Chaper 1

Willow was sitting in her biology class on a hot Friday afternoon. 'Okay this is California, right? You’d think that someone would have the decency to fix the air conditioner. I can’t remember the last time its been so hot,' she thought.

She turned her eyes to the teacher, who despite the heat felt she could make her students feel better by taking them outside. This lady had to be one of the girls favorite teachers. Unlike a lot of the other teachers at Sunnydale High, she really seemed to know a lot about teaching.

She couldn’t even begin to imagine how some of her other teacher even got a degree. With their apparent lack of teaching ability and knowledge of their subject, she was surprised they had managed to graduate. But of everything about this teacher what actually impressed her the most is that everyone paid attention.

Today was different however. Even Willow wasn’t paying attention and barely had taken any notes. She looked around and watched her fellow students turn their attention to the teacher.

“So what’s the key differences between reptiles and amphibians?”

“Besides the fact one has scales and one’s slimy?” Willow turned her head slightly and looked to find a bored Xander staring at Cornelia.

“Well, thank you Miss Chase, but I’m looking for more scientific answers.” The teacher turned her attention to Willow hoping the girl would take the hint to answer the question.

“W-well isn’t basically that reptiles aren’t dependent on water?” The voice came from somewhere behind Willow. As she turned she noticed that she wasn’t the only one stunned that someone beside herself actually knew the answer. Her eyes fell on a blonde she hadn’t really ever noticed. “ F-for reproduction I mean. S-since they don’t have to lay their eggs in or around water they can live in areas without an abundance of water. And therefore can live in a variety of

different places.”

Willow continued to watch as the blonde’s eyes met her own briefly before she quickly turned them back to the teacher. ‘ A pretty blue.’

“And how have they accomplished this?”

“With the amniotic egg. It acts like the mother of a mammal would. It provide the food for the fetus, also acts a cushion for the baby, and disposes of waste.”

“Very good Miss Maclay. Well done, now can anyone tell her what adaptations bird have for flying? How about yourself Miss Chase?”

Cordelia pushed herself up from the rock she had been leaning against. Harmony and her girls turned to their leader. “Okay I know this. Birds adaptations for flying, right?” She asked the teacher for conformation and got a nod in return. “ Well, firstly would be their feathers and wings, the hollowing of their bones which keeps their weight down. Oh, and they also lay their young in eggs to also keep their weight down.”

She took a second to ponder for a second. Willow noticed she looked kinda at a loss for the rest of the information. She was actually impressed with the brunette’s answers so far and decided to help her out. She caught the girl’s eyes and quickly pointed to her heart. Cordelia looked confused for a second before a sudden look realization.

“And they also have a four chambered heart which allows them to have enough energy for flying. “ With that she looked back to the teacher to confirm her answer. The teacher took a second but finally nodded her head. Cordelia looked over to Willow who was smiling as her. ‘Good job,’ she mouthed to the

brunette. The girl nodded her head in thanks and quickly turned to Harmony and her girls who looked surprised the girl actually knew the answer.

“Anyone else, know anymore adaptations?” The redhead raised her hand to answer the question when she caught eyes once again with the blonde. The girl smiled shyly at her and nodded her head toward the brunette. Willow smiled at her in return. “ Miss Rosenberg?”

“Also, they also have a great respiratory system which increases the amount of oxygen in their body which in turn, helps with the weightlessness.”

“Good job Miss Rosenberg and you too Miss Chase.” She was about to ask another question when the bell rang and her students began to pick up their bags and put their books away. “Good job class. Have a great day and stay safe.” With that she picked up her stuff and headed off to meet her next class.

“So Wills, what was that about?”

“What was what about?” she replied.

“You helping Cordy? I kinda got the idea that you hate her,” Xander said.

“What do you mean hate her? I don’t hate her. Nope I don’t. Why would you get that idea?” Willow said.

“Oh the whole ‘we hate Cordelia club’ in which you, if I remember correctly are president,” Xander gently reminded her.

“I was just helping her out. I think she might actually know this stuff,” she answered, shrugging it off.

“Yeah, I guess, seemed like it anyway. Very non-Cordelia answer she gave,” Xander said.

