Hey, I hope you all like this one.

DESERT HEAT
Chapter 1

Fire was burning half way down the match stick as a young redhead sat there holding the end of it with her fingers. She watched the flame come mere centimeters from her nails then grabbed the burnt end with her fingers on her left hand and watched the fire finish off the wood and fizzle out.
She pulled another one out of the box that was sitting on the bar and lit it.

“Your gonna burn yourself.” A woman’s voice said above the background music playing through the small room.
“No I’m not.” The redhead replied in a concentrated voice watching the fire reach a quarter of a way down the stick. She heard footsteps approach and saw blonde hair come into her peripheral vision. She looked away from the burning match at the woman standing there staring at the flame in her hand. Her mouth dropped open at the beauty that was standing beside her.

“OUCH!” The redhead shouted out as she quickly let go of the match and it fell perfectly into the ashtray sitting in front of her. She blew air on her fingers and waved them in the air trying to cool the tiny rising blisters.
The blonde sat down on a stool. “Told ya.” She smirked.
“Yeah well, I was distracted and you broke my world record. I was trying to find out how many matches I could burn from one end to the other without getting burned. Now I have to start all over again.” The redhead sighed and rattled the box of matches that was on the bar.
“What number were you up to?” The blonde asked looking at the small growing pile of burned sticks in the ash tray.
“Fifteen. I know it isn’t much but it was a good start.”
“Tara Maclay.” The blonde said.

The redhead looked down at the offered hand that was extended out. She took it carefully into hers. “Willow Rosenberg, pleasure.” She gave a smile then picked up her box of matches and put them into her pocket.

“So is that all there is to do around here is burn matches and then yourself or is there something less entertaining?” Tara asked sarcastically.
“Oh there’s plenty to do around here. Today we’re having a lizard pitching contest.” Replied in her own sardonic manner.
Tara’s brows crinkled. “Poor lizards. Do you eat them afterwards?”

Willow whipped her head around; her shoulder length hair flying behind her. “Who are you?”
“Tara Maclay. I thought we already went through the intros?”
“Well Tara Maclay, we might not be a huge town and there might not be much in the way of entertainment around here but we get by!” Willow’s anger was rising.
“As for example pitching lizards?” Tara asked loving the reaction coming from the cute redhead.

“Is there something I can get you?” A man behind the bar approached the two women.
“Ice water please.” Tara requested.
“Beer.” Willow told him.
The man nodded and turned away.
“Kinda early to be drinking.” Tara stated.
“What are you my mother?!” Willow snapped.
“No, I was just stating a fact.” The blonde said in a low tone.
“Well, miss full of facts, I’ll have you know that it’s hot outside and if I want to have a beer at three in the afternoon it’s really none of your business and plus it wasn’t a fact it was your own opinion.”

“Tara Maclay.” Tara held out her hand again.
“Huh?” Willow looked at the woman with total confusion.
“Look, I’m sorry if I’ve offended you. Let’s start over. My name is Tara Maclay.”
Willow sighed. “Willow Rosenberg, nice to meet you.” Willow shook Tara’s hand again. “What brings you out here to Arizona?”
“I’m moving to California.” Tara said happy that the tension between her and the redhead was breaking. “And thought I’d drive my way through.”
“Where are you originally from?” Willow asked now having an interest in the annoying blonde.
“Alabama.” Tara said.

The bartender placed Tara’s water down and Willow’s beer down and walked away.
“That’s a good distance.” Willow imputed. “What’s in California?”
“My friend and her sister live out there. They need some help since their mom is sick.”
“Must be a special friend?” Willow asked raising her brow.
“Special?” Tara asked looking at the expression on the redhead’s face. “Oh! No not that kind of friend. Just a friend.”

“So why didn’t you just fly out there? I mean it’s a long drive and it seems like your friend needs your help so I was thinking that the air would be faster than the road.” Willow babbled taking a long drink from her glass.
“I couldn’t leave my baby in Alabama.” Tara said pointing outside.

Willow spewed her beer in the floor. “BABY?!” She wiped her mouth with her hand. “You have a baby outside in this heat?! Are you insane?!” The redhead jumped up from the stool and rushed out the door.
“Willow!” Tara called out as she ran outside.

The redhead stood outside looking from left to right. Tara rushed out the door and ran right into her.
Willow straightened herself up. “Where?”
“What?” Tara asked.
“Where’s the baby?” Willow walked forward still scanning around.
“Right here.”

Willow turned and looked. There she saw Tara in a new light.
The blonde angel was standing there with her arms crossed and her body leaned back on a cherry red ’65 Mustang convertible.

