Chapter 1 :
She had seen this happen a million times, and with every time, came another bullet from the middle of nowhere, straight through her heart and always left a gaping hole. But this time there wasn't; it was a crater, a giant sweltering chunk of herself,it packed up and left her. So many times she wanted to tell her that she had the most amazing smile, and the deepest eyes in the universe, and even that she had pretty hair, cos hair can be pretty, especially hers, it was the best. With all these abandoned sentences seeking refuge in her mind, what was a girl to do? She couldn't bare it. So many years they spent skipping around each other, flirting, but not? She didn't know, she wasn't sure she cared, all that mattered was right now, this moment in time, where the light left the room and the TV failed to make her smile. Even her single red rose given to her by her beloved seemed to be weeping, falling and dying. Everything reminded her of failure. She really couldn't bare it now. She could go to see friends, but that would mean seeing her. Her.....even a name was too much to say these days. But there was a chance that she wouldn't be around, in fact the biggest chance ever, seeing she would be with that, that thing she calls Jasmine. Was that good or bad? She could go another day without seeing her pain reflected absently through their eyes, together, kissing, hugging, whispering, being 'together' and such...she didn't want to think about 'such', that was emotional suicide right there. Maybe that would be for the best....hmmmm...no wait. What a thought, a selfish and stupid thought. She'd never get to smile at her beloved ever again, never get to link arms with her, or brush her hair, listen to her sing and watch her dance, even see her eat and drink the way she does. So she decided, ring ahead first, see if she was around, call Buffy and arrange for a meet up at the Bronze, and hopefully Anya would be there, she liked Anya, she was always so busy these days though, she reason they grew so far apart, from best friends to just people. People in the same room, watching the same thing, eating the same food, man...she had to patch it all up with Anya, and soon. Knocking her latest thoughts aside, she picked up the phone, and called the slayer.
-Hey it's me....
-I'm fine, you?
-Aww really? well i was wondering if ya wanted to meet up at the Bronze?
-Yeah! grab Anya, i need to to talk to her anyway....oh....
-I mean yeah, sure Willow, and J-Jasmine?
-Oh, when did they get there?
-Okay Buffy, s-see you soon.
She was there. Was this a good idea, to have to watch the redhead smile and not be able to say to she made her happy? Oh god....well at least Anya would be there, she needed her best friend, if she could call her that anymore, she needed her most today, of all days, almost two years since she fell in love with a certain woman, with Willow.....it was going to be interesting, very interesting......
She made her way into the club, feeling the heat radiate off of the dance floor, she didn't dare look over, for she knew who dominated the dance floor, the way Willow moved, so slick yet fast, if you concentrated on her hands you would never seen how fast her feet moved, let alone how fast the sweat poured from her forehead to..to-Jasmine. Ugh, there she is, with her small white tee on, and her 3/4 length pants and hot, she had been dancing. So where was Willow?
"Hey! over here! Buffy! Tara!"
Both women turned their heads in unison to see Xander occupying- or trying to- five seats by spreading his jacket and limbs over the padding.
"Hey Xander, thanks for saving our seats, looks real packed here tonight."
Xander let go of three chairs as he saw Anya descend into the club as she straightened her clothing.
"No problemo m'ladies! hey, what's up with Anya?"
They turned round to see a grouchy ex-vengeance demon coming toward them.
"Oh, well someone decided to bring a stake with them, y'know just in case my slayer abilities suddenly evaporated, and she wanted to feel safe...oh how i missed Anya."
Tara glared at Buffy. Sometimes she didn't quite understand the slayer, sometimes she welcomed Anya with the biggest grin, the next she disliked the way she 'wore her hair' or something. Meh, a jealously issue maybe?
"I don't appreciate the big guys around here, they look so distinguished in their leather jackets, but when they search, they get all perverted, i mean, why did they ask to see my bra anyway? these puppies are real, not ticking time bombs..."
Tara managed to stifle a giggle before pulling out a chair for her friend.
"So....where's Willow and Jazz? they were going to let me dance with them, and i really wanted to be caught in a lesbian sandwich, no offense Tara, but they are both hot!"
Yep, Good old Anya, always knew the right words to say.
"I think they were d-dancing, but i only saw Jasmine, so i don't really know i suppose...."
The dance floor began to lose its capacity as the band died down for an interval.
"So....drinks, who will have what and what will have who?"
All three women said G&T and Buffy went to the bar with Xander, leaving Tara and Anya by themselves.
"So hows the workplace Ahn? Everyone keeping bunnies at bay and what not?"
Anya nodded and cleared her throat.
