* * * * *

After much internalizing, she reached out, picked up the telephone receiver and placed the call.

“Oh... um, hi. It’s me, but you must know that by now, I mean how could not know. Anyway, I thought I’d call and say hello. Hello. I... I was wondering if you’d like to go out... for coffee maybe? Not pushing for coffee...”

“Hello?”

“OH... hi.”

“Will... Willow is that you?” Tara asked. She had returned to her room and rushed to grab the phone, only to hear her ex babbling on the other side of the line.

“Yes, that would be me,” Willow answered grimacing. She wondered exactly how much Tara had heard, she hadn’t meant to get caught practicing.

“Did... did you say something about coffee?” Tara asked as she briefly glanced at the nightstand next to her bed and focused on the picture frame and the photo held within.

It was taken while they were totally unaware; they had fallen asleep after a long night of research, which was nothing new to either of them. Willow was slumped against her and her head laid on top of Willow’s, once again, nothing new. The thing that made the picture precious to Tara was simply the smiles on their faces.

And the conversation she’d overheard, as she drifted back to

consciousness...

“It’s ‘cause they love each other right?” Dawn had asked.

“What is?” Buffy replied.

“The way they smile in their sleep... it’s ‘cause they love each

other right?”

Buffy’s answer had been honest, brief and touching, “Yes.”

“Yes what?” Willow asked having woken up.

“Don’t worry about it Will,” Buffy replied.

“That’s so cool,” Dawn answered with her usual enthusiasm.

“Huh?” Willow uttered.

“Don’t worry about it baby,” she’d whispered in her ear, and looked at Buffy and smiled.

She heard Willow’s voice and cleared her mind of the past and focused on the now.

“Coffee?” Willow repeated.

“Ya know, the caffeinated beverage made with coffee beans?”

“Yeah, coffee. Silly me.”

“Did... do you want to...”

“Oh yes,” Willow answered quickly.

“Will... it’s only coffee,” Tara gently reminded.

“I know. But... maybe there could be some muffin-y goodness too?” Willow asked hesitatingly.

A word popped into Tara’s head and not bothering to suppress the smile on her face, ‘Vixen,’ she thought. “Perhaps,” she replied.

“That’s great... I mean good,” Willow said. “What’s a good time for you?”

“We could go after my last class, if that’s okay with you?”

“It wouldn’t matter. I’d change my plans...”

“Will... you don’t have to do that for me,” Tara interrupted.

“I’d want to,” she replied softly.

A flood of emotion washed over Tara she registered those words. “How... how’s Dawn?” she asked suddenly.

“She’s good. She’s um... she’s been asking about you,” Willow replied thinking back to the conversation they’d had.

“When is Tara moving back in.”

“I don’t know Dawnie... it’s up to her you know,” she’d said.

“I wish she’d hurry up. My tummy is still rumbly.”

“Mine too.”

“Willow?”

“Huh?”

“I said would you let her know that whenever she wants to go for milkshakes, I’m her girl.”

“Sure... not a problem,” Willow replied.

“Are you okay?” Tara asked as she heard Willow’s tone change.

“I’m fine... but I’d better get going,” she said rather than dwell on the ache she’d felt at Tara’s comment. ‘You used to be my girl’, she thought morosely.

“I’m not keeping you from anything am I?”

“No. No, not at all,” Willow shook her head. “Actually I have to get ready... for my meeting,” she said. She heard an intake of breath on the other side.

“That’s good... I’m proud of you,” Tara whispered.

She smiled, “Tomorrow?”

“Four o’clock.”

“It’s a date... for coffee,” Willow added hastily.

“It’s a date, Will. Bye,” she said, adding silently, ‘I love you.’

“Bye, Tara.”

Willow hung up the phone, staring it at it for a moment or two before giving in to her urge. She brought her right hand to her lips and touched the phone.

“I love you, Tara.”

Sighing, she grabbed her jacket and began to head out when she stopped in her tracks. She slowly turned around and focused on the phone.

“She didn’t correct me that time,” she told herself. A smile lit up her features. “She didn’t say it wasn’t a date.” Her smile turned into a frown in record time. “Oh no... what am I going to wear... I need to ask Buffy... where’s Buffy...”

The ringing phone interrupted her panic attack.

“Hello?”

“You can ask Buffy what to wear later... now go on, scoot to your meeting.”

“Tara?”

“Don’t be late.”

“How did you know?”

“I... I’d like to think I know you...”

“Oh, you do. You do.”

“Willow...”

“Yes, Tara?”

Taking a deep breath, she whispered, “I love you...”

“Me too.”

“Tomorrow?”

“Okay.”

“Bye,” Tara said as she hung up the phone once more.

Willow hung up, straightened her shoulders and strode out of her room to head for the meeting.

“Look out Sunnydale,” she began to say as she left the house, “I’ve got a date with my baby tomorrow and nothing is going to stop me.”

That was a really sweet take on a "missing moment." I really liked the way you wrote Willow and Tara's dialogue. Very realistic. I look foreward to reading your next piece.

This is really cool so far. I like how you get the characters to go back into like, a flashback, it helps you get the feeling better.