“Yeah.” Willow walked with Buffy and Xander to their next class, literature. Willow, Xander, and Buffy sat in their regular spots in the back. To their great surprise Cordelia entered the class room and sat next to Willow.

Harmony entered the class room a few seconds later and looked around for the brunette and didn’t even hide her shock at finding the brunette sitting next to the redhead. Harmony threw a nasty look at the redhead before sitting on the brunettes other side.

Willow turned her attention to the front of the classroom where the blonde from biology was talking with her lit teacher. 'What the heck, here she is again,' she thought. The redhead turned to the blonde on her right. “Buffy have you ever noticed that girl talking to the teacher?”

“Yeah I’ve noticed her a couple times. Why?”

“Nothing, just kinda strange I never noticed her. How about you Xander?” She quickly turned to her friend on the other side of Buffy who was staring at the blonde with fascination.

“She’s hot,” Xander stated.

“Well thank you for that prefect answer.” Buffy replied.

“Wills what do think? I’m right, aren’t I?” Willow briefly looked at her friend with a mock look of disgust before she turned her attention to the blonde. She looked at the blonde’s hair which was slightly darker on top and got lighter as it went down. She noticed her outfit which seemed kinda outta place fora place such at Sunnydale.

She dressed more adult then anyone at the high school. She noticed the way the girl was nervously running her fingers through her hair as she talked to the teacher. “Adorable.” She watched as a slight frown came across the girls features as the teacher continued to address

her.

“So the verdict is?” Xander asked eagerly.

Willow continued to ponder. 'Hot? Not really sure that’s the right word. Yeah she’s pretty. Hmmm... very pretty even, adorable yes, hot no. Hot is to immature. She doesn’t seem like the rest of the girls here, cause she’s not. She’s something else all together. Beautiful.' She managed to stop her internal babble long enough to answer, “Um... She’s pretty I guess.”

“I still say she’s hot,” he repeated.

“Xander shut up. She pretty I’ll give ya that but nothing outta the ordinary.”

“Hmm...” she muttered before thinking, 'I don’t buy it Buff, there’s something about her.'

wow. this is a really good fic.

like really, really good.

It's really well written, and I like the flow.

I'd really like to know where you're going with this, I'm so interested now. :)

And is Willow already gay, because her answer to Xander made me think not, but her internal babble made me think she was, but then I got to thinking why would Xander specifically ask WIllow? Also, does Cordy have a crush on Willow or something? She's being nice, and smart, and I think I could like a nice, smart, Willow-friendly Cordelia, as long as they didn't date, Willow would need to date Tara for me to like Cordy. My tiny sidenote has turned into a babble. *le sigh*

<3 I hope to see more soon.!!! Keep it up!

Chapter 2

Later on that day Willow, Xander, and Buffy met up at the cafeteria for lunch. Buffy and Xander were standing in the lunch line, while Willow sat quietly at their table, just staring off into space. Buffy and Xander were standing in the lunch line carrying on a conversation about nothing. While Willow sat quietly at their table, watching the students, but not really seeing them, kinda just staring off into space

"Buff, any idea what's up with Will? She seems kinda spacey," Xander asked.

"Huh? Whatcha mean Xander?" The blonde slayer asked looking over at Willow, slightly clueless as always.

"Don't ya see it? She's way quieter than usual," Xander replied, again glancing over at his best friend.

"Guess I haven't noticed," Buffy commented. "Now that I think about it she has been acting weird since lit." she thought.

"I'll ask her about it later," Xander declared.

"You do that," Buffy answered absentmindedly, starting to study Will. It kinda reminded her of the look she always seemed to get when researching for Giles. She had a certain guilty love of the look, it told her there were things that even the brainy redhead didn't understand.

"So… whatcha want? Stale pizza or leftover leftovers?" Xander quipped, a look of disgust and humor on his face.

"First, eww! Second, I’m not eating either of those, I'll just grab a coke. See ya in a bit Xan." She walked to the head off the line, paid for her coke and made her way over to Willow. " Things busy up there?"

"Things busy? What things? Up where? What are you talking about?" Willow asked, snapping out of her daze when she heard Buffy’s voice.

