Postby foreverpiper » Wed Sep 17, 2003 1:47 pm

Hey all *Waves* Well i was sitting in bed one night thinking about nothing in particular when an idea poped into my head. So i figured, what the hell, and began writing. That was about two months ago and i've finally decided to post it. Now i know i havent finished Thrill Ride, and i'm not sure if i'll be doing so, as i've come down with a major writers block. For this one however, i've already written 6 or so chatpers that take up 40 pages, along w/ an outline of future chapters, so i'm going a pretty good pace. lol So...without much ado...here ya go. Criticize at will ;)

Title: The Studio

Author: Anna…Piper…whatever

Email: foreverpiper@yahoo.com

Feedback: I love feedback…bring it on!! i'll take anything!

Spoilers: None, completely AU

Summary: Tara is looking to take some kickboxing classes, she meets Willow there…and the rest, as they say, is history.

Disclaimer: Don’t own crap…just this story.

Rating: PG-13

Couples: W/T, X/A

Notes: There is no hellmouth, no vampires, and no horrible nerds in this story…it’s also set in LA…so no Sunnydale.

Chapter One

Tara let out a sigh of relief after the last box was unpacked. She had just moved to LA from New York, trying to begin a new life, away from all that she had left behind. Her past was something she cared to not think about much. Tara McClay was a mystery to some, but invisible to most. Back in New York she had been the person no one really cared much about. She kept to herself and had very few friends. Moving to LA, she hoped to change that. She told herself that she would get away from all that loneliness, find a job, make friends, and start a whole new life. After searching for a few weeks she had found the perfect apartment…cheap, yet spacey and comfortable. But best of all, it was close to this quaint little coffee shop she had fallen in love with just across the street called “Pete’s”.

Getting up, Tara decided it was time to get another cup of coffee, as she hadn’t been there all day, due to unpacking all of her belongings. Placing the last book into the bookshelf she grabbed her keys and set of for caffeineated goodness.

Walking into the door of the Pete’s, she went to her usual table and sat down. About two minutes later, a young man with sandy blonde hair and gentle brown eyes put a steaming mug of coffee in front of her.

“Thanks Charlie.” She said, glancing up at him and giving him a grateful look.

“No problem Tar.” He winked charmingly, before walking away to take someone else’s order.

She had made friends with Charlie about 3 days after she had come to LA. He was funny, charming, and possibly one of the best listeners Tara had ever come to meet. At 19 years old he was working this job to get himself through college, and even though he was 4 years younger than Tara the two understood each other perfectly. You could sit there and spill out your heart to him for hours, and unlike most people, he’d actually listen…and Tara was so grateful to have a friend like him.

After he’d finished bringing food to the couple next to Tara, he pulled a chair and plumped himself across from her. Tara smiled at him. “What’s up?” she asked him.

He grinned. “Now that you mention it, I found something that may spark your interest.” He pulled a newspaper clipping out of his pocket and slid it across the table.

She looked at him and read the headline out loud, “Sunny Delight or Sunny Fright: What you didn’t know was in your breakfast drink.” She raised an eyebrow, amused.

Charlie shook his head and rolled his eyes, “The other side!”

Tara turned it over and read the article. She looked up. “Kickboxing?”

He beamed.

“What makes you think I’d be interested in taking kickboxing classes?”

“Well you always said you wanted to get involved in something…this is perfect! And it’s only a block away from here so after your classes you can come and tell me all about it!”

Tara just looked at him.

“Oh come on Tara! Just promise me you’ll give it a try.” He looked at her with pathetic eyes, “Please? For me?” He made his lip give an exaggerated tremble.

Tara chuckled.

“Come on, just go there after your coffee and check the place out. Maybe you’ll find some gorgeous babe there, eh?” He waggled his eyebrows.

Tara laughed, “Alright! Alright! You’ve convinced me!”

“Aha!! I new the babe thing’d get you to check it out!” He grinned.

She shook her head; “I’m only doing it so you’ll get off my case.” She stuck her tongue out at him and took the last swig of her coffee.

Charlie laughed. Tara started to get her money out of her pocket but Charlie just shook his head. “It’s on the house if you go now.” He grinned.

