Summary: AU Tara loses people she loves at a young age. Now learning to live with the one person she cannot stand is going to be challenging…until she meet’s another one like her…but can they see eye to eye and help each other through life’s demanding ways…

~*Note: I never used a Beta reader again, so I apologize for mistakes I have made and such

Hey Kittens! It’s me…Holly!

I just had this crazy plot and story come into my head, and thought I’d start it off for you to read a bit of it.

Now, this story isn’t going to be updated nearly as often as ‘Never A Night Like This’ so please be patient with this one…that is if you like.

I had some help, a little help writing this one and getting it organized from my beautiful girlfriend Leah. So it’s from the both of us really.

A few things you should know about this first:

1) This is another AU fic, because I can’t really follow along with any of the episodes, plus I love my AU world of Tara and Willow… *sigh* So anything revolving around what has happened between Willow and Tara through out BtVS has not happened here.

2) This is a non-supernatural fic, therefore, Willow and Tara are not powerful witches and slayers or vampires do not exist either. However, Buffy is still Buffy…just not an extra kick ass strength power chick…

3) In this fic we are dealing with a lot of issues. Example: Tara is on a life track that could lead her into danger… she’s not in a right crowd.

Also it may a little ‘dark’ in some area’s and angst in others.

4) Tara’s mother is very much alive, she was adopted when she was younger, but has no clue that the mother who is ‘raising’ her now is not her real mother…but her father is still her biological father…please keep that in mind.

5) Willow will be mention soon. But for the first part, this is Tara’s past… Willow’s will be remained a secret for a while…

I hope you all enjoy this, it’ll be different from my other story…very different.

With that said…here we go on the beginning:

~*~*~*~*~*~

~Part 1~ Revealing the Past

**~~~~**~~~~**~~~***

“What is happiness?” Tara Maclay thought. She never really led a very happy life, and she wasn’t sure if she’d ever lead a very happy life. Her father, Michael, had left her mother when she was eight years old. Her sister Tray-Al, was two years older then her, making her ten.

Belinda Maclay was a drug addict. It seemed to be the only way she knew how to live her life. Raising two girls that didn’t even seem like hers, and dealing with a husband who didn’t seem to support her at all…it wasn’t like he never supported her, but how can one support when all you do is waste your life away on chemicals.

**~~~~**~~~~**~~~***

At the tender age of ten, Tara had decided that she was going to move in with her father. He was clean, had a very nice house, a great job, and a beautiful girlfriend. Tray-Al moved in at the same time, leaving Belinda alone with her problem.

“Tara!” Tray-Al yelled from the bottom of the stairs. “You’re going to be late for school.”

Tara flew down the stairs with her hood half on and half off. “Ok ok!” She huffed going over to kiss her father bye.

Karen, Michael’s girlfriend, drove them to school, dropping Tray-Al of at Junior High first, then Tara at the elementary school.

“I’ll be by to pick you up after school…be watching for me.” Karen kissed Tara.

“Ok. Oh, can we have pizza tonight?” Tara’s blue eyes reflected in Karen’s own.

“Sure, I’ll tell your father that his littlest angel wants pizza…now scoot. I’ll be late for work.”

Tara giggled and watched her ‘step-mom’ drive off.

**~~~~**~~~~**~~~***

Thirteen years old, Tara grew up quite a bit in the past three years. She was the same height as her sister, and her hair was very long and blonde. She filled out quite beautifully and Tray-Al would tease her about becoming a troll if she grew any more inches in the next couple of years. They haven’t even heard from Belinda…

“Dad’s so going to kill you if you wear that out Tray.” Tara laughed watching Tray-Al sport her new tank top, and skirt.

“You think he’ll notice?” Tray-Al laughed twirling around in front of her mirror.

“Who wouldn’t notice you…you look beautiful.” Tara sat up on Tray-Al’s bed and crossed her legs. “He’s still…and what about Karen?”

“Karen’s a softie, tell you what, you distract dad when I head out the door.”

“No way.”

“You can come if you want…we’re just going to a movie.” Tray-Al climbed on the bed and hugged Tara. “Please Tare…I’ll love you forever and ever.”

