Willow walked across the quad and saw Oz sitting playing his guitar. She didn’t know exactly what she was feeling for him right now. She thought she had wanted to kiss him, but when they did it wasn’t what she thought it would be.



It wasn’t that she felt disgust or anything, she just didn’t feel anything. But she assumed that things would get better with them, so she walked over to talk to him.



“Hey” She said quietly.



Oz looked up from his guitar and smiled. He was quickly falling in love with Willow. He knew that. Their kiss after Buffy’s party had been the best kiss he had ever had. He had had girlfriends’ before, but Willow was different, he really wanted to take care of her and make her happy.



“hey.” He replied casually.



“So, how are you?” Willow asked.



“I’m good. You?” He asked.



“Fine.” She replied.



It was always like that between them. They never seemed to have anything to talk about. Ever.



“So, do you maybe wanna do something later?” Willow asked.



“Oh, uh, actually I wanted to talk to you about that. My cousins here and I said I would hang out with her tonight.” Oz replied.



“Oh.” Willow said quietly.



“The thing is, she’s kinda shy, and I’m not really sure where to take her. And I told Devon that I could practice tonight. So, I was wondering, if you weren’t busy, maybe you could hang out with her?” He asked.



Willow sighed; it wasn’t like she had anything better to do. Xander would be with Cordelia, and Buffy would be sulking over Angel. Besides, maybe Oz’s cousin would be cool.



“Sure, what’s her name?” She asked.



“Tara.”

Tara sat looking out of the window. Although she wouldn’t admit it to Oz, she was bored. There really wasn’t much to do here in Sunnydale. She knew that Oz and her would be going out tonight and she hoped that would cheer her up.



Her mom had sent her to stay with Oz for a few days because she was going away on business, and she didn’t want to leave Tara alone. Donnie, her elder brother, was away at university, and her father had moved out the year before, and no-one had heard from him since, so that left Oz for her to stay with.



She looked at the blank notebook on her lap. She had been planning to draw the sunset outside, but her mind wasn’t focussed. Her mind hadn’t been focussing for the past few months.



She felt like there was something missing in life. She loved her mom, she loved her brother, she got on ok with schoolwork, but she didn’t know why she was so unhappy. She thought it might be because she was gay and no-one knew.



When she had first realised she was gay, she had planned to tell her mother straight away, but there had never been anyone she wanted to be with. Tara knew that when the right girl came along, she would tell her mother. She hoped she would find that girl soon; maybe even here in Sunnydale.



She was shaken out of her thoughts by the front door opening.



“Hey Tara.” Oz said.



“Hey Oz, good day?” She asked.



“As boring as ever.” He replied.



Tara smiled; she liked spending time with her cousin. Although he was quiet and would mostly just sit playing his guitar, he was a good person.



“Listen, I know we were supposed to do something tonight but I’ve got a band practice later.” Oz said.



“Oh, that’s okay. We can do something another night.” Tara said, trying to hide her disappointment.



“The thing is, there’s this girl I’ve been kinda seeing, and I asked her if maybe she wanted to hang out with you later, and she said yes. She’s really nice Tara; you guys have got a lot in common.” Oz said.



Tara sighed, “Okay, sure.”



Oz smiled, “great, I’m sure you guys will get on really well.”



“What’s her name?” Tara asked.



“Willow.”

“Hey Tara.” Oz said as he entered the living room and saw his cousin sitting on the couch.



Tara looked up and smiled at him, “hey Oz.” She replied.



“I’m gonna have to head out but Willow will be here in a few minutes, okay?” he asked,



Tara nodded, “Cool, have fun.”



“You too.” He replied not knowing how much fun his cousin was really going to have with his girlfriend.



Oz opened the front door and was greeted by his favourite sight; Willow.



“Hey, come on in.” he said as he kissed her cheek.



“Thanks” she replied as she walked in.



She turned the corner and walked into the living room and was greeted by the most amazing sight she had ever witnessed.



There was a girl sitting in the corner, reading. She looked so calm and peaceful; although it was obvious she was deep in thought.



It wasn't the fact that the girl was gorgeous that caught Willow’s attention, although that was a big part of it. It was that the girl seemed to be glowing. Willow had never seen such a beautiful human being before.