Willow saw the tan skin of the long legs going all the way up to the cut off shorts and the flannel shirt that used to be long sleeved was tied at the waist and beautiful golden blonde locks that flowed down to the top part of Tara’s arms.
“Oh my God!” Willow whispered looking at the blonde. She shook her head as she approached Tara. “Do you know what this is?” She pointed at the car.
“A 1965 GT350 Ford Mustang convertible?” Tara asked as she smiled.
“A 1965 GT350 Ford Mustang convertible!” Willow said not even listening to the other woman.
“Wow! You’re good. I never would have guessed.” Tara said and giggled.

The fascinated redhead walked around the car taking in every detail. “Oh, can I look under your hood, please?”
Tara smiled even bigger looking down at her chest. “Why I barely know you? Is this how you greet all the new comers to this town?”
Willow rolled her eyes.

Tara walked over and leaned over against the driver’s side door.
The redhead’s eyes widened when she saw the blonde’s rear and the shorts stretched over the fine curves. Her breath hitched.
Tara looked back and smiled. “Ooo. Uhhh.” She moaned out noticing Willow’s chest rise up and down. “I almost…oh YES!”

Willow’s legs were going weak. She heard a faint sound of a pop. She watched Tara walk around and pull the hood up.
“There ya go. Have a look.”
Willow walked over to the car and poked her head as close to the engine as possible. “Mexican 302 block, scat cast steel stroker 347 crank, Crower Sportsman rods, Wiseco custom pistons, Techcraft/Elgin solid cam, Competition Cams solid lifters, Edelbrock Performer RPM heads, Com Cams aluminum roller rocker arms and Magnum push-rods, Comp Cams dual valve springs w/ dampers, Edelbrock Performer RPM intake, Holley 650DP carburetor, Fel-Pro gaskets, ARP bolts and studs, BHJ harmonic balancer.” She took in a deep breath. “Wow!”
“Apparently you know about engines.” Tara said impressed.
Willow smiled at the blonde. “My dad was a mechanic and so is my brother. I picked up things here and there.”
“Wanna go for a ride?” Tara asked pulling her keys from her pocket and dangling them.
“Oh I couldn’t.” Willow put her hands in her pocket.
“Come on. I know you want to.” Tara dangled the keys again.
Willow smiled and her eyes twinkled like tree lights. “O.K.” She bounced on her toes.
Tara let down the hood. “Let’s go.”

Willow ran to the passenger side and jumped over the door and perfectly plopped down in the seat. “I’ve always wanted to do that!” She shouted out.
Tara laughed and slipped into the seat. Starting the car, she revved up the engine. Throwing the gear into drive, Willow laughed as Tara peeled out and left a huge bowl of dust behind them.

Driving down the road Willow held her arm out moving it up and down against the forcible wind. “This is great.”
“You know what would be even greater?” Tara asked looking over at the redhead.
“What?”
“Stand up.” Tara told her.
Hesitantly Willow stood up grabbing onto the top of the windshield.

She had never felt so wonderful. The wind whipped through her hair and she saw the desert mountains in a glorious new way.
“HOLD ON!” Tara shouted.
Willow held on as tight as she could. Her body shifted quickly when Tara did a complete ‘U’ turn in the middle of the road.
Willow screamed with delight. “YEAH BABY!”
Tara laughed and pressed harder on the accelerator. “WOOO HOOO!” She yelled.
Willow was delirious with laugher. She plopped down into the seat. “Oh my God! That was so wild. I mean wild, wild. The wildest thing I have ever done in my non-wild life.”
Tara pulled in front of the bar. “I’m glad you liked it.
“Liked it?! I loved it!” Willow grabbed Tara and pulled her into a hug. “Thank you.” She whispered.
Tara patted the redhead on the back in a gentle motion. “You’re more than welcome.” She whispered back. The fragrance of the red hair that was against her cheek was of wild strawberries and desert wind.
Both women pulled back and smiled at one another.
“Well, I better let you get going on your trip.” Willow smiled but she was disappointed to see the gorgeous blonde leave.

Tara grinned. “I was hoping that I could find a motel I could camp out for the night. It’ll be dark soon and I don’t want to be stuck out somewhere where there is no life except for the lizards that have seemed to escape the flinging.”
Willow immediately lightened up. “Oh, I can help you. Just drive across the street.” She pointed at a one level motel building. “I try and keep it decent and up to date.”
“You own it?” Tara asked as she pulled up to the front door.
“Have for five years now. C’mon, let’s get you settled in.” Willow got out of the car and into the front office.