“Stop pouting…you already do love me forever and ever.” Tara grinned. “Fine, I’ll be a distraction, but I’m going to stay home tonight and finish my home work.”

“Ok…I love you.” The older blonde bounced on the bed hugging Tara tight.

“Promise me though, that you’ll act like a normal fifteen year old later.”

Tray-Al picked up a pillow and threw it at your sister’s head. “Promise. Only if you promise not to let dad or Karen dust my snow globe’s…they mix all of them up.”

“Tray, you have like…a hundred of them…not one person can remember where they all go.” Tara reasoned.

“You do.” Tray smirked throwing her sister a wicked glance.

“Ah yes, years of getting paid half your allowance for cleaning your messes up…that is the life.”

“Tray-Al! You’re ride is here.” Michael Maclay yelled.

Tara rolled off the bed and rushed down the stairs in front to her sister and dragged her dad into his study for a little ‘chat’.

Michael sat in his desk chair looking quite amused at his youngest daughter. He knew something was up, but knew better not to pry. Eventually Tara will cave and give, but he wasn’t one to yell at his daughters for anything, he trusted them to know well enough what to do, and what not to do.

“Did you change your study around?” Tara asked looking at the dark oak shelves filled with books that she had yet to understand.

“No, same as it’s always been.” Michael snickered. “You want to tell me what’s up?” He asked smiling.

“The ceiling, your chandelier, maybe a few spider webs…” Tara looked up inspecting the light fixtures.

“Anything on your mind hon?”

Tara looked back at him and stared into his blue eyes, “Um…yeah, uh…oh, um…I started my period.”

Michael nodded slowly, not expecting that one to come from his little girl. Tray-Al maybe, but Tara, she was usually the quiet-I’ll deal on my own kind of person. “Ok…so, what did you need then?”

“Not sure…was going to talk to Karen about this one. No clue why I sprang it on you.” Tara blushed and opened the door.

“Tare snuggle bear…”

“Yes dad?” Tara smiled.

“I love you.”

“I love you too dad.”

TBC…

Hey Kittens. First of all, THANK YOU to those who have the wonderful feedback. :) Second of all…this part a very short...I’m guessing that a lot of you are going to be surprised as too what happens in the first part for PART 2. This story has many twists…so be prepared and HANG ON…

Summary: AU Tara loses people she loves at a young age. Now learning to live with the one person she cannot stand is going to be challenging…until she meet’s another one like her…but can they see eye to eye and help each other through life’s demanding ways…

~Part 2a~ Sinking Into Reality

**~~~~**~~~~**~~~***

Two years later

Tara sat quietly in her classroom, listening to the teacher go on about math or something. She wasn’t really paying attention. Her gaze was outside, watching the leaves blow across the field and the clouds float just above them, dark and grey, ready to rain.

Bringing her out of her thoughts, the teacher had came up to her whispering in her ear. “You’re wanted in the office.”

Tara gathered her books slowly, throwing them carelessly into her bag, and shuffled out of the door, letting her hair fall in front or her face as she shut the classroom door behind her.

Entering the office, Tara’s heart sank deeply, and her breath was caught in her throat. There stood a police officer with Tray-Al by his side, crying. “Is it mom?” She asked approaching her sister.

Tray never answered her. The police officer knelt down by Tara’s side. Grabbing her hand gently, he started talking. “Tara sweetheart, listen to me. There has been an accident, I need you to stay calm while your sister and you will come with me to the station.”

Tara never understood a word he was saying really. She was very confused, and things were a blur, she knew something bad had happened, and she didn’t think she could take it, whatever it was. “Tray, what’s wrong?” She asked her sister, following her to the police car outside. Tray never answered, she just took her baby sisters hand and squeezed it gently.

Students, seniors that were on breaks, watched them as if they were juvenile delinquents. Both young Maclay’s could care less about that right now. Tara knew Tray was hiding something, why can’t she just tell her? No one told Tara at that time, what was going on, it was frustrating for her, even though it was a short ride from the school to the station.

Sitting down, Tray and Tara tried to make out what the two officers were saying in the back. They kept looking at them and then at a file, finally a police officer came out to break and shatter Tara’s world.

“Hi Tara, I’m Officer Lima.” A young officer sat next to Tara.