That was lovely. And Tara ringing back because she knew Willow would be deliberating about what to wear. Shows how much she knows her girl. As I said - lovely!

Hi, um Tara..how are you? well...I was wondering maybe you want to go out some time...for coffee? food? Kisses and gay love?

I was pouting at the beginning of this story because 'There You Are' hadn't been update. Now I'm grinning like a maniac. that was so sweet, so touching, and so very Willow and Tara. Just how they'd behave. Tara's telling Willow she was proud of her - lovely.

Finally, things seemed to be going my way.

Everything in my life seemed to be falling neatly into place.

And I… I was filled with happiness. Something I hadn't experienced in a long time and never thought I ever would again.

It pains me to know that I don't have anyone to share it with at least, not any more.

Granted, I thought I had someone, someone that would complete the part of me that was missing.

While it lasted, it was everything I could have ever asked for. And as I look around my room vaguely checking my surroundings, I utter the word-"Wished"-for.

I admit I had made wishes when I was younger; to find my true love, never believing that they would come true, everyone does at one time or another.

Even at the end, I wanted… NO, I needed to give her that second, third, fourth chance.

Then I realized.

I couldn't.

Not anymore and expect to survive intact.

It pained me more than I expected but less that I thought when I finally left.

Not a day goes by when I don't doubt my decision. It was one of the hardest things I've ever done.

And with my history, that's saying a lot.

I think back to all the things we went through.

I went over everything, trying, seeking the one thing that would tip the scales in her favor.

The good…

Every sweet moment that has etched itself in my heart…

And I wanted to stop there...

I didn't want to look further.

‘Don’t do it… stop. There’s still a chance,’ I kept telling myself.

Yet, after much soul searching, I realized that the good times we shared wouldn't be enough.

The scales were tipped-and no matter how much I wanted to stay...

I knew I couldn't.

So, I tore my soul in half, leaving a gaping wound that may never heal.

I miss Willow...

So much.

Each time we meet in passing another dagger is driven into me.

And it hurts to feel that I may have failed her.

'What-ifs’ abound in my mind.

'What if I had done this, or what if I had stood up to her sooner.’

"What if, what if?"

A silent litany, running on a continuous feedback loop.

I trusted our bond, put every bit of faith I had into trusting her with everything I am.

And she broke it.

Without looking back, no hesitation.

With utter deliberation.

She may not have thought about it in those terms at the time but, that's what it was.

Deliberate.

I wasn't sure then, as I'm not sure now, if I can ever forgive her.

I want to… so much.

It's difficult not to forgive her.

Perhaps one day I can.

Perhaps I'll actually feel my arms around her. The sensation of her body pressed close to mine.

The thought of being home within her grasp...

Perhaps tonight my dreams won't be haunted by her and everything we had.

Mm-maybe soon, my dreams will be filled with new memories of a love burning bright.

For a love that has a name:

Willow.

The End.

Author's Note: This was written in a flurry after hearing the phrase, "Meet Someone Like You" on the radio.

