New AU fic - Love on the seas

Postby missspangles » Wed Jun 18, 2003 9:44 pm

Well, while I'm waiting for inspiration to strike re: my other fic, I thought I'd have a go at another alternative universe type fic. I'm sure this idea has already been taken, but hey, I haven't come across it and I thought I'd see what I could do with it.

So here' s the story. This fic is set in April 1912 on-board the ill-fated maiden voyage of the Titanic (see what I mean about being sure that someone else must have used this idea) and alternative universe Willow and Tara are on the ship (with a lot of other people from the Buffyverse). But remember I like happy endings, so everything will be okay..honest :)

As for rating this, well, mostly PG13 I think..but things will certainly heat up later. I'll give plenty of warning for the more R rated bits though.

And the disclaimer part, I don't own any of the characters, they're the property of Joss Whedon and I'm just borrowing for a little while. (Or James Cameron or whoever else I've borrowed from) :) And feedback is very actively encouraged. So on with the story.

Love on the Seas

Chapter One

Tara Maclay sighed with resignation and stared at the floor. She noticed with a vague sort of interest that even the floors of the first class cabins had incredibly plush carpets and throw rugs. When her father got on to the subject of her selecting a suitable husband, he was really, really unbearable. She kept looking at the floor and tried to tune him out.

"You're not getting any younger you know Tara. And you are from one of the South's most prominent..most well-respected..."

Tara couldn't resist softly interupting "and just about bankrupt.."

Mr Maclay pretended he hadn't heard and continued. "..families...and there are some extremely suitable gentlemen on board that you can be matched up with...."

Tara sighed again. It was going to be a long afternoon and the ship had only pulled out of port at Southampton ten minutes ago.

"Yes father..." she trailed off and tried to focus on the impressive paintings hanging on the wall.

______________________________________________

Meanwhile, five cabins down, Willow Rosenberg was frantically trying to remake a bed.

A stuffy woman, clad in a fur coat that was probably worth at least a decade of Willow's salary kept complaining.

.."And I specifically told them that the sheets had to be pink...it's simply not good enough to come in here and find that I've been given ordinary white sheets..."

The woman shook her head with disgust and repeated again.."ordinary white sheets..."

Willow again apologised and tried to tuck in the new pink sheets for the woman.

What a job, Willow thought to herself. Spending fourteen hours a day at the beck and call of every rich snob on board this ship. But still, she thought to herself, it'll get me to New York in America, the land of opportunity where things'll be different..I can do this!

She grimaced and apologized again.

_______________________________________________

Several hours later, Tara joined her father and her brother Donald, or Donnie as he was known to differentiate him from her father, Donald senior, for their evening meal.

"I've heard the food on board is going to be incredible" announced Mr Maclay as he walked several steps ahead of Tara and her brother.

He turned around to appraise his children. Donnie had dressed himself up in a dinner suit and Tara was wearing a gorgeous light green dress. Both of his children knew that the purpose of this trip was to find suitable partners, ones who knew of the Maclay family's status as one of the south's finest families, but hopefully not too much about their recent financial troubles.

"Oh good" exclaimed Mr Maclay with smug self-assurance. "It's the Harris family. And Tara...you know what I've told you about Alexander Harris...He could be just the sort of gentleman..."

He trailed off as he led his children over to the table occupied by the Harris family.

"Mr and Mrs Harris?" beamed Mr Maclay. "Donald Maclay and my children, Donald Jrn and Tara. I believe we had the pleasure of meeting at that delightful party thrown last summer by the Mr and Mrs Douglas-Jennings."

"Oh yes!" exclaimed Sam Harris merrily, "I remember it well. Please, sit, join us!"

Sam Harris, and his wife, Mary Harris, both had quite extreme drinking problems and if the truth was to be told, didn't remember meeting Donald Maclay at all. But it was clear that he was from the right social class and the Douglas-Jennings were certainly a good family to know.

"Why thank you" said Donald Maclay, sitting down.

Donnie also sat himself down.

Noticing that no-one else at the table seemed to have any semblance of mannners, Alexander stood up and pulled out a chair for Tara.

She smiled shyly at him. "Thank you.."

The truth was that Alexander Harris was a handsome man, with dark hair and eyes and a nice smile. He had a gentle air about him as well.

But there's nothing there, thought Tara to herself glumly. There never is. Sometimes Tara wondered if she'd ever meet someone who'd make her feel the way the characters in her books did, who made her pulse spped up, her heart beat extra dizzy. I guess not, she thought to herself.

But despite noticing right away that there was no spark between her and Alexander, Tara did manage to enjoy the meal more than she usually would have. Firstly because it was a relatively intimate dining experience. Tara hated sitting at crowded tables full of high society people. They were usually so very boring and self-obsessed. And secondly, because her father and Donnie were focused on impressing Mr and Mrs Harris and were content to leave her alone.

But after coffee had been served, Mr Maclay, Donnie and Mr Harris decided that it was time for Port and cigars.

"I'm going to go talk to some of the ladies I think" announced Mrs Harris quite pompously. "Would you care to accompany me Tara?"

"No" interupted Alexander quite strongly. "Tara, would you like to accompany me for a walk on the deck?"

Mr and Mrs Harris both looked thrilled. "Why that sounds like a capital idea Alexander, go, take Tara for a walk, take your time."

As almost an after thought, Mr Harris glanced over at Tara's father. " But only if that's quite alright with you Mr Maclay?"

"Of course it is!" exclaimed Mr Maclay. "Go on you two, have a walk around. I hear it's lovely up there."

Tara blushed furiously. Didn't her father realise how embarassing it was when he tried to marry her off quite so obviously.

"Wonderful" declared Alexander, helping Tara out of her seat and holding out his arm. "Shall we?"

______________________________________________

Ten minutes later, Alexander and Tara had made it to the observatory.

"Thanks ever so much for agreeing to come up here with me" said Alexander. "I hope you won't mind but I must confess, I had an ulterior motive..."

Oh no! though Tara. I hope he's not going to...

Alexander continued. "It's just that...look Tara, you're a swell girl and I get the feeling I can trust you...can I?"

Tara nodded slowly, feeling puzzled. Where was this going?

"Great" said Alexander, lighting himself a cigarette. "It's like this..basically, when the ship was at Port, i got to know a girl...a great girl, so much fun, she's just so forthright, says exactly what's she's thinking..and she's gorgeous, smart...perfect..."

"Well that's wonderful" said Tara, a smile lighting up her face, now that she was confident Alexander hadn't tried to get her alone to seduce her.

"Isn't it?" smiled Alexander. "But Tara, you might have noticed that my parents...they're kind of obsessed with class, with the right sort of people as they call them.."

Tara nodded sympathetically. "I know exactly what you mean. My father..he's exactly the same..trying to marry me off to a gentleman, god, it's so embarassing.."

Alexander nodded. "Tell me about it. But this girl, Anya's her name, she's on board. I got her a job on the Titantic, so that she could come to America to be with me. Only my parents don't know that.." he trailed off and ground down his cigarette.

"Tara, I'm in love with Anya. I need to see her. And I thought that, if you came with me, that my parents would leave me be for tonight at least..I hope you don't mind..that I've kind of used you..but I kind of get the impression that you're happy to be away from your family too..."