Buffy smiled at the confused expression on Willow's face. "You know, in that busy mind of yours."

"Oh, right, not to much, just thinking, you know.” Willow babbled a little.

“Bout what?” Buffy asked.

“About um... biology!" Willow declared a little too quickly.

" Right," the blonde agreed calmly, not wanting to further excite her friend.

"Uh, Buffy? Why didn't you get anything to eat?" Willow asked noticing the extreme food lackage.

"No! Ugh, that stuff looks way nasty. Very bleh," Buffy replied, her expression so disgusted, it was comical.

"Where'd Xander go to?" Willow looked around the blonde trying to see if maybe Xander was following her.

"Where else?” Buffy joked, cocking her head to the side in Xander’s direction. “He's in line, getting the very incredibly nasty looking stuff they’re callin food."

"That sounds just like him," Willow laughed, recalling a few memories of time with Xander.

"Hey, I gotta go to the library for a bit. I'll be back as soon as possible, ok?" Buffy asked her friend. She was pleased to see her smile, Will seemed to be cheering up, but she had to make sure.

"Yeah, see ya Buff," Willow said.

With that settled, at least for now, Buffy headed towards the library. As she was walking out of the cafeteria she accidentally knocked into the “hot” blonde from lit and biology. She bent to help the girl pick up the books that have been knocked out of her hands during the collision.

"Oh my gosh, let me help you with those." Buffy quickly picked up the girl's book and handed them to her. " I'm really sorry about that. Kinda not watching where I was going. Oh! Where are my manners, I'm Buffy Summers." She held her hand out to the blonde in greeting, before noticing that the girl really didn't have a hand free for the task.

"Um ... nice to meet you. I-I'm Tara." With a shy smile and brief eye contact, she quickly brought her gaze down to the floor hiding slightly behind her long hair.

"Nice to meet you. I got to head to the library. Maybe I'll see you later." With another smile Buffy turned toward the library and headed off. “What an odd girl,” she thought to herself. “And so shy.”

Tara turned from where the blonde, Buffy, had walked and slowly walked into the lunch room. Buffy? Weird name, for a weird girl. She gave Tara the weirdest vibes. She had a very strong aura about her. It was filled with such darkness and light, such strength and power.

Tara sensed that the girl was very lonely, though she had friends. Somehow she just knew. She had seen the blonde with the redhead, Willow was her name, and the guy, whose name she didn't know yet.

As she continued to look around the cafeteria, her eyes fell upon the redhead. Tara took time to study the girl. From what she had heard around the school is the girl was really smart, really sweet and kind on top of it all.

Even Willow’s aura emitted her knowledge and power, kind of like the blonde but of the different variety. She looked down at the books in her hands. This could be her moment to finally meet the girl. She really needed to get some help in her lit class.

“However I could do this by myself. Its not really that hard, nothing a good reading wouldn't hurt. She sitting all by herself so maybe she wouldn't mind. But kinda seems like she's thinking, and don't people like to be left alone to do that? C’mon Maclay, get yourself together here,” she thought

Before she even knew what was happening she found herself at the redhead's table. "Um ... hi," she said shyly.

"Oh ... hey," Willow said, startled by the interruption. “Its her! Okay, Willow, chill out and breathe, its okay.” She gave the blonde a friendly smile.

"My name’s T-Tara, I'm in your ... lit class and um... I asked the teacher for some help ... you know to catch up with what I've missed ... and, well, she kinda gave me your name and said you were like um ... good with this stuff and would be a good person to help with this." Tara nervously raked her fingers through her hair.

"So, umm, I wanted to know if your not busy or anything if you could ... you know, maybe help me," Tara said before quickly adding. “If you can’t, it’s ok… I mean, I’d understand and all.”

"Oh, yeah, I'm your girl Tara. I mean I'm good with that, with the helping," Willow readily agreed. “With the helping what the heck was that?” she chastised herself. “Um ... what do you need help with?" She pulled up a chair next her and grinned in what she hoped was a friendly manner. With that the blonde, Tara took the seat.

Meanwhile Xander watched the two girls interact. The girls seemed to be in their own little world. " Mmm ... that girl is definitely hot."