Spoiler: Takes place during the fourth season.

~~~~~~~~~~
All I thought about when I saw you standing there was, 'I've never met someone like you.'
Which was odd, considering we hadn't spoken... yet.
But, I knew that you were someone special.
Someone I wanted to know.
Someone, I could see myself spending every waking moment with.
All of this and so much more, from a single glance...
One that took my breath away.
And made my heart beat in such a manner, that I was sure it was going to burst.
I gasped out loud when you turned my way...
You had smiled.
And I...
I melted.
If it wasn't for the wall I was standing next to, I knew I would have dropped to my knees and given my heartfelt thanks...
Thanks, that I was allowed to be in your presence, to be able to gaze upon your beauty.
To sink into it willingly.
You...
You were all I could see.
Everyone else was a blur, going faster than I could track. But, it didn't bother me, for all I wanted to see was you.
My hand moved to my forehead and my tongue moistened my dry lips.
I burned...
I felt a blaze building inside of me.
And I knew what had started the flame.
You had...
Without a single word...
With just one glance.
And I wanted this fire to engulf me, so that I could rise like a Phoenix from the ashes.
Glowing brilliantly with your love.
I could see myself doing things with you.
Some that I've never imagined...
Others, I'd like to share.
I knew you would teach me so much, and I...
I am eager to learn.
Learn...
Your touches...
Your kisses...
And most importantly...
I wanted to learn what it was to have...
Your love.
I saw you leaving and without knowing it, you had taken my heart with you.
I needed to know, what do I had to do...
To meet someone like you.
"Tara."
"Ye-yes," she replied reluctantly tearing her gaze from the spot where the redhead had been standing
"Can I copy your notes for class?"
"Um... ss-sure."
"Great. I appreciate it."
"Nn-no problem."
Taking another quick look, Tara sighed. The redhead was truly gone perhaps she'd see her again.
She hoped so.
The End.
Disclaimer: Joss Whedon, Fox Studios, Mutant Enemy, et al, have something to do with "Buffy The Vampire Slayer". No copyright infringement is intended or inferred. The story is the sole property of the author.
Author's Note: This story involves Buffy and Willow... BUT, not in a way you might think. Just thought I'd put that here.
Buffy ran after Willow, waiting until she had closed the gap between them before calling out to the other girl. "Will!!" The red-head turned around and saw Buffy approaching her.
"Hi Buffy. What's going on?" she asked, smiling at her friend.
"Nothing much. I just wanted to know if every thing's set for tomorrow?" she asked as they continued to walk across the campus grounds.
"Oh yeah!" she answered excitedly.
"Gotta hand it to you Will. Throwing a party for Tara is a great idea. Does she know yet?" Buffy asked.
"Nope. I got to the mail first and when I saw it... well."
"You tore it open right then and there didn't you," Buffy said smiling at Willow's apparent embarassment.
"Yeah, she said I could. So, it wasn't like I was breaking any federal laws or anything," she said seriously.
"I don't think Tara would have call the cops on you Will," Buffy told her.
She was happy for her best friend, Tara was good for Willow and it showed.
Now, if only Tara could get just a little bit more assertive, and not hang in the background, it would be perfect.
"Penny for your thought," Willow asked.
"I was just thinking how good Tara is for you, that's all."
"Oh, she is," Willow replied wholeheartedly, coming to a stop. "Buffy..."
"Yeah?" Buffy answered, wondering why they had stopped in the middle of the walkway.
"I... I want to thank you."
"For what?" she asked confused.
"For not totally freaking out when I told you."
"Will..."
"I know, I know, but, I just had to say it anyway."
Buffy shook her head, then glancing off to the side, she said, "Hey... isn't that..."
"Tara," Willow finished for her as she followed Buffy's gaze.
Buffy was truly in awe, for although Willow and Tara had been together for three years now, the look on Willow's face never faltered. She seemed to glow each time she was with Tara, and Buffy could see as the blonde-haired Wiccan walked over towards them, that Willow seemed to have the same effect on her.
Willow already had her hand held out, and Buffy wondered briefly if Willow even knew she did it, or was it just a natural reaction when she saw the other girl. Tara smiled and took Willow's out-stretched hand and kissed her briefly, before turning to Buffy.
"Hi Buffy," she said.
"Hey Tara, good to see you."
"I'm standing here too you know," Willow said, her lips slightly pouty.
"Oh, I could never not notice you," Tara replied seriously, giving Willow's hand a gentle squeeze.
"Well, see that you don't."
"I promise."
Buffy knew that the brief exchange; although somewhat playful in its manner, went deeper than it appeared. "I've got to be going... slayer-type things to do," she said.
"Are you sure? I.. I hope I wasn't interrupting anything," Tara asked.
"Nah... I was about to skee-daddle anyway," Buffy answered, then turned in Willow's direction. "I'll call you after patrol... there's some stuff Giles wanted me to go over with you.. but," she added when she noticed the look on Tara's face. "It can wait until later."
"Sure, no problem," Willow replied.
"Talk to you later, bye," Buffy said as she left the two girls alone.
"So... do you have any plans for tonight?" Willow asked.
"Well, I did tell my girlfriend that I'd watch some program on the Discovery channel with her."
"Really? I think I can top that," Willow replied, slowly leading Tara towards the dorm.
"What could be better than watching the Discovery channel with my girlfriend?" she asked.
Willow leaned in and whispered into Tara's ear. When she pulled away she was not surprised to see Tara blushing. It was one on the many little things she loved about the other girl, and she hoped it wouldn't change. "So..."
"Only if..." Tara smiled as she completed her response in Willow's ear.
"Come on... come on. Time's awastin'. You're too slow," Willow said, urging Tara to move faster.
She'd have time to discuss the party with Buffy later.