"Yes! Everyone has successfully kept the bunny run-ins at a minimum, which is hard, seeing as we've just branched out to six other states, i never knew so many people loved naughty lingerie, i mean, the furry stuff especially....."
Tara nodded as if she was hearing a normal, everyday description of a workday.
"And the money?"
"Oh it's great! thanks!" Anya said in all sincerity, she really did love money, it was her addiction, it kept her going.
Both women fell silent now, watching everyone start to fill up the dance floor again.
"And how are you Tara? still lesbian?"
Tara blushed furiously but managed to keep eye contact.
"Y-yes Ahn, only on weekends..." She winked and Anya started to laugh, any lesbian reference and Anya was off on a giddy high.
"And Uni is good? and you still love Willow?"
Tara stopped blushing instantly. She turned from a beetroot to chalk.
"What? Anya i'm not in Lo-"
"Tara, sweetie, if there's one thing i've learned about you, its that you always drift off in your own little world whenever Willow is around, your eyes tell me everything. I am your best friend remember, i should know, i also know when you're thinking about sex, because your ears go red and you-"
"Okay! got it Ahn, no more please! Wow....you couldn't have told me that you knew? i wanted to talk to you, but Jasmine is-is here- Hey!"
Tara forced a smile onto herself as she greeted the woman across the table.
"Hey Tara, Anya..."
"Hello Jasmine. How are you today? still loving Willow?"
Jasmine forced a 'wtf' question to the back of her mind knowing how literal Anya was.
"Yes, more and more each day in fact."
Anya smiled. "How sweet" She said through gritted teeth.
Slowly ascending from behind Jazz, was Willow, parched and sweating furiously.
"Hey hey! has anyone got drinks? i need a drink, cos i can't feel my throat and that means i need a nice cold beverage, wow i'm not shutting up, someone stop me.."
Jasmine turned round at Willow and smiled, wiping off a bead of sweat she kissed her fully, stopping Willow from speaking. Tara sat back and watched it all unfold in front of her, when she felt Anya's hand stroke her own, it was nice knowing someone saw the pain and also understood.
"Hey i'm gonna go grab a couple drinks, Willow the usual?"
"Yeah thanks Jazz."
With that the tall fair haired left for the bar, blowing Willow the smallest of kisses.
"So how are you guys? having fun? you gonna dance?"
Tara smiled sadly, she loved this particular part of Willow, the way she babbled incoherently, to herself most times, but it was Tara's turn to stop Willow this time.
"Um, i don't really feel much like getting my groove on so to speak, i'm feeling a bit icky, but I'm sure Anya wi-"
"Will be sitting here and talking to you because hey look people are dancing really fast now, which means Willow is going to dance now right?"
Willow nodded. "Yup, sure thing, only i need a drink first, keep the energy aflowin'!"
Willow smiled a beam at Tara who in return blushed and flashed her lopsided grin, swearing she saw Willow grip the table as she did so.
"Hey peeps, i'm back with liquid goodness of the alcohol kind, oh Wills, you're back from doing the dancing thing, aww i have no drink here for ya..." Xander frowned.
"Don't worry, Jazz is ordering in, but for now, Tara can have a lil sip of yours?
Tara gladly handed over her drink, watching Willow swallow at least half.
"Oh darn it! I'm sorry Tare, when Jazz brings back mine, tell her i said you can have it!"
Tara's grin turned into a bashful giggle, oh how she loved this petite redhead.Willow trotted off back to the dance floor looking back at Tara once more before walking to the beat the finding a gap in the middle of the gathering.
"Um, i'm gonna head back now guys, i'm feeling a bit light headed, i'll call you in the morning Buffy?"
"Make sure you do! It doesn't matter how much Taekwondo i've taught you, i still worry Tare, now go, sleep, talk to you soon."
"I'm coming with you."
Tara looked at Anya; There was something different about her, it wasn't just her new hair colour either, she seemed more, in tune? socially inept without sounding negative, and it was great, she liked the more mature Anya, she was more caring and considerate.
"Okay Ahn, by Guys." Tara got up and Anya followed. They both got to the Bronze exit when Tara felt a tap on her shoulder.
"Hey, Tara, are you okay? feeling ill? want me to come with?"
The blonde admired Willow's caring nature, not as much as her smile, or her eyes, or her very pretty hair...
"It's okay Will, Anya is-gone. Anya' gone. Where did she go?! did you see her go?" The redhead looked equally puzzled, she also didn't see the ex demon go.
"Oh, well you definitely can't go home by yourself now, are you sure you don't want me to come with?"