“Fine!” Tara laughed, and walked over to the door, “But if I end up missing my interview…!” He laughed as she walked out the door, before picking up her empty coffee cup and bringing it to the back to get washed.

***

Looking at the newspaper clip still clutched in her hand she read over it again. It sounded interesting to say the least, and she was looking to meet new people. ‘I guess I can give it a try.’ Glancing down at the clipping again, she checked the address. ‘There it is.’ She stopped and looked up at the studio. ‘Doesn’t look too bad.’

Opening the door she looked around to find a person she could talk to. The studio wasn’t at all what she expected to find. It had a ring on the far left corner with piles of sparring gear next to it. There were gloves of all sizes, kneepads, elbow pads, chest covers, headgear, mouthpieces, and some things that Tara had never seen before. To the right of the ring she could see 2 punching bags hanging from the ceiling and in front of the ring she saw 2 more movable punching bags by the gear, probably used for kicking exercises.

A huge mirror covered the right wall opposite of the ring and gear and Tara could see an open space that surely lead into another room.

“In here!” She heard a female voice coming from the open door a few feet in front of her and to her right that was undoubtedly the studio office. Tara took a few paces and found herself staring at the most beautiful thing she had ever set her eyes on. Her breath caught, and she could feel her heartbeat picking up. ‘Oh my God.’ The girl had fiery red hair and the most stunning green eyes she had ever seen.

“Can I help you?” The gorgeous girl asked, looking up. ‘Wow. Wait, wow? Why am I wowing? I’ve never wowed before…’ The girl thought.

Tara shook her head to clear her thoughts, “Hi.” She blinked.

“Hi.” The girl said, smiling. Ok Will…be cool.

‘Say something!’ Tara scolded herself. “Um, yes, I-I was thinking about taking some lessons. A friend of mine told me to come and check this place out…and, well, I can’t really refuse him anything.” She gave a nervous laugh. ‘Stupid!’ Tara thought. ‘I can’t really refuse him anything? What’s wrong with me?’ She slapped herself internally.

The redhead beamed, “Well I’m glad you came to check us out. Well, what kind of classes were you thinking of taking?”

“Um…I’m not really sure.” ‘Oh my God, she’s going to think I’m a total loony!’

“Well let me just show you what classes we offer. Feel free to ask any questions.” She pulled out a piece of paper with time schedules and the classes they offered. Tara took the paper. “It’s kind of slow today. We just opened up two weeks ago and we’re just getting started.” The redhead smiled again, showing off pearly whites, “Willow…uh, Willow is me.” She gave an embarrassed chuckle, “Willow Rosenberg.”

‘Willow…it suits her.’ Tara grinned. “Tara McClay.”

Tara.’ Willow thought. ‘I like it.’ She grinned.

Tara looked at the sheet in your hand and looked up at Willow, “What would you suggest?”

“Hmm…well that depends on what you’re interested in. The beginner classes for adults are kickboxing, fitness kickboxing and grappling. But then there’s also women’s body sculpting, which is pretty much just lifting weights to tone up the body…not that you need it, cause well...look at you…” She gulped. ‘I so didn’t just tell her that she was hot…’

Tara blushed. She thought for a moment, “Well kickboxing sounds pretty fun…I could do that. Are the trainers nice? Or are they like drill sergeants?”

Willow laughed then explained, “Buffy, that’s the adult trainer, is really nice. We’ve been best friends for a while now, and Mr. Giles, her dad, owns the shop. I’m the only one here now though. I’m the website coordinator. There’s also Xander, another of my best friends and he’s the children’s instructor, his wife Anya, she handle’s all our finances, and then Dawn, Buffy’s sister. She doesn’t really work here but she’s always around helping out after school…when schools in, that is…but hey,” she laughed and shrugged, “summer!”

Tara smiled.

“Sounds like a nice little family you guys have.”

“It is,” Willow smiled. There was a lot of smiling going around. Things were silent for a moment until Tara broke the silence.

“So the kickboxing classes are Monday, Wednesday and Thursday at 7:00 – 8:00?” She asked, consulting the sheet and looking up for conformation.

Willow nodded. “Yep, that’s right. And the cost is really cheap too…only fifty dollars a month. I know it may sound kinda expensive, but most places can get up to one hundred fifty a month. So…” Willow shrugged and gave a sheepish smile.

