this. We both know he’s been doing it anyway.”

“From being creepy stalkeryness?”

The door opened to the ping of the microwave. Spike threw off his smoking blanket, holding a crumpled note in the air. “What’s this ponce about then?”

“We need a babysitter,” said Willow.

Tara pushed forward the warm blood and blooming onion.

“Telekinesis?”

“Uh huh. This article says they saw a woman throw an Albino man across a park in San Francisco but she was meters away from him.” Willow noticed Tara’s lack of enthusiasm about this. “This says that it could be possible psychologically meaning that she convinced him to throw himself back with a look or the wave of her arm. I think it isn't brain persuasion. What if she’s a witch?”

Tara nudged back against Willow. “Check you out, seeing magic in the world.”

Willow shielded the flame as she came to sit on the coffee table in front of Tara. “Happy Birthday.”

Tara blew out the candle on top of a cupcake and thanked Willow by way of a kiss.

“Made sure the flame would go out. Thought about one of those candles but then thought one year without you fear facing. Last year was eh and the year before was all demony and this year you kinda did the opposite of birth and now I don’t know if today is or if the other one.”

“Or do you not use a capital T for twenty?”

The boy threw his head back and groaned. “Oh my days, you two got no rizz, just take me to the GOAT.”

“Rizz? Like the crackers?”

“Goat. You want animal crackers?"

“The past is so mid. Want. Buffy.”

“Oh yeah well, what if they called you . . . Tantrum Tara?”

Tara took a moment to think it over. “When do I tantrum?”

“When do I whomp?” Willow threw out her arms accidently knocking books off the desk. “Ignore that.”

Buffy lazily knocked again. When she got in from patrol and her Mom told her Willow left a panicky message, Buffy had rushed right over. It was making little sense why Willow was being so reluctant to open her door.

Faint bickering was heard before the handle turned. “No need to go all huffy puffy, Buffy.” Willow stuck her head around the door. Then her body. Then Tara’s head, attached to Tara’s neck, attached to Willow’s body.

Buffy blinked. “They say two heads are better than one.”

“Yeah.” Willow began to chew the corner of her nail. “I used to lose myself in studying and if I lose myself in something,”

Willow stepped back leaving Tara’s arm in a longing reach.

Warmth from the tea touched Tara’s skin pressing on the smooth ceramic. She allowed her little finger to run against the rough bottom rim, thumb brushing the small chip on the handle.

It doesn’t feel evil.

Tara didn’t feel evil but evil couldn’t feel, couldn’t touch but there’s a lot Tara didn’t understand about herself. Could feel the cup. If she was the First would she be aware of it?

A hand rubbed her back. “Any idea when the coffee brewed?”

“Oh don’t drink that, Molly spit in Rona’s then Rona poured it back”

Willow grimaced. ”Evil.”

They scanned the field, nothing for miles and they’d been futilely trekking all morning. Tara pointed out a small building in the distance to Willow. “I’ve got an idea.”


“You okay?”

Willow was most certainly not okay sat on top of the oversized arm muncher. “You said safety and fun. No safety. Not so much fun.” Willow wobbled as the horse adjusted itself.

“Hold on to me tight.” Tara instantly felt the swath of trembling limbs wrapping around her waist and fast pounding heart pressed against her back.

Their muscles tensed as the horse began to canter out the stable.

Willow knew it was due to the stress but they’d all sacrificed something in this. “Tara knows how to ride.”

A pyjamaed Tara looked up from picking her bandage. A grin full of cluelessness.

Buffy touched Willow’s arm. “I’m sure she’d help if she could but it’s not an option right now.”