Right now, she had more important things to do.
The End.
Leap Into The Past
By A.M. Glass
Rating: 'PG-13'
Copyright: June 14th, 2000.
Revised Copy: August 16th, 2002.
Author's Notes:This story is a cross-over with another television show; which sadly isn't on anymore, "Quantum Leap." This isn't what you would call a direct cross-over, I've used the premise of the show for the story. Ziggy and a special guest are the only two characters from the show that make an appearance in the story. In order for the story to work, I have taken a slight liberty on Marti Noxon's excellent script; New Moon Rising, and I do mean slight, and I've incorrporated a few lines from the episode for this story. I'm not sure if you're going to like this or not, it's a departure from what I've written in the past.
Disclaimer: Joss Whedon, Fox Studios, Mutant Enemy, et al, have something to do with "Buffy The Vampire Slayer". No copyright infringement is intended or inferred. The story is the sole property of the author. "Quantum Leap" was conceived by Donald Bellasario and in part by Universal Studios.
Chapter 1
Willow thought to herself; as she watched Tara from across the desk, that she had been looking at her every chance she could get. It was if she were memorizing the other girl's features, making sure that she could call them up whenever she wanted to. That made her think, why?.
Why was this happening?
Why was she excited to be in her presence?
And more importantly...
Why was she excited?
Period.
Her breath caught when Tara looked over to her suddenly, there wasn't enough time for her to look away. And for the brief moment, their eyes locked, neither of them said a word. They didn't need to. Then just as suddenly, Tara's gaze went back to the book she was reading.
Willow shook her head, what ever had happened was intense. Too intense for words. She felt her heart racing in her chest, her pulse throbbing in her neck.
"Tara... I've got to go," she said as she pushed away from the desk.
"Are... are you sure?" Tara asked quietly.
"Umm... yes. I... I just remembered something I had to do. Can we get together tomorrow?"
Tara looked away from Willow, her face frowning as she went over her schedule for the next morning. "I... I can't. This was... th-the only time I had. I'm sorry Willow," she said with a forlorn expression on her face.
"Oh.. no. Tara, it's not your fault, really," Willow replied, reaching across the desk and gently squeezing Tara's hand before releasing it. "It's my fault," she whispered as she noticed the stares she was getting from the other students that were sitting next their table in the library.
"Would you two just kiss and make up. Geez, I've got a test to study for," a male student grumbled loud enough for Tara and Willow to hear.
Their eyes locked once again, both noticing the blush covering their cheeks.
"May.. maybe... we'd..." Tara stuttered.
"Better go?" Willow suggested.
"Thank you," the student said sarcastically.
They gathered their books and quickly left the library, never seeing the smile on the student's face. Waiting until they had left the building, he got up from the desk, shouldering his back pack and exited the library.
"Well, how did it go?" he was asked moments after leaving the building.
"Geez, I'd wish you wouldn't do that. Fine."
"What did you say?"
"I told them to kiss and make up. You should have seen them leave," he said as they rounded the corner of the library. "Hey, what's going on?" he asked as his companion stood in front of him with a worried look.
"We can't mess this up," came the reply.
"Alright... alright. How much time do we have left?" he asked.
"Four days."
"Four days? You've got to be kidding. Is that enough time?" he said, walking across the campus and heading for the student parking lot.
"The next full moon takes place two days from now, and we know he's headed here."
"So what," he said as he opened the car door. "Come on, you've seen how they look at each other. You'd have to be blind not to see it."
"They are close, but..."
"What?" he said pulling out of the parking lot and heading east.
"The information I have... well, it's not complete."
"Alright Kim, what aren't you telling me?"
"It's not good," Kim replied as the scenery passed by.
"Let's me get something to eat first. Then you can tell me." he said.
"Deal," she sighed. She hoped that everything would work out.
Chapter 2
The two Wiccans walked silently, each afraid to bring up what had been said at the library. Tara quickly glanced at Willow, her heart skipping a beat. The sun shone down on Willow, illuminating her hair, making it seem alive with fire, or so Tara thought.
"Well... ummm," Willow started but found she lacked the courage to continue.
"Yeah... ummm," Tara agreed.
"I... I hope it didn't bother you. What that guy said," Willow uttered.
"Oh... nn...nn... no. It didn't. You?"
"Me? I guess not."
"That's good," Tara said nodding her head.
"I've got to go," Willow stated, fighting the urge to touch Tara, even if briefly.
"Oh.. yeah. I'll.... I'll talk to you later?" she asked.
"Sure. I... bye," Willow said as she left Tara. She knew that if she turned around, she'd see Tara standing there, watching her leave. 'Oh goddess. What am I going to do?' she asked herself as she hurried towards her dorm room.
Tara sighed as she watched Willow disappear from view. She decided to take a walk around the campus grounds. She knew that she was in love with Willow. She had known this for a long time now. The only thing she didn't know was how Willow felt for her. There were times, when she'd sneak a glance in Willow's direction that she thought she saw something.
What was clear; at least to her, was the fact that Willow enjoyed being in her company. And that was a major plus in her book. She smiled as she thought of the red-headed beauty, how her day would be complete just by being in her presence.
A frown quickly replaced the smile.
She didn't enjoy saying goodnight.
She could never seem to come up with a reason to delay the inevitible.
To keep Willow's presence in her room for just one more second.
One more moment.
To add to the growing file in her mind, of her Willow memories.
And each time Willow left, Tara felt as if a part of her was missing.