Tara laughed.

Tara clapped her hands together, “Well, where do I sign up?” She beamed.

Willow got out the papers quickly and handed them to Tara. “You can start whenever you’d like to. I’m guessing you’re over 18 right?” Willow blushed. ‘I’m guessing your over 18? What am I saying!? Or course she’s over 18!’

Tara laughed and nodded, “Yes, I’m 24.”

Willow lighted up, “I thought so…not about the you being 24 cause how would I know that? Just about the being over 18.” She chuckled nervously, “Heh, sorry…sometimes I tend to babble.” ‘Why must I always make a fool out of myself! She’s gonna think I’m a freak or something.’

She is so cute!’ Tara thought, grinning. “That’s ok…I do it sometimes too. I think it’s cute.” Tara regretted the words as soon as they came out of her mouth. Her eyes widened. ‘Why did I say that!? Now she’s gonna think you’re some sort of freak.’

Willow blushed. “Well I’m glad I’m not the only one to babble then! Now there can be two of us!” ‘She called me cute! …Yay!’

Tara looked at her watch, “Oh shoot…I’ve gotta run. I have a job interview to get to in about 30 minutes and I’ve got to go change.” She stood up. “Could I fill these out and bring them back on Monday?”

Willow nodded and stood up as well, “Ya sure can. Are you going to start classes the same day? You can if you want, I’ll just tell Buffy to expect another student.” She winked playfully.

Tara laughed, “Yeah, that’d be great.”

Willow smiled, “Well it was nice to meet you Tara McClay.” She moved to shake Tara’s hand.

Tara accepted it gladly. ‘Wow, she’s so soft.’ They released hands. “And it was nice to meet you Willow Rosenberg.” Willow’s heart skipped a beat when she felt her hand connect with Tara’s.

Tara gathered the paperwork she’d need to complete before walking out the door, turning to look at Willow one last time. “See you Monday.”

“Bye!” Willow called as she walked out the door. She stared after Tara. ‘Is it Monday yet? Wait, why am I all of a sudden so anxious for it to be Monday? Its no big deal…she’s just a girl…a nice, pretty, beautiful – wait! Stop right there! She’s a girl! You don’t like girls!’ The conversation in Willow’s head went on for a while…but that didn’t stop her from wanting the next 2 days to go by like a wildfire.

***

‘Wow.’ Tara looked at her hand once she was outside. It was still warm from her handshake with Willow. ‘I’m never gonna wash this hand again.’ She was in such a happy mood she almost skipped back to her house to change for her interview. ‘I’ve got to thank Charlie one day.’

One thing was for sure though…she couldn’t wait till Monday.

I see the potential for sweaty, heavy breathing scenes... and that's just with the kickboxing! I try to sound sort of sexy, and it just comes out awkward. Oh well. I'll just stick to what I'm good at.

I like the concept and the pacing. And Willow's well, Willowisms. And her internal monologue. Thanks for sharing this. It's going to be a fun one! I can tell already.

Chapter Two

Tara was still smiling as she walked into the coffee shop and plopped down at her usual table. It only took a few moments before Charlie sat in the opposite seat with two mugs and a pot of coffee.

His eye’s sparkled, “So…how’d it go?”

Tara didn’t acknowledge his presence, but kept staring into space, thoughts filled with a redheaded goddess. Charlie snapped his fingers in front of her face.

Snapping out of it she looked at him for the first time. “Huh?”

“The job interview? From the smile on your face I take it went well.”

She shook her head and waved her hand, “Oh God no, I messed up horribly. Kept saying the wrong things, tripped on my way out the door and to top it off, I think I broke the guys toe when I accidentally dropped a stapler on it.” She beamed.

Charlie looked confused. “Oookay.” He drew out the word, “Then why the happy Tara?”

“No reason.”

“You’ve got to be kidding…you know me well enough to know I’m not going to let you get away with that! Come on Tar! You were really excited about this interview!”

“I was…” Tara admitted, “Until I realized that an assistant banker wasn’t exactly what I wanted to do with my life.” She winked at him.

“Then what’s with the happy?” He asked, puzzled. Suddenly, he understood, “You met someone didn’t you?” He beamed and waggled his eyebrows. “Where? Who? Name? Tell all, and spare no details.”