Tara smiled. "Is it that obvious? So what's the plan? How are you going to see Anya?"

"Well" said Alexander. "Stealth is the key. I'm going to go down to her quarters, they always have more fun down there anyway. Want to come?"

"I-I" Tara began. She was nervous at the thought of going down there but then again, how often did she get the chance to escape the clutches of her father and brother?

"Let's go" she said with determination and not the slightest trace of a stutter.

_______________________________________________

It hadn't taken Alexander long to find Anya, and as soon as Tara saw the two of them together, she knew that Anya was as in love with Alexander as he was with her. It was really very sweet.

There was a lot of action happening around them. Several card tables had been set up and there were some 'borrowed' bottles of various sorts of alcohol doing the rounds.

Tara perched on a bench with Anya as Alexander wandered off to get them both a drink. She frowned though as she heard some yelling in the corner.

She lifted her head and looked over in the direction of the noise. A tall man had a small, thin girl with red hair backed against a wall.

"What? You think you're too good for me or something Rosenberg? You're just a maid you know?...And I think that it's about time you give me a litle something..a little comfort maybe..." he leered at her. "That'll teach you who's in charge here..."

Tara jumped up. "Hey" she declared, tapping the larger man on the arm. "What's going on here?"

"Well, well, well" declared the intoxicated man. "What've we got here...an upper-class woman slumming it for the evening? Even better! Want to learn what it's like to be with a real man?"

"Hey!" yelled the red-haired girl. "You leave her alone! You bully!"

"Oh, a bully am i?" declared the man. "Maybe I'll just have to teach the both of you a lesson?"

And then, before the man could continue, he was knocked to the ground with a killer punch.

"I don't think they want to learn that lesson" declared the man's assailant, a tiny blonde girl.

"Oh my god!" exclaimed Tara, turning to face the slight blonde girl.."Thank you! But how did you...?"

"No one bothers my friend!" declared the girl. "Isn't that right Will?"

Willow grinned. "That's right Buffy..Oh, hey" said Willow, looking properly at the other girl who'd come over to save her...Wow, thought Willow. She's so beautiful.

"Thank you so much for that..that was so brave of you..he was being such a total..." Willow took in the other girl's style of dress and decided to not go for a swear word.."jerk".

Willow held out her hand. "I'm Willow Rosenberg and this girl here's my best friend, Elizabeth, but for some reason, everyone calls her Buffy."

"I'm Tara" said Tara, holding her hand out to Willow. Willow took the other girl's hand and then felt a slight surge of electricity..strange, she thought. Tara felt it too and then, somewhat reluctantly, removed her hand.

Willow was beautiful, thin but with the most amazing hair and eyes...and mouth..Wow..

Buffy shook Tara's hand too. "I don't think he'll be bothering either of you for a bit..he's not likely to wake up tonight anyway..I have to go collect on a few bets..will you both be okay if i head off for a bit? You can just yell out if there's trouble.."

"Sure" said Willow, still staring at the blonde girl in front of her.."See you later.."

"So Tara.." said Willow. "Want to sit with me for a bit?"

"Definitely" smiled Tara, intrigued by the girl in front of her.

Love on the seas - Chapter Two

Same disclaimers as before

________________________________________

"So you're up in first class then?" asked Willow, genuinely curious about the girl sitting beside her. From her dress, it was pretty clear that she was a first class passenger, yet she was down sitting down looking relaxed and calm next to her, a maid.

"Yes" said Tara simply, feeling a little embarassed. Would the other girl think that she felt that she was better than her? She hoped not. For some reason, she wanted the other girl to like her.

"Oh" said Willow. And then with a smile, "What's that like?"

Tara grinned crookedly at the other girl, looking into her eyes...and they're such beautiful eyes..she thought..

"It's good" said Tara. "But I know that it's only good because we're exploiting hundreds of people below deck that we don't even see." She was solemn after those words.

Willow looked intently at her. This girl was different to the others from first class..she was...gentle ...or something....

"Do you fit in up there?" asked Willow, genuinely curious.

"I guess not" said Tara, surprised that she was telling someone she'd just met this sort of thing. "Not really..I ..uh..." and then she caught a glance of a clock.

"Oh no! My father's going to think I've eloped with Alexander...not that that would bother him I guess..." she trailed off sadly.

Willow looked intrigued. "Is he your boyfriend?"

"Alexander? No!" exclaimed Tara. "We've only just met...and you know, he has a girlfriend, and even if he didn't.." she stopped herself..."Am I over-explaining? I should have just said, I don't have a boyfriend.."

Willow smiled at her, unable to understand why the blonde's words made her feel happy. "Oh, I see. But your father doesn't know that you're down here?"

"No!" exclaimed Tara. "He's only brought me on this trip to marry me off to some rich man, so I don't think he'd really approve..but you know, I kind of think people here are much more interesting..and uh, nicer.." she smiled at Willow as she said it.

Willow's stomach did a strange dive as her eyes met Tara. Wow. This girl is really something, she thought to herself.

"So you have to get back?" questioned Willow, sad that the other girl was leaving.

"Yeah, I guess.." replied Tara, also not pleased to be going. First interesting person I meet in...ages...and I have to leave her...

"Want me to walk with you?" asked Willow. "I know a good way to get on top.."

"Sure" said Tara, happy that she'd get to spend longer with her new friend. "Hang on, I'll just tell Alexander.."

A minute or two later, Tara came over, red-faced and blushing..."Sorry..It's just Alexander and Anya...they were..uh..in a ..compromsing position..Anya seems to be quite...comfortable..oh never mind.."

Willow smiled. Tara was adorable when she was embarassed.

_____________________________________________

The walk back on top gave Willow and Tara the chance to talk a little more away from other distractions.

Willow had just finished telling Tara about why she wanted to go to America and the courage and strength of the other girl had made a strong impression on Tara.

"You're so strong Willow, to be able to do what you want to do..to leave one country and start again in another..."

"Nah" said Willow, blushing at the compliment.."I just figured that things weren't happening for me at home and that I really needed to change that. You only get one shot at life right?"

"Right" agreed Tara, and then a wave hit the ship and it lurched very slightly. But it was enough to knock Tara slightly off her feet.

"Hey..hey, I've got you" said Willow, pulling the other girl onto her feet and closer towards her..

As Willow's hands touched her waist, Tara felt it...her pulse sped up slightly and she felt dizzy. "Um..wow..?" she managed.

"Tara? What is it? Are you dizzy? Do you need to sit?"

Willow suspected she was babbling.

"Um no" managed Tara. "I - I'll be okay.."

When they reached the right floor, Willow stopped at the door.

"I better not go any further..you know, can't have the staff wandering around at this time of night, scaring people.."

Willow chuckled to herself but it was true. The management liked the staff to be nearly invisible to the people on the upper decks.

"Oh" said Tara sadly. "So this is goodnight then?" and then, more softly. "Will I see you again Willow?"

Willow looked surprised. "Do you want to?"