Granted, there had been nights when Willow had slept over. And that's all that had happened.
They slept.
Tara was more than willing to give up her bed, and had every intention of sleeping on the floor with a blanket and pillow. Of course the first time she suggested the sleeping arrangements, was the first time she had ever seen the what she now knew to be Willow's resolve face'.
She couldn't sleep the first time. She was far too excited. Here was Willow, her heart's desire...
In her bed... sleeping.
As soon as she was sure that Willow had indeed fallen asleep, she took her time to look at her. Really look at her. She knew after that first night, there wasn't anything in the world that could surpass the feeling of being able to watch her sleep. To listen to the small little noises she made during the night. And, to have felt Willow's body next to hers.
She was sure that she had died and gone to a greater reward when Willow moved and ended up draped against her. Her heart was racing so fast, she was surprised that it hadn't pushed its way out.
Now, because of what some student had said, she had a feeling that she was going to lose Willow some how. She'd noticed that Willow had not reached out to her when they parted.
It was one of the things she loved. Willow would touch her briefly, and she relished the contact, no matter how long or short it was. It was a validation of their friendship. Willow seemed to infuse each touch with love.
It could only be that... or so she hoped.
Noticing that it was getting late, Tara headed back to her dorm.
Chapter 3
"Alright. What's going on?" he asked as he tossed the remainders of his trash away.
Over the next half hour, Kim explained what they were there to accomplish.
"You're pulling my leg right?" he asked after Kim had finished.
"No. I wish I was. If they don't get together..."
"Rod's not going to be born. So, why don't we just eliminate this..." he thought of the name he had heard earlier. "Osbourne character?"
"We can't stop him from coming here. Too many things depend on his arrival."
"What do you mean?"
"In this time line, Willow Rosenberg and Daniel OzOsbourne get married after he is shot and nearly killed."
" 'This time line'?"
"I keep forgetting the Swiss-cheese effect. We still haven't been able to correct that yet," Kim muttered to herself. "Pat, I know this is difficult for you to understand, but something's happened to change history. He's not supposed to be shot. They're not supposed to be married. Willow Rosenberg and Tara Maclay..."
"Yeah, I understand that part," Patrick interrupted, "If they don't get together... Rod's history... or... not really history... as he's never been born yet? And if he's never born, we're never able to crack the genetic code for..."
"Yes, exactly," Kim tells him. "No one in our time-line remembers who Rod is... or rather was, except for Ziggy and Admiral Calavicci. And I only know because of what Ziggy sends me over the handlink. It's very confusing."
"You're telling me? So what are we supposed to do anyway?"
"I wish Dr. Beckett was still here, he's had more experience in... Putting right what once went wrong."
"But, he is here... isn't he? I mean, he's still alive at this point in time?" Pat asked as he searched his memories of a man he thought he might have met before.
"Yes, but at this point in time, we weren't able to bring him back. It won't happen for another ten years," Kim said, recalling the exact moment Dr. Samuel Beckett returned to the Quantum Leap project in New Mexico. There wasn't a dry eye in the house. It was a joyous reunion, although bitter-sweet, as Gooshie, dear sweet Gooshie had died before they were able to finally lock on Dr. Beckett.
Since Dr. Beckett's return, the government poured more money into the project, allowing the retrieval process to become a reality and not a happenstance occurrence brought by the calculations by Samantha Jo Fuller.
Ever since, they had been able to send more than one person leaping. And only on extremely important cases was the time line ever tampered with. And this was one of those cases. Otherwise the project continued as what it was conceived to be, an opportunity to observe history as it happened.
"So what do we do then?" Patrick asked.
"Ziggy says that there's only a thirty percent chance that they will get together this time around," Kim answered, glancing at the blinking handlink that kept her connected with the hybrid computer in the future. "We've got to change that. But it means that you're going to leap again."
"Again?"
"Yeah... into a solider," Kim looked down at the blinking multi-colored handlink. "By the name of..." she shook the handlink, trying to get the rest of the text to dislay. Kim looked up, "...Riley Finn."
"Great," he sighed. "When does this..." he stopped as the familiar rush hit him.
"Bye Pat," Kim told him as he was enveloped by a bluish-white light. Kim looked over at the body of the male student that Patrick had occupied lying on the floor. He would wake up with a headache and whatever he remembered would quickly fade away. "Sorry about that kid. Ziggy... are you sure? I mean, what I'm reading. Is it true?" Kim shook her head as she read the information coming across the display. Sighing, she prepared herself. "I'm ready, Ziggy. Center me on Pat."
Chapter 4
Willow made it to the dorm room she shared with Buffy and Amy. Granted Amy took up less space than she and Buffy did combined but she continued to think of her as a room mate. She flopped down on her bed, her arms stretched out and stared at the ceiling.
"Amy... what am I going do?" she asked out loud, knowing Amy couldn't say anything, except perhaps squeak. "I... I think I might be falling in love, but I'm not sure, you know." Getting up from the bed, Willow walked over toward Amy's cage and made sure her fellow Witch had enough to eat and drink. "I'll be back later Amy. I need to clear my head." With Amy taken care of, Willow headed out of the room.
Willow thought about all the things she felt when she around the other girl. The important thing was that she never wanted to be apart from her. There was a undeniable connection between them, it was something she had only felt for two other people in her life. As she rounded the corner of one of the campus buildings, she realized that she had unerringly ended up in front of Tara's dorm. She shook her head and decided to go back to her own dorm when she saw Tara.
