A song for Kittens

Postby Wolfie » Mon Mar 25, 2002 10:58 am

Well, this isn't about Willow and Tara, but I did write it specifically for all you Kitties, so I thought I might post it here for y'all to read. I hope you don't mind an' all, but spending the last six months in the company of you fine folks has been, well, not to put too finer point on it, life changing/augmenting, whatever. That sounds kinda sickly sweet, or contrived, but you've really made me think about stuff - my own sexuality, for one thing; I have come to see certain things in a different light, and am still pondering, but some stuff kinda makes sense, you know? Oh, that and the giggles - all the funny, insane (that is a complement), touching stuff you guys put, coming on and somethimes venting your spleen, sometimes just saying hey, and whatever. And this creative board, which I think is terrific. It has spurred me on. Oh, and I will finish Aftermath (that damned thing), I promise - I've sustained more blocks than the Welsh Rugby Union team!

Anyway, my main thing is, as you are no doubt aware by now, being a musician, and I also write songs. This time, I wanted to write something that was fun (I do, at times, err on the side of John Lennon doing his primal scream therapy bit), and short and sweet, and well, poppy. I thought "I know: I write a song for the Kitten board," which I did. You can read it any way you want to - I wanted to write something that maybe raises a few smiles, and it allows me to indulge my thing for writing songs for people, which is just about the nicest thing to be able to do - hopefully

Anyway, see what you think: (There is music, and when our band site is up and finished, I'll pop a recording of it there).

Blueprint

Once again, you are crying into your sundae

Here's to yet another date and another no show

And another dessert suddenly, shockingly drowned

And you can hear them now: Twenty and there's still no man around

You're not ready to say - "I'm sorry, guys, but I'm just not built that way"

When you're down and life is making you sad

When it's the rest of the world that's the rabid dog

But it's you they've tried to put down

Here's what you do -

When you've hit the rocks so hard you know you've left teeth marks

Here's a blueprint for you to follow that's sure

Move on close to your best friend

Cradle the back of their head in your hand

Pull them close until your stomach touches theirs

Whisper "there's something I've been meaning to say"

Tilt your head and kiss them on the mouth

And the whole world will fall away

Well, you're broken down and strung out

'Cause the day you chose to come out - there was no-one there

'Cause today is the day that they chose for the end of the world

"Just my luck" you cry, but there's one still left beside you

Who's admiring that dress you bought special

And they're waiting for you to

Move closer to them

And cradle the back of their head with your hand

Pulling them close until your stomach touches theirs

And whisper "there's something I've been waiting to say"

Tilt your head and kiss them on the mouth

As the whole world falls away...

Repeat Chorus and ad lib to end.

Silly sentiment, really, I suppose, but I found my honey like that. I nicked the end of the world thing from Douglas Coupland's Generation X - and my favourite bit, where Dag tells the story of the end of the world happening while you're standing at a supermarket checkout with a friend. Read it - it's the damnedest thing.