The blast of cold air sent chills up Tara’s sweat coated skin. “This feels good.” She sighed as she pulled out a bandanna from her back pocket and wiped the moisture off the back of her neck.
“And every room has an air conditioner in it too. Clean towels, clean sheets, and you can use the washer and dryer in the laundry room at the end of the walk way.” Willow pulled out a guest book and laid it down on the counter. “Sign here.” She pointed out a line.

Tara looked and noticed that this was the first page and her name would be the third on the list. The last entry was dated two years prior. “You don’t get many people out here do ya?”
“Not so much.” Willow filled out a paper and handed it over to the blonde. “That’ll be twenty-five dollars.”
“Man that’s uh, kinda cheap for one night.” Tara commented as she reached into her back pocket for her wallet.
“It doesn’t cost much to keep this place up.” Willow said as she reached behind her and grabbed a key off a hook. “This way ma’am.” Willow led her out the door.

She opened up the room next to the office.
Tara was taken back. The room was what you could call for a small town motel, elegant. Set in the middle of the room was a contemporary four poster mahogany bed and beside it was a nightstand of the same design and the matching dresser was against the wall. “This is beautiful.” Tara took off her shoes as she walked on the off white plush carpet.

“And this is the bathroom.” Willow stepped turned on the light and stepped aside.
A huge garden tub was the first thing Tara saw. She walked in and stood in front of a long vanity sink with a mirror to stretch the length. A shower was over in the corner and beside it was the commode. “Willow, this is fabulous.”
“I designed every room myself.” Willow beamed.
Tara looked around the bathroom and the main room again. Her eyes scanned up and down the beautiful redhead. “Talented.” She said in a seductive tone.
Willow felt a wave rush through her. “Thanks.” She squeaked out then cleared her throat. “Thank you.”

“HEY WILL!” A male voice shouted out.
Willow rolled her eyes and peered out of the door. “In here!”
“Did you check out that fine c-c-c…Holy mother of God!” A dark headed man stopped in his tracks when he laid eyes on Tara.
“Yes I did. Meet the owner of that fine car Tara Maclay. Tara this is my brother Xander Harris.” Willow made the introductions.
“Hi.” He said wiping his hands on his pants and holding his hand out.
Tara took his hand. “Nice to meet you Xander.”
“She’s a beauty.” He commented looking at Willow.
“Excuse me?” Tara asked not surely understanding where his compliment was being thrown.
“Your car. She’s beautiful. What’s her name?”
“Oh c’mon Xander. Not everyone names their cars.” Willow said crossing her arms over her chest.
“Rose.” Tara said smiling. “Her name is Rose.”
“Pretty name.” Xander told her. He kept on trying to look into Tara’s eyes but she looked everywhere else.
Avoiding the man’s gaze, Tara looked at Willow. “I named her after my mom.”

Willow stared into Tara’s eyes. Time seemed as if it had stopped. The blue was the color of the ocean with swirls of fine mist.
Tara felt like the emerald green of Willow’s eyes were enveloping her in a heavenly field that she could get lost in.

Xander noticed in the short time, how the women were staring at one another. He cleared his throat. “Tara?” He spoke. “Would you accompany me to the bar this evening for drinks? They are having a karaoke competition. Its fun and I promise you’ll have a good time.”
Tara’s concentration was broken. “I’m sorry, what?”
“I asked if you wanted to go to the bar for some drinks tonight. They have a karaoke thing going on. Would you?” Xander asked again.
Willow smacked him in the stomach. “No doofus. She just got here and I’m sure she wants to get some rest.”
“Actually, I would love to go. Thank you.” Tara told him and smiled.
“Great!” He exclaimed. “I’ll pick you up at seven.” He smiled and walked out the door.
Willow blushed. “Sorry I just assumed that you would want to rest.”
“Oh that’s O.K. It does sound like fun. Will you be there?”
Willow shook her head. “I’ll be here working, but you’ll have a great time with Xander.”
“Speaking of him, I thought you said he was your brother?” Tara inquired.
“Oh he is. The last name kinda threw ya huh? He was taken away from his parents when he was younger and since I grew up with him, my parents adopted him seeing that I cut a fit not wanting him to go to a foster home or anything like that cause sometimes those places can be horrible and I couldn’t see my best friend slash brother go through that. He kept his last name though which is totally fine. Who would want a last name like Rosenberg anyway?” Willow took in a deep breath.
“Oh my God! Are you…how did you do that?” Tara asked totally taken off guard.
“Yeah I uh babble a lot.” Willow looked down at her feet.
“It’s cute, and I like the name Rosenberg.” Tara commented seeing the redhead lift up her head and smile.
“Thanks. Well, I’ll let you get some rest before your big date with my brother.” Willow giggled and waved as she walked out of the room and closed the door.

Tara sat down on the bed. “I’d rather go out on a date with you.” She said to an empty room.