"Oh yes!" said Tara quickly..and then she blushed a little. "I mean, I had a nice time..and if you wanted to maybe talk some more ..some other time..then I'd like that..it'd be nice..." she trailed off. How stupid was she to think that Willow would want to spend more time with her?

"Tara, I'd like that.." said Willow firmly. But you know, I'm working all tomorrow during the day and I won't be finished till ...actually, till about this time..."

"Come and visit me!" said Tara firmly , before she'd even had a chance to think properly.

"Visit you? You mean...in your room?" questioned Willow.

"Yes" said Tara. "Can you sneak up here? Just come when you're done..no-one will know..knock twice and I'll know it's you.."

"Okay" said Willow immediately, knowing that she'd be exhausted after a fourteen hour day but still happy at the thought of seeing Tara again.

"So um..goodbye for now..but I'll see you tomorrow night?" said Tara.

"Yes" agreed Willow. "tomorrow night." And then, unconsciously, Willow reached out and squeezed Tara' s hand. "Goodnight Tara." and turned and walked back down the stairs.

Tara headed towards her room. It had been a strange night but now, the journey had barely started and she'd met someone really special, really interesting. Maybe this trip will be okay afterall she thought, opening up her door.

Love on the seas - Chapter Three (just a short snippet!)

Same disclaimers apply.

Feedback very much welcomed!

___________________________________________

Tara had strange dreams that night, she had glimses of things that made no sense to her, that scared her. In itself this wasn't unusual. Until she'd died, Tara's mother had been something of a seer and had practised magic, without Tara's father knowing of course. She'd taught Tara a few basic things and not to fear the power of magic but to respect it.

Her dreams that night were of ice, something wasn't right with ice...and of Willow. But the thought of Willow comforted her, made her feel safe. The girl was somehow important to her? Otherwise, why was she dreaming of her. Of her hair, her beauty, her smile..her eyes...

When she woke up the next morning, she felt confused. What were her dreams telling her? But Tara pushed the thoughts out of her mind...no point in worrying about this now, she thought...it will become clear when it's meant to.

And in ten minutes time, Jenny, the maid assigned to her by the liner knocked on the door and came into the room. "Miss Maclay..shall I help you get ready this morning? Your father has requested that you join him for breakfast in half an hour."

"Oh good morning Jenny. Please, don't w-worry.I will be ready in half an hour...You don't have to help me.."

Jenny smiled. Tara was her favourite passenger. She never acted like she thought she was better than her..

And then, without really thinking..Tara asked.."Jenny, do you know another maid..a girl called Willow...?"

"No" frowned Jenny. "But i can make some enquiries if you'd like Miss Maclay.."

"Oh no..." said Tara.."Really, it's not important. Forget I said anything.."

"Certainly" said Jenny, arranging Tara's clothes for her, even though the other girl had insisted she didn't need any help.

_______________________________________________

At breakfast, Tara's father was much cockier than usual. He was convinced that Tara and Alexander Harris were going to make the perfect couple.

"Such a good family" he crowed. "Just right for you Tara. It'll really be a perfect union.."

"Dad.." managed Tara. "I don't think that...I don't think that Alexander and I think of each other in that way..."

"Oh don't you worry!" exclaimed Mr Maclay. "I've had a long talk with that young man's father and he was very impressed with you. And Alexander Harris will do what his parents tell him to do. That's what all good children do, isn't it Tara?"

With that comment, Mr Maclay glanced down at his daughter. She was a funny child, Tara. He had never really been able to reach her like he could Donnie. Too much like her mother was, he thought to himself, annoyed. Both Tara and her mother came across as very shy but there was an inner-strength, a resolve that far surpassed anything that Donald Maclay had encountered. Usually he could get his own way with Tara and her mother, but sometimes, just sometimes, they'd use that inner-strength and refuse to give in. And it drove Donald Maclay absolutely insane.

"Anyway" he said firmly, "I think it'll be a good union. More coffee?" he asked, pointedly to illustrate that the conversation was closed as far as he was concerned.

Tara sat on the deck by herself after breakfast was over. What am I going to do till tonight? Till I see Willow again, she thought happily. Such a pretty name. Such a pretty girl. And then briefly, the thought crossed Tara's mind. Why are you so happy at the thought of seeing her again? What is going on with me? she thought. Oh, who cares? It's good to be happy, Tara grinned to herself.

______________________________________________

Below deck, in the ship's under-belly, Willow was hard at work. "Rosenberg!" shouted out Snyder, her immediate supervisor. "Faster, faster! Those clothes have to be taken to laundry now, not in ten minutes' time!!"

"Yes sir" said Willow, not letting Snyder shake her out of her good mood.

It was funny, she'd been in a good mood since last, since Tara, she thought to herself. What an interesting person she is.

Five minutes later, Willow was dumping the load of clothes in the section used to do laundry. Her friend Buffy worked in that section, and Willow was pleased to have an excuse to visit her.

"Hello Buffy" said Willow happily and she passed the load of laundry to the other girl.

"Hello" said Buffy, equally brightly and throwing the load of laundry across the room.

"I'll never understand your strength" said Willow.

"I'll never understand how you managed to get a first class girl to come and try and rescue you last night.." retorted Buffy.

"Um" said Willow, at once lost for words.

"Yeah" agreed Buffy. "It was very impressive! You've made yourself a rich friend have you Willow?"

"Buffy!" exclaimed Willow. "There's more to Tara than money you know!"

"Really?" asked Buffy, genuinely curious. She hadn't known many so-called upper-class people and the ones she had met hadn't really been worth knowing.

"Yes!" said Willow emphatically. "She's gentle, she's smart, she's sweet, she's funny.. and she's beautiful.." Willow trailed off. Good god! Where had the last one come from.

Buffy looked at her closely, with a smile playing on her lips. "Beautiful hey? Is little Willow Rosenberg in lo-oove?"

Willow blushed bright red and threw a nearby dirty pillowcase at Buffy's head. "Do you know how annoying you can be sometimes Buffy!"

Buffy laughed. "You might have mentioned it once or twice. But really, there were some strange vibes coming from you both last night...you looked so ...intimate..." she said.

"Shut-up!!" blushed Willow. "Do you want me to help you with this laundry or not?"

We don't need lists of rights and wrongs, tables of do's and don'ts: we need books, time and silence.

Very interesting premise you've got going here and i am absolutely loving it! Hope you update this fic soon!

You're right... now that you think about it, it does seem like an obvious AU fic but like you, i've never read one set on the Titanic before. I think you're making a grand job of it and i can't wait to read more. I am anticipating some trials and bumps and forks in the road up ahead, but also some sweet Willow/Tara lovin'. Hope they manage to get a happy ending, maybe a new life for both of them in New York! But i guess we'll just have to wait and see...

And the falling will be so interesting considering how her family feels about it all. Hey, I saw the idea for a regular buffy type fic but not a w/t fic so hey! It's new to us.

Love on the seas - Chapter Four

Although there was lots to do on the Titanic, Tara spent the rest of the day in a bit of a daze. There was a Turkish bath and a swimming pool on board but Tara stayed well away from them both. Instead she headed to both of the ship's libraries to check them out.

All in all, it was a good day. Fortunately, she managed to avoid her father and Donnie for most of the day, which was always good. But all good things had to come to an end it would seem, as Mr Maclay had been quite insistant about them dining together in the evening as a family.

