Title: Different Times

Auther: Me!

Rating: um... how about a nice PG-13 for now?

Feedback: Need you even ask? Yes, please.

She slowly walked toward the main room that lay toward the end of the corridor. The warm, stone, tiles lay underneath her feet. As she walked across the tiles and down the steps she was silent admiring the stone. Beautiful, dark, green marble glowing like liquid with magics that gave it a wonderful blue tint. The walls were a bare gray rock material that she could not remember, but knew she had learned of before in her history class but the name alluded her. The walls were bound centuries ago to be a safe haven from magics and evil of any kind that would try to bring harm to it's people. Ancient warlocks of the strongest kind wove many powerful spells that were long lost to the present world.

Sometimes she wondered about the old days when this temple was merely a shine, but now its was a giant temple which kept many secrets. One of its greatest secrets would be the city that lay invisible to the normal eye. You wouldn't think that such a great place could ever be, but so much was beyond ones normal perception. If you could believe in the magic of the temple and the society you could see the greatness.

This room was almost a mile underground. The temperature was dropping but the tunic and robe wrapped her helped with keep her body warm. The large torches kept the area well lit, even with the seemingly lack of enough oxygen. That always bothered the girl about them temple. The heat that kept the floors and everywhere else of the temple at a warm temperature even in a age when that seemed impossible and unthinkable.

As she down the steps that neared the corridor to the temple she could hear raised voices, and with her hearing be abnormal she could all voices with perfect clarity. She stopped at the landing above the room in fear of being seen or heard. She pulled down her hood which might keep her from hearing everything clearly and when she did her red hair cascaded down her shoulders.

"You can do that to the young warrior!" Obviously they meant her.

"She took that chance when she put herself and this temple in danger." The old wise voice calmly said. She had never heard his voice, but she had never been in this much trouble before, so maybe that was a good thing. "I will not risk our safety over the stupidity of one naive, young girl."

"She is the best warrior we have had in centuries."

"She needs to learn from her actions and that they will not be tolerated in my temple. If you have trained her decently then this shall not be a hard task that I ask of her." The voice said calmly, years of wisdom and knowledge coming out of his voice.

"She is my charge." A familiar, feminine voice came out among the male voices. 'Thats my lady' The young girl thought to herself. 'Maybe with her on my side I stand a chance.' "Shes not ready to be out on her own. Sure, shes gone through the training, but she hasn't been trained for living on her own." 'I could so do that. I'm not completely helpless.'

"Well then are you ready to take the punishment? Or do you have a better idea? If you do I would love to hear it." The young girl knew that by her lady's silence she did not know of a better solution.

The girl turned her back against the temple room and slid down the wall. ' What am I going to do? My lady is right I do not know how to take care of myself. I was taught to fight and how to survive on the battlefield; not, in the wilderness. What would they do to me if I were to refuse? Would they take my sword? They can not take my sword. I have not been trained for anything else.' She had never been without her sword. 'Oh my goddess, would they break it?' She reached her her long sword securely held to her back. She brought it out slowly and lovingly gazed at it.

The black, clothed handle made it have a supreme grip than the others had in her rank. Given to her by her father and him by his, and so on down the line. It has lasted many outside wars and even a civil war.

"Willow, warrior of the northern shrine, of the temple of Vandormont come." Oh crap she hated her title. She slowly rounded from her hiding place and slowly took the steps toward the final room. When she could finally see the room, she could make out to armed guards at either side of the entrance.

"Weapons please." The young man with large arms said to her. She looked him in the eyes for a long moment, everything in her being screaming at her to not give over her sword and dagger. She looked over to the old man in the throne-like chair. When he nodded, she handed her long sword over to the young man to her left. She bent down and took the dagger from out of her boot and pointed it at the boy on her right who kept smartly still. "You keep this safe. I would hate for something to happen." She gave it over with a sweet smile at the boy who gulped loudly and nodded. 'So easy.'

She walked over to the old man and stood before her.

"Are you Willow Rosenberg, daughter of Ira and Shelia Rosenberg?"

"Aye."

"And do you swear before this court of that?"

"I do."

"Today, in this court, you will be handed your punishment for your actions, do you understand?"

"Aye."