Chapter 3

"Okay, so do you get this at all?" Willow asked an hour later. She and Tara were sitting outside in the courtyard, working on the lit assignments.

"I guess, I mean, I just don't really understand it," Tara said, frustration showing in her voice.

"What don't you get?"

"I guess, the whole why of it. They work so hard to kill him and everything, and they all end up killing themselves. What's the point?" Tara asked. 'Seems kinda stupid to me,' she thought silently.

"Yeah I agree much with the stupidness," Willow agreed, grinning slightly at the blonde.

’Did I say that out loud? Well, duh Tara. I mean if she can here you then you much have said it out loud, stupid...’ Tara shook her head and tried to tune back into what the redhead was saying.

"... I mean you can't really complain. He's a literary genius. Or so I'm told. I mean they keep making us reading his stories so I guess he has some importance," Willow recited. ‘Even if his stories were, and are completely stupid.’

"I just wanna say I really appreciate this. You helping me, and all" Tara said quietly. She watched the redhead play with the bent corners of her lit. book. As she watched she could she the slight frown developing on her sweet features and appeared to be in deep thought. ‘...something about her....beautiful...’ If she hadn't been completely quiet, Tara would have missed those few words. It was kinda like when you're out of range for a radio station. You can hear it, but all you get is bits and pieces of what's being said.

Willow brought her eyes up from the book she had been staring at and brought them up to the person she had been thinking about. 'There's something about her. Okay, so duh, I know that. Something that's making me continuously think about her. Okay we know she's pretty, yep no doubt about that. What is it though? What is it I'm so drawn to?’ When her mind stopped thinking for a brief second, she took the time to notice the sensation going on in her body. It felt like a sharp jolt of pain but immediately went away. 'What the hell's that?’ Somehow her body felt calmer and more in tune with everything around her. As she continued to look into the blue eyes she thought, 'Are you doing this to me?'

’Are you doing this to me?’ Tara her the question loud and clear. She had felt the pain too along with the sensations. ‘So I can hear her. Well, this is new. Can I hear anyone?’ She was abruptly taken out of her thoughts when a large shadow fell over the two.

"How are you two lovely ladies doing?" Willow turned from the blonde to see who had so rudely interrupted. It was Chet, probably the largest and stupidest football player Sunnydale High has seen in a good many years. ‘As if football players aren't stupid enough already.’ His gaze traveled from the redhead, to the blonde. Where it raked over Tara's body, something that Willow instantly noticed, and was surprisingly outraged by. ‘Hey you big jerk! Stop looking at her like that! It's really rude. She probably doesn't want some oversized moron looking at her anyway. You stupid jock, stop that, right now!’

Tara heard Willow's thought and couldn't help the smile that came to her face. ‘Wait, did I just hear her thoughts?’ It was then she also heard a book crash to the floor. She saw the redhead quickly put her hand back underneath the table looking as innocent as she could.

“Sorry," the redhead quickly mouthed. She watched as Chet quickly picked up the book and handed it to the Tara. When the blonde went to take the book Willow watched as his hands touched hers. ‘Eww, gross, stop it.’ Willow heard this. She might not know what the hell was going on, but she knew Tara didn't want this guys hands on her.

"Okay, why don't you just leave us alone. We were having a really nice lunch here," Willow said, standing up and facing the jock. She hoped and prayed that he would just leave them be. She had no slayer and no Xander to back her up. She had no one, but it didn't matter, she had to protect Tara, she just, well, had to.

"Hey, Rosenberg, if she wants me to stop she could've said it already," Chet said mockingly. "Whatcha gonna do about it?"

"Do you want him touching you?" Willow asked, ignoring Chet's comment, and focusing on Tara. She knew it was no use, Tara was so shy she probably wouldn't answer, but she asked anyway..

"No. Make him stop, please." Tara whispered pleadingly. She didn't know why, but she trusted Willow completely. Though the voice was quiet, Willow heard the words clearly. Tara wanted Chet to stop. Willow had to stop Chet end of discussion. The emotions were strong, almost primal, one thought kept running through her head. ‘Protect Tara.’