Tara sighed as she got ready alone in her cabin. She flicked on the electric lights - quite an unusual commodity on board a ship, like the heating in her room.

She glanced around, unable to explain it but somehow bothered by the luxury of the cabin.

God, it's so unfair, all those people below deck toiling away just so we can live like this! It's so stupid!

She was shaken out of her thoughts by the sound of a loud rapping on the door. She sighed again as she walked across and opened it to reveal her brother, Donnie, leaning against the wall.

"Ready for dinner sis?" grinned Donnie.

Tara managed a weak smile in return. "Yes, of course.. shall we?"

Donnie took her arm and they headed off to eat.

_____________________________________________

Although she'd seen it yesterday, Tara was still taken back by the impressive staircase leading to the dining room. "Wow" she murmered softly under her breath. No expense had been spared on this ship, that's for sure.

All to marry Donnie and I off, Tara thought to herself glumly.

"Tara, good! There you are!" exclaimed Mr Maclay, jumping up to pull out Tara's seat for her. "I thought we should dine as a family tonight. There are important things I want us to discuss."

Tara nodded her agreement. In less than two minutes her eyes had completely glazed over and she was just nodding when there was a pause in the conversation. "Yes father.."

All the passengers in First Class enjoyed a seven-course dinner with an abundance of wine, but Tara just picked at her food. This marrying business was really starting to worry her. Why wouldn't her father leave her alone?

I wonder what Willow's eating? she thought to herself. Nothing like this I bet! At the thought of Willow though, Tara visibly brightened. She's so interesting, she thought. So determined and smart...and pretty...she blushed at the last one. Why have I even noticed that, she thought to herself!

But Tara was unpleasantly shaken out of her thoughts about the red-haired girl by the arrival of a fellow Southerner...Cordelia Chase.

"Mr Maclay, Donald jrn.." said Cordelia, nodding towards them.

Donnie looked very impressed by the brunette's arrival.

"Miss Chase..How are you?"

"Well ...fine" pouted Cordelia..."Perhaps a little sad that I won't have anyone to dance with tonight.."

"Oh a pretty girl like yourself...I imagine you'll have lots of suitors..but if there's a moment when you're alone..rest assured that I'll be in-line for a dance..In fact" continued Donnie..."perhaps we could sit and talk over a cup of coffee right now?"

Cordelia smiled, satisfied. The Maclays were a fine family indeed and she'd be quite pleased to marry into that tradition. The Chases were new money and were still not accepted by some of the older southern families.

Mr Maclay smiled happily. This trip was working out just the way he'd planned it. If he could even find a match for his son Donnie, and let's face it, Donnie wasn't all that great to look at, then finding a potential spouse, a suitable spouse, for Tara, wouldn't be a problem at all.

"Have fun you two" he said, to the departing figures of Donnie and Cordelia.

"And now Tara, perhaps I could introduce you to a few families..."

Tara grimaced. "Actually father, I have a slight headache..and I'm not sure if I'm at my best to meet people tonight..."

Mr Maclay frowned. He supposed Tara was right. It was important that she make a good impression on the right people. "Well...if you're not feeling well...perhaps some rest would do you good?"

Tara nodded gratefully. "Yes, that's what I need. Some rest. I might head back to my room now actually.." she trailed off.

"Would you like me to escort you?" asked Mr Maclay, hoping Tara would say no. He knew there were a couple of wealthy widows in first class and he intended on meeting and impressing them both.

"No..no" said Tara, getting up. "I'll be fine. I'll rest..and I'll see you tomorrow."

_____________________________________________

As Tara headed back to her room, she was conscious that Willow would be visiting her in an hour or so. God! I have to get ready, she thought to herself. I-I...she mentally calmed herself. Although it was much better than it had been previously, Tara had been known to stutter on occasions, especially when she was nervous and anxious. But she hadn't get worked out why she was so nervous at the thought of seeing Willow again.

_______________________________________________

Meanwhile, deep in the under-belly of the ship, Willow was also feeling pretty nervous.

Buffy, taking a pile of laundry from Willow, as usual, came straight out with what she was thinking.

"So, you're visiting your rich friend tonight, right?"

"Uh huh" nodded Willow.

"What are you wearing?" questioned Buffy.

"I uh...I don't know" frowned Willow.

She hadn't given the matter much thought but now, it took on a certain urgency.

"Oh no!" she exclaimed. "Buffy! What am I going to wear? I can't wander around up around there dressed in my normal clothes..."

She looked at Buffy with a look of dismay.

"Relax!" grinned Buffy, "you've got nothing to worry about!"

"How can you say that?" responded Willow.

"Uh Willow...look around you..." said Buffy. "do you think you're going to be short of clothes?"

Willow grinned, realizing what her friend was saying. "Oh...so...quickly, where are the clean but flattering clothes?"

Buffy grinned back. "You talk funny! And they're over there near where Faith was working earlier.."

Willow bounded in the direction that Buffy had pointed and began pulling through the pile... God! Look at me! thought Willow to herself. Why am I going to so much trouble for some first class girl I only met last night?

_______________________________________________

Right on time, Willow walked quietly to Tara's cabin.

B-58 - here we are..she thought to herself. She glanced around her once or twice, before knocking on the door two times as arranged the previous night.

And then, before Willow could even think, the door swung open to reveal Tara standing before her. She looks even more beautiful than last night thought Willow to herself as she followed Tara into the room. She'd scarcely believed such a thing was possible.

Tara was wearing a blue dress which brought out the colour of her eyes and her hair was loose around her shoulders.

Willow swallowed. "Hello" she said.

"Willow" exclaimed Tara, quietly but with obvious happiness in her voice.."I-I didn't know if you'd come..."

She looked at the red-haired girl in front of her. Whereas last night the girl had been dressed casually, tonight she was wearing a much more elegant dress. It was a beautiful emerald green colour...all in all, Willow was dressed like a first class girl..

"You look beautiful" said Tara, without thinking. "I mean..you looked beautiful yesterday..."

Willow smiled. "It's okay. I'm more dressed up tonight...I thought this way, if anyone saw me, they wouldn't get alarmed.."

Tara smiled. "Oh, good idea..So uh, have you eaten?"

"Yes" frowned Willow. "But I'm trying to forget"

Tara looked confused..

Willow thought she had better explain. "It's just the food we get..sometimes it's not very good, you're better off pretending you haven't eaten it, you know.." she trailed off, embarassed for some reason.

The casual elegance of the room was intimidating Willow. What was she doing here, a maid, talking to some rich girl she'd only just met...

"Tara" Willow swallowed..."I should...I think maybe I should go?.."

Tara instantly knew why Willow felt uncomfortable. Without thinking, she reached out for the other girl's hand. "Please Willow...stay with me for a while..."

Willow relaxed at the other girl's touch. "I uh.."

Tara continued softly. "Please...I'd really like to talk to you some more..I've been thinking about you..a lot today.."

"Really?" questioned Willow, startled that the girl in front of her had given her any extra thought.

"Really" said Tara. "Here" she reached over and pulled out a seat for Willow. "Talk with me for a bit.."