“Willow, this is Tara, my cousin.” Oz said.



Tara looked up at the mention of her name and almost fainted.



There, standing in front of her, was the most amazingly gorgeous woman, no, human that Tara had ever seen, or even dreamed of.



The red-headed girl looked so innocent, like she wouldn’t hurt a fly. However, it was obvious to Tara that the girl held a lot of knowledge.



The girl smiled at Tara and it took Tara all of her willpower not to rush forward and kiss the girl.



What?! Stop thinking things like that Tara! This is your cousin’s girlfriend; Oz’s girlfriend. Just because she’s the most perfect, beautiful girl with the softest looking lips and-Okay, stop! Oz’s girlfriend, Oz’s girlfriend…she should be my girlfriend.



“Hey,” Willow said shyly.



Wow! Look at her. She’s got the most amazing eyes; I just want to get lost in them. Wait, how come I’ve never wanted to get lost in Oz’s eyes before? Okay, stop. Oz is your boyfriend, Oz is your boyfriend, Tara is you girlfriend, stop!



“Hi,” Tara answered. She and Willow continued to lose themselves in each other’s eyes until Oz spoke.



“Okay guys, I’ve really gotta go, have fun!”

“So…” Tara began. She wasn’t really sure about what they could do. She knew what she wanted to do, but she put thoughts like that to the back of her mind.



“Yeah,” Willow nodded. She wasn’t sure what to do either, but she was content just to stand and stare at Tara all night.



“How long have you and Oz been seeing each other?” Tara asked. Oz had, of course, already told her all abut his relationship, but she needed to know if Willow was serious about Oz.



if she thought Willow was serious about her relationship with Oz, then Tara would back not just for Oz’s benefit, but because Tara really did want Willow to be happy.



If Willow was not serious about Oz, then Tara would tell Willow that it would be kinder to Oz for her to break up with him. Then she would see how Willow felt about her before she tried anything.



That was her plan, and she was trying really hard to stick to it and not just grab Willow and kiss her.



“Oh, uh, just a couple of weeks.” Willow said. She didn’t want Tara to think that she was really into Oz. She felt bad about this because a few days ago she was completely serious about Oz. Then she met Tara.





“So, are things serious between you two?” Tara asked, trying to sound casual.



“No, I mean, he’s a great guy, but things aren’t serious.” Willow answered. She didn’t want to get too excited about it, but she was sure that Tara didn’t want her to be serious about Oz; maybe Tara felt the connection between them too.



The silence fell between them again, and their eyes again focussed on each other. Both of them trying not to be obvious while ogling the other, but failing miserably.



“I’m gonna go get us something to drink.” Tara said suddenly as she turned around and headed into the kitchen.



Willow stood, not sure whether or not to follow. She decided to stay, and she walked over to the couch and sat down.



Tara leaned against the kitchen counter and held her head in her hands.



What the hell am I gonna do? I can’t be around her if she doesn’t want what I want. What if I kiss her and she tells Oz and neither of them want anything more to do with me? I don’t wanna hurt Oz but I have to know if she wants me too!



She got drinks for her and Willow and walked back into the living room.



“Here you go.” She said as she handed Willow her soda.



“Thanks”, Willow said as she took the drink.



Their hands brushed together and they both blushed, trying to prolong the contact. They kept staring into each other’s eyes, trying to figure out what the other person was thinking.



It hit both of them then and there. They wanted each other; all it was about now was who was willing to make the first move.

Willow and Tara were sitting side by side on the couch. A silence had fallen over them. However, it was not the awkward silence that Willow was used to; it was a calming, peaceful silence. They were both content to sit in silence, because they were sitting together.



Willow decided to be brave and ask the question that had been bugging her since she first laid eyes on Tara.



“Do you have a boyfriend?” She asked nervously.



Tara took a deep breath, and decided to just tell Willow.



“No, I’m…I’m gay.”



Willow’s heart leapt. The response Tara had given her was the greatest she could have hoped for.



“Really, does Oz know?” Willow asked.



Tara shook her head, “no, you’re the first person I’ve told.” She answered.



Willow smiled, feeling butterflies in her stomach. Tara had told her first. It was one of the biggest choices in Tara’s life, and she had told Willow first. That had to mean something.