I liked the start of this.

The use of Tara reintroducing herself - as a way of 'starting over' - was very cute and a nice character trait development. Willow's angry outburst seemed rather sudden, but if it is going to be a character trait as well, then it is fine.

I liked that they both knew alot about cars - and that Willow just said out loud what the car was (and ignored Tara) - was very funny and a nice character reveal (as well as being very Willow-esque).

I thought that Xander being Willow's brother was a nice touch - and tossing in the bit about being taken out of a bad home environment was nice homage to the show.

I am interested to find out how this will work out for the T/W relationship, since Tara is 'moving' to CA to help her friend (I assume Buffy). And, curious to know what songs they will karaoke to. . . and if Willow will show up after all.

Nice job, and I hope you continue.

Thanks Boadecia, cantbefredless, KrisBo5, tarebear (ces), and Dianneswillowtree for your reviews and support. Being new on the kitten board I didn't know if I would get as many reviews here as I have on other sites and I appreciate it. Here is the next chapter. I hope you enjoy it as well!

DESERT HEAT
Chapter 2
Both In the Arms of the Angel and Rainbow Connection are sung by Sara McLachlan.

A knock came on the room. Tara opened it with a smile as bright as the sun.
“Now that’s the kinda look only a visitor would give me. How ya doin’ Tara?” Xander said as he handed the blonde a bundle of daises.
“I’m fine.” She smelled the small bouquet. “Thank you.”
“No problem. So shall I escort you to yon tavern for a night of singing, drinking and merriment?” He said as he extended his arm out.
“Escort away dear sir.” Tara giggled as Xander led her away from her room.
Unknown to them, Willow watched from the office window. She pouted and returned to work on her computer.

Entering the bar, men around whistled and cheered as Xander proudly paraded inside with Tara holding onto his arm.
“Hey Xan, where did you find this beauty.” A tall blonde man asked.
“Over at the motel but sorry Fred they’re all out.” Xander smiled and walked Tara over to a table in the far corner.
“What would you like to drink my lady?” He pulled out a chair and Tara happily took the seat.
“I think I’ll have a martini.” Tara told him.
“Um, is beer O.K.? They have whisky but they’re not big on the mixed drinks unless you want to mix the liquor and beer. I wouldn’t advise it though. You might end up tied to the welcome sign on the outskirts of town.”
“You tried it huh?” Tara asked smirking.
“I’ll never tell.” Xander walked over to the bartender to get their drinks.

Music started playing and a couple of men got up and sang their own version of ‘There’s a Tear in My Beer’ by Hank Williams.
Tara rolled her eyes and held her head up with her hands. Her father more or less tortured her and her brother with bluegrass music when they were kids.
“Not too much for the music around here either, are ya?”
Tara looked up into familiar eyes. “Hey!” She said excitedly and stood up. “I thought you were working?”
“Uh yeah, funny story with that. I was sitting over there in my office and working then I saw you and Xander leave and I didn’t want you to get the wrong impression that I was ignoring you or anything like that because I’m not and I thought it would be fun to come over and relax a bit.” Willow babbled out and grinned.
Tara smiled. “I’m happy you did. Here!” Tara moved over and offered her chair to the other woman.
“Thanks, so where’s your date?” Willow asked.
“Right here!” Xander said putting the drinks on the table. “Thought you were staying in, little sis?”
“No way, when I know how you are with the ladies. Did you honestly think that I would let this beauty out alone with you? Not likely bro.” Willow giggled.
Xander put his hand on his chest. “I am a perfect gentleman.”
“As if! Gentleman maybe, but the perfect part, not even. And I’m not even certain about the gentleman part.”
“And do you think you are better with the ladies than I am?” Xander challenged.
“Darn tootin’.” Willow smiled and took a drink from his glass.

Xander took a seat across the table from the redhead. “Wanna put your money where your mouth is little one?” He propped his arm on the table.
“You loose every time Xan. Don’t embarrass yourself.” Willow smirked. She looked over at Tara and winked.
Tara grinned and winked back.
“I’ve been working out ya know.” Xander wiggled his fingers. “Let’s see what you got.”
Willow sighed. “Tara, if I win will you dance with me?”
“Um well, I suppose.” Tara answered totally confused.
Willow plopped her arm on the table and put her hand in Xander’s.
“IT’S ON!” A man stood up from the bar and pointed at Willow’s table.
“Now see what you’ve done.” Willow told her brother.
“They’re gonna see me win and then I’ll get to dance with Tara.” He smiled and wrapped his fingers over Willow’s. “Ready?”
Willow nodded.
“Go!” Both of them shouted at the same time.
Xander pushed with all his strength and Willow pushed with all hers.
“Give it up Xan.” Willow said through gritted teeth.
“Not a chance.” He replied back. His arm moved forward.
Willow clenched her jaw and moved as hard as she could against his.
Xander’s eyes lit up when he realized he almost had her pinned down.
Willow yelled out in frustration as she pushed and pushed but Xander’s strength was overwhelming.