Love on the Seas - Chapter Five

Both Willow and Tara were amazed at how quickly the next few hours went. Willow talked more about the new life she wanted in America and Tara told Willow things she hadn't imagined telling anyone - about her mother, what it had been like when she died and how difficult Donnie and her father could sometimes be.

Willow had relaxed in the luxurious quarters, although she still smiled to herself every now and then to think that she was there as an invited guest and not a maid.

She glanced over at the blonde girl. She was truly the most beautiful girl Willow had ever seen. Her eyes were so blue, so pure..and that mouth..Willow could barely stop looking at her mouth..it was...sensuous..

Sensuous..thought Willow...what am I thinking? Think of her personality. Tara was incredibly sweet, noted Willow. The girl had none of the airs and graces that the other first class passengers seemed to possess.

Some time earlier, Tara had commented that the thick carpets on the floor were more comfortable than the chairs and both girls had tested out her theory by sprawling out next to each other on the ground with only dim lighting to see by.

Willow had been very impressed by the heating in the room, much better than the quarters she was camping in. And it could have been the heat, it could have been the relaxed atmosphere in the room, or even the fourteen hour day she'd worked, but eventually, she dozed off.

Tara, who had been in the middle of describing the house she'd grown up in, as well as what is was like to go horse riding, didn't feel at all offended.

"You poor thing" she said softly. "You're exhausted."

Tara went to the cupboard and pulled out a spare blanket and a pillow. After some gentle manoevering, she managed to place the pillow under Willow's head and a blanket over the girl's body.

And without thinking, Tara leant over and placed a gently kiss on her forehead. "Goodnight Willow" she said softly, reaching over and turning off the light.

I'll just rest for a moment, thought Tara and then I'll get changed. And as she drifted of to sleep, she smiled at the thought of the girl she was getting to know. You're special, Willow, she thought. Very special.

______________________________________________

The next morning, Tara awoke feeling curiously happy and more at ease than she had felt previously on the ship. "Mmm..." she rolled over, the events of the previous evening flooding back quickly.

She turned to see how Willow had slept, but to her dismay, the spot where the other girl had been sleeping was empty. The blanket Tara had covered her in had been neatly folded on top of the pillow. The neat pile of bedding was the only indication that last night had happened at all.

"Oh" said Tara, feeling curiously sad. Willow had obviously gotten up and left last night. She didn't wait to say goodbye, thought Tara.

But then she cheered up a little as she glanced at her clock. It was past 8 in the morning. Of course, Willow would have already started work. I hope you weren't late, thought Tara guiltily. It was selfish of me to want to talk to you so late, I wore you out.

As Tara got up, she took off the dress she'd fallen asleep in and hung in on the back of the chair near her desk. As she did this though, she noticed that there was writing on the notepad on the desk.

Tara, thanks for a lovely evening last night.

You must think I'm terrible, falling asleep like

I did. I'm very sorry. And now I can't even say

sorry in person. I have to work, so I have to

leave you. Will I see you again soon? I have my

day off this week tomorrow.

Yours,

Willow.

Tara smiled, thrilled that Willow had left a note. How sweet, she thought. A knock on the door indicated that she wouldn't have too much time to dwell alone on the other girl's note.

Jenny entered the room.

"Good morning Miss Maclay" she said brightly. "How are you this morning?"

"I'm very good Jenny" said Tara, happily. And then, without even thinking about what she was doing, she snatched up Willow's note. "Time to get ready for the day ahead I suppose.."

________________________________________________

For Tara, the morning had been as mundane as previous ones. And things got worse in the afternoon. Her father had tried to introduce her to another eligible young man, Riley Finn, from the Newfoundland Finns. Tara had tried to make her excuses but her father wasn't haven't any of it.

So it was that forcefulness which saw her forced to accompany Riley Finn on a tour of the ship.

There was something about Riley that Tara didn't like. He clearly thought that First Class passengers were a lot better than everyone else on the ship and acted accordingly whenever they passed someone of a "different class". And he was patronizing and sexist to Tara and women generally.

Yuck, thought Tara to herself. Please let this end soon!

But then, Riley marched down a staircase.

"Come on Tara...You'll like this...Hurry up.."

Sighing, she walked behind him. I can't believe the things you make me do, father, she thought sighing with resignation. And then, Tara tried to think of something more pleasant. And the first thing that came to mind was Willow. Oh Willow, thought Tara sadly. I wish you were here with me now. You have such a positive attitude, you have so much to say, to offer...and you're a lot nicer to look at than Riley! she thought!

Okay....Tara thought..what was that about? Am I ...do I have....And with great clarity, the answer came to her. Yes, yes I do have ...feelings...for Willow. Oh!!!!!!

Homosexuality was not a topic commonly discussed by upper-class southern girls, but Tara knew enough to know that it existed. She's just never really connected the dots before. "Oh my god!" she said.

"Tara?" said Riley. "What is it?"

Tara blushed a furious red colour.. "Uh. nothing..I'm sorry Riley..you were saying?"

And that was all the invitation Riley needed to continue. "Most impressive ship ever built...God himself couldn't sink this ship if he tried.."

Tara tuned out again as she reflected on what she'd just realized. I'm ..homosexual...she thought..But there's never been any other girls..no, that wasn't true. Looking back now, Tara could see very clearly that all her ideas of what was attractive, what was beautiful, involved women. But there had never been one single woman that Tara had fallen for..until now...It's Willow. I think I'm falling in love with Willow.

Cool update! A great romantic story with my two favourite girls and very prompt updates...I think i may just be falling in love with you!! I really do like this story and can't wait to see where you take it! Poor Tara, havin to suffer her Dad like that! And Willow, feeling like she's not good enough for Tara No doubt they'll have to be sneaky and not get caught! Although they probably will eventually! But i have a feeling this is a fic where true love will conquer all *cue soppy music*

:clap What a great story so far! I never saw the movie...so this is all new and exciting and romantic :love ...all the elements of a super W/T AU ! I am going to hold you to that happy ending...I'm real down on unhappy death type or we're apart endings. I crave " in your arms kissing and I love you" endings!

I also like the twist that both girls will be discovering their sexuality together! You've also done a great job of incorporating the other characters...even though I only need W/T. Well, you definitely have a stowaway on your ship...ME!

I really have to thank everyone who's taken the time to provide feedback. It really means a lot and helps me keep those updates coming. So thank you very much to everyone who's read and responded.

stroke of luck - thanks so much for your comments. Don't worry, there's always a bit of dramatic tension and love against the odds and with obstacles kind of thing, but happy endings all the way :)

wiccanwiggle with feedback like yours, the feeling just might be mutual :) Glad you're enjoying it.

WTEL thanks for your feedback and just for you, I might even include a little Buffy/Faith in this fic. They can be kind of cute too :)

moccha_fiend22 glad you're enjoying it, it means a lot :)

Incitaua8 - thanks for your really lovely comments. I promise you a happy ending, and i love the way you described what you want. Yes, I thought that it would be good to have Willow and Tara discover their sexuality together, it just seemed like that'd be how it would be in 1912..so I am thrilled that you think I made the right decision. And hope you keep reading and enjoying.

