PART 1/2
The warm spring breeze blew through the redhead’s hair as she listened to her best friend talk about the annoying Trio. While she was worried about what they might be up to, she was too happy to even see straight, because she was holding the hand of a beautiful blonde girl who was, at that moment, smiling at her suggestively. She felt her knees go weak as she thought of what it could be that was running through the blonde’s head, and she licked her lips in anticipation.
Tara squeezed her girlfriend’s hand, and mouthed the word “later.” She winked, and Willow shivered involuntarily. “Cold, honey?” Tara asked sweetly.
Willow glared at her, “Far from it, actually,” she said quickly.
Buffy looked over at the two of them and smiled. She was happy the two of them were back together. “Guys, stop with the bedroom eyes...I think I heard something.”
With that, seven vampires and a very menacing looking demon came through the hedge and attacked the three girls. Three of the vamps and the demon pulled Buffy away, and the other four split to pull apart Willow and Tara. They were separating them.
“Willow!” Tara cried. She couldn’t see the redhead. She herd her lover scream, and she quickly took the two vials of holy water from her jacket pocket. She opened them and threw them into the two vampires’ eyes. She took her stake, and with the vampires blinded, she was able to dust them both fairly easily. “Willow, I’m coming! Hold on!” She ran towards the redhead’s last yell of terror, and then she saw it. The two vampires who held her love. One who had her teeth sunk deep in her neck. Willow’s eyes pierced Tara’s over the second vampire’s shoulder who was facing the redhead. Tara ran towards him, and staked him from behind. The female who had been feasting looked up at the disturbance and her eyes bulged when she was showered with holy water and a quick stake was sent through her heart.
Willow collapsed and Tara caught her, the two sinking to the ground. Willow smiled at Tara, then said, “This is always where I wanted to die–well, not in a graveyard, but in your arms.”
Tara cut her off, “Don’t you say that, Willow! You’re NOT going to die, do you hear me? Willow!”
“Tara,” Willow smiled sadly, “You know I’ve lost too much blood...I thought we’d have more than just these few years together, I mean, I just found you again...but this is what we were given. I wanted to have those two little girls we planned with you, baby...” Willow broke off, starting to cry, but then she pulled herself together again. “I’m sorry, Tare, but I’m not leaving you. You know I’m always with you...no matter where I am physically. I love you, baby.” She brushed a strand of Tara’s hair back behind her ear, before her hand fell back down.
“No. Willow, don’t you do this to me!” Tara sobbed, “I love you, Willow Rosenberg. Don’t you dare think of leaving me! I need you!” She held Willow tightly to her.
Willow was crying again. “I’m sorry, baby...I love you...” Her eyes rolled back into her head, the lids closing over them, and she fell limp in Tara’s arms.
“No, Willow...” Tara whispered, then more desperately, “Willow! No, Willow, baby...please no...please...I love you.”
Buffy appeared, running towards Tara. “Finally, geez...they were pretty brutal, don’t you think?”
Tara looked up, the tears streaming down her cheeks.
“Tara?” Buffy asked, then saw Willow in her arms, the blood dripping down her neck. “No...” she whispered hoarsely. “No...not Willow.” She ran over, quickly checking for a pulse, and on not finding one, she yelled, “No!”
Tara looked up at her, fury evident in her eyes. “Yes, Buffy! What do you think it means? She’s dead,” her voice cracked over the words, “and where were you when the vampire was sucking the life out of her? Where? Where were you when she told me that she had lost too much blood, or when she breathed her last breath?”
Buffy looked at the blonde witch defensively. “What do you mean where was I? I was doing my job!”
Tara scoffed, “Oh?” She looked down at Willow and then back up at Buffy. “This is your job? Letting your best friend die? To a vampire? I thought you were the vampire slayer! Maybe I was wrong...” Tara looked down and leaned over to kiss the redhead’s pale lips. She pushed a few stray red hairs behind Willow’s ears.
Buffy was left dumbfounded by Tara’s words.
“Oh, baby, it’s all my fault,” Tara started. “I’m so sorry...I should have been faster. I shouldn’t have made you promise that...Goddess, why did I do that?”
Buffy just stared down at Tara thoughtfully.
“It’s all my fault Buffy. If only I hadn’t made her promise not to use magick. She could have gotten rid of them at any time. But she didn’t...and it’s because of me.” Tara sobbed, still holding Willow tight.
“You’re right, Tara. It’ is all your fault.” Buffy replied evenly.
Tara couldn’t believe that Buffy would agree with her on it, even though Tara believed it was true. “What?” She whispered, in shock.
“You heard me. It’s all your fault, if you hadn’t forced Willow to quit using magick before you’d get back together, then this wouldn’t have happened.”