Tara saw the other woman struggle. She liked Xander but she wanted to spend every moment with Willow. She leaned forward. “You win and you’ll get more than a dance.”
Willow’s eyes widened. With strength that she didn’t know she possessed she pushed with all her might and slapped Xander’s arm on the table making him fall out of his seat.
Everyone in the bar cheered. The came up and patted her on the shoulder then went about their business.

Xander peered over the table at the grinning redhead. “Getting stronger I see. Must be all the typing you do on that computer of yours.” He got up and took his seat.
Willow grinned and rolled her eyes. “Yeah, that must be it. Wouldn’t have anything to do with a certain…” She looked over at Tara, “…someone?”
Tara looked at Willow with a shocked expression. “What did I do?” She said with innocence.
“Oh nothing.” Willow leaned in to Tara’s ear. “So Miss Maclay, what little extra thing did you have in mind other than a dance?” She pulled back only to have her head pulled to where Tara’s breath was tickling her ear.
“Maybe a handshake or maybe a kiss, depends on how good you are.” Tara gave a tiny kiss on Willow’s ear causing the redhead to shiver.

“How come all the women are gay? Is it me? Do I smell bad or have horrid breath?” Xander asked looking at the interaction between the two.
Tara giggled. “You are a great guy Xander. If I was straight I would totally go for you.”
He smiled brightly. “Well, I’ll take that as a compliment. Will you still have one dance with me though? Call it a consolidation prize?”
“You bet.” Tara looked over at the beautiful redhead. “So tell me a little about yourself Willow.”
“Me? Oh nothing much. I’ve lived here all my life and I told you about Xander.” Willow answered. She really wasn’t much for talking about her life. Actually she never had anyone wanting to know about her life.
“I know there’s more to Willow Rosenberg than that.” Tara said urging the woman to go on.
“I design houses.”
“Oh that’s cool!” Tara said excitedly.
“It pays the bills.” Willow shrugged her shoulders.
“Pays the bills? Oh c’mon Will, you are a…” Xander leaned in closer. “…rich woman.”
“XANDER!” Willow slapped him on the arm.
“She gets paid twenty thousand dollars per design.” Xander smiled and leaned back in his chair to avoid another slap.
Willow blushed and picked at her finger nails.
“Wow! You must be pretty good. But if you have money then why are you here?” Tara asked.
“This is my home. I love it here.” Shifting uncomfortably in her seat she sighed but kept her head down.
“I have been trying to get her to leave this one horse town for years but she won’t budge.” Xander said reaching for his beer but Willow grabbed it up and took a long drink.
“It took me a long time to move from Alabama. For me it was really hard to leave but knowing that my friend needed me kinda gave me the initiative to get out. It’s kinda lame but sometimes you have to follow your heart. Do what makes you happy, ya know?” Tara said taking a drink from her own glass.
“Personally I wouldn’t know. The only heart following I have ever done was to buy the motel and that scared me to death thinking what if it fell under or what if I couldn’t keep it up or what if someone stayed there and they fell down and sued me or…” Willow was cut short by Xander’s hand over her mouth.
“This is the most effective way of shutting her up.” He smiled and removed his hand.
Willow pursed her lips together.

Tara giggled. “Well, I feel like singing. Wish me luck.” She rose up from the table and walked over to the stage.
“Sing?” Xander and Willow both said and looked up at the stage.

Tara walked up nervously to the bar. Normally she would never do something like this but tonight she felt like she could do anything.
She talked to the man who was operating the karaoke. He smiled and placed a CD into the machine and handed Tara the microphone.
Instrumental music started flowing out of the speakers. With her hand shaking Tara raised the microphone to her mouth.

Spend all your time waiting for that second chance
For the break that will make it ok
There's always some reason to feel not good enough
And it's hard at the end of the day
I need some distraction, oh beautiful release
Memories seep from my veins
They may be empty and weightless, and maybe
I'll find some peace tonight

Willow looked into Tara’s captivating blue eyes.

In the arms of the Angel, fly away from here
From this dark, cold hotel room, and the endlessness that you fear
You are pulled from the wreckage of your silent reverie
You're in the arms of the Angel; may you find some comfort here

Tara walked off the stage. Her heart was pounding hard as she approached the redhead.