"You are saying the you know of the event in which your being sentenced and are ready to handed your punishment." Willow looked over in the direction of her lady and she nodded.

"Aye, sir."

"For the action of putting yourself and another member of this temple in danger I find you guilty, and for the action of putting the entire temple in jeopardy I find you guilty. Do you disagree to these accusations?"

"No sir." If she was going to be punished for something she did she would not further embarrass herself, her company, or her family by acting childish. For once she would really have to act the adult they all expect of her. Though it was really hard of her when she just wanted to beat the crap out of the two guys at the entrance that wer currently staring at her ass. She knew it was nice, but she was being punished by high elder, this was so not the time.

"For your punishment I sentence you to two months of banishment. You will be not be allowed to come onto the land of this temple, and you will also not be able to see your family. As further punishment your long sword will be taken away from you and you will only be left with your dagger. You will be given one a weeks rations of bread and water to get you over the mountains. And if your family chooses you may take whatever you wish, but know that it will be examined and chosen whether or not you can take it. The failure to abide by any of these rules will be a prison sentence or banishment, do you understand?"

"Aye."

"I just have one thing further to tell you. You are a great warrior, with great instincts and better ability but if you want to be about of this temple you must follow the same rules as everyone else." He took a moment to carefully chose his words. "I have watched you since you were a child and have seen you grow up into the warrior you are. However, I think you should take this time to figure you what is is that you need to do and where you should be going."

She was about to interrupt when he continued. "This will give you time to figure that out. Even though you would be a great addition to the temple I feel that there might be more that lie in your future than this. I think you could be something more. Do not look at this as a punishment but as a chance to learn about yourself and what the world has to offer." With that said he nodded to her and got up and left through curtain behind him that she could have sworn had not been there before.

"Aye." She took a deep breathe. This would be the beginning of the rest of her life.

Yeah, I probably need a beta. You can see all those mistakes. Any comment of any kind is welcome.

As soon as the elder left the chamber she slowly closed her eyes. She tired to remain calm even though it was difficult. She tired to remember all the exercises her lady had taught her over the years. The gods that their temple worshiped would never give her more then she could handle. But how could that be true when she believe that she couldn’t handle it. She had never been away from the temple for more than a few days and that was with her lady. Her lady had always taken care of her and what would she do without her?

I will survive. I will make her and my teachers proud, and I will show my parents that I’m not the screw up they think I am.

Just imaging her parents giving her yet, again, another disapproving look brought a frown to her face. Would they her be proud of her? She was the best in her class, and she had never gotten into any kind of trouble until now.

That wasn’t even my fault. Its not like anyone would believe me anyway. Its not like she would tell anyone otherwise either. I pretty much screwed up trusting her like I have. She’s out of here if she gets one more strike against her, and I can’t let that happen. Nope.

She slowly opened her eyes. Her heart rate was back to normal and she felt calmer. This wouldn’t be so bad. She could make the best of this. Her lady would tell her all she needed to know. She looked over to the right where her lady had been standing before her judgment was cast. There she stood with several of the higher ranking members of the temple. Two older men spoke in whispers with her lady, while a younger man merely nodded his head at appropriate times.

Now what’s all this about?

She slowly walked over to the group and casually looped her through that of her ladies. “Hello my dear Willow.” Her lady affectionately addressed her. She ran a hand through her hair and place a few strands behind her ear.

“Oh, nothing at all my lady. Who are these handsome gentlemen?” She tried to pore on all the charm she could muster.

“No one of much importances I’m afraid. We are just old friends of Lady Briley.” The older man to her right said softly. He seemed like a good man and Willow began to instantly like him. His graying hair and soft blue eyes demanded it. The young boy to his left began to ring his hands in a nervous gesture. “Oh, please pardon my silliness, this would be my sage, Alexander.”

“We’ve met.” She forced a brief smile and shook his hand before turning her attention back to the Lord, who was talking about his new sage.

“He’s the newest warrior. He’s a bright lad and talented with the long bow. Not as good as you at the lost and short swords, but he getting better and someday we will have to test your talents. What do you say?”

“I would love to my lord. As soon as I return of course.”

“Oh yes dear, I’ve heard, I’m terribly sorry and I wish you the best of luck. Not that you need it, eh?”

“Its still appreciated. I will get though this.”