Tara hesitated, knowing she’d never get out of this one. “Her name’s Willow. And I met her…” She cringed; knowing once she’d let this information out she’d never hear the end of it. It would be ‘I knew it’s’ and ‘I told you so’s’ forever. “I met her at that kickboxing place.”

He banged his hand on the table, causing the coffee pot to move and several people to turn their heads, “I knew it!!!”

Tara sighed. ‘And so it begins…’

“Well?” He prodded, “Is that it? Come on there’s gotta be more than that!”

“God Charlie, she’s the most gorgeous thing I’ve ever seen. She’s got this red hair, and these eyes! You should see her eyes…the deepest green I’ve, oh! And her smile…” Tara trailed off. “It makes her whole face light up.”

Charlie’s eyes widened, “Wow girl. You’ve got it bad.”

Tara shook her head, “I know, I know…kinda ridiculous isn’t it.” She chuckled, “I only just met her today and already she’s cluttering my mind.”

Charlie grinned.

***

“Hey Will.” Buffy said as she walked into the studio and hurled her stuff into a corner. “Anything terribly interesting happen while I was gone?”

Willow looked up from her computer. ‘No, of course not Buffy…I only just met a Goddess…ugh, why do I keep thinking these things? I only met her today! And I’m not even like that. Get a grip on yourself Will!’

“Nope…oh one thing though! A girl came in today…our age, looked interested in the kickboxing class. Her name’s Tara and she’s coming in on Monday.” Willow told her.

Buffy nodded, “Cool. Now our class number is up to two.” She laughed and held up her fingers.

“Don’t worry Buff,” She winked, “It’s only been two weeks…we’ll get more people soon.”

She sighed, “God I hope so.” She looked around, “And the place doesn’t look to shabby for a place that was in the dumps five months ago.”

Willow nodded. “Oh, I almost forgot to tell you,” She pointed at the computer she was working on, “The websites almost finished. I’ve just got to upload some pictures of the place on here.” She beamed, “Once it’s done I’m gonna send the link to some people I know…and if they can’t get it around, nobody can.”

Buffy hugged her, “What would I do without ya Will?” She asked playfully.

Willow shrugged and laughed. She saved the file she had been working on and shut down the computer. Getting up from her chair, she stretched and cracked her back a few times before letting out a long sigh of comfort, “Oh that feels good.”

Buffy cringed, “I don’t know how you can do that.” She shuddered. “Well lets get going. We’ve got the whole weekend ahead of us.”

Willow grinned, “Ah yes, two days of nothing but sleep, TV, and well…more sleep.”

“Can’t forget the eating,” Buffy said, giving her a stern look.

“Oh of course not…eating is one of the biggest parts,” She nodded vigorously.

They laughed for a few seconds before turning off the lights, typing in the code to the security system and locking the doors.

Buffy could have had no way of knowing that Willow was looking forward to Monday a hell of a lot more than eating and sleeping.

***

The weekend went by relatively fast, which Tara had, at the time, thought was a good thing. Sooner the weekend goes by the sooner she’d get to see Willow. Of course, when the time actually presented itself to get ready, she couldn’t think of anything to wear. It was safe to say that Tara McClay was thoroughly confused. She didn’t know why she wanted to make a good impression…it wasn’t like she was going on a date, quite the contrary, she was going to work out, get sweaty, but still…

Finally she decided to just go along with regular work out clothes. After pulling on a white shirt and some light weigh sweats she looked at herself in the mirror. She pulled her hair into a long ponytail and sighed, “Guess this’ll just have to do.”

***

Willow looked up anxiously at the clock. 6:53. ‘Damn clock…it’s like time’s stopped.’

“What’s up Will?” Xander asked, plopping down on a chair opposite Willow. “That’s like the eighth time you’ve looked at the clock the last 25 seconds.” He laughed, “Waiting for someone are you?”

“No!” Willow said…a tad too quickly.

Xander looked taken aback for a moment before composing himself, “Whoa there! Down girl, just asking a simple question.” He couldn’t resist, “Your waiting for someone aren’t cha?” Xander grinned.