"Tara," she called out, smiling as the other girl looked around until she spotted her. When Tara smiled back at her, she felt happy. She wasn't sure how else to put it into to words.
"Oh, hi Willow," Tara said as she walked over towards her.
"Um, Tara. I just wanted to say I'm sorry about earlier, in the library," she said, tucking a lock of hair behind her ear.
"Willow. I understand, really I do. Was there something you needed?" she asked.
"Actually, I was just out for a walk, and I ended up here."
Tara smiled. "Do... do you wanna come inside? We... we could still study, if you'd like?" she offered.
"I don't have my books with me."
"That's okay, we can share."
"You don't mind?" Willow asked.
"Oh, no. Of course not. I... I like studying with you," Tara replied, a slight blush on her face.
"Alright," Willow answered, holding out her hand.
Tara looked at the outstretched hand and took it into her own and led Willow inside.
Had they looked at each other, they would have seen smiles on both their faces.
Chapter 5
Riley pulled out his gun and aimed it at the cage containing the HST.
"I don't need a bunch of tests to know that this thing's a killer," he said to the doctor that had just explained that they would need to more time to determine whether or not this was the same HST that attacked Graham and his team. His finger steadily pulled back on the trigger.
"Don't shoot Pat," Kim said urgently, arriving just in the nick of time. "Pat... put the gun down. That's Daniel Osbourne... he's was about to look into signing up for a few courses, when... when he changed." Kim listened as Pat explained that he knew him, and that he was a student, before he was ejected from the area.
"Do you mind explaining to me what's going on?" Pat asked when he finally figured his way out of the place.
"I'm not really sure. We had a hard time getting a lock on you. There's something definitely odd about this place. Three days have already gone by."
"Three days?" he asked, watching Kim nod her head. "Can you tell me what I saw in there?"
"He's... he's a werewolf."
"A WERE..." he lowered his voice as he exited the house. "A werewolf? You're putting me on?"
"No. I don't know... we can't get any information. All I know is that the odds of Willow and Tara getting together just shot up by fifty percent."
"They shot up that high because I... or rather this Finn character didn't shoot him?"
"When we couldn't get a clear lock on you, I had Ziggy pull up the recent files on Willow Rosenberg-Osbourne. I spoke with her Pat. She's really nice, but sad. I told her I was writing an article on the band her husband was in. I asked her about their marriage," Kim paused as she thought about the woman she had spoken to, there was no life in her eyes.
"And?"
"And, she said they got married after he had been shot, and she mumbled something about it being her fault. I tried to get more from her... but then she clammed up. She wouldn't say anything else. I think she felt guilty. I think that's why she married him. She might have loved him once, but now... now it seemed more of an obligation on her part."
"So... why haven't I leaped yet?" he asked, as he continued walking.
"You need to help him escape."
"You want me to help a werewolf escape? Are you out of your mind?"
"Trust me. Do this and you're out of here."
"You're sure?"
"Yes."
"When?" he asked.
"Tonight."
**********
"Well, that went perfectly," Pat whispered to Kim as he sat on a bunk in the brig.
"Pat... you did it."
"What do you mean I did it? We didn't get out."
"It doesn't matter. The time line's been changed. Daniel Osbourne leaves town. Roderick Rosenberg is born five years from now, and by the
time he's eighteen..."
"He cracks the code."
"See you later Pat," Kim smiled as he was sent home.
Chapter 6
"Enjoying the night air?"
Kim turned around quickly when she heard the voice.
"Admiral Calavicci... I... I didn't expect to see you," Kim said surprised.
"Yeah, well I told Sam that I should check up on you. Seeing as you stayed around longer than you had to," he told her puffing on his cigar.
"I... uh... I wanted to make sure everything went okay," she said.
"I don't buy that load of... well. I'm not buying it. You just wanted a peek didn't you?"
She sighed, she had been caught and she knew it.
"It's so..."
"Romantic?" Al supplied.
"Yeah. It's romantic."
"Well kid, which one is it?" he asked, then seeing her puzzled expression, clarified himself. "Which one is her window?"
"Oh... it's that one. Over there," Kim pointed to the window in question.
"Don't you want to go inside and..."
"No... no. I already know what they said. Miss Rosenberg was more than willing to tell me," Kim explained.
"So, what are you sticking around here for then?"
"Wait. There, look."
Al looked up at the window and saw a faint illumination coming from the room. "What's that?" he asked.
"A candle... an extra-flamey candle," Kim replied smiling, as she went over the conversation Willow and Tara were having at the moment.
"What happened?" Al asked when the light went out suddenly.
"Oh... nothing," she said blushing. "I'm ready to leave now Admiral," Kim said turning to face the distinguished looking gentleman that she had the pleasure of working with.
"Now Kim... what have I said about that Admiral stuff?"
"You're right... Al."
"That's better. Come on, Rod and the kids are waiting for you to get home."
"They never knew did they Al?" Kim asked as she touched a few buttons on the handlink that opened the door leading to the imaging chamber.
"Naw kid, they never knew. And they won't hear it from me."
"Thanks Al. Hey Al, have you ever met Rod's parents?"
"No, I don't think I have."
"Why don't you come over to the house? We'll have dinner, and I'd love for you to meet them. Besides, you know Jen, Gary and Bill love listening to your stories."
"Sure kid, sure," Al replied as they stepped into the imaging chamber, and back to the future.
The End.
*****
Groaning in her sleep, she reached out, her hand automatically seeking the warmth of her heart's mate.