So tired of the straight line, and everywhere you turn
There's vultures and thieves at your back
The storm keeps on twisting, you keep on building the lies
That you make up for all that you lack
It don't make no difference, escaping one last time
It's easier to believe
In this sweet madness, oh this glorious sadness
That brings me to my knees

Tears streamed down Willow’s face. Tara caressed her cheek and wiped them away with her thumb.

In the arms of the Angel, fly away from here
From this dark, cold hotel room, and the endlessness that you fear
You are pulled from the wreckage of your silent reverie
In the arms of the Angel; may you find some comfort here

Tara bent down and kissed Willow on the forehead.

You’re in the arms of the Angel; may you find some comfort here

The applause resounded throughout the building.
Willow stood up and quickly wrapped her arms around Tara’s neck. “That was beautiful.” She silently cried.
“WOOO HOO! Way to go Tara!” Xander shouted clapping his hands together followed by everyone else in the bar.
“Thank you.” Tara said holding onto Willow.
“I’ll take that ma’am.” Tara turned and saw a man holding his hand out for the microphone.
“Thanks.” Tara handed it over to him and put her arm back around the tearful redhead.

Willow pulled back and wiped her eyes. “Sorry.” She sniffed and smiled.
“Believe me I didn’t mind.” Tara grinned and helped Willow into her chair.
“Hey Willow sing your song.” Xander said propping himself on his elbows.
“No Xander.” Willow blushed and hung her head.
“You have a song?” Tara asked.
“It’s stupid.” Willow said lowly.
Tara grinned and lifted Willow’s face with her finger. “I don’t believe anything that comes from you would be stupid. I would love to hear your song. Please, for me?”
Willow sighed with contentment. This woman, whom she met just this morning, had made such a strong impact on Willow’s heart that she didn’t think that she could ever deny her anything. “O.K.”
“HEY GUYS! WILLOW’S GONNA SING!” Xander shouted out causing the entire crowd to start whistling and clapping.
“Do you have to do that every time?” Willow asked her brother.
“Yep!” Xander laughed and reclined back in his seat.

Willow walked up to the stage. “You know which one Mac?”
The man nodded and put the CD in the machine.

Willow cleared her throat and held the microphone up to her mouth all the while looking at Tara.

Why are there so many
songs about rainbows?
And what's on the other side?
Rainbows are visions,
but only illusions,
and rainbows have nothing to hide

Tara’s smile was beaming.

So we've been told and some choose to believe it.
I know they're wrong, wait and see.
Someday we'll find it,
the rainbow connection.
The lovers, the dreamers and me.

Willow walked off the stage over to where Tara was and sat down at the table.

Who said that every wish would be heard
and answered,

“Sing with me.” Willow said and Tara pulled the microphone closer to her keeping her hand on Willow’s.

Someday we'll find it, the rainbow connection.
The lovers, the dreamers and me.

All of us under its spell.
We know that it's probably magic.

Both women turned to face one another and smiled.

T: Have you been half asleep
and have you heard voices?
W: Yes, I've heard them calling my name.
T: Is this the sweet sound
that calls the young sailors?
W: The voice might be one and the same.
T: I've heard it too many times to ignore it.
W: It's something that I'm supposed to be.
Together: Someday we'll find it, the rainbow connection.
The lovers, the dreamers and me

Willow and Tara placed their foreheads together.

Tara moved in closer to Willow. Their lips brushed together then they were ripped apart by Xander picking Willow up and swinging her around.
“That was great! You two need to do that number more often.” He sat her down and gave her a big hug.
“Well that was a once in a lifetime thing so I hoped you enjoyed it.” Willow said as she pulled back.
“You know what, I’m uh…I was wondering Willow if you wanted to go for a ride with me?” Tara said nervously.
“Sure. I’d love to.” She looked over at her smiling brother. “You won’t mind will ya?”
“Not at all. Tara, take my sister please?” He rolled his eyes for effect.
Tara rose up from the table. “Happy to do it.”
Grabbing Willow’s hand, Tara practically pulled her out of the building.

Xander watched them go. “I hope she is the one Will.” He said and took a drink from his beer.

Who said that every wish would be heard
and answered,
when wished on the morning star?
Somebody thought of that
and someone believed it.
Look what it's done so far.
What's so amazing that keeps us star gazing
and what do we think we might see?

hey WW!

oh yeah! great update! i can just imagine tara singing only for willow... putting all her emotions to the lyrics... everyone else disappearing into the background... there's just willow at the center of her world... sssiiiigggghh!

i'm really glad willow changed her mind about going with them or she would've missed this important turn in their relationship... and tara wouldn't have really enjoyed the night without her there...

the arm wrestling challenge was quite funny... i almost thought she might not win that dance with tara... great thinking on tara's part there! that definitely put a boost to willow's waning strength hehe!

willow's song is so cute as well! i could just imagine her singing that and everyone else secretly singing along...