Willow threw a paper clip at him, “No I’m not.” She stuck her tongue out at him. They heard a bell ring, signaling someone had walked through the door. Willow straightened up a bit and quickly ran her fingers through her hair and tried not to think about why she was trying to look good for this girl she’d only met once in her life.

Xander turned and gasped, mouth dropping open. He shut it quickly and stood, offering his hand, “Hi.” He said, grinning, “You must be Tara.”

Tara nodded, taking his hand. “And I’m assuming your…Xander? Right?”

“Good memory,” Willow piped up. ‘Wow, she’s even hot in work-out clothes.’

Tara looked over at Willow, “Hey Willow, nice you see you again.” ‘Oh lord, please don’t let me drool.’

“And you,” Willow said, beaming. ‘She remembered my name…woo hoo!’

Buffy strolled into the office, “Hey Will, do you have -?” She looked up and noticed a new someone in the room, “Oh, hey. Tara right?”

Tara nodded.

Buffy held out her hand, “Hey, I’m Buffy. You’ll be working with me today. There’s only one other person in the class though, so it may be a little slow.”

Tara smiled, “It’s ok with me! Slow can be good sometimes.” Tara’s mind wasn’t processing much of anything…her thoughts where still on how dazzling Willow was looking.

Willow grinned at the comment. She didn’t know why, but she was beginning to get that most anything that came out of the blonde’s mouth could make her smile.

“Well, we better get started.” Buffy said, winking at Tara before walking out of the office and began to set up equipment. “Get ready to sweat,” She called.

Tara pointed her finger at the door and looked to Willow, “Well, I guess I’d better get…”

Willow nodded, “Have fun. Buffy’s gonna make you work.” She winked.

Tara laughed and turned to Xander, “Nice to meet you.”

“You too,” He gave her a charming smile. ‘Wow, she’s hot.’

Tara left the office and went to go join Buffy and another young man who was also taking the class.

Xander turned to Willow and his eyes widened, whistling softly. “Damn!” He whispered.

Willow slapped him playfully on the shoulder, “Xander! I’m telling Anya.” She stuck her tongue out, even though she was thinking pretty much the exact same thing as him.

“You’re telling me what?” Anya asked. She had just walked through the front door and came walking into the office, rifling through bills she had in her hands. Willow said nothing.

She looked up expectantly. “…well?”

Willow shook her head, “Nothing.”

Anya shook her head and sighed, “Whatever.” She was too busy flipping through her bills to care much. She threw them down onto the table and let out a frustrated sound.

“What’s up Ahn?” her husband asked.

“These bills!” She glared at them, “They’re all stupid, taking away our valuable earnings. Who needs electricity anyway?” She waved the electric bill and threw it back down in a head. “And air-conditioning and heat…pfft.” She waved her hand, “Completely unnecessary.” She stood up, going over to the cooler and getting out a diet coke. She looked into the room where Buffy was teaching her class and saw Tara.

Her eye’s widened. “Damn.” She said, looking her up and down.

Xander pointed, “See! That’s what I said!”

Anya glared at him and he put his hands up, “Hey!” He pointed at her, “You said it too.”

Willow watched the exchange with a tiny smirk on her lips. Anya noticed this, “Oh don’t think I don’t know you’re not thinking the exact same thing.” She spat. Anya had thought Willow was gay from the moment she’d met her, though Willow denied it every time. “You’re probably undressing her with your eyes this very moment!”

Xander got a clouded, far off look in his eyes.

Willow rolled her eyes, trying very hard not to imagine what Anya had just said, “Anya, how many times do I have to tell you…I’m not a lesbian.” Anya just pursed her lips together.

“Mmhmm…whatever you say Ellen.”

Willow didn’t even bother to argue this time. She was too busy watching Tara do her warm up exercises. ‘Hmm…ya know…I wouldn’t really mind getting a work out 3 times a week…and hey, it doesn’t really look that hard…I wonder if Buffy’d mind if I tried it out sometime…naw, of course she wouldn’t.’ Her eye’s glazed over as Tara began jumping rope. She vaguely remembered that Buffy had once told Xander to let the kids jump rope before or during every class because it’d get their cardio up, though right now, the only thing filling her mind was that every time Tara jumped up, certain…assets of hers did a little jumping of their own. ‘Willow!! Stop it! You’re turning into Xander!’ She physically forced herself to look away. Shaking her head, she went back to working on her program, her mind not at all with the task she was attempting to perform, but with it of Tara…and her two great jumping attributes.