"How about Jazz?" Tara asked, hoping not to mention that name too often, yet it was the only topic around Willow for the past few months, kind of ironic really.
"I told her i was coming to check on you silly! it's okay, she's dancing with Xander!"
Both giggled; Xander dancing was like watching a headless chicken trying to run around a poultry section in a supermarket.
"If you w-want, i don't mind."
"Okay good, lets go, back your dorm i assume?"
Tara smiled and nodded.
"Great! lets go."
Willow looped her arms with Tara's and they both started off down the road.
Walking at a very slow pace and engrossed in deep conversation, Willow and Tara carried on along the road, each clutching a small stake close to their chests. The moon appeared full this evening, lolling out the soothing hoot of an owl, chilling Willow to the bone.
"I mean, Owls are nice, but what do they really do? to know they can see in the dark it's kinda nerving, imagine the sites..."
"Yes, all those lil mice, shock horror..."
Willow smiled and subconsciously stroked Tara's arm. The blonde let herself fall into a comfortable place; it was wrong, but she wanted Willow so much.
"So, Tare, have you been, uh, seeing anyone lately?" Willow didn't know why she asked, but felt compelled to ask.
"Oh, um no, no i haven't, why?"
The redhead fluttered her hands around. "I was just asking, sorry, i shouldn't have, not my business, but you know me, mouth doesn't like my brain, and well i should read a manual, get it connected-"
"Willow-manual. Do they make those?"
Willow shook her head and sighed. "Sure don't, but i'll ask Jazz, i'm sure she can fix it, not that she has a special power-i mean through all the training she's had in her psyche class, she should be able to get my brain to agree with my mouth- you should stop me when i do this, cos i really don't know what i'm talking about now."
"Willow-tangents. Chapter 1 of the Willow-manual."
The redhead raised her eyebrow. "You wrote a Willow-manual?"
Tara pulled her arm out of the loop, causing Willow to feel slightly hurt.
"Um, no, i just know you, well, quite well in fact, i don't think i need a book, at least i hope i don't." She started to blush as Willow lowered her head and looked up, giving a piercing sexy look.
"Well in that case maybe you should tea-" Her words were cut by Tara's hand clasped over her mouth.
"Sshh, i hear something, rustling, fast rustling, m-maybe we should walk faster, or head back to the Bronze, get Buffy?"
Willow pulled Tara's hand away from her mouth and held it tight. "S'okay Tare, just carry on walking, if it comes out, we'll be ready." She tried to smile, although now she was worried, Tara could see this; she really didn't have to make a Willow-manual, she could already read what she needed to.
They carried on walking, a little faster this time, but the chatter was still light.
"So uhm, how are you and Jazz?" The blonde didn't wanna ask, yet she wanted to find out, a part of her told her not to, but if there was something lurking in the bushes, she figured she'd take a chance.
"Um..we're okay, i suppose, but to be honest i'm starting to feel , how do i put this without sounding mean....bored? It's not that i don't love her, cos i do," Tara frowned, every time she heard those words spoken by her beloved about any other person but her, the daggers cut deeper in her fragile heart.
"But i don't think i'm in love with her anymore. I don't wanna hurt her, these past months have been fun, she just hasn't got what i need, not the kind of love i want, she's too...perky! its stupid, but i need a gal who is more laid back and comfortable with herself, and she's not."
Inside Tara smiled, on the outside she looked sympathetic, a 'my-heart-is-in-flip-mode' type sympathy.
"Well Will, you can't go on lying to yourself, you'll only hurt her more."
Willow listened carefully, only not to Tara, she felt a presence, but wasn't sure what kind.
"I mean, if it's what you think is best, go for it, i'm behind you 110 per cent!"
Willow stood still this time. She turned round and scanned the bushes holding a stake out to her side.
"Willow whats wrong? what can you see?"
"I can't see anything, i can hear it, can't you?"
Tara shook her head, now standing back to back with the redhead and holding her stake outward. Silence fell for almost a minute as the rustling got louder, they had been found out, something was watching them, waiting, prowling.
"Oh god Tara, i think its a creature! or a really small vampire! oh no.."
"Small?" Tara gulped. "Oh god, someone think of the children..."
Without warning, a small, scary looking, black, furry...dog, jumped out of the bush in front of Willow.
"My fucking God, damn dog! i was gonna stake you, you silly furry cutie! its a Spaniel! Tara its a Spaniel!!"
"Yeah? bored now...."
Willow wavered as she turned round to look at Tara, who was being held hostage, gagged with a cloth and her neck wet from saliva.
"Get off of her! you bitch!"
The vamp smiled, "Hey, me, i missed me....."