And as she began to drift back towards consciousness, she frowned as her hand continued to slide across the sheets unhindered.
There were some reasons why this would happen.
A trip for water perhaps?
But there were other reasons:
Ones she herself had caused.
Those reasons made her shiver as she recalled them. She believed that her friends thought they knew how she had felt, but they couldn't.
It wasn't possible.
She wasn't sure herself how she had managed to live...
If that's what you would call those desolate days and weeks she had spent alone fighting her addiction.
Only she knew that she was simply going through the motions.
Sleepwalking through the landscape that was her existence.
But, that had changed.
It wasn't easy.
Things never were, especially living in Sunnydale.
As her eyes blinked open, she realized that there was something ...easy.
Easier than taking a breath...
After all, she rationalized breathing could be controlled, changed, forced, stopped.
But the one thing that she was certain of was this:
Loving her was easy.
She smirked as she sat up in bed.
'She's not easy easy,' she thought to herself.
She sat in bed for a few minutes, before cocking her head to the left.
She thought she could hear:
‘Music? At,' she glanced at the clock. "Three o'clock in the morning?" she wondered out loud.
Pushing the blankets to the side, Willow got out of bed and grabbing her robe, wandered out of their bedroom.
She could hear the faint notes coming from the living room. When she reached the entrance she gasped.
She stared in awe as the pale moonlight streamed in through the windows, caressing the flawless skin. The shoulders moving slightly, punctuating certain notes and the hands, the ones that had brought her to the heights of ecstasy many times, slid gracefully across the keys.
They no longer lived with Buffy and the piano had been a recent addition.
She had heard the piece, Moonlight Sonata more times than she could count, yet she had never been struck by the simple majesty of watching the other half of her soul play it with such passion. The beauty of it left her aching and breathless.
She watched as her loves' head dipped and swayed in time with the music.
She dared not take a step closer, suddenly terrified of breaking the spell that kept her captive. She could tell that the piece was coming to an end and she didn't want it to stop.
Deep sadness made its way to the surface, evidenced by the tears that flowed down her face unheeded, and the passion that took her to heights unknown before.
"Don't cry Willow," she heard as the music faded.
"Please... don't stop," she answered, her voice thick with emotion.
Once again the haunting melody filled the room.
"Come sit with me."
Forcing her feet to uproot themselves, Willow made her way across the cool hardwood floor.
"It's so beautiful," she whispered. She could not stop the gasp, as a smile graced her love's, her Tara's face.
"Not as beautiful as you are," Tara replied honestly, turning to look at Willow, losing herself in the green eyes that echoed the love she felt.
"You were gone," Willow said quietly, as she watched Tara's hands moved across the keys.
"Only for a little while," she answered as she continued to play. "But, I'll always come back Willow."
The redhead looked up.
"Always?"
They had had this conversation in one form or another in the past. And no matter what was being said, they both knew what the other meant.
"Always."
Willow smiled as Tara once again soothed her battered soul in a way no one else could, or ever would.
"Let's go to sleep," Tara said as she finished the piece.
Taking Willow's hand in hers, they stepped away from the piano bench and walked back across the living room and towards their bedroom.
Shutting the door behind them, Tara led Willow to the bed, slowly pulling loose the belt closing the robe, her gaze solely focused on Willow's face. Sliding the robe off Willow's shoulders, Tara placed it on the foot of the bed. She watched as Willow got into bed, pulling the covers up.
Unable to resist her heart's demand Tara bent down and gently brushed Willow's lips with hers. She smiled as a faint blush covered Willow's features.
She walked around the edge of the bed, feeling Willow's gaze following her every step. After placing her robe next to Willow's, Tara slipped underneath the sheets.
"Better?" she asked as she scooted next to Willow and positioned herself in the crook of Willow's neck.
"Mmm... much."
"Try to get some sleep," Tara whispered as she leaned up and placed a kiss on Willow's cheek. She slid her arm around Willow's waist and closed her eyes.
"I love you Tara," Willow said as she kissed her temple.
"Never doubt that I love you too sweetheart."
Willow sighed contentedly.
And as her hand gently stroked Tara's arm, she smiled as the warmth she had sought out earlier, now surrounded her.
Warming the coldest places of her being.
Letting go of the fear that she wasn’t good enough for Tara, she slowly slipped back into slumber's embrace with the sound of Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata echoing in her mind.
And Tara's love in her heart.
The End.
**********
Walking in a slight daze, Willow made her way back to her dorm room. She had just left Tara after inviting her to her first Scooby meeting. Willow was hoping that the gesture would bring her and the blonde closer together.
Not that there was any real need to, no, it was rather she felt that she should.
And these thoughts and feelings were confusing. As she reached her room, Willow gnawed on her bottom lip. She needed to do something. Grabbing her laptop, she opened her journal and began to type.
I'm not sure if I should feel the way I do.
I've never felt this way before, which confuses me.
I loved him, didn't I?
It had to be love.
But if it was?
What am I feeling now?
What is this pull I sense each time we get together?
Why is it that I can see your face in my dreams?
Why do I seem to focus on your mouth, watching your lips as they hold me captive?
Leaving me hoping that I've heard some of what you've just said when I see that slightly confused or concerned look on your face if I haven't answered you.
The slight touches.
