A Moment of Pure Love
Chapter 5

"Shit," Buffy screamed as she ran down the stairs to the door. "No-one's supposed to be here for another two hours."
The slayer quickly toweled her hair off, then opened the door. There, smiling at her in the California sunshine were the two Wiccans, each of them holding a baby carseat.
"Whoa...you two are early," the dripping slayer stated the obvious. "Oh...come in, get the little ones out of the sunlight!"
Willow and Tara sat down on the couch and took their daughters out of the carseats while Buffy ran upstairs to get dressed.
"You two caught me in the shower...I wasn't expecting you for another hour at least," the blonde slayer said, walking down the stairs, now fully dressed.
"Yeah, sorry about that but we have something we'd like to talk to you about," Willow told Buffy, taking the slayer's hand in her own. "Sit down for a second."
"Ummm, Wil, this is all making me a bit nervous, and a nervous slayer is never a good thing. What's this all about?" Buffy eyed the Wiccans warily.
"W-well," Tara began, "we sort of have a favor to ask you."
"Wow, babysitting already?" The smaller blonde joked.
"No, not babysitting, but it does have to do with the twins," said Tara. "See, Willow and I discussed this last night and we decided that we want you to be Kailah and Kennah's godmother, if you're willing," the blonde witch finished, smiling at Buffy.
Buffy looked at the twins sitting quietly in their carseats. MacKennah, who they had dressed in a deep purple newborn onesie and matching beanie, was looking around at the world as if summing up her surroundings. The purple of the little girl's hat was dark in contrast to her bright red hair. MacKailah was sleeping soundly, her jade green beanie hat all askew on her tiny blonde head.
"May I hold her?" Buffy asked shyly, looking at MacKennah.
"Of course Buff, you don't have to ask first. You're going to be a big part of their lives from now on," the redhead encouraged.
Buffy gently picked the tiny form up out of her carseat and held her in her arms. The look on her face as she studied the infant was awe in it's purest form.
"Yes. I'll be their Godmother," Buffy said, looking up from MacKennah's bright green eyes long enough to smile at the Wiccans.
As the baby settled down in Buffy's arms, falling asleep with a small sigh, the Slayer finally relaxed her tense - almost scared - posture. Almost instantly after, MacKailah started wailing, making the nervous slayer jump a mile.
"Wow...is it always like that?" Buffy asked, here eyes wide. "One sleeps, the other's crying?"
"One sleeps, the other's crying, one's hungry, the other won't eat, one's wet, the other's dry. Never the same thing at the same time," Willow said, suddenly looking very tired.
"And speaking of hungry, looks like this one is feeling starved," she said, picking her daughter up and lifting the front of her gauzy red peasant top.
"Um, Wil, I know that's all with the natural and whatnot, but you do realize that as soon as Xander sees that he's going to burst," Buffy said, suddenly finding something quite interesting to look at in the carpet at her feet.
"Oh, I know, we brought a bottle of pre-pumped milk to avoid that situation altogether, actually - speaking of which, Tare, would you put the bottle in the fridge?" Tara hopped up and grabbed the bottle out of the diaper bag, stealing a kiss from her girlfriend as she walked into the kitchen.
"So Wil, how is it you were released from the hospital so quickly after the babies were born?" Buffy asked, finding the courage to look at the nursing mother as she spoke her question. "I mean, they were born a month and a half early, aren't there usually complications when kids are premature?"
"Well, they were both of acceptable birth weight, Kailah was five pounds five ounces and Kennah was five pounds three ounces, and both their lungs were healthy and there seemed to be no other problems. The doctor said sometimes that's the case with twins." Willow smiled at Buffy as she raised MacKailah to burp her. "Guess they just didn't want to miss out on anything."
Luckily for Willow MacKailah was full, because not two minutes after feeding, the doorbell rang, followed soon after by Anya, Xander and Dawn, all bearing piles of wrapped presents and various foodstuffs. Anya and Dawn made tracks to the kitchen to set everything down and soon the three women and two babies were surrounded by the three. After everyone had had their chance to hold MacKailah, (Buffy was being very protective over her other, more sleepy Goddaughter) Anya, Dawn, Xander and Tara vacated to the kitchen to make food that would go into bellies.
Finally, everyone had filled their stomachs and the twins were awake and back in their mothers' arms. Everyone was kicked back and feeling pretty content when suddenly Dawn hopped up and squealed, running into the other room. She came back in carrying an armload of presents, which she promptly set at the witches' feet and placed her hands on her hips.
"You two. Pressies. Now." The teenager demanded.
"And I think the lady has spoken," Xander stated, getting up out of his chair. "And I will be Coffee Boy, all come to me with orders for coffee."
Everyone shouted their requests to him as Willow and Tara began tearing into the heaping pile of presents at their feet. Xander came back in the room holding a tray of steaming mugs and began doling them out.
"Two caffeine free herbal teas for the Magickal Mommies," he said, setting the cups on coasters before them. "One coffee black for the small blonde slayer girl. One vanilla coke for the teenybopper Dawnster.
"And last but not least, one coffee with sugar for my sugarpie, and one coffee with sugar and cream for the Xand Man."
That said, Xander sat back down and took an extra large manly-sized gulp of his coffee, after which his face began turning a rather strange shade of green.
"Uhm, Buff...you should probably check the date of that creamer in the 'fridge." He stated, moving the coffee cup as far away from him as he could get it.
"Um Xander...there was no creamer in the refridgerator." The slayer got up to double check her 'fridge.
"Xander, was this the creamer bottle you used," she asked, holding up a smallish glass bottle with a blue lid.
"Yep, you should probably throw it out now, it tastes kind of weird."
Buffy, Willow and Tara all started laughing, tears rolling out of their eyes and faces red.
Willow looked at her long-time friend with a look of complete amusement on her face and said,
"Xander, that was my breast milk for the babies!"