"Okay Tara, it's gonna be ok," Willow said gently before turning back to face Chet, a quiet rage in her voice. "Get your hands off her, now," she practically growled.

Finally, Xander decided to make his presence known. "Hey, buddy, back off. I'd listen to the redhead. She might not look like much, but she's got friends in very high places. So you better keep away from them if you know what's good for you. And if you don't know what's good for you. Well, I'll make sure you find out," Xander said ominously.

"Whatever Harris," Chet answered, before storming off.

Xander turned to the girls. "You two okay?"

"Yeah, thanks Xander," Willow answer gratefully. Xander turned to Tara wanting her agreement of the redhead's statement.

"Oh...um...me.... I'm fine," Tara stuttered shyly, she had never had anyone stand up for her like that before. She was surprised, and strangely flattered by Willow's display of protectiveness. ‘There's something special about that girl.’

Willow couldn't help but grin as she heard that thought, but she was quickly snapped back to reality when Xander started speaking. "Good, I don't like my friends getting hassled, and any friend of Will's is a friend of mine." Xander gave the blonde a friendly smile. "Oh, and if you haven't caught on, I'm Xander. Best bud to the Willz here." Willow rolled her eyes at Xander's lame attempt at flirting.

"You should have sent a memo," Tara tried to joke.

"Maybe, but then that would take all the fun ought to telling everyone," Xander winked at her.

"Right," Tara said, looking down, embarrassed by all the attention.

"Willow picked up instantly on this, and quickly stepped in. "Well, I'm gonna go inside and enjoy the rest of the break. Tara come with?" Willow asked, in a tone she prayed wasn't too hopeful.

Willow held her hand out for blonde. Tara grabbed the redhead's hand and intertwined her fingers with Willow's. Together they walked out of the courtyard leaving a slightly confused Xander behind.

First off, let me say I really like this fic so far :D You've got a great start.

I think you've got Xander's character down to a tee (cheesy quips and all..). And the telepathy/sharing of thoughts, seems to me as a great way to show the instant bond Willow and Tara share. They don't even fully understand what's going on, but they understand that it's special and all their own.

As for Chet, it wouldn't be high school without him, now would it?

Keep up the good stuff! I eagerly await more!

Chapter 4

Together, Tara and Willow walked, their hands still clasped together. They had spent past last few minutes just walking, enjoying each other’s company. Willow didn’t know what do. If she’d start thinking things over in her mind she knew she would babble.

And that was the last thing she wanted, to have Tara think she was weird. She might not know her well, but something important had just happened between them. It wasn’t everyday you got to read someone else’s thoughts. Unless you were Buffy of course.

‘Does she get what this means? Do you?’

‘I do,’ Tara answered her unspoken question.

‘Why’s this happening?’ Willow asked.

‘I don’t know. I don’t really understand it either,’ Tara replied.

‘We really need to talk to Giles,’ Willow thought.

“Giles? Mr. Giles? The school librarian Mr. Giles?” Tara turned a bright shade of red when she noticed that she had said that aloud. She turned and noticed several people around them looking at her curiously. She tried to hide behind her hair, but Willow turned to her and used her free hand to softly brush the blonde’s hair behind her ear.

Yes, Giles. He’s more than he appears to be,’ Willow reassured Tara. With a grin Willow dragged Tara toward the library.

*******

“I don’t like it Giles. There’s something about her,” Buffy said, pacing around the library.

“And what exactly is it about her?” Giles asked in a calm fashion, as was his nature.

“Its my spidey sense. It’s telling me something’s up with her,” Buffy tried to explain.

“Demonic?” Giles replied, his interest peaking ever so slightly.

“I don’t think so. She doesn’t give me that kind of read. Its really weird. It’s kinda like the vibes you give me, they’re just, you know… different,” Buffy explained, starting to get frustrated.

“And those would be?” Giles asked, taking his glasses off and starting to clean them.

“I don’t know. That’s for you to figure out. I’m the slayer, if you got something that needs to be killed I’m your girl, but anything and everything else are your areas,” Buffy said with a grin.

“Yes, Buffy,” Giles agreed patiently.