Hey there :)

You had me LMAO with the interaction between Anya and Willow. It's just too funny that she denies that she is a lesbian and then gets competely distracted by Tara's "jumping assets".

It was a great update :applause

Keep the updates coming please :bounce

Liked the update? More like loved! :)

The interaction between W/T is really sweet, and Willow fixating on Tara's *ahem* 'assets' was hilarious. From Anya's comment about Willow, I'm guessing she hasn't told them that she's gay yet? With Tara around, I doubt Willow will be able to keep it a secret for long... ;)

Well this should be fun, Tara all sweaty and Willow drooling in her mind... without being sure what to do about it :D

I'm still puzzled as to WHY Tara went to take kickboxing lessons though. I know Charlie mentioned it to her, but why ?? I suppose it can't hurt for a shy person like Tara to learn some self-defense in a city like LA, she seems more the type to run away from a fight however...

It sooo fun to see both Tara and Willow not thinking about anything else but each other :-) Heck, even Anya looked at Tara with a suspect look, heh... :D

Sappho: :grin hee! Anya rocks! :grin

Grimlock72: Well, the reason Tara was going to take the kickboxing classes was cause she was just getting to New York, and she didnt really know anyone and wanted a hobby there...hence charlie suggested kickboxing :grin so its not neccisarily for self defense purposes, thought that is a perk, but more like something to do for fun :) ...does that make any sence? *shurgs* lol

Modjadji: now my writing's givin people warm fuzzle glows! whoo hoo!! :dance right on!

sam darls: :grin well i'm gald you're liking it!! more now :wink

Chapter Three

And hour later it was safe to say that Tara had worked up quite the sweat. Her face was beat red, there were sweat spots on her shirt, her shirt and pants were sticking to her legs and her hair was completely matted to her head. She looked at her reflection in the wall mirror and laughed. ‘God, I look awful.’

Buffy came over to Tara and patter her on the back, “You did a good job today! Not everyone can keep up on their first day.” She grinned and cocked her head playfully, “Told ya I’d make ya sweat.”

Tara laughed, “Yeah, well…” she plucked her at her shirt and indicated some of the sweat spots, “I think it’s safe to say you succeeded.” Tara and Buffy had clicked instantly. Rarely did Tara ever feel this comfortable around a stranger…in fact, all the people here were really nice.

Buffy laughed, “Yeah, well,” She shrugged, “I do try.”

Tara shook her head and dabbed her face with the towel she’d brought along. “You got water here?”

Buffy pointed over her shoulder, jabbing a finger at the office. “’S in the fridge, we usually charge a dollar for it, but since you did so good, it’s on the house.” She nudged her and winked, “But don’t expect it to be all the time.”

Tara chuckled, “Oh don’t worry. I wouldn’t dream of it.”

Tara went into the office and stopped when she saw Willow, suddenly becoming nervous once more…nervous, but still excited non-the-less. ‘Oh God…Willow’s still here…I look horrible!’ She panicked.

Willow smiled upon seeing who’d entered the office. ‘Wow, even when she’s all sweaty she’s gorgeous.’ “Hey.”

“H-hey,” Tara stuttered, “Um…Buffy said I could get a water. She said it was on the house.”

Anya, whose attention had been focused on the bills in front of her, jerked her head up. “On the house? Oh,” She shook her head, “Oh. Oh no, nothing is ever on the house! Where is Buffy, I’m going to show her a thing or two about fighting if she’s just handing out drinks whenever she damn well pleases.” She stomped out of the room, fully intending to give Buffy a piece of her mind.

Willow got up and went to the fridge and got out a bottle of ice-cold water. “Buffy must like you to have to face Anya,” Willow laughed, handing it to Tara. ‘I know I do…

Tara reached into her pocket to get out a dollar, she began handing it to Willow but Willow stopped her hand with her own. “Don’t worry about it.”

Tara looked anxious, “Are you sure? I-it’s no problem. I wouldn’t want you to have to face the wrath of Anya.”