“So, do you have a girlfriend?” Willow asked.



“No, I’ve never really felt attracted to anyone before.” Tara answered.



Willow frowned, “Really, never?” She asked.



Tara took a deep breath, she wasn’t sure she should do this, but she wanted Willow so badly.



She turned and looked deep into Willow’s eyes.



“No until I met you.” She said suddenly.



Willow froze. Had Tara really said that? Or had she just imagined it? Could Tara possibly have told Willow that she wanted her?



Tara looked away at Willow’s reaction. She knew she had made a mistake saying that.



She stood up.



“I’m sorry Willow. I didn’t mean to…please, don’t tell Oz.” She said desperately.



She began to turn around, but before she could turn around fully, she felt Willow on her.



Willow’s lips were on hers, and Willow’s arms were around her. And it felt amazing.



After a few minutes, they pulled back slightly.



“Wow.” Willow said breathlessly.



Tara nodded, and played with Willow’s hair.



“Are you sure you want this Willow?” She asked nervously.



Willow nodded, “I do Tara. I don’t wanna hurt Oz, but…God I want you. I want to be with you.” She answered.



"I want to be with you too.” Tara answered.



Willow kissed her again, and Tara pushed them back so that she was lying on top of Willow on the couch.



They were so wrapped up in their passionate kiss, that neither of them heard the front door open.



“Hey guys, we finished playing early, so I…”



Oz stopped speaking as he took in the sight in front of him. His cousin was kissing his girlfriend. The person he trusted the most was kissing the woman he loved. He froze, and his heart broke.

Tara hurriedly stood up and Willow sat up on the couch, unable to look Oz in the eye.



“Oz, we didn’t mean to, it just-” Oz cut Tara off.



“What? It just happened? How could it you just met each other!” He said angrily.



“Oz please, we’re sorry.” Willow said quietly.



Oz turned away from them, unable to look at the two people he thought he could trust.



“So what does this mean exactly Willow, are you gay?” Oz asked.



“Well, I, I’ve never really thought about it before, until I met Tara.” Willow answered honestly.



Oz closed his eyes and clenched his fists; his heart was breaking more and more with each passing second.



“I’ve gotta get out of here.” Oz said angrily as he stormed out.



Willow stood up to try and follow him, but Tara stopped her.



“I’ll go,” she said simply, and she kissed Willow’s cheek lightly before heading out after her cousin.



She didn’t have to follow him far. He was sitting on the porch, his face showed no emotion at all.



“Oz?”



“Look, just leave me alone.” He said simply.



Tara ignored him and sat down on the swing seat next to him.



“I can’t Oz, because you’re my cousin and I love you and I care about you.” She said



Ox turned and looked at her, “You care about me huh? Well maybe you shouldn’t kiss my girlfriend!”



“Look, it wasn’t like that, she just makes me feel-”



“I don’t need to here that Tara, because it’s the same way she makes me feel.”



“What are we gonna do?” Tara asked, more to herself than Oz.



Oz stood up and faced her. “Look, I have to get away for a while. I’ll be back tomorrow. I’ll work things out then, I just can’t think right now.”



Tara nodded, “what will I say to Willow?” She asked nervously.



Oz sighed “Tell her…tell her I’m not angry with her, I’m just disappointed, I’m still in love with her, I always will be, even if she can’t love me back.” He said, and he walked over to his van and drove off.



Tara watched him go, “be careful.” She mouthed.



Willow sat nervously on the couch, wondering what was taking so long. She stood up as she saw Tara enter.



“Where’s Oz?” she asked worriedly.



Tara walked over to her, “he’s gone away for a while, he’ll be back, he said he needed time to think.”



Willow nodded.



Tara sighed, “Look Willow, I need to know who you want to be with, because there’s no point in making a big deal about it if you still want to be with Oz.” She said.



“I don’t” Willow said.



“What do you mean?” Tara asked.



“I want to be with you Tara, I really do.” She said honestly.



Tara smiled, “are you sure Willow, cause its not gonna be simple, there’s a lot we have to deal with.”



“I’m sure, I want you Tara, no-one else, and I know we just met but-”



Tara silenced Willow with a kiss, full of comfort and promise.
