Title: Destiny Rules

Author: Imjustme

Disclaimer: I'm giving this a PG for now....Willow and Tara are trying to work things out.

Notes:

This is really just something I was thinking while listening to the song "Destiny Rules" by Stevie Nicks/Fleetwood Mac. It really seemed to fit even though I'm generally not big on using songs in fic's. I thought I'd give it a start before I got side tracked and forgot about it. I'll prob. end up connecting this to my other fic "making choices" later on...

“Destiny Rules”

It had been over a month since the separation but it seemed like forever. Tara’s thoughts wandered. She thought about how hard it had been to say goodbye. Was this really how it was suppose to be? She was sure they were soul mates. More sure than she ever was of anything...being with Willow was like breathing...natural...necessary. Maybe it just wasn’t meant to be in THIS life...

Maybe we were together in another life

Maybe we are together in a parallel universe

Maybe our paths are not supposed to cross twice

Maybe your arms are not supposed to go around me

“Why are things always so hard? Tara thought to herself. Why can’t Willow just see how the magic hurt her...how it hurt US?” “I know she didn’t mean to hurt anyone and every time I see her I want to reach out and hold her. To make everything ok...”

It didn’t help that everyone felt so bad about them breaking up. Dawn had called just a few hours ago and mentioned how Willow was doing better. That she was being “more careful with things.” Tara really hoped that was the case. She knew Willow was hurting but was having trouble understanding why it was so hard to stop using the magic.

“If only I could read her mind” Tara thought. She was torn between doing what she felt was the right thing and the love she had for the woman that made her feel so complete...the woman that made her feel better than she ever thought possible. She used to lie awake at night and wonder how anyone so special could love someone like her. It was like a dream...

I hear about you now and then

I wonder where you are and how you feel

Sometimes I walk by and I look up to your balcony

Just to make sure that you were real

Just to make sure that I can still feel you

“Well, Dawn did say she was doing better.” “Maybe she has changed” Tara sighed “I guess I’ll never know if I don’t go see her”

Tara grabbed her jacket and headed out the door towards Willow’s. If nothing else at least maybe they would have a chance to really talk about things now that they had both had a period to really think things through. Tara walked up and paused to collect herself before knocking on Willow’s door. Willow opened the door...

“Tara?”

“Hi Willow, I was kinda in the neighborhood and I thought I’d stop by.”

“I hope you don’t mind.”

“No, of course I don’t mind...why would I mind? Nope no minding here” Willow stopped

“oh, I’m sorry...please come in”

“Thanks” Tara said

When I see you again,

As I always do

It appears to me that

Destiny rules

And the spirits are ruthless with the paths they choose

It's not being together,

It's just following the rules

No one's a fool...

Buffy: Maybe it's time to start a new tradition. Birthdays without boyfriends. It could be just as much fun.

updating finally

Postby Imjustme » Wed Feb 11, 2004 11:01 pm

Tara walked inside, it seemed as though it had been forever, Each minute that passed seemed like an hour. Now, here, she felt at home. It wasn't just the room, though it was comforting.

No, it was Willow, being with Willow was being at home. She'd never thought it would be this way. Willow was the one thing she had always been able to believe in, the one thing she never doubted. Now, with everything that had happened,

she knew that nothing was perfect.

"She sure is close to it though" Tara thought

She sighed inwardly, that was part of the problem. I set her up on a pedestal. I thought because I loved her so much and she loved me, she would always do what's right. Anyone can make mistakes, and maybe I held her up too high. Still, I feel like maybe I'm not holding her up high enough by doubting her now.

"So, how have you been?"

The question snapped Tara out of her thoughts.

"Oh, you know, ok I guess. How about you?"

"I'm fine, well better or I'm getting better, it's hard you know."

"I understand, it's not easy Will, but I'm proud of you."

"Thank you" Willow replied

Tara watched Willow closely, she seemed as though she wanted to say more.

"So," Willow said finally speaking up

"I was just about to watch a movie. Care to join me?"

"Sure, what movie were you going to watch?" Well, at least that should break some of the tension she thought

"Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, but if you'd rather watch something else, it's fine."

"No, that sounds good."

Willow led the way to the couch and put the movie in.

Ugh, I came over to talk but I have no idea what to say. Maybe this wasn't a good idea, but I'm glad I came. Well, If nothing else we can start to build back our friendship. It's a start, a small one but still a start.

The two sat on the couch, neither really watching the movie, it was really just a way to take the pressure off bigger things.

"Tara's here" Willow thought

She'd agonized over everything she had put her through, but was determined to make it up to her.

I wonder what she's thinking, I wonder why she came. How can I be so nervous the one person I'd trust with my life? Maybe because that person trusted me with her life and I let her down. How could I have been so stupid?

Tara kept sneaking glances at Willow. From the looks of her she had a lot on her mind as well.

"Kinda busy in there tonight huh?" Tara asked placing her finger on Willow's temple

She touched me! She touched me! Wait, she said something . . . what did she say?

"I'm sorry, what?" Willow asked

"I asked if it was kinda busy in there." Tara repeated playing with a strand of Willow's hair

"Oh, yeah, I guess it is."

"Anything you'd like to share?"

Share? Oh man, where do I begin? Willow thought

"Well, it's not really one thing, it's lots of things. Lots of things that lead to other things, which lead to other things and I think you see my point."

"I think I do, yes. That's ok you don't have to talk about it if you don't want to."

"It's not that I don't want to it's just . . . "

"Complicated?" Tara questioned

"Exactly"

"I think there's a lot of that going around."

"What do you mean?" Willow asked, suddenly confused

"I just mean that I've been having the same problem."

"Oh,"

"I was thinking though, I'll tell if you will."

Willow paused for a moment and considered it.

"That's fair I suppose."

"Want me to go first?" Tara asked

"Well, kinda yeah, if you don't mind."

"Ok,"