“How come all the women are gay? Is it me? Do I smell bad or have horrid breath?” Xander asked looking at the interaction between the two.

i'm glad he's is a good sport about all this... i've always loved xander's character... he definitely is a great guy best friend for willow.

“I have been trying to get her to leave this one horse town for years but she won’t budge.” Xander said

why do i have the feeling that tara is what she might be waiting for all along to whisk her off to land unknown?

“You know what, I’m uh…I was wondering Willow if you wanted to go for a ride with me?” Tara said nervously.

YES! can't wait to find out where tara is taking her...

more soon please!

Oh, you got off to a great start here. :) Willow being her usual spazzy and adorable self, and a very sexy version of Tara here.

I kept laughing when reading about Willow's near-orgasmic experience when examining Tara's car. Well done!

Xander is Willow's brother? Xander Rosenberg... Hmm... Good decision to keep his own name. :) Cute motel too. :)

Great start, love to read more.
Max : Do you mind if I drive?
Sam : Not if you mind me clawing at the dashboard and shrieking like a cheerleader.

Sarah McLachlan singing "Rainbow Connection"?
Call me old-fashioned if you will, but I can only picture Kermit the Frog sitting on that log in the bayou swamp with the banjo singing that at the beginning of "The Muppet Movie."
Other than that, it's an endearing and sweetly positive scene in the karaoke bar.
Who could blame Xander for trying to charm Tara with his roguish charm?
Willow is the one for Tara and sparkage will always occur.
I can deny chicks in chainmail nothing.

tarebear: Yep! Totally get the hint! I'll work on the other stories soon. :letter

Useful_Oxymoron: Well, we all have to write Willow as she normally is. Even though I've taken them out of character plenty of times and I'm sure I've pissed a lot of people off by doing it too.

Shy one: Hope you like this update!

taralicious: About the song Rainbow Connection, yeah I know it's the Kermit version BUT when I was downloading it off the internet, found out that Sara sung it too so I used her version. It's the same song and all but Willow singing a frog song? Kinda takes the mood out of it. LOL!

Thanks guys for your reviews. And now, CHAPTER 3.

DESERT HEAT
Chapter 3
A Moment Like This is sung by Kelly Clarkson.

Music drifted from the speakers into the night.
“So this is where you come to look at the stars?” Tara asked lying on the hood of her car with Willow beside her.
“Uh huh. I know it’s far away from town and you can see the stars anywhere but it’s just my own little private spot.” Willow answered looking up at the twinkling spots covering the sky.
Tara turned her head to look at the redhead. “Thank you for sharing it with me.”
Willow didn’t reply. “Look!” She pointed up.
Tara gazed in the direction and saw a shooting star.
“Make a wish!” Willow said excitedly.
“I have everything I need. You make one.” Tara said.
Willow closed her eyes tight. She smiled and looked over at Tara.
“What did you wish for?” Tara asked.
“Nothing really. I kinda did it for effect.” She giggled.
“So you’re not a destiny kinda girl, huh?”
“Not so much.” Willow turned her head back to the sky.
“Fate?” Tara asked.
“Nope.”
“What do you believe in then?”
“I believe in living for now. There is no guarantee for the future but there is for this second this moment.” Willow jutted out her chin to express her point. She relaxed her jaw. “So, what do you believe in?”
“I believe there are things out there that cannot be explained. I think that we are destined to have greater things in life and when they come along, we shouldn’t question it.” Tara smiled. “Dance with me?”
“Out here?”
“Why not? It’s peaceful and no crowds to bump into us and I can promise closeness.” Tara smirked.
“Then by all means, let’s dance.” Willow slid off the hood and took Tara’s hand to follow.
Tara went and leaned over her door knowing that Willow’s eyes would catch the little wiggle of her butt. She changed the CD to her favorite song.

The sound of an acoustic guitar wafted out of the speakers. Tara smiled and turned to face the other woman.
Willow instinctively placed her hands on Tara’s hips and the blonde’s hands went around Willow’s shoulders.

What if I told you
it was all meant to be
Would you believe me
Would you agree

Willow and Tara stared into each others eyes. Swaying to the music they moved closer to each other.

It's almost that feeling
that we've met before
So tell me that you don’t think I'm crazy
When I tell you love has come here and now

Their lips brushed against the other. Kissing slowly, Tara licked Willow’s bottom lip. The redhead moaned into the sensation and captured Tara’s tongue, taking it into her mouth.