“You seem to be taking this well. I hope your lady has taught you well enough. We wouldn’t want anything to happen to you, now would we?” An icy voice came from the older man to her right. She would have to describe him as the direct opposite of the man to her left. While he had a soft and friendly smile, this man had on the was callous and mean.

“Maclay be nice.”

“Oh course, Lord. I was just saying I hope she can handle the journey. Many in this temple have not gone past the out lands. I’m just sayings she needs to be careful of the people that inhabit the lands.”

Oh, great now I have to worry about nomads. Or he might be just trying to worry me. Like that would be hard.

As the three men left she couldn't have been happier. Lord Maclay gave her a weird vibe and made the hair on the back of her neck stand up. She had heard several rumors of the infamous Maclay household, but had never met him or any of his family. She was from the northern shrine and he; the southern. The rumors about his family ranged from relations of Manderin Temple to murder. None of the allegations had ever been brought up before the court.

She felt eyes on her and when she turned she saw the concerned gaze of her lady. "How are you child? Truthfully."

"Scared and angry."

"Fear is a positive emotion to feel in this circumstance. You have to know that you can make it through this and that you have the strength to make it. I have taught you well. You are the best sage I have ever had the pleasure to teach." She looks into my eyes her light brown; mine, green.

"Anger. I cannot help you with that. This is your punishment. As much as I wish I could help you, you got yourself into this." She looked at her sadly. The last thing she wanted to do was disappoint her lady.

"I'm sorry." You bring shame to your parents and now to your lady.

"Oh my dear, its okay. One little mistake isn't enough to get rid of me. I love you little one. Come now, we need to pack you have a couple hours." She tried to steer the young girl toward the corridor of stairs.

"A couple hours?" She stopped cold in her tracks when she heard this. "As in two hours?" There's so much I have to do, pack, say good-bye.

She looked down at the tiles that lay under her feet. The tiles that lie the bottom of this room were a warm light blue. But where her feet were touching the blue tiles was turning a blue-green. She looked down at herself she looked the same. Same overly pale legs with the same scar on the back of her calf. Same shorter then short skirt wrap thingy with matching top. There really was nothing different.

"Little one, we must go if you are to be ready by your departure time."

"You sound as if I'm just going to the other side of the temple."

"Two months is not that long of a time. It will be through before you know it." Side by side they started the five hounddred and eighty-seven stair trek back to the main temple. Yep, she counted.

The travel up the stairs seemed faster then the one up. Same amount of stairs but she figured that she was a lot more worried then she was now. She could see the light at the end tunnel.

Great thinking.

As they came to the entrance they saw the vastness of the main temple. The smooth marble accented the many statues. Each deity they prayed to was shown in this temple. They had some other smaller temples in each different sector for someone to pray to a different deity of their choosing.

Many of the main activities happened in this central temple. Bartering, plays, readings, and schools were held in the larger temple and housing was kept within the smaller temples or villages among the temple's grounds. Willow watched as many children played their games, ducking and weaving among the adults. She remembered when she was allowed to be the carefree.

"Would you like to see your parents?" Her lady asked her not really needing the answer but wanting to make sure.

Willow looked over at the bookshop that lay directly in front of them and watched her parents for a brief time. Her dad was a very well made man. He started his business when he was a young adult just finished with his sagedom. He had always provided for their family. His mother was an uptight bitch. To be nice. Nothing Willow ever did was good enough for her.

Her father caught her eye. He looked sad, but he gave her a smile which she returned. She smile at him until his attention was brought away by a potential costumer. She would miss him. "I think we should go before we attract mother's attention."

"Oh, wouldn't want to go without seeing mother, would we?" Her mother appeared in front of her without any warning. She tried to think of any reason or excuse that would allow her to miss talking to her mother.

"No." Her gaze was fixed on the ground as her mother talked to her. Of all the people she had faced in her training and tournaments she still couldn't face her mother. The one person on the face of the earth who could make her feel ten inches tall.

"I was down there. Willow Rosenburg, I have never been more ashamed to be your mother. You have brought so much shame to your family and I hope you know that."

Love you too, mom.

Lady just placed her arm around her charge and together they silently walked back to her room to pack.

How is it? Okay, I really need a beta, is there anyone who can help me?