At this exact moment Willow charged into the room, dragging a slightly amused Tara behind her. She stopped mid step in front of Buffy and Giles, so that Tara had to try to stop herself from running into the redhead.

Willow looked the librarian in the eye and pointed to him and blonde. With suspicion in her voice she asked, “What’s this?”

Buffy looked at the two, who she noticed were holding hands, before she turned toward Giles looking puzzled. Xander also chose this moment to enter the library, a bickering Cordelia behind him. The cheerleader seemed to make some sort of connection in her head. She gracefully sat in one of the chairs surrounding the main table. “So what apocalypse are we adverting now?” she asked, sounding annoyed.

“No apocalyptic fun to be had I’m afraid, but if you stay tuned later we might have something for your viewing pleasure,” Buffy said sarcastically to the May queen.

“Couldn’t we just have a boring day? Why’s everyday always so exciting?” Cordy griped.

“Well, our day is going to get more exciting when Will tells us what the emergency is,” Buffy said, turning to the redhead.

“Emergency? Huh, what happened?” Tara asked, gently squeezing the hand that was entwined with hers.

‘Oh yeah, that,’ Willow thought sheepishly.

Willow went on to explain the entire story which only really took a couple minutes, cause she didn’t know what was going on either.

“That’s so not fair. I’ve known Will longer. Why don’t I get cool physic powers?” Buffy complained. “Is this a permanent thing, cause that would be really cool.”

“I dunno Buffy. I really don’t understand it myself. Books would really help, at least I think they would. But I’m not even sure where to start,” Willow answered.

“Hey, I’ve known Willz longest. Since kindergarten, remember? Doesn’t that mean anything anymore?” Xander piped up.

“Hey, I’ve known her as long as you have Xander,” Cordelia said a huge smile on her face, that is, until everyone turned to her. “Not that want to hear her thoughts. I don’t wanna hear Rosenberg’s naughty thoughts,” she quickly said.

“I don’t have naughty thoughts! My thoughts are seldom bad, and never naughty,” Willow defended. She let go of Tara’s hand and sat in the back rows of chairs. ‘I don’t have naughty thoughts. Cause naughty thoughts usually consist of thinking of someone naked. And the only people I’ve seen naked are Xander and Buffy. And Xander was like 5 years old at the time and I’m sure he’s gotten a lot big -- whoa gonna stop that train of thought right there. In what weird world? Yuck, and Buffy. Buffy just Buffy nothing really -- oh, god, I’m thinking about Buffy naked... Ew... Okay clean thoughts. Puppies and bunnies. That’s good. Wait ... hold on one-second... Tara ... oh crap ... you’ve heard everything haven’t you?’ Suddenly she remembered that Tara could read her thoughts. She brought her eyes from the table to Tara who had a look an amusement in her eyes and was trying to hold back a giggle. ‘Oh crap, what have I done now?’ She started to blush, her face ending up as red as her shoulder length hair.

“So how do we control this. I mean, I wanna keep my Willow thoughts to myself, cause they’re my secret thoughts ya know. And having secret thoughts are important, cause there are things that just need to be kept secret,” Willow said, then realizing how her babble had sounded, she quickly added. “Not that there’s anything that’s not good and clean, and nice, and I’m gonna shut up now.”

“Well, I have some books we can look into, but I’m not sure what else we can do until school ends. After all, your lunch period is almost over,” Giles said, stepping in to stop the babble from continuing.

“You have books that can explain this?” Tara asked, she was kinda taken aback that there could be books that could explain something like this.

“Um, well, really, I mean they're not your everyday library books,” Willow started, she turned her complete attention to the Tara. “I really shouldn’t explain this here, but we don’t have that long. I promise, I’ll explain later.”

*******

“Okay, so Buffy is the slayer? And she, what? Hunts vampires?” Tara asked in shock.

“Yeah.” Willow answered, this talk wasn’t really going as she had planned.

“Willow, do you know have crazy this sounds?” Tara said, her eyes wide.

“Yeah, I do. I’ve done this before. It wasn’t to long ago when I was having this talk with Buffy myself,” Willow answered, mentally kicking herself for not explaining this better.