Willow shook her head, “Naw, its fine. Anya just goes a little overboard with her money. I’ll get it for ya,” She took a dollar out of her own pocket and put it into the brightly colored box at the edge of Anya’s desk that spelled, in overly bright pink, red, and yellow colors “THE MONEY”.

“You don’t have to do that,” Tara said, still holding her dollar in her hand.

“No it’s fine,” Willow waved her hand at Tara, “Besides, you deserved it for making it out of one of Buffy’s classes without collapsing.”

Tara grinned, “Thanks.”

“No problem,” Willow said, a wide grin spreading over her face.

***

Three weeks later Tara was enjoying herself more than she had in a long, long time. Even Charlie had noticed a considerable difference in her attitude since she’d begun.

This particular day was hotter than normal, and even worse, the AC had broken down, causing the stuffy room to become even more humid, along with more than a few colorful phrases from Anya about what it’s going to cost to fix the ‘stupid air box’.

They were taking a 5-minute break because it was so hot. Tara took a swig of water before stepping into the office where Willow was currently residing…and in front of a high-powered fan no less. Tara pulled up a chair and parked herself by Willow so she could also feel the cool air. Over the last couple weeks she’d gotten less nervous around Willow and more playful, as if they had been friends for years.

“So,” Tara said after taking a swig of water. “Why aren’t you out there sweating with the rest of us?” She raised an eyebrow and Willow blushed.

“Are you kidding? It’s like 200 degrees in there!” She laughed.

Tara rolled her eyes, “Not always!”

“And you get all sweaty…” Willow shuddered.

Tara chuckled, “Yeah, well…” She shrugged, “You can’t help that.”

Oh Tara…’ Willow thought, ‘I’ll give you something to sweat about.’ She shook her head inwardly. ‘I’m a bad, bad person.’

She took a deep breath. “Well actually…I was going to start up next class,” Willow replied. ‘…So long as you’re with me, I’d join just about anything.

Tara beamed and started to say something but was cut off by Buffy.

“You were, huh?” Buffy asked, stepping into the office and standing beside Tara.

Willow gritted her teeth and gave Buffy a stern look, “Yes Buffy, I was.” She looked at Tara; “Actually I’ve been considering it for a while now…” She glared at her best friend. “I was just waiting for someone I could talk to in it besides Buffy here…and now that most of my assignments for my Computer Company are done I’ve found I’ve had a bunch of free time on my hands.”

Grinning, she added, “Besides,” She jabbed her finger at her best friend, and then put her hand up to mimic a stage whisper, “I think she’s got a little somethin’ somethin’ for that Rich guy in your class…I just didn’t want to intrude on the mini love fest.” She winked at Tara and went back to her normal voice, ignoring the furious look Buffy gave her, “So now that I have someone to take the class with, it’ll be just hunky dory.”

Tara’s heart leapt. Willow was going to take the class with her. Willow wanted to take the class with her. She beamed. “I’ll be glad to actually have someone to get in trouble with then.”

Willow nodded. Grinning, she put back up her hand for another stage whisper, “That way when we have to pair up, me and you can go together and leave Rich to deal with Buffy…” She grinned, “Poor guy.” Willow and Tara promptly busted out laughing at the look of pure fury etched on every pore upon Buffy’s face.

Tara snickered as Buffy’s face went from red to even redder. Her eyes bulged out and if she looked closely enough it looked as if a vein was threatening to burst near her temple, “Willow!” she scolded in a harsh whisper as she shoved a thumb behind her to where Rich was chatting with Xander, “He’s right there!!” She added in a strangled whisper.

Willow and Tara were gasping for air, which Buffy found completely unamusing. She glared at the duo still laughing at her. She pointed to Tara, “I’m gonna work you out so hard your next class you won’t be able to lift a finger without breaking out into a sweat.” Tara sobered down quickly, which only caused Willow to laugh harder. Buffy turned, “And you!” She glared daggers, “I’m gonna sick Anya on you!” Willow paled and quickly mumbled an apology. Tara smirked and laughed lightly at Willow’s pout. ‘My God could this woman be any cuter?’ As soon as Buffy had turned her back to them Willow glanced at Tara gave her a playful wink.

Yes…yes she can.