“What’s going on?” Tara asked quietly. She grabbed the sleeve of her shirt and chewed on her bottom lip, expecting the worst.

Officer Lima took a deep breath before continuing. “It’s about your father…he and his girlfriend were thrown off the road.” He paused noticing Tara’s eyes fill with fear, shock and denial. “The Semi truck lost control on the highway in the outskirts, they didn’t survive. Sweetie…I’m very sorry.” When he went to comfort her, Tara shoved him out of her way and fled out the door.

Tray-Al sprang up from her seat and ran after her sister. Catching her in the pouring rain…both sisters held onto each other tight, sobbing together, falling onto the wet ground where they rocked back and forth, trying to feel anything but pain and heartache. Trying to feel…safe.

**~~~~**~~~~**~~~***

Later on that day, Tray and Tara were brought to a small shelter for the night. The safest shelter that the officers could think of. Just until the found a temporary home…not knowing that it could be possible of their mother Belinda to take them back into her own home.

Not a lot of teens and kids there for the same reason. The majority of them were runaways and some were homeless. And some homeless children had parents in their lives, but were disowned or kicked out for various of reasons.

Tara and her sister weren’t really feeling comfortable with making friends there. It wasn’t that they didn’t want to, it’s just they couldn’t have other people talk about what they were there for and why, only because they couldn’t talk about it themselves and didn’t need the worries and other problems of the others when they already had so much to deal with. Besides, Dad and Karen were going to pick them up any time soon, they were going to wake up from the brutal hell of a nightmare…

Tray-Al had picked out two cots beside each other, looking around, she found herself pretty lucky seeing as the other cots were all scattered. “This way we can sleep peacefully knowing that we’re together.” Tray cupped Tara’s baby face, “We’ll be okay.” She looked so worn out. Her blue eyes glossed with tears, her own blonde hair in her face, and her voice was quivering while she was trying to convince Tara that everything will be okay. “I promise.” Right there and then, they both collapsed onto the cots and held each other tight, crying.

**~~~~**~~~~**~~~***

About three hours later, Tara took a walk out back. Thinking endlessly about when her Dad and Karen were going to walk through that door and save them. Hold them; let them know that things are okay. Reality just hadn’t clued in yet to the young teenager.

It was cold out with a brisk breeze blowing through the leaves of the trees. The stars looked like giant diamonds sparkling, almost like they were trying to keep their stargazer occupied. Tara breathed in the night’s fresh air, her mind running in every direction, not focusing on one thing at a time. < This is so not happening, I’m only fifteen, I’m suppose to have a family…a normal family. Not one that just disappears within a blink of an eye. Dad and Karen have to be alive…they have to be alive. >

Tray-Al came up behind Tara, shattering her inner thoughts. The younger blonde turned to look and at her sister and noticed she still looked worn out. Tara wrapped an arm Tray and tried her best to make her feel better. “Tray, everything will get better…you’ll see. Dad and Karen should be walking though that door any minute.” She smiled at Tara, trying to really believe that what she had just said, was the truth.

Tray-Al stepped back a bit and looked confused. Tilting her head a bit, she studied Tara’s face; watching and feeling how much hope her sister was holding. “What!? Tara, they are not coming, they are not going to walk in that door and make this nightmare disappear…they are dead…” Watching Tara shake her head broke her heart even more, grabbing Tara’s elbows she pulled her closer. “Tare, listen to me…I know you don’t want to believe it but they are dead…they are not coming back.”

“No they are not!” Tara said frustrated and in fear. “They would never leave us, at least not without saying goodbye.” Tray-Al tried to pull Tara close, but Tara pushed away. “You have no clue what you’re talking about.” She fell to her knees and began to cry covering her face with her hands. “Why? Why would you say that Tray-Al?”

Tray knelt next to Tara and cuddled of beside her, neither saying a word, they just stayed there, holding, rocking and crying softly.

Hi Kittens :wave

It's Leah. I finally got myself an account here, so I can help Holly out with this fic. And of course, read others, fabulous talent we have here. Can't wait to kick Holly off here sometimes and read them all.

I'd like to thank all of you for the wonderful feedback. Things will work out great. Trust Us. No one likes an unhappy Tara right? Especially not Holly. :grin

Thank you all! :D
