Part OneAt the car, before heading for the airport, Sirius stopped Tara from getting in with her sword still attached to her back. “All right, release your harness and put that in this bag.” Sirius instructed, holding out the empty long, narrow bag which Tara just did as instructed. “Okay, you are going to University of California in Sunnydale in two weeks and you would have to go in to ensure that you are all booked in a week before. We have arranged to get you a single room so no one can find out that your true identity. Do you understand, Sunshine?” Sirius asked, eyeing his young student, smirking a little when Tara glared at him when he called her Sunshine. He would call her that just to test her attention span which eventually became a habit for him.
“Yes, I got all that in…” Tara paused then sighed heavily, “I am going to miss you, Sirius and I love you.” With that, she hugged him and began to cry.
Sirius hugged her back and held her, “I know, I am going to miss you too, Sunshine but I have faith in you. I know you will do your best and…” He trailed off, looking skyward for a moment and resumed, “save the world.” He kissed on the top of Tara’s head and waited till she stopped crying and led her to get in the car.
After a long drive into the city, they chatted about everything and all of sudden, Sirius grabbed Tara’s arm and squeezed gently, “Tara, I can’t believe I almost forgot to tell you this, if you have difficulty with finding the Black Rose, you should talk to an old friend of mine from England. His name is Giles Rupert, just mention my name and he will know what you are looking for. I believe he is still residing in Sunnydale at this moment. Here’s the picture of him, it wouldn’t be that hard to miss because his accent, ooh very British, you know.” Sirius chuckled at his own joke which Tara smiled while taking the picture and shoved it in her shoulder bag.
They arrived at the airport and they again hugged tightly before parting to have her luggage checked in and they waved to each other before Tara disappeared in the swarm of people hurrying for their destinations.
*~*~*~*
A loud pounding sound drifted into a sleeping redhead’s ears which woke her up abruptly.
“Jeez!” The redhead cursed, glancing at her alarm clock which read, 6:19 AM. Why didn’t Mom get it?! Until she remembered her parents were away on a business trip and won’t be returning until later in the day. “Who would be here that friggin’ early?!” She mumbled, rubbing away the sleep from her eyes, going down the stairs to reach for the door.
As she opened the door, “Surprise!” shouted by three people standing at the door. Her sleepy mind hasn’t even caught up yet which all she said was, “Huh?”
“Happy 18th Birthday!” A blonde woman said, holding up a hostess cupcake with single candle already light.
“Oh Buffy, did you have to come here that early?!” Willow said with mock anger but very touched by the crazy birthday wake up call, motioning all people inside.
“Happy birthday, Willow.” A spiky haired young man greeted, holding out a bright colored wrapped present.
“Thank you, that’s so sweet of you, Oz.” Willow said with a quick kiss on his cheek.
“Come on, make a wish! I know you don’t like that cupcake but please don’t let the wax get all gooey on it because I want to eat it.” Buffy thrust the cupcake too close to Willow’s face and waited for her to blow it out.
Willow giggled at her best friend and took a deep breath then closed her eyes to create a wish. As she closed her eyes, a voice was so intense in her mind that she gasped but didn’t open her eyes.
Black Rose, you will fulfill your destiny.
Willow opened her eyes and realized that she was lying on her back against the floor and all people were looking back at her very worried.
“Are you all right, Willster?” A brunette young man asked, with genuine concern all over his face.
“What happened?” Willow asked, not wanting to believe what just happened.
“You tell me, you just fainted but Xander caught you before you fell.” Buffy explained.
“I am not really sure but I am okay now, I guess.” Willow began to get up but was being grabbed by Buffy and Xander helping her get up fully. “Ooh…” Willow pouted when she saw that the flame was already out. Buffy looked at what Willow was pouting at and chuckled, “Don’t worry, you were the one who blew it. So guess you made a wish.”
‘A wish? I didn’t think so.’ Willow thought to herself. After thirty minutes passed, Buffy noticed the time and told everyone that she has to go and meet Giles and will meet them for lunch later on.
“Don’t forget to register with me at UC Sunnydale okay.” Willow pointed out.
“Gotcha!” Buffy acknowledged before closing the door behind her. All three jumped when door opened again, Buffy rushed in and grabbed the cupcake, “I almost forgot that! By the way lunch is on me! Bye!”
Turning to her closest friends, Xander and Oz, “I guess, I better get ready to register for college courses and check in for the dorms. Thank you guys for wishing me happy birthday even at 6 in the morning! I love you guys!” Willow hugged both of them at the same time.
“You are very welcome, Willster, ooh I forgot…Me, always a forgetful man!” Xander chuckled, holding out a swirly colored wrapped present. When Willow took it, it felt somewhat heavy and asked him, “What is it?”
“Can you at least open it and find out? You know all that phrase, ‘it’s for me to know and for you to find out?’ that you always taunted me with?” Xander joked.
“Okay okay…I will open it.” Willow said, ripping the paper and gasped when she saw what was revealed. “Elemental Magicks! Wow, I love it! How did you know and no offense, you couldn’t know the difference between a real book to a comic book?”
Xander gasped mockingly, and said, “You know G-man helped me find that. But I am glad that you loved it.”
“Thank you, Xander! I really love it!” Willow hugged her best friend again.
“Okay, don’t forget mine.” Oz spoke up after being quiet since her fainting incident, he was quite worried about her.
“Oh yes, I am gonna open it now.” Willow picked up a smaller sized present and ripped the paper once again and smiled when she saw a DVD of her favorite movie, The Ring. The movie scared the hell out of her when she first watched with her friends at the movie theater and decided it was her all time favorite despite the fact she was faced with real demons practically every night.
“Thanks, Oz! I love it! Now I have a favorite movie on a DVD!” Willow hugged him.
“Now I really need to get ready and I will meet you at lunch okay.” Willow said.
“Okay we will show ourselves out.” Xander said, slapping Oz’s shoulder to follow him along.
Once outside, Oz asked Xander knowing that he has known Willow all his life so he probably knew Willow better than anyone, “Do you think I should ask her out?”
Xander stopped, turned to face his friend and said, “What? You like, you know…like like Willow?”
Oz nodded in confirmation.
“Well…It doesn’t matter what I think but I have known Willow all my life, I really don’t know if she feels the same way about you. But you can ask her to find out for sure.” Xander said carefully.
“Thanks, I think I will soon. Give you a ride?” Oz offered.
“Yeah and thanks.”
Meanwhile back at Willow’s house, as she just finished getting dressed, the phone rang, grabbing it, “Hello?”
“Happy Birthday, Willow!” Two cheery voices blared through the phone which Willow jerked her head away. Knowing it’s safe enough to put the phone against her ear, “Thanks Mom and Dad, what time are you getting in today?”
“We will be in a few hours from now and do you want to have dinner at your favorite restaurant for your birthday?” Her mom asked.
Willow paused for a moment before answering, “Hmm, I want to try this new restaurant called Midnight Sun, it’s Thai.”
“We know that one, I heard it’s really good and okay Midnight Sun it is. See you tonight, dear. We better get going. Don’t forget to register for school okay.”
“Like I would forget, it’s my birthday and I can’t wait to go back to school. See you later. Bye.” Willow put the phone back to its cradle. She reached for the hairbrush and moved to the front of her mirror and began to brush her damp hair. For a second, a woman with fiery red hair with black streaks and her eyes were so dark like pitch black looking back at her. She gasped and closed her eyes and opened them again, the redhead with green eyes, looking back at her. She didn’t realize she was squeezing her hairbrush so hard that her knuckles were white. Willow quickly brushed her hair and picked up her purse and went out.