And a little note on this part, there's not much Willow and Tara in this chapter but there will be in the next one. This one's more about setting the scene for what's going to happen. So stick with me and we'll be on to the good stuff very soon! :)

Love on the Seas - Chapter Six

Buffy could tell that Willow was preoccupied. This in itself wasn't unusual - Buffy usually tried to concentrate on other things too when she was doing laundry but Willow had been on another planet all day.

"Willow" exclaimed Buffy loudly, hoping to wake her friend up. "Look alive!"

Willow jumped. "God Buffy! ...what is it?"

"Oh nothing" grinned Buffy, "You've just been preoccupied all morning and I want to know what's on your mind.."

Willow blushed a deep crimson color. "Uh...nothing..just ..you know..laundry stuff.."

"I'll bet!" declared Buffy, "because it's just so interesting! Are you going to tell me what you're really thinking about?"

"Well.." Willow thought for a minute.

She'd been thinking about Tara all day and how nice the previous evening had been. She wasn't entirely sure why she was thinking so much about the blonde girl, but thoughts of Tara were making her very happy indeed. But was this something she wanted to share with Buffy? Or did she want to keep Tara, the details that she'd shared the previous evening, as something that was all hers?

Willow grinned. "I was thinking that you're going to have to tell Faith to work harder, I swear yesterday she left about twenty piles of stuff for me to do while she was off smoking somewhere for two hours!!"

Buffy blushed. For some reason she found it hard to tell the dark haired girl what to do..Faith had a free-spirited nature which fascinated Buffy and she could never really bring herself to clamp down on it.

Time to change the subject, thought Buffy to herself. "So Willow. How are you enjoying your third day on the greatest ship ever built?"

Willow laughed. "Somehow I don't think we're experiencing the same Titanic as all those people up in first class!"

Buffy laughed. "I'm glad you talked me into coming with you to America Willow..things will be better there than at home.." she trailed off.

Willow smiled at her. "Definitely."

________________________________________________

Ever since her revelation earlier, Tara hadn't been able to stop thinking about Willow. She had eventually managed to get rid of Riley and head back to her room. I'm in love with Willow, she thought as the late afternoon set in. The thought kept echoing through her head. I've only know her for two days but it feels much longer..she smiled at the thought of the other girl. Oh Willow. What are you doing now? she wondered. I can't wait to see you again. For a whole day perhaps, she thought as she remembered the other girl's note that had informed her of the day off she had tomorrow.

Tara shook her head. But I can't tell you how I feel. What would you think if you knew..the way I'm thinking about you...how much I'm thinking about you. I bet you haven't given me a second thought...she trailed off glumly. Well, nevermind, thought Tara. If she was going to have the chance to get to know someone as wonderful as Willow, then she was going to seize it! I want to see you again Willow, she thought smiling. Soon I hope.

To clear her mind a little, Tara decided to go for a walk, perhaps to the library. She shut her cabin door behind her and headed off. But she hadn't gotten far down the corridor when she saw her father rapidly approaching.

"Oh great" she said quietly under her breath.

"Tara, Tara!" her father called loudly. "Good, I'm glad I caught you! Let's go for a stroll on the promenade before dinner!"

Tara sighed. The promenade was a part of the deck that First Class passengers could stroll around and be seen by all the "right" sort of people.

Sensing that she didn't have much of a choice, she nodded to indicate that she'd accompany her father.

______________________________________________

"Great news Tara" began her father, once they had reached the promenade. "I've just had a visit from Riley Finn. It seems he's very taken with you. He must have run straight up to visit me after he left you earlier."

Tara's heart lurched. This wasn't good. Why couldn't she have been ruder to him. God, I am so stupid sometimes! she thought.

"Oh" she said.

"Yes" continued Mr Maclay, totally oblivious to the discomfort etched on his daughter's face.

"It seems that Riley Finn thinks that you and he would make a very good match...In fact", continued Mr Maclay

"he's asked me if you'd accompany him dancing tonight. And of course I told him you'd be delighted."

Tara couldn't stop herself. "Father! I-I-I" she paused and tried to get control of herself. "I don't know if I want..."

Her father interupted her. "Want? You think I care what you want! Do you know how much our tickets cost! Donnie's going along with what I want, and you will as well. Oh, you'll go dancing with Riley Finn if I have to accompany you there and back myself. Do I make myself clear."

Tara stood frozen. Her father was getting increasingly aggressive and she knew that arguing with him in situations like this always ended badly.

"Yes father" she said miserably. "Perfectly clear."

"Good" exclaimed Mr Maclay, still visibly angry. "Get ready and I'll come and get you for dinner and then you can go with Riley Finn. Goodbye Tara."

And he spun around and left, not noticing or caring about the forlorn look on Tara's face.

________________________________________________

Back in her cabin, Jenny helped Tara get dressed.

"And what would you like to wear tonight?" questioned the young maid.

It was very clear to her that Miss Maclay was upset but it wasn't any of her business.

"I don't mind" sighed Tara. "Anything..You choose..."

Jenny was a little surprised by the request, but went over to the row of dresses.

"Very well, I'll choose..."

________________________________________________

While Tara was glumly eating her dinner, Willow was still working hard below deck with Buffy and Faith. She would be working until very late tonight, the pile of laundry, despite her best efforts just didn't seem to be getting any smaller.

As Willow worked, she couldn't help but notice the way that Faith was looking at her friend..and the way her friend was glancing back at the dark haired girl.

That's funny, thought Willow, discreetly observing Buffy and Faith. The way they're acting...almost like they're..she trailed off, not completing the thought, as Snyder burst into the room.

"Just as I thought!" he glared. "Still a huge pile of work to be done! What an earth are you girls being paid for.."

Faith opened her mouth as if to say something but caught a glance at Buffy, who was looking pleadingly at her, and shut it again without saying anything.

"Well" continued Snyder. "I hope you girls don't think you're going anywhere tonight! You'll stay here till this is all done!"

Willow grimaced. At least she had the day off tomorrow, that was something..

________________________________________________

Finally, for Tara, the dreaded hour approached and Riley arrived at the table. After exchanging pleasantries with

Mr Maclay he extended his arm out for Tara.

"Shall we?" he beamed.

And every fibre of Tara's being screamed out no but she forced herself to get up and accompany Riley to the ball room.

"You look even more beautiful tonight than earlier" murmered Riley. "And I couldn't have imagined that such a thing was possible."

"Thank you" said Tara quietly, thinking to herself, I hope this evening passes quickly.

But to her dismay, Riley insisted on many dances and the evening seemed to drag out. "Oh" said Riley, raising an eyebrow as the music stopped

"Come with me for a bit Tara, there's something important I want to show you.."

"Um" managed Tara. "Can it wait? I'm pretty tired and I..."

"This won't take long" murmered Riley, grabbing her hand and leading her out the door. "Come on."

________________________________________________

"What was it that you wanted to show me, Riley" asked Tara bluntly. Being polite to this man had only caused her problems so far, so she had decided forget about manners.

"Well" said Riley. "It's such a beautiful night out here.." He glanced at Tara. "Are you cold?"

"No" she declared. The last thing she wanted was to be warmed up by Riley Finn.

