“She’s late, she’s never late.”

Tara didn’t understand why Xander was so nervous, okay so maybe she did. She had butterflies in her stomach and this time Willow wasn’t the cause. Okay so maybe it wasn’t just because of the surprise they had arranged.

‘God, what was I thinking, she doesn’t even like surprises. Okay this is Will, the girl of your dreams, you can’t disappoint her she loves you to much.’

It was true Willow loved her so much and well the blonde was smitten as well. Hell who was she kidding she was head over heals in love. It still surprised her sometimes that she could feel so much for one person. With all her previous girlfriends, okay there was just Tracy, she didn’t even feel a hundredth of what she experienced when she was with her Willow or just thinking about her.

‘Fantasising, you mean Tare’ She blushed from head to toe, she had gotten more confident but she was still what you consider shy. But she just couldn’t stop the sexy thoughts, the redhead made her so…

‘Horny’, she thought with another blush. ‘It’s not like it’s my fault, she’s just so beautiful and sexy. And she even makes an old pair of torn jeans look hot.’

Tara still remembered how she had reacted when she had met Willow for the first time. She had been extremely nervous to meet the Willow. The one who had practically raised her two brothers alone and who was the best friend you could ever have, according to Xander anyway.
So she had been panicky and when Tara gets like that she starts to stutter and make an embarrassing fool out of herself. And when that happens she gets more anxious until she’s a blubbering mess and she has to leave.
So she had just done that. She had been stunned by Willow’s beauty (nobody ever told her that she was so beautiful, stupid Xander) and when she introduced herself, because Xander had just left for the men’s room, Tara had stuttered out her own name and then to make matters worse she had spilt her coffee on the redheads shirt.

‘Thank God the coffee was cold.’ It would have been ten times worse if she had given Willow third degree burns on her chest.

‘Ah, her beautiful chest, with those perky breasts. I could just touch them all day… Focus girl, no need to get you all hot and bothered in the same room as all your friends and your mom, don’t forget your mom.’

Anyway the blonde had been horrified, she could barely stutter out an excuse before she took off leaving a stunned Willow wondering who the flustered and incredibly hot blonde was.

No, meeting new people was never easy for her, never had been. Although it had improved after they had moved to Sunnydale. In LA she only was friends with Buffy and Fred, they were also the ones who she came out to first and who supported her when she was getting bullied at school. She had been so relieved when her mom had suggested moving to the little town together with Joyce, Buffy and Dawn. Her mom and Joyce had met when they both dropped their daughters of at the first day of kinder garden, they hit it off from the start. When Joyce got divorced from Hank they had grown closer, after all her mom understood what being a single mother entailed so Joyce found support with her. She was one herself ever since her husband had left her when Tara was three years old.
Apparently someone had given Joyce an offer she couldn’t resist and she was basically going to be able run her own gallery if they moved. So they packed and left.
Of course she and Buffy had been sad to leave Fred all alone in LA but they had promised to call and write, well in her case anyway Buffy never really was good at putting things on paper. The tiny blonde believed that a letter couldn’t compare with a phone call, Tara didn’t agree with her though, she thought letters had a special charm or maybe that was just her romantic side speaking.

When she finally had been able to leave her embarrassment behind (it took her five days) she met with the redhead again, this time without Xander. Her face had been as red as a tomato while she tried to apologise for being such a klutz, but the other girl had been sweet and charming and waved the coffee incident off. That was how she had called it: the coffee incident. It had made Tara blush and smile.
After that they had hit it off immediately and started talking about every subject they could find: school, Willow’s brothers and so many other things that they had lost track of time. Tara had found it easy to talk to her and she soon lost her stutter, well almost. But what would you do if you were talking to the hottest girl you ever met? Exactly.

After that they started to meet each other regularly. First weekly then almost daily. And then one day Willow asked her out on a date, okay so she had babbled for ten minutes until she started to look blue from the lack of oxygen. After Tara had calmed Willow down enough, which took another ten minutes, the other girl shyly asked her out. Of course she accepted and they both stood there staring at each other (another ten minutes) with big goofy grins on their faces.

For the date they went to a nice cosy restaurant. It was tense at first until they both started to relax and have a good time, and they did. After their first date a lot of others followed and now they were here six months later, waiting for Willow to come home.

“I heard a bang, I heard a bang. Did you hear that?” An overexcited Dawn asked.
“Yes Dawn, we heard that.” Buffy rolled her eyes at her younger sister.
“Everyone in position?” They all nodded except for Anya who seemed bored.

Tara strained her ears to hear: there it was the sound of a key sliding in the front door, then footsteps towards the living room until…

“Happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you, dear Willow, happy birthday to you.”

The redhead seemed shocked to see so many people standing in her living room and stood rooted to the spot. And after their horrible rendition of happy birthday they all started to hug her. First Dawn, then Buffy, Xander, Spike, Angel, Faith, Fred who had come all the way from LA, Joyce and finally her mom. Until she was the only one who hadn’t congratulated her Willow. (Anya didn’t bother), She walked the five steps up to her girlfriend and hugged her. It only took three seconds for the smaller girl to wrap her own arms around the blonde, tightly. “Happy birthday” Tara whispered into her neck.

Willow wasn’t her dream girl anymore, she was real now. Well sometimes she was the girl in her fantasies but that was a whole different matter.