The ones I hope you don't know about, otherwise, how could I explain the overwhelming need for contact- no matter how brief?
When we touch- on purpose…
Do you hear my heart?
You must be able to.
I can hear it roaring in my ears.
Do you know what I'm feeling?
Can you tell me?
Or are you waiting for me to make up my mind.
You are waiting, aren't you?
You have to be waiting.
Now I wonder- what am I waiting for.
What bolt of lightening has to strike for me to realize what I feel for you?
When deep down, I've known. And I will make the journey to reach you.
The climb will have been worth it.
It will always be worth any trial.
Any trick.
Why?
I smile as the answer stares me in the face, as bright as the sun.
You.
Are worth anything.
And everything.
"And I think it's about time I tell you," Willow told herself as she closed the entry and thought about Tara, smiling all the while. 'After the meeting,' she thought as she nodded.:heart
SPOILERS: Hush.
Author's Note: Nah, that would just spoil the story.
Angst Warning: Could be.
THANKS: To Xita, for the beta.
As Roy Croft once wrote:
I love you,
Not only for what you are,
But for what I am,
When I am with you.
**********
It didn't take long for me to notice her.
I mean, she reminded me of me before I realized that Hollywood didn't know everything about monsters.
I could tell that she wanted to speak up, say something. I think it was because of what I had started to bring up during the meeting.
You know, how we might actually practice some spells... do some casting, you know, witchy-type things, after all, this was a Wicca group I had joined. I wanted a chance to improve my abilities, as my spells had the knack of going awry.
I heard someone; I can't remember who it was now, say her name:
Willow.
I liked it right away, it was different. I mean how many times can you say that you've met a Willow before.
Not very many.
So... Willow looked as if she was going to agree with what I had said. But, when the entire groups' attention focused on her... oh, it was sad. She got nervous; I know I would have been a few years ago, and she started to stutter.
I felt bad for her.
All I wanted to do was go over to her and tell her it was alright and how I completely understood how she was feeling at the moment, and perhaps we could get together and practice sometime.
I wanted to do all that, but I didn't.
No, I left the meeting and caught up with my best friend, Buffy.
And yes, that's her name.
I told her all about the 'blessed wanna-bes'. I didn't mention Willow at all, makes me wonder why.
Perhaps... no, I'm jumping ahead of myself.
Now, where was I...
Okay, I had told Buffy about the meeting... then things got really interesting for us the following morning...
But, that's another story, for a different time.
As I've said before, it didn't take me long to notice Willow, and I can truly say with all my heart; after all these years, that I am so very grateful that she sought me out that night.
It was the beginning of something very powerful between us. Something very real and difficult at the same time.
We're not perfect, not by a long shot, and most of that was my fault. You see, I didn't know how to react to my feelings for Willow, not at first. I knew I felt something for her, but what?, that was the sixty-four thousand dollar question.
Plus, I had hidden my friendship with her from my other friends.
It put a slight strain on our... relationship.
Very shortly dear reader, you will read a testimony you might say, of our relationship, and everything we went through to get to where we are now.
And, I know without a single doubt that Willow Rosenberg is a gift...
A gift I almost didn't accept...
A gift that was freely given to me...
One, I am so happy to say, that I finally opened my eyes long enough to see in front of me.
I would love to go on and on, but my eyes are growing weary, it happens from time to time, and my new glasses can only help so much. So, with these last few words before I close for the night, I want to give my thanks...
To...
"The Gentlemen."
I'm not sure if my life would have turned out the way it did without them.
And especially...
To Willow...
"Who can say why love has brought us here, who can say where love will lead? It's enough to know that love will show the way. And the Vow we take to love, in both our fullness and our need, Will be ever living as it is today."
"Wedding Song"
Illusions and Dreams
Tara.
**********
"Are you coming to bed?"
"Yes," Tara replied as she pushed herself away from the desk after closing her laptop and putting her glasses away.
"When do I get to read this history' of ours? Willow asked as Tara slipped into bed next to her.
"Tomorrow if you'd like. I made a slight change to the introduction."
"Good. Now, I know I've asked this before, but are you sure you want to go through with this?"
"I'm sure."
"Alright. Do you think people will believe it?"
"I don't know. I think some will, others will just think it's some off-the-wall book I've written and take no notice of it," Tara replied, snuggling closer to her 'Wicca Girl. Oops, better make that Wicca Woman,' she thought to herself.
"You'd better make that woman'," Willow said, playfully jabbing Tara.
They had long ago discovered that they could sometimes pick-up each others thoughts.
"Yes dear."
Willow turned around so that they were facing one another and reached out and stroked Tara's face, marveling as she did each time, just how wonderful it was to be able to do this. She leaned forward and kissed Tara, feeling the connection re-assert itself.
There had been only a handful of times, that their bond had manifested itself. Never as intense as the first time, but always powerful.
"Is the door locked?" she whispered, as she nibbled down Tara's neck.
"Locked?"
"Ummhmm... is... it... locked?" Punctuating each word with a kiss that found its way to Tara's soul.
CLICK
"It is now," Tara replied, refocusing her thoughts on Willow's mouth and what it was doing to her.
"Good," Willow said.
"Ve... ve... very goo... good," Tara stammered.
With a quick flick of her hand, Willow caused the lights to turn off. Having powers did have its advantages from time to time.
And she planned on using them...
Right now.
"Oh... Will."
The End.