"Let me warm you" murmered Riley, trying to stick his arm around Tara.

"R-R-R Riley, I'm really not comfortable with this.." managed Tara, being perhaps the most forthright she'd ever been in her life.

But to her horror, Riley was refusing to be distracted. "Oh come on..don't be shy...I'll warm you up.." He pulled Tara closer towards him.

"Riley" said Tara, angry and upset. "I said no!"

"Shhhh, shhhhh" murmured Riley as he tried to pull Tara in for a kiss and put his hands tigher around her waist.

But then, Tara did something she'd never done before. She slapped Riley in the face.

Riley dropped all pretense of gentlemanly behavior. "You little bitch!" he growled.

Tara stepped back, scared and turned on her heel and ran!

And the first person she thought of running to was Willow. Where are you Willow? she though as she headed to the stairwell, Riley close behind her.

Love on the seas - Chapter Seven

Postby missspangles » Sat Jun 21, 2003 1:53 am

Fairydust - just for you, here's an update :)

Love on the seas - Chapter Seven

Tara tried to concentrate. She hadn't really been paying too much attention when Alexander had led her below deck that other evening. And when she'd been with Willow the other night, well, all she'd focused on had been Willow. Willow! she thought to herself, where are you? How on earth was she going to find one girl on the biggest passenger ship ever built? Especially with Riley hot on her heels...although he seemed to have fallen back a bit.

Tara took advantage of being alone and ducked into a cupboard. God, hopefully he won't find me here, she thought frantically. And then, she did something she hadn't done for a long time..since her mother died..she tried to concentrate hard. If she could just clear her mind, she was certain she'd know where Willow was.

________________________________________________Down in the laundry room, Willow was sitting down folding up clothes, when all of a sudden she sat bolt upright.

Buffy caught the action and looked over at her.

"Willow? What's wrong?"

"I don't know" frowned Willow. "I don't know"

Tara! she thought to herself. What's happening.

Buffy looked concerned.

________________________________________________

And just like that, within a minute, Tara had a firm idea of where to go. She didn' t know what she'd fiind, just that she was heading to safety. She ran down several levels of stairs into the darkness of the ship and across a corridor. It felt like she'd been running forever, but the whole process mustn't have taken more than twenty minutes.

She headed down a corridor. Through there, she thought to herself, seeing dim lighting coming from under a closed door.

Tara tried the handle but found it locked. She pounded frantically on the door.

"Yeah, yeah!" came a female voice. "Give me a minute" and then Buffy opened the door.

Tara vaguely recognized the girl who had saved her from yet another unwanted sexual come-on the previous night. She looked behind Buffy, who was quite stunned to see Tara there, and saw the girl she was looking for, Willow, standing a metre or so behind Buffy, looking at her.

"Tara!" exclaimed Willow, rushing towards the distressed girl. "What's happened? Are you okay?" And then, with anger in her voice. "Tara, has someone hurt you?"

Tara didn't know whether to laugh or cry, but for the first time in hours, she felt safe. "I'm okay..no..it's all okay now."

She looked anxiously at Buffy, who sensed that Willow and Tara needed some alone time. "Tara" said Buffy quietly. "Willow will look after you..and I'm..going to get you a cup of tea..you're safe now.."

Buffy left the two girls together and Tara collapsed in Willow's arms.

Willow held her and let her cry. She rubbed Tara gently on the back and let the girl compose herself.

"It's okay" she murmered softly, "it's okay" Although focusing entirely on Tara, and making Tara feel okay, Willow was seething inside. Someone had hurt Tara, her Tara...beautiful Tara...okay, okay, where was this stuff coming from and what was going on? Willow chose to ignore these questions and instead focused on soothing the girl in her arms.

After a few minutes, Tara stopped crying but just let herself relax into Willow's embrace. It felt so right, so natural...she looked up at Willow, who was looking at her questioningly.

Tara thought briefly about what to say and decided it was best to be succinct. "This guy" she managed.. "my father..he made me go to a dance with him and afterwards...he t-t-t-tried to..."

Willow felt her anger rising again..and something else mixed in with her anger..what was it?

"What happened Tara? My god! Did he try to..." Willow couldn't even bring herself to finish the question.

But Tara knew what the other girl was asking. "No" she said. "He didn't. He tried to kiss me and he grabbed. But I slapped him and then he....tried to chase me..I just kept running..."

Tara trailed off, not really sure how to explain that she'd been looking for Willow, that she'd concentrated so that she'd find her.

But Willow didn't ask anything else. She just pulled Tara in closer to her, noticing how well they fitted together.

"It's alright Tara" Willow said softly. And then fiercely, "I won't let anyone hurt you, I promise."

Tara pulled herself back and looked into the other girl's eyes, seeing her concern..and love? was it possible? _______________________________________________

The end of yet another thrilling update. Riley certainly is a nasty piece of work in this fic. And Tara's Dad, i wish someone would just throw him overboard! At least the bad things are bringing Willow and Tara even closer together. Will we get to experience the infamous portrait painting from the film (a la Jack and ) Willow/Tara style?! And how about a little drunken night of partying below deck with Anya and Xander, Buffy and Faith and of course Willow and Tara! Look forward to reading more!

wicaanwiggle Lol! Yes, I seem to be going for a few cliff-hangers at the moment. But you definitely saw through what's going on here. The bad things are definitely serving to make Willow and Tara realize that they're meant to be together. They've both got to fall hard and fast in this fiction (like I'm sure they did in the Buffyverse). Also, you've given me some good ideas for future directions. Don't be surprised if some of your suggestions start coming true! :) I'll give you credit though! Hope you'll enjoy future chapters!

stroke of luck , I'm really glad you're still enjoying it. And you know, it's weird. On the show, I never really had a problem with Riley, it's just in my fiction he kind of became evil! Very strange! But what can I do? :) But don't worry, everyone will get what they deserve in this fiction I think :) Thanks for reading and for commenting!

You know, I can't seem to leave this alone tonight. I don't even feel like I'm writing this at the moment, more like I'm just describing something that's happening. Hmmm. Well, I'll go with it regardless. So here we are...

Love on the Seas - Chapter Eight!

Buffy walked back into the room carrying a hot mug of tea. "Here you go" she said, handing it to Tara.

"Always makes me feel better!"

Tara took it gratefully. "Thanks Buffy"

The two girls seemed to be helping her out a lot lately.

Sensing that Willow and Tara needed to be alone, Buffy gestured for Willow to come over to her. After gently squeezing Tara on the shoulders in a reassuring gesture, Willow walked over to Buffy to see what she wanted.

"Hey Willow, I think Tara needs some company tonight. Why don't you stay with her?"

Willow pointed to the pile of laundry still waiting to be done. "And leave you will all that to do?"

Buffy smiled. "It's no big deal..I might even see if Faith'll help me out..she owes me one anyway"

Buffy thought that she wouldn't mind spending a little time with Faith anyway.

"Are you sure?" asked Willow.

"Yes, go!" exclaimed Buffy. "I'll be fine!"

So Willow led Tara up the various flights of stairs, holding her hand as she went.

Tara relaxed, enjoying being close to the other girl and the warmth of Willow's hand in hers.