A moment like this
some people wait a lifetime
for a moment like this
some people search forever
for that one special kiss

Their bodies moved together with their mouths clashing and hands roaming over each other. Both women felt as if they were floating.
Tara gently pushed Willow against her car and picked up the smaller woman and sat her on the hood. She pulled back from the kiss to stare into those green eyes and smiled. Willow took in a sharp intake of air at the beautiful woman in front of her.
Willow took her finger and traced up and down the crevice between Tara’s breasts. “So, um is this what I get for winning?”

Oh, I can't believe it's happening to me
some people wait a lifetime
for a moment like this

Crashing into the room, Tara backed Willow against the door kissing up and down her freckled neck.

Everything changes
but beauty remains
something so tender
I can't explain
well I may be dreaming
but still lie awake
can we make this dream last forever
And I'll cherish all the love we share

Tara’s breathing was coming in gasps. “Need…lie down…now.” Tara twirled the redhead around and pushed her down on the bed.
Willow propped herself on her elbows and watched Tara as she unbuttoned her dress and let it fall to the floor to be nothing but a puddle at her feet.
“Nice.” Willow commented as she saw the lacy bra and panties to match that kept the blonde covered.

A moment like this
Some people wait a lifetime
for a moment like this
some people search forever
for that one special kiss

Tara stepped closer to Willow discarding her bra over her shoulders when she straddled the redhead.
“Oh God Tara.” Willow reached up and grasped one of Tara’s breasts.
Tara hissed and her eyes fluttered closed as she felt her nipples go tight with excitement.

Oh, I can't believe it's happening to me
some people wait a lifetime
for a moment like this

Willow took her other hand and slipped it under Tara’s cotton covered crotch pushing two fingers inside the blonde.
Tara threw her head back and jerked her hips forward at the contact causing Willow’s fingers to go in deeper.

Could this be the reign of love above
I wanna know that you will catch me when I fall
so let me tell you this
some people wait a lifetime
for a moment like this

Pushing her fingers in harder, Willow watched in awe as Tara moaned at the pleasure she was given.
“Yes Tara.” Willow whispered out feeling the pool of wetness pour over her hand.

Some people spend two lifetimes
for a moment like this
some people search forever
for that one special kiss
oh I can't believe it's happening to me
some people wait a lifetime
for a moment
like this

Tara screamed out as her climax ripped threw her. She rode Willow’s fingers harder and faster.
“OH WILLOW!” She yelled out with another orgasm.
She collapsed on top of Willow panting hard.
“Wow.” She whispered out. Pulling her head up, she slowly kissed the redhead.

Oh, like this
some people search forever
oh yeah
some people wait a lifetime
for a moment
like this
.

Willow moaned in pleasure as the dream left her mind. She pulled her head back looking into blue eyes.
“You must like the way I dance.” Tara giggled.
“Oh definitely. You have wonderful moves.” Willow gave her a bright smile.
“You want to stay out here or go back to your place for some coffee or something.
“Something would be nice.” Willow moved her head closer. “Can I kiss you?”
“Definitely.” Tara moved her head closer and silently moaned as their lips came together.
Willow pulled away from the kiss leaving a few pecks on Tara’s cheek. “That was nice.
“Definitely.” Tara smiled. “Shall we go then?” She backed up and pulled the car door open.
“Definitely.” Willow giggled as she slid into the seat.
"Oh yeah?! Well...so's your face!

Woo-hoo,
Nothing makes kittens sit up and take notice, even a tom such as myself, as vicarious Willow/Tara hardcore smut, especially when Tara takes the lead.
It isn't everyone who has the emotional acumen to recognize when the cosmic forces offer us the chance to raise our quality of life by choosing to follow our heart.
The discussion between Willow and Tara on the hood of Willow's car reminded me of this.
If life in the dreamscape is that freakin' hot, imagine how exponentially erotic their first tactile encounter will be.
I for one will be putting a drip guard over my keyboard to protect it from shorting out again.
I can deny chicks in chainmail nothing.

Hey people! Thought I would let you know that I am going to try and put up another chapter soon. Ya see I've been having a lot of medical problems and I have to go to my doctor today to see if I need surgery or not. Sooo, I've been working on chapter 4 and like I said I hope to get it up (no pun intended) soon. Take care kittens.

i hope you feel better soon WW... no need to hurry about posting... what's important is your health... as the president, i'll even put a decree to have holiday for you and you can take as long as you want... when you get back in tip-top shape then i can harrass you again with updates (coz as a president, i am allowed that ha ha!) :peace

seriously though, my prayers are with you... i hope the doctor gives you some good news.

hope these dancing elephants will make you feel better! :pinky :pinky :pinky