“When you said we had to talk, god this was the last thing from my mind. I mean, this wasn’t even anywhere in the ball park,” Tara said in a stunned tone.

“I-I’d understand if you didn’t wanna be near me, or even speak to me again. I mean I know this sound completely out there, but I can show you,” Willow said, trying hard not to cry. But the thought of losing Tara, even though she had only known her a short time, broke her heart.

“I c-can’t Will.” Tara was close to tears. She didn’t want this. She wanted to get to know the redhead, she wanted to so badly it hurt. But Tara didn’t want to get sucked into warped into this world of hers. She didn’t wanted to admit it, but she felt that there was something familiar with all this. She wanted the redhead, she had since she first saw her, but she couldn’t deal with all this. It all was to much for her.

She backed away from the redhead, fully wanting to run away, but her body and heart override any preference of her brain. Every voice in her was screaming at her to run away, just get away. At the same time, her body just wanted to be wrapped in the slim arms of the girl and never leave and her heart, wanted to look into her eyes and see the truth. She was so lost.

“Please, don’t go, please,” Willow asked in a voice so quiet Tara almost missed it. The redhead felt her heart break when the blonde stepped away from her.

“I can’t do this Will,” Tara said, trying to listen to her head. She looked into the redhead’s eyes, filled with such hurt. The thing Tara wanted most in the world was to tell Willow how she felt, to comfort her and dry her tears. but she knew she needed time. She had to have time. “I’m gotta go.”

“Tara.”

“Willow, sweetie, just give me a while to wrap my brain around this, k? Its kinda a lot to take in,” Tara said gently. She looked into Willow’s green eyes. When she ducked her head down Tara reached down and cupped the girl’s cheek gently. She softly kissed the girl on the cheek and softly whispered into Willow’s ear, “I’ll see you at the end of the day.”

“Yeah,” Willow answered, sounding defeated. She watched as Tara walked away. “Well this sucks.” She went off in the oppisite direction to go to her next class. ‘Okay that didn’t go too bad. Oh, hell, who are you trying to kid, that went completely horrible. What if I’ve lost any chance I might’ve had with her? I need to find Xander.’

When she finally reached the classroom that the both of them shared she was a bit surpirsed to find Xander already there sitting at there table. “Xander?” she asked quietly.

“Yeah, Will? What’s up?” he said, his grin fading as soon as he saw the look on his best friend’s face.

“She hates me,” she replied, trying her hardest not to cry.

“I’m sure whoever your talking about doesn’t hate you, cause its kinda impossible. Who are you talking about anyway?” he asked, standing up so he could comfort her.

He wanted to know who had inflicted such worry and sadness in his best friend. He would personally take the time to have a conversation about his problems with anyone making Willow sad. He offered her a hug which she gratefully fell into.

“Tara,” Came her muffled response. She breathed in the scent of his aftershave and cologne which always made her calmer. He gently rubbed her back, and held her tight, just enough to make her feel safe.

“I promise, she doesn’t hate you,” Xander said confidently. Willow looked up into his eyes, her face looking like that of a child. “I promise. You really like her don’t you?”

Usually at this point he gave her a goofy smile and tried to make her smile, but he saw how much whatever had happened between the two girls was hurting his best friend. “You wanna talk about it?”

“Please,” she whispered.

“Lets go for a walk, we just gotta ask the Miss Logan. It shouldn’t be a problem, we aren’t doing anything right now,” Xander said calmingly. After a quick word with Miss Logan, Xander led Willow gently out of the room, his arm still around her waist.

Krist, I have to say, you keep amazing me with every update. I know that we go through and hash out a few of the details. But seeing it on the kitten all put together. Your talent never ceases to amaze me.

I love the exchange between Willow and Xander. Totally classic. You have Xander pegged spot on. And Willow with the babble is just right. I can't wait for your next update, my friend.

In most stories, Tara is more than happy to fight the good fight with Willow, but in this one, she is struggling with the thought of fighting evil. I can't wait to see how she deals with everything.

Tara: My heart doesn't stutter.

Tara: Willow, I got so lost.

Willow: I found you. I will always find you.

This is amazing. Great discription, good storyline, and I just love the characterizations.