And before too long, they'd arrived at Tara's room. This time Willow didn't bother hiding or feeling self-conscious.

"Here we are" she said quietly, as Tara unlocked the room.

"After you" said Tara, watching as the red-haired girl walked into her room.

"Will you stay with me?" asked Tara softly.

"Of course" answered Willow, feeling as though she'd not be able to refuse Tara anything. There was something about the other girl that she couldn't seem to resist.

Tara felt uneasy about what had happened earlier. She knew that Riley couldnt' hurt her in the cold light of day but she was very concerned about what her father would say when he heard the whole story. But she tried to push those thoughts to the back of her mind and focus on the other girl in the room with her.

"Willow" she said quietly.

"Yes Tara" said Willow, looking up at the other girl.

Tara smiled a crooked grin at her. "Thank you"

"Anytime!" announced Willow, unable to hide a yawn.

Tara smiled. Willow was beautiful, even yawning.

"You're exhausted!" she exclaimed.

Tara walked over to her cupboard and pulled out a night dress. "Here you go! Put this on."

Willow took the outfit and smiled. And then Tara swallowed. Was Willow going to undress in front of her? Oh..where should she look? Tara flushed about three thousand shades of red in three seconds and cleared her throat and stared at the floor.

Tara stammered nervously. "I'll just...umm" ..she turned around and faced the closet..try and find something to wear while you do that.."

Willow looked thoughtful. Why was Tara so nervous about her undressing in front of her. She and Buffy undressed in front of each other all the time with no concerns at all. If she hadn't known any better, she would have though Tara was acting like she....like she...liked her...

Willow banished the thought quickly away. No, she was imagining things. What would a girl like Tara see in her? And that's another thing, she thought, Tara's a girl! How do I feel about the whole girl-girl thing? Willow let a smile play on her lips. Actually, quite good about I think..she thought..but nah, Tara's not ...

Willow turned around and quickly got into the dress Tara had given her.

As Willow was changing, Tara realized she was going to need some help. The elaborate ball dress she was wearing had several intricate fastenings at the back and there was no way Tara was going to be able to take them off herself. Afterall, she'd had a maid helping her into it earlier. After waiting a respectable couple of minutes for Willow to change, Tara turned around.

"Uh W-W-Willow" she said, feeling very nervous. "Could you uh- h-h help me undo the um buttons on the back of my..." she trailed off, her face blushing again.

Great, she thought! The heterosexual girl I'm falling in love with is going to have to help me undress. It was enough to almost bring a smile to Tara's face. This could only happen to me.

Willow looked up. "Sure..hang on a second..I'm the girl to ask when it comes to undoing buttons.."

It was Willow's turn to blush. God, I'm such an idiot! she thought. Why did I say that!

But Tara looked so relieved at Willow's answer that Willow stopped mentally beating herself up and walked over behind the other girl.

"So let's have a look" she said walking up behind Tara and, gently reaching up to the first button to unhook it.

Simple! Willow thought to herself, noticing that a considerable portion of Tara's skin was now exposed. Such beautiful skin, she thought to herself, as her hand lightly brushed against it.

Tara shivered slightly as she felt Willow's hand lightly touch her back.

And then Willow moved on to the next button. She's like Venus or something, Willow thought as she made her way down the various buttons. So beautiful. And finally, all the buttons were undone.

Tara turned around. "Thank you Willow" she said sincerely. And then she walked over to the cupboard.

Taking her cue from Tara's behavior earlier, Willow turned her back as the other girl changed.

As Tara changed, she realized that she couldn't very well expect Willow to sleep on the floor. She can have the bed, she resolved. It's only fair.

After she'd changed, she turned to Willow. "Why don't you take the bed? I don't mind sleeping on the floor.."

"Don't be silly" exclaimed Willow. "We can share! Buffy and I share beds smaller than this all the time.."

Willow revised what she'd said mentally. "Uh...you know, cause sometimes, if there hasn't been a lot of room, Buffy and I have shared a bed..." she trailed off. Why was she so concerned with explaining herself to Tara.

But Tara didn't look concerned. "Well, if you're sure..."

"Of course" said Willow. "Hey" she continued, walking over to Tara. "How are you feeling now?"

She leant over to hug the other girl but pulled back to look at Tara as she answered.

"Much better now" answered Tara sincerely, smiling at Willow. Because you're here Willow, she thought.

Willow smiled, hugging Tara felt so nice, not like anything she'd experienced before. She was so..kind, so soft, so beautiful..Willow stared at Tara, transfixed.

Tara watched as Willow gazed at her. Was she..? Could it be that Willow was also..? No, she was just looking at her, that's what people do..thought Tara.

Willow couldn't stop herself from appraising Tara. In her white nightgown, she was gorgeous. Willow slowly looked her over her from the legs up, slowly moving her gaze up to Tara' s face. Her beautiful face. She let her gaze rest on Tara' s lips. Such beautiful lips, such a

a beautiful mouth, she thought, aware that she was staring. You're the most incredible thing I've ever seen, thought Willow.

Tara looked straight at Willow, her beautiful Willow she thought to herself, and Willow looked directly back into Tara's eyes. And then slowly, Tara pulled Willow back into an embrace as Willow leaned over and kissed Tara gently on the mouth.

Oh my god, thought Tara as Willow pulled back.

Oh my god, thought Willow as she pulled back. Why did I...? But she looked at Tara who was smiling softly at her and without thinking, almost unconsciously, as though they'd both done it a thousand times beforehand, Willow and Tara kissed again, this time properly. And it was amazing. What began as a soft, tentative exploration quickly deepened as passions rose.

Both girls felt their hearts speed up. I never imagined it could be like this, thought Tara.

Wow, thought Willow. This is the best moment of my life! And then, all thoughts were banished from her head as she felt Tara lightly moving her hands over her back.

Awww.. how sweet :D .

Imagining Willow and Buffy with an english accent is kinda strange though :-). Oh yeah, Mr. MaClay and Mr. Finn are to be removed from the Life Boat List. We're short on those either way and both men aren't really worth saving.

"do you know how much these tickets cost?" ... the nerve of Mr. MaClay, like Tara actually *asked* for either the trip or those tickets, hmm ?? A true father doesn't sell of his children to the highest bidder. Now if Donnie wants to marry Cordelia that HIS risk but it should be fairly obvious Tara isn't interested in Mr. Finn who thinks being born into money gives special rights. Bwah.

I am worried about what will happen once Mr. MaClay gets complaints from Mr. Finn. How does Willow get into Tara's room without being noticed by Tara's familly anyway ??

Ah well, fun fic... :-)

:clap Those were great updates! I suspected Riley might try something since you said he didn't treat women nice. Hate to think how many women were forced into marriages with guys like that...but hey, Tara has Willow to rescue her from that fate! I was also wondering how you would have them connect...well done... it could have been awkward, but you made it so natural and romantic and sweet. I sure hope that we will get to enjoy Willow's day off with Tara before the ice hits. I can't get enough W/T moments...I can hear Celine Dion singing already. :spin I'm crazy over this cruise!

P.S. I wonder what is going on down in that laundry room? :hmm
